With all cricket action postponed or cancelled, fans are desperately waiting on a decision by ICC and its members on weather the ICC World T20 will take place or not, and if so, where?

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is originally scheduled to host the tournament in Australia starting on the 18^th of October this year but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, ICC may be forced to look through options on weather the tournament will continue, and if it does, where.

“We are continuing with our planning for ICC events as they are, but given the rapidly evolving situation as a prudent and responsible measure we are also undertaking a comprehensive contingency planning exercise”, said an ICC spokesman (cricingif).

“This includes exploring all options available to us based on a range of scenarios connected to the pandemic,” he also said.

What are the options?

The first and most rooted-for possibility is the original plan. Hosting the event in Australia. Currently, Australia has 6,542 confirmed cases with 3,747 recoveries, and 65 deaths. If the tournament continues as scheduled in Australia, it is almost certain that all matches will be held behind closed doors, which means crowd will not be allowed in stadiums.

The other possibility is the tournament being pushed back a year to 2021.

Currently, the Australian government has closed its borders and imposed travel bans which if it continues, the tournament will be forced to shift to another venue, or be postponed, or more terrifying, CANCELLED.

Shane Warne includes two Pakistan Cricketers in his All Time XI

As the Covid-19 lockdown progresses, cricketers have started releasing their All-time-XI’s to make the lives of fans and experts a little more interesting. As little as a day after Shahid Afridi released his All-time-XI, (available here) Shane Warne released his own version. Warne’s XI consists of two Pakistani greats and as you might have guessed, they’re both bowlers.

Warne’s XI:

Virender Sehwag, Sanath Jayasuriyah, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Kevin Pietersen, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Andrew Flintoff, Wasim Akram, Daniel Vettori, Shoaib Akhtar, and Curtly Ambrose.

Wasim Akram is the second highest wicket taker in ODI cricket history, with 502 wickets in 356 matches to his name (avg: 23.52)

On the other hand, Shoaib Akhtar is that terrifying bowler, any batsman would hesitate to hear his name. Still holding the record for the fastest bowl ever recorded Shoaib is the second Pakistani in Warne’s all time XI.

The COVID-19 lockdown is boring for us and is almost equally as boring for International Cricketing Stars. However, this does not stop top cricketer’s from having fun at home and keeping their fanbase engaged and following the sport. To do so, Pakistan’s star, Shahid Afridi released his own version of All-time best cricketing XI.

Shahid Afridi’s all-time-XI

Afridi named Pakistan’s second highest score in ODI’s record holder, Saeed Anwar and Australia’s legendary, Adam Gilchrist as the XI’s opening pair.

Ricky Pointing, Sachin Tendulkar, Inzamam ul Haq, and Jaccques Kallis were his middle order batsman along with Rashid Latif who acts as team’s wicket keeper.

Kings of Swing: Wasim Akram and Glenn McGrath along with Rawalpindi Express: Shoaib Akhtar, and the legendary spinner who could spin the ball miles: Shane Warne were part of Afridi’s all time XI’s bowling lineup.

The cricketer received major criticism by local, international fans and critics. Points as such were made as, Why the team consists of 5 Pakistani cricketers? Why Virat Kohli and other current big names aren’t present in the XI, and why Rashid Latif was included in the lineup.

3 changes Pakistan need to make to beat South Africa

The cricket World Cup has opened wide after England lost to Sri Lanka on Friday but with Australia, New Zealand and India comfortably in the top three, the race will only be for the fourth spot.

Pakistan are currently on the ninth position courtesy a horrific show in the World Cup until now, but they face South Africa on Sunday, another team which is struggling and both will be looking for a welcome win to get their campaign back on track

While both teams boasts a pace battery which can destroy any batting line-up on a given day, the problem lies in the batting department where lack of stars is causing the teams to lose the plot when chasing or setting a target.

Here are the three changes which Pakistan need to make in their line-up if they want to beat South Africa on Sunday and breathe some life into their World Cup campaign.

1. Bring in Haris Sohail

As we saw against India, Pakistan need someone stable and dependable in the middle-order unlike Shoaib Malik and Asif Ali who have doing nearly nothing with the bat and also without it in the field.

Bringing in Haris Sohail gives Sarfaraz a much-needed all-rounder who can consolidate the innings if the openers depart quickly and also bowl a few overs of left-arm spin.

His presence will also give Babar Azam the cushion of playing fearlessly without worrying about holding the wicket.

2. Give Hasan a break

It is not important for Pakistan that they give youngster Mohammad Husnain a chance in their pace line-up, rather it’s more pertinent that they give Hasan Ali a break to gather his thoughts and review his performance.

The pacer, who rose the occasion in the Champions Trophy with his middle-overs heroics, has lost his Midas touch where he was able to churn out wickets regularly for Pakistan.

The pacer is relying more on pace and line and length while ignoring the fact that change of pace and variations have been doing wonders for him in the past.

A break will help him realise that his strengths are still valid, only if he knows when to use them.

3. Change of attitude

If you are in a World Cup, for at least two month, the players should forget everything and focus on only the silverware.

Pakistan team has embroiled in so much controversy only during the tournament that they don’t need any more till the end of year maybe to make it into the news.

The players need to realise that they are in England to serve a purpose, to represent Pakistan in the World Cup and only that.

Small outings and a day off never hurt anyone, but if you are not performing at par, then those hours could be spent in the nets and in the dressing room, preparing strategies and game plans for matches.

Also yawning and sloppy running while fielding is a big no if you are trying to beat the best sides in the world. A positive attitude can work wonders for the team and since Sarfaraz is leading the camp, it becomes his responsibility to invoke confidence into the players when they are on the field.

Faf Du Plessis suspended for final test match!

South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis has been suspended for one Test for the second minor over-rate offence within 1 year.

du Plessis will miss the third and the final Test against Pakistan as he has been suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC). He has also been fined 20 percent of his match fees, while his players have been fined 10 percent for maintaining a slow over-rate during the second Test match against Pakistan.

According to the match referee David Boon, South Africa were ruled to be one over short after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

du Plessis was also previously found guilty of a minor over-rate offence during the Centurion Test against India on 17th January, 2018 and after the second Test match against Pakistan, it means that the South Africa skipper has been found guilty for the second time within 12 months, which results in a one-match suspension according to ICC.

The third Test match between South Africa and Pakistan will start on 11th January at Johannesburg. du Plessis won’t be able to feature in the match, but he will be able to collect the series trophy after the end of the match as the hosts have already clinched the series 2-0.

The Pakistan-Australia series has been a thrilling series undergoing in the UAE with one match remaining. Winning the two-match Test series 1-0, and three-match T20 series 2-0 with one match remaining, Pakistani fielding side has shown unorthodox efforts and major improvement as compared to the last couple of years. The following is a brilliant no-look run out by Fakhar Zaman in the Second T20. The runout, not only getting Fakhar praise from fans but also earnt admiration and remarkable words to his name.

“The way Fakhar Zaman did that run-out, even Johnty Rhodes would not have done a run-out like that”, said the delighted captain.

While it is still arguable if Johnty Rhodes could’ve managed to pull-off a run out as such, Fakhar Zaman deserves many applauds his way. He has been brilliant in the out-field since his debut and has not proved selectors wrong in with his aggressive opening batting style. The left-hander is now a full member of the Pakistan Cricket Team playing all three formats.

Pakistan extend lead by six points at top of ICC T20 Rankings

Pakistan regained lost ground in the T20 rankings as they returned to 131 points at the top of the table with a six-point cushion.

Pakistan had earlier slipped to 129 points – still number one – after a crushing nine-wicket defeat to Australia in the T20 tri-series in Zimbabwe. The Aussies, meanwhile had risen to second position following two big wins and were just three points behind Sarfraz Ahmed‘s team.

However, following Pakistan’s 45-run win against Australia on Thursday and the Aussies’ scratchy win over hosts Zimbabwe on Friday, Pakistan are back in a comfortable position as the No1 T20 team in the world.

India have won one and lost one T20 in England and are now placed second on 125, six points behind Pakistan. Australia are down to third on 124 points.

Batsman Sahibzada Farhan to make T20 debut against Australia in Tri-series final

Pakistan are set to hand batsman Sahibzada Farhan his international debut in the T20 tri-series final against Australia in Harare on Sunday.

Speaking on the eve of the final, Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed said top-order batsman Farhan is the only change in the playing eleven.

“Farhan will be making his debut tomorrow and he will open in place of Haris Sohail. Hasan Ali is in the 12-man squad,” Sarfraz said.

Sohail made 16 and nought in two outings in the T20 tri-series.

Farhan has been in fine form in white-ball cricket since March. Playing for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League, Farhan scored a fine 44 from 33 balls opening the innings in the final in March at Karachi against Peshawar Zalmi, helping his side chase down 149 for the title.

In List A cricket, Farhan has hit 155 and 73 in his last four matches.

New Zealand expected to play T20's in Pakistan after 15 years

WELLINGTON: New Zealand are weighing up playing cricket in Pakistan for the first time in 15 years.

New Zealand have not played in Pakistan since 2003 because of security concerns but have been asked to play Twenty20 matches in the country later this year by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said.

“NZC has received a request from the PCB chairman for New Zealand to play in Pakistan,” an NZC spokesman said.“At the moment NZC is doing due diligence on the request and consulting with security providers, the government, and the players.

“We will respond to the PCB when this process has been completed.”The Black Caps are scheduled to play Tests and One-day Internationals (ODIs) against Pakistan in November at the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the country’s designated “home” base.

No dates have been issued for those matches yet. Pakistan have remained largely starved of international cricket at home since the 2009 attacks on a bus carrying Sri Lanka’s team in Lahore, which wounded six players and a British coach, and killed eight Pakistanis.

New Zealand abandoned their last Test tour of Pakistan in 2002 after a bomb exploded outside their Karachi hotel but they returned to play an ODI series in 2003. New Zealand were scheduled to play a two-Test series, but the tour was cut short after one Test. On the morning the second Test was due to start, a massive bomb blast outside the hotel the teams were staying at killed 15 people, including 11 French engineers. The New Zealand team was not thought to be a target.

The tour was immediate cancelled, with the team flying back home that very day. They were also scheduled to tour in December 2009, but their series was cancelled after the attack on the Sri Lanka team bus.

Pakistan media, citing an unnamed source in the PCB, reported that Australia had also been approached to play in the country.Australia are scheduled to play Tests and limited overs matches against Pakistan at the UAE in September or October.

Cricket Australia (CA) declined to confirm the approach but said their next series against Pakistan would remain in the Middle East.“The safety and security of Australian players is our number one priority,” a CA spokesman said.

“From an Australia team perspective, we are not contemplating moving our current bilateral-tour arrangements from taking on Pakistan in the Middle East, when they host the next series.” Australia last arrived in Pakistan two decades ago in 1998, playing three Tests and five ODIs.

Since Zimbabwe visited for three ODIs and two T20Is in 2015, Pakistan have played host to four Pakistan Super League matches, three T20Is against an ICC World XI, one T20I against Sri Lanka and three T20Is against the West Indies last month.

PCB to host PSL matches in Multan-Pindi Stadium

Islamabad: PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) is underway to renovate Pindi Stadium amongst others, to possibly host international cricket and, as whole, Pakistan Super League (PSL). According to daily times, PCB Chairman, Najam Sethi will spend around Rs. 1 billion ($8.6million USD) for the renovation of Pindi Stadium scheduled for the next three years. Last month Sethi stated that potentially, all PSL 2019 matches would be held in Pakistan. He named Hyderabad’s Niaz Stadium, Multan Stadium, Pindi Stadium, and Peshawar’s Arab Niaz stadium as possible venues including Gaddafi Stadium (Lahore) and National Stadium (Karachi).

The multimillion dollar investment is an attempt to improve PCB’s infrastructure and revive international cricket in Pakistan. Sri Lanka, West Indies, World XI, and Zimbabwe have visited the country in the recent years since the 2009 attacks.

All these matches have been limited to Lahore and Karachi however. “From next year onward our plan is to organize the PSL and international matches in Multan and Pindi Stadium. That is the reason why we are planning to invest in these two stadiums”, said Sethi. “Since Pindi would be used for international matches, efforts are on to give the stadium and surroundings a clean and attractive look”, he also added.

PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) chairman, Najam Sethi stated he’s working to hold the entire 2019 edition of PSL (Pakistan Super League) in Pakistan itself.

With Pakistan’s home international games still being played in the UAE, PCB has made big steps for the revival of international cricket in Pakistan. Since the 2009 Bus Attack, primarily Zimbabwe, World XI, Sri Lanka, and PSL 2016 final has been successfully held in Pakistan.

For the upcoming edition) Karachi has been named to host the finals and Lahore to host the play-offs of PSL.

Sethi hopes to host the next edition entirely in the country itself. Speaking with Sportstar on Saturday, he stated, “Hopefully, we can shift the PSL fully to Pakistan next year. That will pave the way for a full series in Pakistan by a top team”

Following PSL finals in Karachi, Windies Cricket Team will be enroute to play a 3-match T20 international series in Lahore, starting March 29^th.

The 2018 edition of PSL is ready to kick-off on February 22^nd with the fist match held in Dubai, and will end on March 25^th, with the finals in Karachi.

Following Windies tour of Pakistan, Pakistan will travel to USA to play tri-series against Bangladesh and West Indies held in Orlando, Florida.

Owner of PSL Franchise, Karachi Kings, Salman Iqbal has confirmed the availability of all seven foreign players to play in Pakistan for the play-offs and final of the HBL PSL.

“Six of our seven (foreign) players are ready to come and play in Pakistan”, he said. “Eoin Morgan, who has commitments to other leagues, He will be coming late and leaving early” he also added.

“Over all, 98% of all foreign players have agreed to play in Lahore and Karachi for PSL play-offs and the final” he further said, this confirms almost all foreign players from all 6 franchises’ have agreed to play in Pakistan.

Recently Owner of Omar Associates, and PSL Franchise team, Quetta Gladiators also confirmed all their players including Shane Watson has agreed to travel to Pakistan and play matches with one exception being Kevin Pieterson.

The third edition of PSL will kick-off from February 22^nd in the UAE, and will end-off in Karachi on March 25^th, 2018 followed by a couple of play-off’s played in Lahore.

Babar Azam climbs to No. 1 spot in the ICC T20 Rankings

Pakistan’s batting star stormed his way to the No. 1 spot in the ICC T20 rankings. Pakistan Team also replaced New Zealand at the No. 1 spot in the ICC T20 rankings. The no. 1 spot resulted from a 2-1 win over New Zealand, and 109 runs in 3 T20’s scored by Azam.

Babar is only the second batsman to have topped the ICC T20 rankings. Misbah ul haq was the first who did it back in 2009. Collin Munro who started the series as NO. 1 slipped to no. 4. (via crictracker)

In his first match, Babar scored 41 off 41 deliveries. He played an even better inning of 50 from 29 deliveries in the next T20 and remained not-out. In the third and final T20, he managed to score only 18 from 17 deliveries, making him the No. 1 T20 ranked batsman.

Pakistan lost the first match in the three-match series but came back with a bang in the next two winning both and taking the series 2-1. After the historic series win, Pakistan climbed to the No. 1 spot in the ICC T20 rankings.

Pakistan on Top of the World, No. 1 in ICC T20 Rankings

Pakistan Cricket Team has returned to the top of the ICC T20 international Team Rankings for the 3^rd time in the past few months after clinching 3 match series 2-1 to their name against New Zealand.

Pakistan entered the series with 124 points (ranked no. 2) under New Zealand with 126 points (ranked no.1). However, a 2-1 series win made Pakistan jump to 126 points, whilst New Zealand slipped to 2^nd position with 123 points.

Batting first Pakistan put up a competitive total of 181 for the loss of 6 wickets. Fakhar Zaman became the highest scorer of the inning with 46 runs of 36 deliveries. Umar Amin played the final four overs and added 58 runs to the total alongside his partner. New Zealand managed to score 163 for the loss of 6 in reply to Pakistan and ended up on the losing side.

New Zealand struggled from the start in reply to the mammoth total posted by Pakistan. More pressure was put upon them as Kane Williamson’s wicket fell apart in the fifth over. Gutill, being the highest scorer of the New Zealand side scored 53 runs off 43 deliveries. But the required run-rate had climbed to 13.57, which created ultimate pressure, costing Guptil’s wicket. Ross Taylor put up a great cameo off 10 deliveries, but Amir’s brilliance withdrew Taylor from the field.

Babar Azam smashed 26 ball 100 in T10 match

Following the first ever T10 league in Dubai, The Shahid Afridi Foundation hosted its own charity T10 League of the same format in Pakistan. The league took place in the historic city of Faisalabad. Batting first the SAF Reds scored 201 losing 1 wicket in 10 overs. SAF green in reply responded strongly powered by Babar Azam’s 26-ball-hundred.

SAF Red posted 201-1 in their 10 overs after blistering knocks by Shoaib Malik and Fakhar Zaman. Malik scored 84 from 20 deliveries and Zaman scored 76 from 23. In one of the overs Babar Azam was smashed for six sixes by Shoaib Malik.

Walking towards the first t10 hundred, Babar Azam ripped 11 sixes and 7 boundaries. Babar played with an unbelievable strike-rate of 384.62.

ICC awards 2017: Five contenders for ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year award

The ICC (international cricket council) will announce the winners of ICC Awards in the upcoming days. The award ICC player of the year was last won by Quinton De Kock in 2016 for his exceptional performance throughout the year with the bat. The former winner along with Babar Azam, Faf du Plessis, and Jasprit Bumrah missed the cut for being nominated in top 5 contenders for the cricketer of the year award.

#5 Rohit Sharma

In the voting period, Rohit Sharma bagged 1,416 runs and is the only player out of the 5 to have scored more than 1000 runs in the voting period. Sharma has played 174 ODI’s with 6424 runs to his name, and average of 45.23, and strike-rate of 87.08. He has 3 hundreds, 3 double hundreds, and 9 half-centuries to his name.

#4 Rashid Khan

The leg spinner is the leading wicket-taker from during the voting period, and the second highest wicket-taker of 2017. The Afghani Spinner has bagged 50 wickets from just 19 matches during the voting period. The 19 years-old (or so) has an unbelievable 70 wickets from 32 matches.

#3 Hasan Ali

The main reason behind Pakistan’s 2017 triumph over the world, Hasan Ali, a 23-year-old fast bowled is undoubtfully one of the 5 contenders for the ICC player of the Year (ODI) award. During the voting period Hasan picked up 48 wickets from 32 matches. Overall Hasan has 56 wickets from 26 matches, and is currently ranked No. 1 bowler in the ICC ODI bowling rankings.

The Australian Aggression. The giant has dominated the Australian batting line-up since the 2015 world cup. No way Warner would not be a contender for the ICC player of the year award. Warner played 22 ODI’s and grabbed 1,424 runs during the voting period. Overall Warner has 5901 runs from 69 matches with an average of 47.97.

With stats like that, Warner has a big chance of winning this years ICC ODI player of the Year Award.

Batting is what is more admired by many, but bowling is an art on some can do, and when it comes to fast bowling these 5 bowlers are undoubtfully the best in the world right now. In 2017 many new bowlers emerged from teams and distorted through opposition batting, here am I with the list of top 5 highest wicket-takers in ODIs this year.

#5 Hardik Pandya

2017 turned out to be a great year for the all-rounder. Pandya took 29 wickets from 27 matches with an average of 36.27, economy of 5.61, and best figures of 3/40.

#Liam Plunkett

Year 2017 finalized his place in the English Cricket Team’s limited over format. He swings the ball at good pace creating trouble for batsmen. Plunkett took 36 wickets from 18 matches with an avg of 22.47, economy of 5.62 and best figures of 5/52.

#Jasprit Bumrah

As the year 2017 is ending, ICC is looking back at Pakistan’s best moments of 2017 and picked out the latest sensation, Hasan Ali’s ball of the year 2017. On their recent Twitter post, they praised the fast-bowler on his No. 1 ODI bowler rank and picked out his ball of the year 2017.

Azhar Ali made a brilliant comeback with a century and completed 10,000 runs in First Class cricket.

The right-hand opener was ruled out of action due to problems with his knee during the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka test series. As a result, Azhar was dropped from the 5-match ODI series. Coming back almost after two months, Azhar scored a first-class ton scoring 118 off 228 deliveries playing for SNPL. The 32-year old hit 12 boundaries to reach his century. Azhar has played 153 first-class matches, scoring 10,000 runs with a 41.51 avg, 33 centuries, and 41 half-centuries. Azhar Ali is also ranked 9^th in the ICC Test batsman rankings, which is currently the highest position a Pakistani Test batsman is on.

The century will assure his comeback to the Green Team against the Black Caps next year. Azhar Ali has scored 3 ODI centuries for Pakistan playing 50 games with 1833 runs to his name. The 32-year-old has also previously captained the Pakistan Team.

Pakistan’s super star, Mohammad Amir said he is happy with his performance since his return to international cricket. He also mentioned it was very difficult for him to make a comeback after not being in any action 5 years. The pacer also told ESPNcricinfo he bowled the second most number of overs last year. He also thanked the Almighty for keeping him fit as he was away for 5 years.

He tooled ESPN’s respect host that the two deliveries he bowled against Virat Kohli in Champions Trophy earlier this year changed his image in English conditions. Virat Kohli was dropped on the first occasion, was caught by Shadab the very next ball.

“Those two deliveries, the first one which Azhar (Bhai) dropped kohli’s catch and the next ball where I claimed his wicket changed my image in UK” said Amir. “When I was walking back to my bowling mark after the dropped catch, I was thinking that we have lost half the final now”.

He also said that he hasn’t lost any swing in his bowling, and it’s the non-friendly pitches not helping him turn the ball. Amir feels he is available in all the three formats of the game.

The answer is NO! unfortunately. “I can’t have those long hair back, at that time didn’t even have a beard, now he does” he said in a sarcastic way.
