Bosch 1005VSRK 5.5 Amp 3/8-Inch Drill Customer Review: Cheap drill, but solid
I purchased this drill because I was looking for an inexpensive corded drill, and because my Bosch table saw is an excellent tool. I’m a homeowner/woodworker, and I do most of my work my garage workshop, so battery-powered drills don’t get me much. This drill does fit the bill.

I bought the drill, figuring that the reviews mentioning an inconsistent startup issues mentioned by the other reviews were old, and that Bosch would have fixed the issue. But, alas, it’s hard to tell exactly when and how quickly the drill will turn. It’s like the drill I learned to use 20 years ago as a kid. This absolutely fine if you’re drilling holes with conventional bits around the house — but if your main use for this tool were to drive screws or turn a doorknob cutter, this drill would drive you crazy.

Also, the motor’s reduction-gear make an unexpected mechanical noise. I took the drill apart and there was no inappropriate wear anywhere, so it’s all good. But it’s just surprisingly for those of us who are accustomed to modern drills.

The motor is reasonably powerful and I have yet to have it bog down on anything.

It’s a solid tool with decent ergonomics, and I expect it will give me years good service. But, in the mean time, I’ll be keeping an eye out for that elusive perfectly-designed reasonably-priced basic corded electric drill.

Customer Review: A really good cordless drill
My son gave me my first 18-volt cordless drill (Black & Decker) four years ago. It was adequate for light use, but lacked power.

I upgraded to the DEWALT 18-Volt Compact Drill when I started my barn project. I have definitely not been disappointed. It has far more power than my B&D and the two speed feature is a big plus allowing a slower speed for driving screws and a higher speed for drilling metals. The 1 hour charge feature is a big plus.

I highly recommend this item.

This is the best drill that I have ever owend. I have only used it a little bit since the purchase but bought this and am very happy with it. This is a very powerful drill. It even screwed right into 2×4 without pilot holes. Charge seems to hold for a long time. Make sure you charge as soon as you get it. I put the battery on the drill just to check for charge and it seemed to have one so I didn’t charge right away. Well charge from factory was minimal so had to stop project to charge the the batteries, good thing is the battery charged in about an hour.

Customer Review: Working great
Needed to make 3, 3/4 inch holes 4 inches deep in a concrete slab. A 60 year old concrete slab. I mention the age because as concrete ages it continues to harden. This drill worked fine using Bosch Blue Granite carbide bits. I first drilled a 1/4 inch hole. That hole actually was the slowest hole to drill. Then drilled it out to 3/4 inch in steps using 1/8 inch larger drill sizes. For the last 3/4 inch hole I used a bit made NOT by Bosch and the carbide tip chipped badly on the second and third holes. Caused by the hard aggregate in the slab concrete. The Bosch bits took it all in good shape. Probably took me 10 minutes each hole because of all of the bit swapping. Sure a Hilti would have done a hole in 30 seconds and it should for what it costs. Other choice was to rent a Hilti for about half of what the Bosch cost.
Customer Review: Mine burned out too
I have to join the others to report that my drill burned out drilling 5/32″ holes in concrete for Tapcon screws. I did have it for a few years but it didn’t get a lot of use. The only mitigating factor here is that I did use the drill to mix thin-set mortar and drywall compound about a dozen times. I was careful not to stress the motor too much when doing this, but it could have caused the early failure. Overall, I’m a big fan of Bosch tools. I love the planer, jig saw and angle grinder. I hear good things about their rotary hammers too. Second only to Hilti. But I think I’ll try the Milwaukee hammer drill next. It has a five year warranty and I’ll be sure to hold on to my receipt.

Customer Review: Bosch 1294VSK Detail Sander works great!
After comparing several detail sanders, I decided to get this Bosch kit and I have not been disappointed! This sander is well built, durable, and easy to use. I have used this sander on a number of projects already and absolutely love the performance it provides. It sands quickly and effortlessly even on hardwoods like oak. Changing out the backing pads is so easy and requires no tools. I had to do some searching to find replacement accessories for it but finally found everything at circlesaw.com. I use extra backing pads to hold different grits of sanding paper triangles. When I switch from a heavy or medium grit paper to a finer grit paper, I simply replace the pad equipped with the desired grit instead of peeling the paper off of the pad and replacing it with the proper grit paper. It makes switching back and forth with different grits of paper easier and faster. For small projects, that is not an issue. Amazon.com has this sander attractively priced and the sander provides a lot of bang for the buck.

Each year for Christmas it’s my job to find the perfect “power tool” for my boyfriend. I cannot tell you how pleased he has been with this year’s gift, his Bosch sander. Not only did we get the Christmas morning whoops of joy, but I hear about this project or that project on a weekly basis - so he must love it. Customer Review: Excellent Middle-of-the-Road Tool
I acquired mine for $20 at a pawn shop. (Price tag on the case read “drill-bit set” cashier opened the case… chuckled and said “well that’s a good deal”)

Excellent tool for general use. I use it as a cable installer about 95% of the time, only once in a while do I have to bust out my “real” drill, and that’s usually because I’ve run the battery down and have no time to charge it. I would definitely pay the usual 70-90 for it.

Customer Review: A smooth operator
I have only used two ROS in my shop. This is a comparison of those for fairness. I had a 5″ Ryobi ROS for several years. After the bag developed a hole in it and the pad came loose several times, I needed a new ROS. I purchased the Bosch and could not believe the difference. The Bosch was so much easier to control, it didn’t walk, and the vibration was far less. More importantly, the results were outstanding. It leaves a silky smooth finish on my projects. I am very hapy with my ROS’s performance and price.
Customer Review: poor durability and dust collection
I chose this sander based on a top review from fine woodworking, and as a woodworker, cabinetmaker and finish carpenter, my sanders get a fair amount of use. I like how it feels in my hand, most RO sanders are too big on top- unfortunately, that’s about the only good thing I can say about it. The dust collector has never worked- I can sand all day, and barely anything makes it into the canister- my old dewalt with a cloth bag worked much better. The other problem is durability- in just over a year, I’ve replaced the hook and loop pad three times, and now the bearing for the orbit action has gone out, and the pad wobbles instead of sanding flat, resulting in a poor finish , and lots of vibration and torque. And you can’t replace the bearing without replacing the entire fan/spinning assembly. I own a lot of bosch tools, but I feel like I’ve been throwing money and parts at this thing since I bought it. I just replaced it with a makita, and the dust collection is superb.

The drill appears to be new even though it say’s reconditioned. It is very powerful. I have used it to cut several 4.25″ holes in 2×10 wood joist. It also works great in the Hammer Drill setting.
