If you have anything to sell, you have to reach people who might like your products and convince them to buy your service/products. 4. Find Out the Pain Points of your Customer

All companies in this world can’t satisfy or fulfil all the customer’s requirements, and this is your chance. When you launch your products, bring a relief to their pain points, you are definitely going to get people and make them your loyal customers. Remember one thing, when a company grows and becomes a bigger brand, it can’t always satisfy their customer with the same dedication. This is due to high volumes of customers. Some percentage of people will look for alternates for their solution, unless you innovate on yours.

5. Ask Feedback from your Customer

When a customer buys your products or use your services, then you have to ask them feedback about your service or products. Some might have been satisfied and some might not. When you ask them for a feedback, you can figure out the ratio. If your positive feedback is higher than negative and neutral feedback, it means you are doing good (But always look to improve)

But if neutral feedback is high, it means you are giving the same service as equal to your giant competitor. If you are not finding anything new to resolve it, then you will lose.

6. Differentiate Yourself from your Competitor

If you are entirely a clone of your industry leader, your possibility of getting found will be low. So find a thing to differentiate your service or products from your competitor. It will give you exposure. It is important for all new startups. Same service and same approach mean people always choose to buy from brands. Be different or be unique

7. Be a Friend to your Customer Not Just a Service Provider

If a user uses your service multiple times, you have to make sure that you are maintaining a healthy relationship with them. When you have a friendship apart from business relationship, it will help you in retaining the existing customer and the chance of getting exposure from word of mouth is high. This is still a powerful tactic to improve your business.

8. Don’t Hesitate to implement a New Idea

A lot of startup companies are doing this mistake. If they are running smoothly and getting sales for their products and service, they might think about new ideas, but don’t end up implementing them. This is because of the fear that they may lose existing customers if their idea fails. Judging an idea without implementation is not a good method to grow a company. There is a big chance for getting good reviews for your ideas. So do not hesitate, just implement and check it.

9. Do Not Expect ROI as Money

In the initial stage, you should not expect ROI as money. If you expect that, then you will fail. Those who expect monetary ROI, particularly in B2C, will end up frustrated. Your ROI will be in another dimension which you can’t measure or identify. In my case, I expected ROI as Brand exposure for my startup Purebus. This is the reason for the success and the ability to compete with major brands.

10. Plan for a Long Time, Not for the Short Term

Plan for a long time and don’t make a short plan for your startup because long term plans will lead you to a long distance and help you to survive in the industry. Make a plan for at least three years.

In this planning stage, you have to decide the following

How much money I have?
How long can it be used?
Campaigns to execute in that period
Minimum and Maximum ROI
Measure ROI in various forms

These steps are not only applicable for startups, but you can also use it for your non-tech businesses. We have been following this strategy for five of our companies. It gave us the ability to survive for the long period. So don’t wait and don’t hesitate to try new things.

The FOA will now expire after 60 days if the transfer is not completed, unless we allow an automatic renewal and the registrant has expressly opted in to an automatic renewal.

● The FOA is void if the domain name expires before approval.

Inter-Registrant Transfers

● If a material change is made, we must collect consent from both the Prior Registrant and the New Registrant, prior to making the requested change, even if you represent both parties. A “material change” is a change in the name, company or email address listed for the registrant contact.

● If the Prior Registrant and New Registrant do not confirm the change within 60 days of the request, the change implementation will not proceed.

● Once both Prior and New Registrant parties agree to the requested contact changes, the information will be updated within 1 day after.

What are Physical Threats?

A physical threat is a potential cause of an incident that may result in loss or physical damage of the computer systems.

The following list classifies the physical threats into three (3) main categories;

Internal: The threats include fire, unstable power supply, humidity in the rooms housing the hardware etc.
External: These threats include lightening, floods, earthquakes etc.
Human: These threats include theft, vandalism of the infrastructure and/or hardware, disruption, accidental or intentional errors.

To protect computer systems from the above mentioned physical threats, an organization must have physical security control measures.

The following list shows some of the possible measures that can be taken:

Internal: Fire threats could be prevented by the use of automatic fire detectors and extinguishers that do not use water to put out fire. Unstable power supply can be prevented by the use of voltage controllers. An air conditioner can be used to control the humidity in the computer room.

What is hacking?

There are many definitions of hacking. In this article, we will define hacking as identifying weakness in computer systems and/or networks and exploiting the weaknesses to gain access. An example of hacking is using by passing the login algorithm to gain access to a system. A hacker is a person who finds and exploits weakness in computer systems and/or networks to gain access. Hackers are usually skilled computer programmers with knowledge of computer security.

Before we go any further, let’s look at some of the most commonly used terminologies in the world of hacking.

Types of Hackers

Hackers are classified according to the intent of their actions. The following list classifies hackers according to their intent.

	Hacktivist:A hacker who use hacking to send social, religious, and political etc. messages. This is usually done by hijacking websites and leaving the message on the hijacked website.
	Phreaker:A hacker who identifies and exploits weaknesses in telephones instead of computers.

What is Cybercrime?

Cybercrime is the use of computers and networks to perform illegal activities such as spreading computer viruses, online bullying, performing unauthorized electronic fund transfers etc. Most cybercrimes are committed through the internet. Some cybercrimes can also be carried out using mobile phones via SMS and online chatting applications.

Type of Cybercrime

The following list presents the common types of cybercrimes:
Computer fraud:Intentional deception for personal gain via the use of computer systems.
Privacy violation:Exposing personal information such as email addresses, phone number, account details etc. on social media, websites etc.
Identity Theft:Stealing personal information from somebody and impersonating that person.
Sharing copyrighted files/information:This involves distributing copyright protected files such as eBooks and computer programs etc.

What is ethical hacking?

Ethical hacking is identifying weakness in computer systems and/or computer networks and coming with counter measures that protect the weaknesses. Ethical hackers must abide by the following rules.

Get written permission from the owner of the computer system and/or computer network before hacking.
Protect the privacy of the organization been hacked.
Transparently report all the identified weaknesses in the computer system to the organization.
Inform hardware and software vendors of the identified weaknesses.

Why ethical hacking?

Information is one of the most valuable assets of an organization. Keeping information secure can protect an organization’s image and save an organization a lot of money.
Hacking can lead to loss of business for organizations that deal in finance such as PayPal. Ethical hacking puts them a step ahead of the cyber criminals who would otherwise lead to loss of business.

Legality of ethical hacking

Ethical hacking is legal if the hacker abides by the rules stipulated in the above section on the definition of ethical hacking. The International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council) provides a certification program that tests individual’s skills. Those who pass the examination are awarded with certificates. The certificates are supposed to be renewed after some time.

Introduction

In this article I will explain the important procedure or function that I used in Hotel Reservation System. I wrote this article in the purpose that you will be able to use some of the useful code here in my application. May it be a payroll system, inventory system, or any application that have the same concept like filling a Listview or Combobox.

Background

I made an upgrade with my Hotel Reservation System from VB 6.0 to VB.NET. Just a note though for VB 6.0 programmer –kindly continue with what you are doing right now if you feel you are more productive in version 6.0. But if you want to upgrade your knowledge, then I recommend using the new version which is VB.Net.

Using the Software

My Hotel Reservation System will help you manage a collection of data in your hotel. Moreover, you can record a reservation, check in, check out, payments, etc.

Filling a ListView Control

Overview

The Windows Forms ListView control displays a list of items with icons. You can use a list view to create a user interface like the right pane of Windows Explorer. The control has four view modes: LargeIcon, SmallIcon, List, and Details. Source: Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Documentation

In the previous paragraph, listview is used to display a list of items. So, in my application I used it to display a list of records from a table with a customize column.
To fill a listview in my program you call it like:

FillListView(lvList, GetData(sSql))

Where lvList in the first parameter is a ListView control in the FillListView procedure. The second parameter – GetData(sSql) will first call the GetData function and returns a data using OleDbDataReader.

Before we call the FillListView procedure, we will call first the procedure named FillList. In this procedure you can customize the number of columns that you want to show in a listview.

Because ListView from the calling procedure is being referenced in this procedure, you do not need to call the name of a form anymore, say form1.lvList. Instead you fill the listview with:

Points of interest

Since I am using a listview to retrieve the data from the table especially in my masterfiles, I don’t need to create the same code once again to fill the listview. All you need is to pass the name of a listview in the first parameter and the SQL string returned by OleDbDataReader to fill the listview control.

Filling a Combobox Control

Overview

The Windows Forms ComboBox control is used to display data in a drop-down combo box. By default, the ComboBox control appears in two parts: the top part is a text box that allows the user to type a list item. The second part is a list box that displays a list of items from which the user can select one. Source: Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Documentation

ComboBox is again another control that needs not to be filled with data using a redundant code. In this code snippet, we can fill the combobox with just one procedure by passing parameters from the calling form.

The procedure is called using this syntax:

FillCombobox(cboCountry, "SELECT * FROM Countries", "Countries", "Country", "CountryID")

Notice that there are 5 parameters that will be passed to the FillCombobox procedure. The first parameter which is cboCountry is the name of a combobox in your form that will be filled with data from Countries table in the second parameter, the third is just a dummy, which is actually the name of the table to be used in the datasource in the FillCombobox procedure, the fourth (Country) is the name of a field that has an actual data. The fifth parameter (CountryID) will be used to tag the actual data in Country field.

As you can see in this code:

The 3 properties of cboCombo will use the parameter that is being passed from the calling procedure. The best part here is the DisplayMember and ValueMember which actually holds the data. I remember that filling a combobox with data in version 6.0 of visual basic will certainly takes a lot of code. But now it’s a lot easier with vb.net.

DisplayMember is actually the dummy field for this combobox because the actual data that is saved in the database is the value from ValueMember.

Example:

ValueMember (CountyID)  DisplayMember (Country)
1       United States
2       India
3       Canada

This means that only the value of the CountryID will be saved in the table and not the Country.

Counting the Number of Records in a Table

In visual basic 6.0, if you are going to determine the number of records in a recordset, all you have to do is add a code like rs.recordcount, where rs is the name of a variable that holds the data.

However, in VB.NET this functionality has been removed. So, how can we figure out the number of recordset then?

The following is an example again from hotel reservation system.

Cloud v/s CDN v/s Geolocated Hosting: Which Should I Choose?

If you’re reading this, you’re probably a web developer who’s had this question across his mind at least once. Should I choose Cloud Hosting or Geolocated hosting or CDN to serve customers in different geographies? Having had regional hosting servers for all our other dsampy webs programs, we recently launched geolocated hosting in China and now have hosting available from servers in Hong Kong, US, India, Turkey and UK.

But let’s ask some vital questions first:

What is the purpose of geolocated hosting?
What should I choose if my client expects customers from multiple locations?
What about CDN?

If you’ve had at least one of these questions in mind, keep reading.

Why Should I think twice about Cloud Hosting for website visitors from various locations?

The common belief when it comes to serving customers from different locations is that Cloud Hosting, which boasts of high performance and turbo speed is probably a better option than geolocated hosting which in comparison, may not have the superior performance of the Cloud.

It is true that greatest advantage of the Cloud is amazing flexibility which makes it ideal for businesses with growing and fluctuating demands. Cloud easily gives you an advantage over competitors due to the sheer superiority of this type of hosting. But does this mean it’s the ideal hosting choice to serve visitors from locations around the globe?

Well, I’m here to tell you that that might not be the case.

What’s important to understand is that while the Cloud certainly is superior, local Cloud hosting still has servers in physical locations which, if aren’t close to your customers’ location, can affect the load speed time of your website. Surprised?

Your client’s customer is accessing the website from East India

If performance is your objective, Cloud hosting (which is definitely powerful and offers flexibility) would be an ideal choice. However, if low latency and high speed are important to you, geo-located servers are apt in this situation due to the sheer proximity of the server to the customer, which the Cloud might compromise on.

It’s important to assess your objective. Would you prefer the power of a Cloud server or the low latency from a geo-located server?

The alternative you could explore – CDN

Enter, CDN. CDN is short for content delivery network. It’s a system of distributed servers that deliver pages and content to users in different locations. It servers your webpage content from the closest edge-server to your visitor. Some examples of popular CDNs are Amazon’s CloudFront, CloudFlare, Akamai.

How does CDN improve speed?

CND stores copes of the files on your webpage in various locations around the world. When someone visits your website, these files are delivered to them from the closest CND server.

What are the advantages of CDN?

• Fast delivery

• Global reach

• Swift user experience

• Quick file loads

• Scalability

• High availability

What about Geolocated Hosting?

Usually, web providers have servers in locations around the world to enable faster load speed and lower latency.

Advantages of opting for geolocated hosting:

1. Proximity to market i.e. the distance data has to travel between your server and the user which affects load speed also known as latency. The closer the proximity, the greater the load speed. Geolocated hosting facilitates that. Try assessing your needs with the 80:20 ratio – where serving a majority of your clients’ customers is important to you.

2. Search Engine Optimisation Benefit: Server location is one of the many factors Google considers when delivering a webpage to check if your website is relevant for that geography or language. Google says, “The server location is often physically near your users and can be a signal about your site’s intended audience” therefore increasing your chances to be visible to the target audience in their searches.

3. Cost effective: Geolocated hosting is certainly more affordable than Cloud Hosting and CDN. If your business does not see very high volumes of traffic, this might just be the best budget solution. It’s economically better if you’re looking to cover more of your target audience.

Compared to traditional forms of investment, internet properties have a payback period that blows everything else out of the water. Most webmasters are willing to part with their pride and joy for 12 to 24 times monthly revenue. This means that simply buying and maintaining an established website without making any improvements will get you somewhere between 50 and 100 percent annual returns!

Compare this to traditional real estate which can generate 1.1% of total value per month at best, yielding 13.2% annual return. Long term stock market investors expect to see similar average annual returns.

The reason the return on websites is so high is a combination of the large scale of the internet user base, growing consumer trust online, and a lack of interest from old-school investors.

More and more money is changing hands online, and the internet is still in its Wild West days. Sooner or later, mainstream investors will catch on to the trend and the payback period on websites will grow longer and longer, until they match traditional investments.

So how can someone with limited technical knowledge begin investing in websites?

Just as you do when entering a traditional market, you should build an understanding of how the internet works, what a website actually is, along with techniques used to monetize a website. The learning curve isn’t very high with Internet Real Estate – if you know what is important and focus on what matters most.

A website draws in visitors in three ways.

Direct traffic: Visitors type http://yoursite.com directly into their browser.
Referral Traffic: Visitors follow a link from another site to your site.
Search Traffic: Visitors find your site using a search engine.

Technically, search traffic can be considered referral traffic, since you are actually following a link from the search engine’s website. But it is treated as a completely different category, since search algorithms decide where that link shows up instead of human, which is the case in most referral links.

Just by sheer volume of potential visitors, search traffic is the most important form of traffic to focus on as an internet investor. When done right, traffic from search engines can flood your site with targeted consumers – ready to spend money.

It is also worth mentioning that websites with a large, active, social media following can draw a massive amount of visitors at will. Sites with a large social media following can sometimes get much more referral traffic (from social media interaction) than search traffic, which is best-case scenario for a website owner since you are less reliant on Google’s algorithms for your success.

For these reasons, the two types of websites that I think you should focus on as an internet investor are “Niche Authority Sites” and “Membership Sites.”

Niche Authority Sites

A “niche authority site” is a website that is the leading resource for a specific, narrow subject. The reason the niche needs to be narrow is because the internet is simply so huge today, that becoming the ultimate resource on a broad subject (ie. Golf) requires a ton of resources. Unless you have the resources at your disposal to play in the big leagues (in which case, you would have no interest in this article) – find a website that has the potential to dominate its niche, and become the ultimate resource.

A niche authority site tends to have a loyal readership of people who find value in the solutions the site provides to them. Authority sites also tend to have a ton of original content which search engines will crawl and index. These two factors provide the site with reliable traffic that is easy to convert into buyers.

Membership Sites

A membership site is a website that offers some type of product or premium content, in exchange for a monthly (or yearly) fee. There are countless examples of membership-based websites out there from giants like Netflix, to smaller operations like Ramit Sethi’s Earn 1K Program. While neither of these will likely be for sale, there are small membership sites that have a loyal following, with very consistent revenue that you can buy.

The best part about membership sites is that they have very reliable revenue, and tend to market themselves once momentum is built up.

How does a website make money?

As you can (hopefully) see in the diagram above, a website can make money from a number of ways that all depend on getting visitors to the site – and getting those visitors to take action. The all-powerful click (or tap) is what drives today’s multi-billion dollar internet space. The reason behind that click can be broken down into these three monetization methods.

Advertising: Google’s AdSense program is the largest player here. Google AdSense (and other similar programs) offer a “pay-per-click” program in which advertisers are charged each time a visitor clicks on their ad, and you (the webmaster) are paid a percentage after Google takes their cut.
Products: You can offer products on your for sale. Standard E-commerce style (where you directly sell your own products), or as an affiliate (where you promote other’s products and earn commission). The largest affiliate network is ClickBank – which has so many products, I guarantee you can find one that matches your niche.
Membership: As we mentioned before, you can charge users for a product (usually software), or premium content – or even a combination of both.

Where to find a website for sale

Ok, we talked about the general types of sites to look for, but how do you know if a site is ripe for purchase? And where can you go to buy a website? Ebay?

The largest marketplace for websites is Flippa.com. After a recent update to their hierarchical listing structure, it is super easy to browse through different categories and types of sites. Flippa works on a reputation-based system, similar to Ebay, and also integrates with Escrow.com to ensure safe transfers.

For the internet investing novice, it is sometimes easier to work with a broker, who will do much of the work for you (for a fee of course). To find a broker, just type “website broker” or something similar to Google and have a look yourself, since there are so many out there it would be difficult to list.

Look for weakness and opportunity

When you’re looking for a website to purchase, it’s important to realize that you are not looking for a perfect website. In fact, imperfection is what we are looking for. The reason for this is simple – if you want to maximize the return on your investment, you need to be able to increase revenue as much as possible.

An ugly website is a good sign. What you should be looking for is:

A large amount of original content
Consistent visitor traffic
Mild success in the search engines and/or social media
Conversion of visitors to buyers (sales)

These factors indicate a solid foundation from which you can build upon. Many people end up spending more than they should because they are distracted by superficial factors, such as the design and other “hype” that the seller instills.

Before you start to bid on the site you’ve identified, you must conduct the necessary due diligence.

Verify claimed traffic: You should ask the seller for a snapshot of their Google Analyticstraffic at the very least.
Verify claimed earnings: Again, screenshots of earnings reports are a must.
Verify site ownership: Luckily, Flippa does this for you. If you aren’t using Flippa, you need to take measures to make sure that the person you are communicating with actually owns the site.
Check backlink health: Use a tool like Majestic Site Explorer to check the health of the website’s backlink profile. Pay particular attention to Citation Flow and Trust Flow (Guide).
Establish communication: Contact the seller and ask questions to get a feel for their level of experience and competency. It’s also a good idea to ask them about their most profitable products (if applicable).

What’s a good price?

Always make money on the buy, not the sell. Purchasing the right site for the right amount is significantly more important to your long-term returns than whatever you will ultimately sell the site for (if you even decide to sell). This is because a website makes money month after month, and getting a good deal on the right website will help you maximize the monthly income.

As a rule of thumb, 10-15 times monthly revenue is a great price for a website. Anything less than 8 times monthly revenue should make you suspicious. However, keep in mind that the real indicator of the value of a website is future income. If you are confident about future growth opportunities, it makes sense to spend a bit more. At the same time, be wary of risks to future earnings like waning trends or obsolete niches.

Growing your new website

Once you’ve acquired your new website, you need to spend time to come up with a growth strategy. Randomly writing new content and posting to Facebook isn’t going to give you good results.

Refer back to the mental model above, when we discussed how a website makes money. You can see that income will depend on the types of monetization methods you choose and the volume of visitors that you can funnel into these methods.

For all you math lovers, think of website monetization as the following equation:

(Traffic Volume) x (Conversion Rate) x (Profit Per Conversion) = Revenue

While initially you can go with your gut when choosing a monetization method, you need to test, measure, and compare to figure out which method works best for your audience and for your wallet.

To increase the volume of visitors purchasing products or clicking on ads, you can do two things.

Increase Conversions: This involves increasing the percentage of visitors that make purchases/click. Again, the key here is to test, measure, and compare to find what kind of text, layout, and design schemes work best for your audience.
Increase Traffic: Increasing the volume of people that visit your website will also increase your revenue. This can be done by conducting keyword research to identify high-traffic/low-competition keywords to target when writing content, producing content that goes viral on social media, networking with other website owners, and building up an email list.
