Right now I'm listening to On to the next one by Jay-Z... guess, you just can't kill the New Yorker in me :)

Listening to Jay is like NYC therapy. Sometimes its really hard creating a "home" away from "home" - I've been feeling quite homesick about being away from New York, best friends, parents and all. And dealing with a whole different culture on so many different levels - work, customs and social life...

Do you ever get "homesick" ?

Looking on the bright side my boys are here and thats all right with me :)

Also if you're ever in paris come check out Spoken Word Paris on Monday nights in Belleville. It's a cool and cozy lil bar with a stage where you can get up and do a reading, poetry or performance. Last night was off the hook, very powerful and moving.

My heart and prayers goes out to Haiti. It's been a week and so much still needs to be done. There are many people still without drinking water and living outdoors with the stench of dead bodies around them, searching desperately to find their loved ones.

Please help Haiti - anyway you can, disaster always seems to strike the poorest countries.

If you're considering a doantion please do so via trusted organisations such as The American Red Cross or Unicef.

There are also many local groups and people like my firend Leona organizing charity events to get food and clothing to the victims of the hurricane.

Topshop has just introduced a line of Parkas to their new collection - I've been seeing many women wearing their Parkas quite stylishly here in Paris - I bought mine at H&M and I wear it when I'm dressed up or down. It Just works - keeps me warm and it matches my green YSL bag :)

Parkas - the traditional unstylish utilitarian outerwear are making a huge comeback. Look out for them in 2010...

Nanette Lepore launches basics line Oonagh. Sometimes a diffusion retail line can just be too diluted - and thats exactly what oonagh looks like. According to the Cut Blog Nanette Lepore's

Oonagh "A smart move for a down market, Oonagh has a nice balance of loose, smart construction, up-to-date color palettes, and diffusion-line prices."

But is it just me of does this just look like loose clothign i canbuy at H&M or even Old Navy?

Soldes d'hiver - My Week in Sales

So I told you all that the Sales ( Soldes d'hiver Paris) have started lastweek - and to my disappointment I didint get ANYTHING at my new favorite brand store ACNE! - They no longer have the Extreme Strip Dress I wanted and the Atacomas were indeed in stock but not on sale!

BUT - it's since been a week and my heart has healed thanks to my good ole pal...H&M...seriously I'm still surprised at the stuff I can find at this very mainstream retail mainstay - Wool Cardigans & Silk Dresses for 20euros!!

Also, picked up three dresses at Et Vous for 70euro a pop - in purple, red and blue! Suck that! I'm sooo tired of wearing black like the rest of Paris - Gawd, I'm such a hypocrite. :)

Anyways going back to H&M and All Saints today, as today marks the start of the second markdown- which means 70% off and more in stores!

I think these sales are really bringing out the my very shallow yet frugal me. I kinda like it - getting a fashion fix and saving money at the same time gives a huge thrill.

Will try to do a mini-fashion show and post picks of things I've bought during the sale. Promise!

Who knew there was a fake YSL Imperiale made by Dolce Vita?

The YSL Imperiale has been one of the "it" heels of 2009 on the feet of many celebrity from Katy Perry to Lady GaGa. It's unique wedge + platform like heel has found a soft spot with many bloggers too.

The YSLs are now on sale almost everywhere, but if the price tag is still a bit over your budget - I've found that Dolce Vita does a nice impersonation (knock off) of the pumps with their "April" Platform pumps - and for only a fraction of the price of the YSL Imperiale.

Acne is fast becoming one of my favorite ready to wear brands - its simplistic takes on this 70s like dress is to die for. I'm seriously thinking about getting it for the $130 on one of my favorite online stores mytheresa.com but I'm so worried about the fit and if it will drape well on my body.

this is something I'd love to buy in a store here.

I'll have to look to see who stocks Acne in Paris. wish me luck!

When I just moved to paris I was in shock to find out the shopping culture- everything is expensive,even the cheap shit, sales people are blazee or downright rude, everywhere, stores are closed on Sundays( except in Le Marais) and worst of all real sales only happen twice a year! What the...!

OMG- a whole year of paying full price for everything! No damn Target, Daffys and no Century 21.

I think I've gotton used to all of this and now I get so excited about the upcoming winter Paris sale that starts in all stores this Wednesday - and best of all for the next 3 Wednesdays the price cuts gets deeper! - 30%-50%-70%...

Sale runs January 6 to February 10, 2010

The second sale will be in June/July, will keep you all posted.

Paris Windows: Colette

We went to Colette the other day and it was packed - I could hardly walk around without bumping into people. The Maison Martin Margiela concept space downstairs felt like a section of MoMa - plastic feet, glass slippers etc. Interesting.

And in the middle of taking photos one of the guys told me that wasn't allowed - opps sorry! WTF...

My friend Charlotte and I were walking around Paris on Wednesday - on our way back from Colette - and we saw this red ribbon wrapped store looking all festive - it was the Christian Louboutin store!

There was no writing on the outside above the entrance doors, no writings on the windows.

One side of the store faced the street and the other was hidden in a very cute Parisian style passage way - here they had kept the old signet of the old "Papeterie" that used to be there back in the day. But once we saw the shoes there was no mistaking this place for a Paper store - this was the house of Louboutin.

How to layer clothes for the winter - with style

Knowing how to layer clothes during the cold months is an art that you have to learn to survive during hard winters,* and still look somewhat fashionable or trendy.

Basically I always start with tank tops and tights/leggings over my regular underwear. Thermals are great but not always ideal if you're going for a "lighter" look. So materials that are blended with cashmere, angora , wool are worth the investment.

Regardless of the shoes I'm wearing, I always, always wear socks ( so many cool thin versions are available that won't look bulky with open toed booties or heels - and can even add another dimension to the outfit if you choose complementary color.

Inspiration Board

The basic stuff you can grab at just about any department store like Macy's or JCPennys.

Best tip I can give is to keep the color combination to a minimum of three. I like to mix black and grays, or beige and whites - and I'll throw in a colorful bag if I'm wearing all black.

You all are so much more stylish then I'm I'm sure you can rock whatever you like!

P.S. the white dress with the built in scarf is such a great all-in-one idea that goes well with leggings and cute biker boots. And I got a little carried away with those sequined high waist overpants - they're so Lady Gaga!

Acne makes the Atacoma up to a 9.5 which sucks for me cause I'm worried that my size 10 feet won't fit and the Jeffrey Campbell Alexa comes in a size 10 but are sold out everywhere.

I mean worldwide! I've been searching for these babies even on eBay - and to no damn avail!

Now I don't mean to whine and be a bitch and all but God dammit will somebody please bring these back! - or atleast put a size 10 on eBay?

If you've always wanted to buy the Alexander Wang Donna Hobo, but it was just a wee bit over your budget ASOS has done a nice job with their Washed Leather Utility Bag - that seems to pay tribute to the zipper utility features and worn in look that makes the Donna such a cool favorite.
