In the Air Force the wing commander would have what was called a “Stand-up Briefing” every morning. In that briefing each of the squadron commanders and all of the staff officers would be present to discuss anything of interest that happened in the previous day and key elements of what was on the schedule for that day. In that way everyone was involved in the total operation of the wing.

What if you had a weekly stand-up briefing for your relationship? You could tell what you did in that past week, what your appreciated about your partner in the past week, and what you planned for the upcoming week. You might also want to comment on how you feel about the state of your relationship and what you plan to do to deepen it. That would build intimacy.

Some might be looking for something that might give libido a boost; I found an article that talked about herbal supplements for the libido. Herbal supplements might be good but there are some resources in our own bodies that could make a big difference.

What was missing in the article was a discussion of hormones and the effects they have on sexual desire. Another missing element was the effect that conscious connection has on horniness.

Testosterone is the major fuel for sexual desire. Men get a pretty steady drip of T throughout the day; however the amount of T diminishes with age. Women generate T in differing amounts during their monthly cycle, peaking just before ovulation. With ageing, both men and women can supplement T with bio-identical hormone replacement which has shown to improve sexual desire.

The feeling of love that comes with a strong loving connection between partners produces oxytocin, the bonding and love hormone. The effects of oxytocin on libido are not as pronounced as testosterone and still oxytocin makes a significant contribution. As couples connect and physically begin touching, oxytocin flows and desire builds.

A recent article in “Men’s Health’ states that women are becoming more assertive in the bedroom and in other areas of the household.  Women now know what they want and aren’t afraid to ask for it.

Some men now say they are feeling pressured to have more sex than they want. These men may be suffering from that old performance anxiety thing. They feel that they have to get in there and work hard to make her happy and they don’t have the energy to do it. What’s wrong with that concept is that while the women do want their orgasms and do want to be made happy, it doesn’t have to be a performance. Men often find that when they listen to what the woman wants, it’s not so difficult to make that happen.
