IDD4 - An Indie-pendence Day Party

Date: July 4, 2009
Location: The Boat
There are lots of Americans in Toronto who are going to need a place to let their hair down on July 4th. We are going to provide such a venue. Look for a mix of Brit-pop, Canadian pop and cool bands from Brooklyn being on the set list.

$5
9:pm - close

This is the second dance party held by the crew over at the Panic Manual. Here is that speech from Independance Day, adjusted for our dance party:

Good morning. In less than a few months, people from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest dance party in this history of mankind (or the boat).
Mankind that word should have new meaning for all of us today.
We cant be consumed by our petty differences anymore.
We will be united in our common interests.
Perhaps its fate that today is the 4th of July, and you will once again be dancing for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution but from not having a long weekend in July this year.
Were dancing for our right to live, to exist.
And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice:
We will not go quietly into the night!
We will not vanish without a fight!
Were going to live on!
Were going to survive!
Today, we celebrate our Indie-pendence Day!

ROADSWORTH: CROSSING THE LINE

Dates: July 8, 2009 to July 9, 2009
Location: NFB MEDIATHEQUE416.973.3012 |
ROADSWORTH: CROSSING THE LINE
Official Selection, Hot Docs 2009
July 8, 9 and 10 at the NFB Cinema - 7 PM
Roadsworth: Crossing the Line details a Montreal stencil artists clandestine campaign to make his mark on the city streets.
Hailed as an "artist's artist" by Wooster Collective, Roadsworth began to play with the language of the streets, overlaying city asphalt markings with his own images: a crosswalk becames a giant boot print, vines choked up traffic dividers, and electrical plugs filled parking spots. Each piece begged the question, Who owns public space? As he is prosecuted at home and celebrated abroad, Roadsworth struggles to defend his work, define himself as an artist and address difficult questions about art and freedom of expression. Directed by Alan Kohl.

xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Saturday July 4th @ 751 (Downstairs)
751 Queen st. w.

Awwww shit, its about that time. Last month was pretty off the hook but it was nothing compared to what July has is store. We are going to go big this month cause Its our very own Matthew (Bill Duke's) special birthday banger.
Were talking balloons, big beats, and alot of sweaty drunk people humping on the dancefloor all for the price of $0. But if that wasnt enough convincing, how bout this:

MEM RX
xxxxxxxxxxx
This guy absolutely killed it a month ago at Base War and had a packed room well into closing. Were gonna move him up to prime time so everyone else can find out what they're missing.

ERROL
xxxxxxxxxxx
Carl is the guy you can always trust to bring the party and he's has a bunch of new tricks up his sleeve for this one.

DVSN
xxxxxxxxxxx
Finds a way to turn the bass up to 11 every month. Those speakers are going to have a workout.

Bill Duke
xxxxxxxxxxx
Its his party and he'll play what he wants to.

Drinks will be hella cheap and its totally free.

dont miss out on this one, youll be sorry if you do.

ANGLICIZE THE DISCOTHEQUE 3

Dates: July 3, 2009 to July 4, 2009
Location: Rancho Relaxo (300 College Street, Toronto, Ontario)
PRESENTING:

+The Tape Deck Bros
Upcoming release: 'Electronics' LP

The musical movement that has Toronto moving its feet, and just generally gettin' dirty. You've seen the cubic heads, you've heard of the havoc they've incited at fine Toronto establishments such as Strangelove, The Augusta House, and The Social. Catch them yet again, at the hottest intimate show this Friday, July 3rd

+PLove
Upcoming release 'Plaid'

Beat pumping, heart stopping, playing the tracks you know, dishing out the beats youre gonna kill to know, PLove is THE plaid-wearing Justice disciple of the downtown Toronto scene. Lock up your daughters, and bring out your kicks; tonight, the student becomes the master.

+The ADHD Theatre
Upcoming release: The monster EP, 'Reduce, Reuse & Recyclops'

The boys who have time and time been given titles like 'The Next shit' and 'The Churchill and Eisenhower of Electro House' won't be dropping placid on friday...no sir, they'll only be dealing in the heavy stuff. Watch the dirtiest dance duo determine the downright desperation destined for the dance deck.

The boys are at it again for one FINAL blowout at Rancho Relaxo, before Anglicize moves to a TBA new location.

AND BY POPULAR REQUEST, we're making this night free before 11:00, and $5 afterwards

Brought to you by your pals
Ash, Patrick & Daniel

Just East of Broadway

Dates: July 2, 2009 to July 12, 2009
Location: The George Ignatieff Theatre (15 Devonshire Place, Toronto, Ontario)
From the makers of The Lord of the Rings: The Musical: The Musical! (Patrons pick, Best of Fringe 2007), comes this stunning, timely, very silly new production.

In order to kick-start his failing career, has-been actor Rex Maverick agrees to star in a production in the worlds hottest new market for musicals The Peoples Republic of China. But instead of bustling Beijing or Shanghai, Rex finds himself trapped in a tiny farming community directing a cast of enthusiastic amateurs, including a shy love-struck writer, a bumbling and censorious Mid-Level Official, a nefarious costume designer, and a strong-willed young woman contemptuous of the Hollywood star. While Rex is stuck in the town waiting for seasonal rains to pass, cultures clash, personalities collide, the workers control the means of production, and musical magic is born!

With 12 original tunes composed by members of indie pop band Hooded Fang and a cast that includes a West-End veteran, a Canadian Comedy Award-winner, and stars of past Fringe hits Giant Killer Shark: The Musical, Funny Business: The Musical, and LOTR: The Musical: The Musical!, this original show is set to take the city by storm at the 2009 Toronto Fringe Festival, starting July 2nd!
