Review: Great setup for a small to mid-sized Home Theater.
I used the Quintet IV setup for about a year in my small-ish room and was mostly pleasantly surprised by the results and quality of this little system. Klipsch makes great speakers and this 5-channel package is no exception.

Likes:

As soon as you take the Quintets out of the box, you instantly know you’re holding a quality product. The speakers are solidly built and moderately weighty; certainly heavier than you’d expect from a satellite speaker system. The binding post connectors are a nice touch and are much appreciated as for the price they charge, Klipsch could’ve just as easily equipped them with cheap spring connectors. Another nice touch is that the bases are dual purpose and can be used instead as wall mounts. You can tell thought has gone into the design of these speakers. All of my wire runs were relatively short and I fed these with 16-gauge speaker wire, which is more than enough at shorter distances.

Please note that my rating is purely based on price to value (not the actual sound quality which I believe is a 5 out of 5)… If you’re considering the purchase of the new Bose CineMate GS Series II system please note that you might want to save some money and go with the earlier version, The Bose CineMate Series II system. I’ve been researching both systems for several days and have been trying to figure out how much better the new GS version is. After finding very little information online that compares the new GS version to the older version I finally decided to pick up the phone and call Crutchfield. Review: Between a rock and a hardplace; the right reasons to get this
While I did not buy this on Amazon–I actually thought I could only get it from BOSE directly–I felt compelled to write a review this based on the #1 negative review.

If you have any of the larger, thinner type TV’s of the last few years, you have three choices.
1. Simply use the two built in 10-20 watt rear and downward facing speakers… UGH!
2. Do the work for a true 3.1 or 5.1 system. Notice I ignored the 2.1, more on that later.
3. Use a high quality sound bar system.

I think most people agree. The built in speakers are garbage. To prove the point, most genuine home theater TV’s are actually Monitors and have no speakers. This brings me to point #2. Take the KURO line of TV’s as an example of the Monitor TV I mentioned. This is what I paired with a 5.1 surround system. The audio system was nearly as much as the TV, and that is because I did what I could to avoid spending 2x the TV cost in Audiophile grade components. The one lesson…

Review : Perfect for basic use!
I purchased this laptop about a month ago for basic use (internet, videos, word processing, etc) and it has so far been wonderful.

Pros:
- Fans are very quiet and this machine almost never feels warm even after watching a movie. Very surprised after reading other reviews that say it can sometimes run hot.
- Fantastic keyboard.
- Very nice sound quality. Sound is better in my headphones than my iMac.
- Nice graphics.
- Perfect size.

Cons:
- Battery life is only ~4 hours.
- A little heavier than other new laptops, though this isn’t a big issue.

*I have not tried gaming on this computer.

Overall, I’d say this computer is a great purchase for any student, especially for the price.

Review : Buyer Beware – 0-2
I am careful to write negative reviews because there are always exceptions.
I have purchased 2 of these in the past year for low volume processing at home for kids etc.
This laptop is worth avoiding. It does not have the horsepower to run a full office suite but even when I upgraded the RAM to 8Gig it is a lemon.
I purchased one from Best Buy and have had it back and forwards with problems and finally gave up after a year.
The second I purchased from Amazon and it has totally crapped out after two months. Can’t even fire it up in repair mode.
I run a secure network in my home and have 5 other laptops and PC’s all with no problems.
The statistics are not good. Not worth the hassle and the money you save.

Review : Must add memory to find happiness with this laptop – Update 12/9 Returned
Purchased during Black Friday as a Lighting Deal. I knew by the specs it was a ‘basic’ laptop. I knew immediately I’d be adding memory to this one (which ships with only 2GB of memory – barely enough to open any Windows OS) to make it work for me.

I did a search and found 4GB DDR3 1066MHZ Sodimm-toshib would work wiht this model, and I bought (2) 4GB memory modules, to boost the total memory to 8GB. There are only 2 memory slots, and it’s been my experience that when upgrading memory it’s best to add two identical pairs.

Adding memory really helped a lot! Browsers (I added Google Chrome and it ships with Explorer 10) opened quickly, and I found no glitchy operations when opening several programs at one time. WiFi speed and processor speed are also factors in overall performance, but memory is the one upgrade that vastly improves a PC’s performance and that’s cheap and easy to do…
