PDP Vehicles Attacked In Bauchi As Police Launch Investigation Into Political Violence

The Nigeria Police Force in Bauchi State has confirmed an attack on vehicles belonging to members of the Peoples Democratic Party during a political gathering, sparking renewed concerns over rising tensions ahead of future elections.

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that suspected political thugs attacked and vandalised vehicles belonging to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a governorship candidate affirmation event in the state.

The command's Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in an interview on Tuesday, explaining that the incident took place while security personnel were managing crowds at the event.

He said the attackers arrived on motorcycles, smashed cars parked outside the venue, and fled before they could be apprehended.

The police have since commenced an investigation through intelligence gathering.

Habib issued a stern warning against political violence, stressing that the command would not tolerate any actions capable of undermining public peace, especially during the politically sensitive period ahead of the 2027 elections.

The police confirmation followed earlier allegations by a faction of the PDP loyal to its National Chairman, Abdurahman Muhammad, and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Addressing journalists in Bauchi on Monday, the party's National Ex-Officio, Muhammad Sabo, alleged that three suspected hoodlums on a motorcycle stormed the venue on Sunday and smashed the windscreens and side windows of five vehicles before fleeing.

He further alleged that a separate group of thugs later attacked the party secretariat after the event, destroying several billboards.

Sabo condemned the incidents, describing them as a dangerous development that could inflame political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While stopping short of directly accusing any individual or group of sponsoring the attack, he called on all political actors to exercise restraint.

He appealed to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and the state's ruling party to ensure a peaceful environment where all political parties can conduct their affairs without interference.

He also urged political leaders to caution their supporters, warning that such acts of violence could destabilise the state.

Sabo confirmed that a formal complaint had been lodged with the police over the incidents. The faction had earlier on Sunday affirmed Usman Supi as its governorship candidate for Bauchi State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged passengers to refrain from pressuring drivers into speeding, warning that such behaviour poses a serious risk to road safety and can result in fatal accidents.

The caution came on Tuesday during a sensitisation campaign held in Calabar, Cross River State, ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, during which operatives also intercepted and stopped a drunk driver from embarking on a journey.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Cross River State, Innocent Tommy Etuk, explained that the campaign is aimed at educating both motorists and passengers on responsible road conduct during the festive period.

He stressed that passengers who encourage reckless or fast driving are not acting in anyone's best interest, and urged drivers to remain calm and safety-conscious regardless of pressure from those on board.

Etuk reminded travellers that the priority should always be arriving safely, not arriving quickly, noting that families look forward to celebrating together not to receiving news of a tragedy.

On the drunk driver intercepted during the exercise, Etuk said the individual failed a breathalyser test conducted at the motor park, recording an alcohol level of 0.481 milligrammes well above the legally permitted limit for motorists.

Court Holds Back Judgment In Owo Church Attack Case As Tension Builds Over Fate Of Five Accused

A major decision is now hanging in the balance at the Federal High Court Abuja as Justice Emeka Nwite keeps judgment in reserve in the case involving five men accused over the deadly attack on St. Francis Catholic Church Owo.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has reserved judgment in the trial of five men charged in connection with the June 5, 2022 terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, in which 41 worshippers lost their lives and over 140 others were injured.

Presiding judge Justice Emeka Nwite fixed the judgment date for a time to be communicated to all parties, following the adoption of final written addresses by both prosecution and defence counsel.

The judge indicated that notification could come within 24 hours of the judgment being ready.

In his closing address, the prosecution counsel representing the Department of State Services, Ayodeji Adedipe (SAN), urged the court to convict all five defendants and impose the maximum penalty of death, citing the extreme gravity of the offence allegedly committed.

Defence counsel Abdullahi Mohammad, on the other hand, urged the court to discharge and acquit his clients, arguing that the prosecution had failed to sufficiently prove its case against them.

The five defendants are Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris, and Momoh Otuho Abubakar.

The trial, which began on August 1, 2025, saw the DSS call 11 witnesses in support of its case.

The court had earlier admitted the defendants' confessional statements into evidence after conducting a trial-within-trial to verify that the statements were made voluntarily.

The DSS had also sought and obtained accelerated hearing of the matter at the outset of the trial.

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has expressed optimism that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will record improved electoral performance in the FCT, pointing to growing acceptance of the government at the grassroots level and the visible impact of infrastructure projects across the territory.

Wike made the remarks on Tuesday after inspecting six projects being prepared for commissioning ahead of President Bola Tinubu's third year anniversary celebration in Abuja.

He noted that residents are increasingly responding positively to what he described as tangible governance, particularly the extension of infrastructure to satellite towns and rural communities.

According to the minister, Nigerians are not asking for miracles they simply want to feel the effects of good governance through infrastructure, electricity, and improved living conditions.

He announced that at least 20 projects would be ready for inauguration, adding that the figure could be higher once water projects in Bwari and Karu, as well as developments in the AMAC and Bwari Area Councils, are factored in.

Among the road projects highlighted were the Gomani to Yangoji and Kuje to Gwagwalada corridors, which Wike described as part of a new phase of development spreading infrastructure beyond the city centre.

He also challenged the opposition and coalition members to visit the FCT and witness governance in action.

The minister further disclosed that several other projects are at advanced stages of completion, including the Abuja Appeal Court Complex in Dakibiyu, Judges' Quarters in Katampe, internal roads in the Katampe district, and the new site for the Apo Mechanic Village relocation.

He noted that roads and streetlights at the mechanic village relocation site are already done, with only water connection remaining, and that security officials accompanied him to the site to initiate work on a police station and residential quarters for officers.

Major changes to US immigration policy are here and they could affect thousands of migrants currently living in America on temporary visas!

The Trump administration has rolled out new immigration guidelines through the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that significantly tighten the path to permanent residency for migrants already in the country.

Here is what the new policy means in simple terms

Under the previous system, many migrants on temporary visas could apply for a Green Card without ever leaving the United States a process known as "adjustment of status." That is now largely being scrapped.

Going forward, migrants on temporary visas who want permanent residency will generally be required to:

Return to their home countries, Apply for an immigrant visa through the US Department of State abroad, Complete all screening and processing outside the US, Only then reenter America as lawful permanent residents

The only exceptions will be for individuals facing what USCIS describes as "extraordinary circumstances."

USCIS Director Joseph Edlow defended the move, saying the administration is simply restoring the original intent of immigration law and reinforcing the difference between temporary admission and permanent residence.

USCIS spokesman Zach Kahler added that the policy would also help reduce cases where migrants remain in the country illegally after their residency applications are denied.

The new guidance affects applications filed under Section 245(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act a provision that has long allowed eligible migrants to adjust their status without leaving US soil.

This is a significant shift that could impact a large number of immigrants currently in the US.

A fresh wave of uncertainty and relief is unfolding as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board moves to clear part of its backlog of withheld exam outcomes while still keeping several cases under close watch.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has unsealed 279 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results that had previously been held back pending further scrutiny.

The board's spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, confirmed this on Thursday on a social media post, clarifying that the newly released results are in addition to those the board had already published.

He explained that the releases came after a careful and thorough review of cases that had been flagged on suspicion of examination malpractice.

Benjamin noted that where evidence of wrongdoing was clearly established, results were outright cancelled, while those for whom no prima facie case could be made were freed for release.

He added that results from centres where the board's live monitoring team observed suspicious behaviour, or where unfavourable reports were received, remain on hold pending the conclusion of investigations.

Any candidate found sufficiently culpable at that stage will have their result cancelled.

Candidates who are still unable to access their results were advised to check their status by texting UTMERESULT to either 55019 or 66019, using the same phone number they registered with.

The 2026 UTME was conducted between April 16 and 25 across accredited computer-based test centres throughout the country.

Another fatal crash has thrown Lagos traffic corridors into concern after a dispatch rider died in a violent chain collision involving a commercial bus and a trailer along the Ilupeju Bypass, coming barely hours after a separate hit-and-run death on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Less than a day after a dispatch rider was killed by a hit-and-run driver on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, another rider has lost his life in a separate crash along the Ilupeju Bypass area of Lagos State, highlighting a deeply troubling pattern of fatal road incidents in the state.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority's spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed the incident in a Wednesday statement, explaining that the crash occurred after the dispatch rider became involved in a dangerous struggle for right of way with a commercial minibus, commonly known as a "Korope."

During the altercation, the rider lost control of his motorcycle and veered into the path of a moving articulated trailer along the busy Ilupeju corridor.

The force of the impact was devastating, resulting in the rider's death on the spot.

LASTMA operatives monitoring traffic around the Mushin axis were alerted through distress calls and quickly mobilised to the scene, where they initiated rescue operations and worked to manage the heavy traffic gridlock that followed.

Officials recovered the rider's remains, which had become trapped beneath the trailer, while coordinating with other emergency response agencies to restore order and ensure public safety throughout the rescue and evacuation process.

The State Environmental Health Management Unit was also contacted to evacuate the body from the scene, and the wrecked motorcycle along with the trailer involved in the crash were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation and potential prosecution.

Responding to the tragedy, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki extended condolences to the deceased's family and appealed to road users especially articulated vehicle operators and dispatch riders to exercise greater caution and resist the urge to engage in dangerous right-of-way confrontations.

He recalled that a recent stakeholders' engagement with courier and dispatch riders had been specifically aimed at promoting safety awareness, speed limit compliance, and adherence to traffic regulations in order to prevent avoidable deaths on Lagos roads.

Earlier on Wednesday, online reports had indicated that another dispatch rider died after being struck by a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction at Magboro Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with the driver responsible fleeing the scene.

APC Primary Shock as Lagos Lawmaker Suffers Heavy Defeat

Political tension erupted in Oshodi/Isolo after a powerful upset changed the game ahead of the 2027 elections.

Former Education Secretary Mayowa Alakija, widely known as "Bibire," has secured the APC ticket for the Oshodi/Isolo State Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections, beating out sitting lawmaker Stephen Ogundipe in the party's primary.

The results were tallied at the Oshodi Local Government Secretariat's Legislative Hall, with a large turnout of party members and stakeholders present. Alakija dominated across nearly all the wards.

He pulled ahead convincingly in Bolade D1 Ward with 3,121 votes to Ogundipe's 1,110, and recorded an even more lopsided result in Orile Oshodi D2 Ward, scoring 4,352 votes against just 12 for the incumbent.

He continued his strong showing in Mafoluku D3 Ward with 2,102 votes compared to Ogundipe's 166.

The gap narrowed somewhat in Shogunle E1 Ward, where Alakija won 484 to 371, and in Alasia Shogunle E2 Ward, where he secured 455 votes against Ogundipe's 78.

When all votes were counted, Alakija won by a wide margin, finishing with 12,251 votes to Ogundipe's 1,737.

A third aspirant, Abiodun Orija, had pulled out before voting began and threw his support behind Alakija.

APC Returning Officer Prince Adesanya Omoloja subsequently declared Alakija the official party candidate.

His victory set off celebrations among supporters, with many viewing the result as a testament to his strong grassroots presence.

Party leaders praised the orderly conduct of the exercise and called for unity going into the general election.

In his victory speech, Alakija thanked party leaders, delegates, women, youths, and supporters across the constituency.

He also acknowledged those who backed his rivals, saying their participation reflected healthy democratic values.

He called for unity and reconciliation now that the primary is concluded, emphasizing that the party's collective interest must come before personal ambition.

He commended Orija for stepping aside in the spirit of unity and acknowledged Ogundipe for running what he described as a mature and democratic contest.

Alakija pledged to lead inclusively and to serve the constituency with dedication, fairness, and humility if elected in the general election.

A quiet but dramatic shift is unfolding in Lagos politics after a well known lawmaker stepped forward with an emotional apology to a powerful political mentor amid growing speculation about a deeper fallout behind the scenes.

Lagos State lawmaker Desmond Elliot has issued a public apology to Femi Gbajabiamila, the President's Chief of Staff and his long-time political mentor, acknowledging that his actions during recent political activities may have caused offence.

Elliot made the apology during a Friday appearance on TVC's "Your View" programme, stating that any friction between them was never deliberate and reaffirming his dedication to party unity and service to his constituency.

The apology comes against the backdrop of tensions surrounding the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis, during which Gbajabiamila revealed that he nearly lost his position at the Presidency due to allegations connecting Elliot to efforts aimed at removing Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Obasa allegations Gbajabiamila had denied being part of at the time.

Speaking on the programme, Elliot described Gbajabiamila as his "egbon" an elder brother figure and credited him as the person through whom he learned the ropes of politics. He acknowledged that emotions and misunderstandings had played a role in their falling out, and accepted that making mistakes in political relationships was only human.

He also extended an apology to a figure he referred to as the "matriarch of Surulere," expressing regret for any hurt caused.

Despite the public reconciliation gesture, Elliot made clear that he remains committed to his work, pointing to his track record in Surulere and pledging to continue strengthening the party and delivering for his constituents.

Michael Carrick has been officially confirmed as Manchester United's permanent manager after reaching an agreement on a long-term contract with the club.

The decision, which had reportedly been in the works for several weeks, has now been finalized and given the green light by key figures at the club, including minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and senior executives.

Carrick is set to sign a deal understood to run for an initial two years, with the option to extend, or potentially a straight three-year arrangement depending on how things progress.

The former United midfielder had been serving in an interim capacity before being handed the role on a full-time basis, following a strong run of results and growing backing from within the club.

As reported by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano on social media on Friday, the direction had been clear for weeks, with the plan fully approved by Ratcliffe and a new deal set to be signed shortly.

Carrick also confirmed that 34-year-old Brazilian midfielder Casemiro would be available for his farewell appearance at Old Trafford.

He indicated his intention to follow the tradition established by his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson by addressing supporters after the Forest game, expressing gratitude for the connection fans have built with the team.

"The supporters are a massive part of this club. We thank them for the season the last four months for me personally.

For what we've gone through and that connection, which the players have felt, it's important for me to thank the fans for that," Carrick said.
