A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said that an opposition alliance involving Atiku Abubakar and a southern political figure could potentially unseat Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

He contended that a coalition ticket comprising Atiku and a notable southern politician, such as Peter Obi or Rotimi Amaechi, could considerably diminish the ruling party’s prospects in the next election.

“I am convinced that if we have a partnership with Atiku, possibly with Peter Obi, perhaps with Rotimi Amaechi, or any other individual from the South, Tinubu will be finished.

“This would mark the end of Tinubu’s foundation, not the APC,” Momodu expressed during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

He asserted that Atiku’s enduring political aspiration and experience render him a formidable candidate should he become the opposition’s nominee.

“Based on my assessment, Atiku Abubakar – even among those who previously opposed him – is now being viewed favorably, as the enemy of your enemy is your friend.

“He has been preparing for this moment for a long time, similar to how Donald Trump was preparing for his presidency. Critics claimed Donald Trump was too old, yet he is now in his second term, which is quite ironic.

“I firmly believe that opposition politics is essential; there must be opposition candidates. However, Tinubu seems intent on running against himself, which I find illogical,” Momodu remarked.

When asked if he believes Atiku possesses the capability to defeat Tinubu in 2027, Momodu responded that the former vice president’s political framework and determination make him a formidable opponent.

He noted that the increasing trend of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) since Tinubu took office poses a significant threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

Momodu characterized this situation as “a tragic day for democracy,” cautioning that it could be perilous if the PDP is left with only a few governors.

Atiku, Obi and Amaechi, who were affiliated with different parties during the 2023 elections, have now united in their efforts aimed at challenging the ruling APC in the 2027 general election.

A man with a prodigious sense of humour and a born-again Christian of the Christ Embassy denomination, Ifeanyi was an ordained preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ in the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.

“May God give his family, friends, and colleagues the fortitude to bear his demise. Further details about his burial will be made public by his family. He left behind children, grandchildren and an elder and only surviving brother, Pastor Emeka Izeze of the Guardian Newspapers fame.

Sanusi made this known at the Fola Adeola Annual Ramadan Lecture, explaining why he remained calm and steadfast after losing two of the most powerful positions.

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has said that many people wrongly attribute power and outcomes to individuals instead of recognizing that events change only by the will of God.

Sanusi made this known at the Fola Adeola Annual Ramadan Lecture, explaining why he remained calm and steadfast after losing two of the most powerful positions.

The monarch, who spoke on resilience and faith, reflected on how his belief in God helped him navigate difficult periods following his suspension as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and his later removal as Emir of Kano.

Sanusi also cautioned against humiliating oneself in pursuit of favour from powerful individuals, noting that many people wrongly believe their fortunes depend entirely on others.

He said, “Too often in our lives, we attribute things to human beings, but they are all created. Remembering that situations are not permanent, that Allah changes your circumstances, helps you cope and conduct yourself.

“I’ve seen people who beg, cringe, and bow to human beings. They humiliate themselves because they feel this person is the one who holds the path to their position.

“I was suspended from being governor of the central bank. Three months later, I became an emir.

“Several years ago I was removed as emir; four years later, I came back. I’m now in the same palace, I’m on my throne. Yes, there are challenges but at the end of the day you hold on to God. You don’t panic.”

Sanusi said his time away from Kano after his dethronement was spent pursuing academic work to avoid situations that might have been humiliating.

He also emphasised that losing positions should not be seen as the end of one’s purpose in life, urging people to remain guided by their principles.

He added, “I think of all the things that could have happened if I was in Kano in the last four years, the humiliation I could have faced, the people I would have had to deal with, the people I would have had to report to, but God was so merciful, so kind. He took me away from that. He gave me a chance, I went and did a PhD and I’m back.

“If I’m taken away from positions, it’s not a big deal. At the end of the day, I ask myself, have I done anything to offend God?” he said.

“It’s better for you to leave there and keep to your principles than to stay there and earn the wrath of Allah.”

It read: “After much discussion between UEFA and the organising authorities in Qatar, it is announced today that due to the current political situation in the region, the Finalissima between UEFA EURO 2024 winners Spain and CONMEBOL Copa América 2024 champions Argentina cannot be played as hoped in Qatar 27 March.

“It is a source of great disappointment to UEFA and the organisers that circumstances and timing have denied the teams of the chance to compete for this prestigious prize in Qatar – a country that has demonstrated time and again its capability of staging world-class international events in state-of-the-art facilities.

“UEFA would like to express its deep gratitude to the organising committee and relevant authorities of Qatar for the work that has been put into trying to host the game and its certainty that peace will return to the region soon.”

It added: “The first option was to stage the match at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid on the original date with a 50:50 split of supporters in the stadium. This would have provided a world-class setting, befitting of such a prestigious event, but Argentina refused.

“The second was to stage the Finalissima over two legs – one at the Santiago Bernabeu on 27 March and the other in Buenos Aires during an international window before UEFA EURO and Copa America 2028, again offering a supporter split of 50:50 for the match in Madrid. This option was also rejected.

“Ultimately, UEFA sought a commitment from Argentina that, if a neutral venue in Europe could be found, the game could go ahead on 27 March, as planned and announced on 18 December 2025, or on the alternative date of 30 March. This proposal was also rejected.

“Argentina made a counter suggestion to play the game after the World Cup but, as Spain has no available dates, that option had to be ruled out. Finally, and contrary to the original agreed plan that the match would take place on 27 March, Argentina declared its availability to play exclusively on 31 March, a date which proved to be unworkable.

“As a result, and to UEFA’s regret, this edition of the Finalissima has been cancelled.”

Confirming the incident on Saturday, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC in Kano, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the command had commenced a thorough investigation into the k!lling.

“Yes, it is true. Consequently, the commandant has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. When we are done, we will release a press statement with the full details of the incident,” Abdullahi said in a telephone interview with The PUNCH.

Moreover, the lawmaker Doguwa alleged that hoodlums attempted to disrupt the distribution exercise, leading to the de@th of the officer.

“I was informed that some hoodlums attempted to cause disorder during the distribution, an incident that resulted in the de@th of a security officer of the Civil Defence Corps,” he said.

The lawmaker expressed shock over the development and condoled with the NSCDC, the family of the deceased, and the people of Tudun Wada.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Civil Defence Corps, the family of the deceased, and the entire people of Tudun Wada Local Government Area. May Allah have mercy on him and forgive him,” he added.

Doguwa called on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice, while urging the public to desist from spreading false claims linking him to the attack.

Nigerian singer Charles Chibueze Chukwu, popularly known as Crayon, has stirred speculation about a potential departure from Mavin Records after publicly criticizing label boss Don Jazzy in a heated social media rant.

Crayon, in a series of 𝕏 posts, also criticised the leadership of Mavin Records, including the label’s chief operating officer (COO), Tega Oghenejobo.

Taking a swipe at Don Jazzy, Crayon wrote, “Don Jazzy na my boy!!!!!! Una dey maddddd!!?? Shayennnnn sharayyyyyy333,” before turning to Tega with a harsher remark, “Tega highest criminal!!!!!!!!!”

He also claimed that he lost his mother due to the label, an allegation he did not expand on.

The Nigerian government has raised concerns that a mining company, Jupiter Limited, is allegedly planning a smear campaign targeting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The allegation was made by the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development in a statement released on Sunday by presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare on his X.

Jupiter had claimed that the Nigerian government revoked its lithium mining project and reassigned it to a Chinese firm.

However, the government dismissed the claim, clarifying that the company’s mineral titles were revoked after it failed to pay statutory annual service fees amounting to N2.49 billion.

“Jupiter… peddled falsehoods by claiming that its titles were revoked in favour of a Chinese firm. This is a complete fabrication,” the statement said.

The government added that the revocation was carried out in line with regulations governing the mining sector after due notice was issued.

It also warned the public against attempts by some individuals to undermine reforms in the industry, insisting that the government would not be pressured.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria cannot and will not be intimidated or blackmailed into abandoning reforms by the antics of any individual or company,” the statement added.

Cee-C became popular after she finished as the first runner-up in the 2018 edition of Big Brother Naija, where Miracle Igbokwe emerged as the winner.

Cynthia Nwadiora, a former Big Brother Naija housemate, who is popularly known as Cee-C, has explained why she believes it was difficult for her to succeed in Nollywood after gaining fame from the reality television show.

Cee-C became popular after she finished as the first runner-up in the 2018 edition of Big Brother Naija, where Miracle Igbokwe emerged as the winner.

However, she explained that the quick rise to fame that comes with participating in Big Brother Naija can make it hard for contestants to build the kind of relationships needed to succeed in the film industry.

Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, she said many participants move from being unknown to becoming famous within a short period.

According to CeeC, this sudden change may not give them enough time to build strong connections in the entertainment industry, especially in Nollywood, where relationships and networks often play an important role in career growth.

She explained that actors who enter the film industry through the traditional route usually spend years building contacts, working on smaller projects and developing strong ties with producers, directors and fellow actors.

This process helps them gain stability in the industry.

In contrast, reality television stars often gain popularity quickly but may not have the same professional network that helps many Nollywood actors grow and remain active in the industry.

Since leaving the Big Brother Naija house, Cee-C has appeared in a few films and television projects.

Despite these opportunities, she admitted that finding a stable place in the entertainment industry after reality television can be challenging, especially when the intense attention that follows the show begins to fade.

IGP Tunji Disu Removes Benjamin Hundeyin, Appoints Placid As New Force PRO

Placid is described as seasoned officer of the Nigeria Police Force with extensive experience in administration, operations, intelligence, training, and international peacekeeping.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Anthony Okon Placid, as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

Placid is described as seasoned officer of the Nigeria Police Force with extensive experience in administration, operations, intelligence, training, and international peacekeeping.

Born on 2 December 1970, he hails from Mbiokporo Nsit, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, and Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (M.A.L.D) from the University of Jos.

He was recruited into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Police Academy, Kano, in 1996, and was commissioned in August 1998.

He has attended several professional and international courses, including United Nations Peace Operations Specialised Training (POST), with certifications as expert in Police Studies, Military Studies, Gender Awareness, International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, and Civilian Protection.

DCP Placid has served in various strategic capacities within and outside the country, including Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Adamawa State; Police Staff College, Jos; Chief of Training, African Union Mission in Sudan; Head of Training and Development, United Nations Mission in Darfur; Divisional Police Officer in Federal Housing Calabar, Bakassi, Uruan, and Gembu; Officer-in-Charge, Anti-Robbery Unit, Kaduna State; African Union Election Security Adviser; Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Akwa Ibom and Kogi states.

He equally served as Assistant Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Department, Abia State, and Deputy in charge of Administration and Finance, Zone 3 Headquarters, Yola.

Placid is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, IACP, Commonwealth Human Rights Trainer and International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, Trainer on International Humanitarian Law.

He is a graduate of the Senior Executive Course, SEC 47, of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru, and was inducted as a Member of the National Institute, mni, on 13 December 2025, prior to his redeployment to Cross River State.

He is happily married with children.

His hobbies include listening to good music, playing football, basketball, table tennis, badminton, and engaging with people.

Iran War: FG Releases Emergency Contacts For Nigerians In Middle East (Full List)

The advisory was issued in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria and signed by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.

The Federal Government has issued emergency contact details for Nigerian diplomatic missions across the Middle East to support citizens impacted by the escalating conflict in the region.

The advisory was issued in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria and signed by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.

According to the ministry, the emergency contacts were provided to enable Nigerians living in or travelling across the Middle East to quickly reach diplomatic missions for assistance as tensions escalate in the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

The ministry explained that the emergency contact list covers Nigerian diplomatic missions in 10 countries across the Middle East affected by the ongoing hostilities.

It urged Nigerians in the region to maintain communication with the nearest Nigerian embassy or consulate.

“Further to established communication channels publicised by the various Nigerian missions in the Middle East region, Nigerian citizens affected by the ongoing crisis should contact the following mobile numbers in case of emergency and also ensure that they are registered with the respective embassy or consulate in their country of residence,” the statement said.

He recalled that both of them were together until about 11 p.m. on the night before Taiwo passed away, noting that his brother was still active at the time before leaving unexpectedly.

The singer spoke about the shock of living without his twin, saying several days had already passed since Taiwo’s death, and he was still trying to come to terms with the loss.

According to him, the absence of his brother’s voice and presence has left a deep gap in his life.

He wrote: “By this time last week Saturday you were still alive and very active. We were together till 11pm before you left suddenly. So it’s already 8 days without you my best friend.

"It’s already 8 days you chose to stay alone in the morgue without telling me you’re going. So I won’t see you anymore, so I won’t hear your powerful vocal voice again but you suppose to know that I will miss you a lot. Please sir T, you must do everything to become number one choir master in heaven and you must be with me in spirit to take care of the kids, wife and band members.

“Now I understand the reason why you always tell me I can do it. Now I know why you sometimes tell our manager we can attend two shows at a time. But I promise never to disappoint you in every area, and I am sure you will stay with me forever till we meet again up there. It is well with my soul.”

Taiwo Adegbodu died on March 1 at the age of 46, although the cause of his death has not been made public.

The late singer was widely known as one half of the Adegbodu Twins, a gospel music group he formed with Kehinde. The duo became popular in the Yoruba gospel music scene after releasing their first album titled Faratimi (Lean on Me) in 1999.

Family members have announced plans to honour the late singer with an artistes night scheduled for March 30 at Bollads Event Centre located along Akala Express in Ibadan.

His burial service will take place the following day, March 31, at his residence.

Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully rescued two kidnapped bankers during a security operation in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer, HQ JTF operation WHIRL STROKE, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, 7 March 2026, said the victims, both staff members of Unity Bank, Benue State, were abducted a few days ago.

“Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) successfully rescued two kidnap victims following an intelligence-led search and rescue operation conducted in Gborgbor Village, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, forcing the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee,” the statement read.

"The operation was launched in the early hours of 6 March 2026 following credible intelligence indicating the presence of terrorist and their victims within the general area.

"Acting swiftly on the intelligence report, OPWS troops conducted an aggressive search and rescue mission aimed at locating the terrorist and safely recovering the victims.

"During the operation, troops thoroughly searched suspected houses and locations within Gborgbor Village but initially found nothing unusual.

"However, further intelligence obtained indicated that the kidnappers and their victims were still trapped within the general area.

"In response to the new development, additional troops led by the Sub-Sector Commander were deployed to reinforce the search operation and intensify efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.

"The troops subsequently extended the search to surrounding settlements including Tse Anaka.

"A sustained pressure from the advancing troops forced the terrorist to abandon their captives and flee the area.

"The rescued victims were later identified as Mr Marwan Abubakar, 40, and Mr Leng’en Cakop, 37, both staff members of Unity Bank from Zaki-Biam in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

"No direct contact was made with the fleeing terrorist during the operation.

"However, troops recovered a motorcycle suspected to have been used by the terrorist along the route leading to Tse Anaka Village.

"The Force Commander Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift response to actionable intelligence.

"He noted that the success of the operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in combating kidnapping and other terrorist activities within the Joint Operations Area.

"Major General Gara further reassured residents of Taraba and neighbouring states of the Joint Task Force continued commitment to protecting lives and property.

“He urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist in dismantling criminal networks operating within the region.”

2026 Electoral Act: We Engaged AGF, INEC, CSOs, Devt Partners For Two Years Before Enactment — National Assembly

The President had subsequently signed the Electoral Bill 2026 into law after 24 hours of its enactment, thereby completing the two-year process of recrafting the new regime expected to shape the next elections positively.

In a statement released by his Directorate of Media and Public Affairs, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Senate Leader and APC representative for Ekiti Central, highlighted key achievements of the new administration. He revealed that the legislative arm engaged with a wide range of stakeholders over a two-year period before the policy was ultimately enacted.

According to him, the new electoral governance framework equally mandates INEC to deploy bimodal voters verification system, BVAS, for voters accreditation; recommend two-year jail imprisonment for Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, that withholds vital documents; establish an electronic register of voters and review upward campaign funds for different elective offices.

Bamidele, who explained how the National Assembly sustainably engaged the CSOs, INEC, Office of the Attorney-General of Federation, OAGF, and development partners, among others, for two consecutive years before the new electoral regime came into force, said the making of the new regime “is a collective work that involves nearly all critical stakeholders.

‘’The National Assembly worked with such different stakeholders as OAGF, CSOs, INEC and our development partners, among others, before we eventually completed the process.

“As we were making progress, the stakeholders too were making their input, and all the inputs were incorporated in the Act. In view of the time constraint we are facing now, I do not believe the executive requires days or weeks to review it before assent since we all contributed to it. Its outcome is not a unilateral effort of the parliament, but of Nigerians at large.”

The National Assembly had harmonised different versions of the Electoral Bill 2026 produced by its two chambers, especially with respect to Clause 60(3); passed the bill into law and transmitted it to President Bola Tinubu for assent in order to avoid constitutional crisis that might arise in the preparation for the 2027 general election.

Although civil society organisations, CSO, had questioned the speed with which the Electoral Bill 2026 was signed into law, the president observed that the essence of democracy was designed to promote conversations aimed at deepening national development, nation-building and stability of the federation.

Bamidele explained the potential of the new electoral governance framework “to obviously strengthen institutional independence; enhance transparency in election management; improve technological integration and reinforce accountability mechanisms in the country’s election management system.

According to him, under Section 3, for instance, the new legislation established a dedicated fund for INEC which, according to him, will guarantee the financial autonomy, operational stability and administrative continuity of the commission.

He added that with this provision alone, INEC would operate with greater independence and quicker corrective powers.

The section requires that election funds be released earlier, at least six months before the general election and expands INEC’s powers to review questionable result declarations made under duress or procedural violations

He also cited Section 47 of the Electoral Act, which mandated all presiding officers “to use BVAS or any other technological device that may be prescribed by the commission, for the accreditation of voters, to verify, confirm or authenticate the particulars of the intending voter in the manner prescribed by the commission.”

Bamidele clarified that the new electoral governance framework conditionally permitted the resort to Form EC8A to transmit election results as prescribed by INEC, provided the electronic transmission of election results failed due to communication failure.

He also pointed out Section 72(2), which recommended that a certified true copy of the order of the court “shall be sufficient for the purpose of swearing-in any candidate declared as the winner of an election by the court where that of INEC fails, refuses, or neglects to issue the certificate of return.”

According to him, Section 74(1) of the Electoral Act, specifically mandates the REC to release the certified true copy of any document within 24 hours after payment has been made. The failure to comply will attract an imprisonment of a minimum term of two years without an option of fine.

He explained that unlike the 2022 Electoral Act that had been repealed, the new regime only provided for direct and consensus primaries under Section 84 (1-2) as means of electing candidates for elective offence, thereby phasing out indirect primaries to enable broader party members to participate in the process and reduce the use of money to compromise party delegates.

Bamidele said that Section 77 (1-7) stipulates stringent measures that will henceforth govern and regulate the conduct of primaries and the process of electing party candidates, adding that the section mandates each political party to maintain a digital register of its members; issue membership cards to each of them and submit such a register to INEC 21 days before the party primaries, congresses or conventions.

He further explained that the new regime reviewed upward the election spending limit under Section 92(1-8) of the Electoral Act, raising the spending threshold for presidential poll from N5 billion to N10 billion; from N1billion to N3 billion for governorship; from N100 million to N500 million for the Senate; from N70 million to N250 million for the House of Representatives; from N30 million to N100 million for the House of Assembly; from N30 million to N60 million for Area Council and from N5 million to N10 million for the councillorship poll.

Kwara Residents Flee Into Bushes As Gunmen Invade Community, Shoot Sporadically

The attackers were said to have stormed the area in large numbers, shooting sporadically as they moved through parts of the town.

A local source said that the sound of gunshots echoed for hours, leaving residents trapped indoors and others escaping into nearby bushes.

“We don’t know the number of those taken or killed yet. The situation is terrifying,” the source said.

The attack marks the latest in a troubling wave of violent incidents in Edu Local Government Area.

Previous assaults in the area have resulted in deaths, abductions, and destruction of homes and property, raising fresh concerns over security in parts of Kwara State.

Meanwhile, Boko Haram soldiers have murdered three soldiers in Hong Usman Inuwa Wa’aganda local government area in Adamawa State.

The suspects attacked the Garaha District, burnt the military camp and the primary school in the village.

According to Leadership, the local government chairman said that the incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, with insurgents storming the community from multiple directions, including the Dabna and Lar axes.

Reports said the sporadic shooting by the terrorists caught the military personnel off guard despite their alertness and initial resistance.

Reverend Isaiah Yeriman, speaking from an eyewitness perspective, recounted how the insurgents overwhelmed the military camp.

“The military men were set and alerted and began to exchange gunshots in an effort to repel them, but unfortunately, the entire military camp was invaded and burnt down,” he said.

According to Yeriman, the attackers ambushed the soldiers from the rear via the Lar axis, resulting in the deaths of three military personnel. A civilian woman was tragically killed by a stray bullet while attempting to flee the violence.

The insurgents reportedly looted weapons from the overrun camp, including an armoured vehicle, before torching remaining structures.

“As I’m talking to you, no structure is left at the military base except the Living Faith Church,” Yeriman noted.

He praised the soldiers’ bravery, highlighting that they lost everything, including food, clothing, and personal belongings, and appealed to Nigerians to pray for the troops.

Another anonymous eyewitness suggested possible internal betrayal, claiming the military had initially repelled the attackers with vigour until a coordinated ambush from the rear turned the tide.

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) reportedly launched an attack on the ‘Garahamojili’ camp of the Nigerian Army in Adamawa State on Tuesday, resulting in the de@ths of two soldiers during a 20-minute firefight.

This was disclosed by Sahel security expert, Brant Philip via his X handle.

According to the report, the insurgents overran the camp, set it ablaze and destroyed three military vehicles.

They also allegedly carted away weapons and ammunition during the assault.

ISWAP claimed the attack was carried out as part of its recently launched “Burn the Camps” offensive.

According to the post, this would mark the first time the group has targeted a Nigerian Army camp in Adamawa State.
