THE next instalment of the “Tomorrow, When the War Began” films might be dead in the water, but producers have not given up on the franchise just yet.

Ambience Entertainment, which created the film version of John Marsden’s popular books, has just sent out casting notices for a TV version.

The casting notices call for teenagers to play the seven key roles (film actors pictured).

Casting consultancy Mullinars is handling the casting, with the film to be directed by Brendan Maher.

This is great news, especially following our last post almost 2 years ago when it seemed like there wasn’t going to be any sort of sequel. Who’s excited?!

Have you finished Tomorrow When the War Began 2?
No, no. That all fell apart unfortunately.

It’s not going to happen at all?
No, no. I had the outlines written for 2 and 3 actually. I really, really wanted to do them but the company that made them kind of fell apart. They made a film after ours that they lost an insane amount of money on.

But that happens. Don’t rights get sold?
Yeah, but the cast is now five years older. I’d want to do it with them and I wouldn’t want to do it without them. So as far as I know it’s not happening. It’s certainly not going to happen with me.

A little while ago you were asked which 5 items in your home would you take with you in order to survive while you hide out in the bush, as an invading army takes control of your country. We received a heap of interesting answers, but began to wonder how many people would really be able to survive if they were suddenly thrown into a war zone and forced to live off whatever they can grab in 10 minutes.

It is entirely possible that you might find yourself in a similar position within your lifetime. Just in the past 24 hours hundreds of thousands of people are being evacuated from New York City and 100,000 people fled to higher ground in Hawaii after a tsunami warning was issued.

You have a unique opportunity

I’ve been involved in a new and exciting website project over the past 2 years that is all about learning how to survive large-scale disasters. We need people to test this website out. If you’ve ever had the “What would you do?” discussion with your friends about Ellie and the group’s situation in Tomorrow: When The War Began, or any post-apocalyptic movie, then you may be interested in this.

Enter your details in the form below, and let us know why you’re interested, so we can take you seriously. Also this website is only suitable to people 16 years of age or older – sorry, but please don’t apply if you’re under this age. We are only accepting a few testers at this stage, so get in quick.

NEW life has been breathed into the sequel to the surprisingly successful Aussie blockbuster Tomorrow When The War Began with producers promising cameras will roll early next year

Good news on a sequel courtesy of The Daily Telegraph!

NEW life has been breathed into the sequel to the surprisingly successful Aussie blockbuster Tomorrow When The War Began with producers promising cameras will roll early next year.

Considered dead in the water 12 months ago, Tomorrow When The War Began 2 – based on a series of books by John Marsden – is still searching for a director after the original auteur Stuart Beattie dropped out.

But executive producer Matthew Street said a “great screenplay” exists and that production would eventually begin.

“(The sequel) is certainly not dead,” Street said yesterday.

He said Aussie actor Kieran Darcy-Smith had written a “great screenplay” based on Marsden’s original book series. The news has come as a surprise to the cast however, with starlet Phoebe Tonkin saying she had not heard about plans for the project.

“I would have loved to have done a sequel but I don’t think it’s going to happen,” she said.

“A bit of time has passed now.

“I don’t think there will be one, or at least not with the original cast – which probably is a shame.

“But that could always change, you never know.”

Her doubts echoed sentiments shared earlier by co-star Caitlin Stasey, who said she feared the original cast of the movie would be too old to play the teenage characters in the original by the time a sequel came about.

It’s 2 o’clock in the morning and you’re woken by a phone call from a friend: several major airports and coastal ports across Australia have been taken over by a foreign army. Enemy forces are spreading out across the country, taking control at an alarming rate. Your friend wants to high-tail it to their own version of “Hell”, deep in the bush; a safe-haven, away from the war on your doorstep.

You have 10 minutes before soldiers get to you and take control of the area; the clock is ticking. If you stay, you’ll be thrown into a prison camp. If you leave with your friend, your survival (in the middle of dense bushland) is up to you.

Which 5 items in your home would you take with you in order to survive?
