This was my heaviest point in my life about 233 lbs. If you have seen me recently you may be aware of the fact I have been doing my bes to reduce the obvious bulge or let's face if big beer belly. (and I do not drink) The new milestone is I am as of this afternoon after i finished a 3 mile run under 200 lbs. Yea. I feel good and it was the beginning of this year as I looked back at the past I realized I had to do something. It was confirmed by the doctor when they read my blood test results and gave me the Triglycerides report. I go back for a retest at the doctor on April 5 a few days before I will be hiking in the Nicaraguan rain forest. I am really looking forward to going to El Gayo on the hike as I feel like I am the best shape I have been in for several years. Paise the Lord.

Kathy has done very well after sort of a slow start (4 days in CCU) and now we are really seeing her come to the point of feeling much better. She still has soreness and is not ready for rugby but she is beginning to function normally but with the caveat that she gets tired quickly. Yesterday we saw the surgeon and she ask about going back to work and his answer was she could do whatever she felt like doing but do not pick up anything too heavy or do not drive yet. So I think Kathy loves her job at the church a whole lot more than one more episode of the Beverly Hillbillys so I think she is headed into the office for a few hours today. This is remarkable. Some will say she is coming back too fast but I being among them, but if she is careful an will come home and rest after a few hours I think she will do great.

She is in the strech for the healing process however it is a long strech. She will be able to drive in about another week, but full healing of the breastbone takes 11 weeks. Thanks again for all the encourgement, cards, food, but most of all your going to the Father for Kathy. I know your prayers have made a differnce.

When we celebrate St Patrick's Day what is going on? St Patrick is in the Catholic Church the Patron Saint of Ireland. He was a real person who lived around 400 AD. When this British -Yes! British man- was about 16 years old he was taken captive by the Irish and was enslaved for about 6 to 10 years in Ireland. He escaped and after entering the church as a priest he became a missionary. He felt the call to go back to the ones who had enslaved him and worked in northwestern Ireland.

Another interesting thing I have read is that was the original color of St Patrick's day was blue. Of Course Green, and especially Green Beer are a part of what most think of for St Patrick's Day. Few would think about what St Patrick really did instead many would say he ran all the snakes out of Ireland. How far things can come from where they start and everyone accepts it.

St Patrick was a missionary bringing the Gospel to a heathen nation. Can we celebrate the Good News of Jesus Christ Today and seek to have the missionary spirit to take the Gospel to those who are enslaved?

Have a Great Day - Wear Green - and when someone comments on it tell them it is honor of a missionary.

Yesterday at the Davis house was really quiet. Only a couple of calls and no visitors. Kathy is doing so good she walked all the way to the street late yesterday afternoon. That is a long way as there and back is a little over a 1/4 mile. She has less pain now but is really starting to get a little stir crazy. Our Son Brett and his wife Ashley are in town today as he is on Spring Break from Beeson Divinty School. I know Kathy is looking forward to visiting with them today. All the cards and calls are apprciated and I know that she will be glad to hear from you as she is now starting to really feel better. She has her sights set on going back to work next week (just a little) and I have learned (from Mike Stephens) the most important words in a man's vocabulary are "Yes Dear."

After the quiet day yesterday I am trying to work and Brittany is getting back to school (she is home schooled) and we are starting to resume normal operations at our home. No laundry or house work for Kathy yet but we doing great. Praise the Lord for His touch.

We were talking about how blessed we are to have so many friends and suppoters and the phone rang. It was the Edible Arrangments People. They had a delievery for us of a fruit arrangment which I think was beautiful as well as two different floral arrangments that have come. Our home is filling up with food, flowers and faces of people expressing a wish for Kathy to get better. And better she is.

Two walks today. She was supposed to do 5 minutes twice today. The first one we went to Burnt Hickory Baptist and she rode up the elevator and walked around the top floor - 4 minutes elapesd time. Then we went to the office and just said hey to the staff who were thrilled to see her. Then back home a good storng 15 minutes with a few stops in the different parts of the walk.

The second walk was just a little while ago up the driveway. Four minutes of walking out got us about half way down our very long driveway and then just a little over that coming back made about a 9 minute walk. She is overdoing it already but she seems to be handeling it all very well.

Agin thanks for the blessings and the well wished they do make a difference to us.

Wow one week makes a huge difference when it comes to heart surgery. One week ago this morning I went in to see and speak to Kathy for the first time since the surgery. The nurse apologized to me that she had not gotten her out of the bed yet because she had not had time yet. She was not really even able to awaken and talk to me about anything except she was thirsty. She was being dried out by the medicines they had given and were still giving her and yet she could not have water as it would make her sick. All I could really do was take a little sponge on a stick and wet it or put the peppermint stuff they had and swab the inside of her poor dry mouth. This would have destroyed me if it had not been for hope. I had hope that soon this would pass and she would be able to come off meds and have all she wants to drink. Move Forward one week.

I just went to the refrigerator at home and opened some Welch's grape juice for her and she is sipping away at the fruit of the vine. She can speak and smile and watch the weather channel / HGTV her favorites.

Kathy is sore from the surgery, especially in her shoulders and neck. But Praise God it is so much different than a week ago. She walked for 5 minutes inside the house yesterday morning and then when the rain stopped yesterday she walked for 3 and one half minutes out the driveway and then back making a 7 minute walking session she is doing great ... more of the same today.

I do not know what your circumstance is this morning but I am delighted that you are reading but all of us face problems. Your problem no matter what it is can be changed dramatically in one week. Hope for you if you are troubled this morning.

Hebrews 12:1: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Somtimes we just need to really focus on what is priority and what is really important to us to get the true perspective of what we need to do in life. I am so thankful for the passing of a week but I would not want to give up the experiance of a life time to see my wife come so far in a week. Thanks for your prayer and continued prayers and support for our ministry.
