TPS NFL Weekly Locks: Week 11

Last week was not a successful one, but it was not a failure either as we maintained our .500 record by going 2-2. The New Orleans Saints put up a disappointing effort against the St. Louis Rams, despite winning the game, and the Denver Broncos were doomed once Chris Simms was forced to come in for an injured Kyle Orton. Sorry folks, but predicting injuries is simply asking for too much. As for our other games, the poor offenses of the Chiefs and Raiders provided the low scoring output we were looking for, and the Carolina Panthers continued their strong run by holding off the Falcons and covering the spread in the process. With ten weeks now in the books, we stand at a respectable 20-20 on the year, but respectable is not enough in our opinion. We are looking for greatness, and with seven weeks remaining on the NFL's regular season schedule, there is still plenty of time to achieve that goal.

Here is how we see things shaping up in the following four week 11 games.

Game: Indianapolis Colts @ Baltimore Ravens

Pick: Indianapolis Colts -2

Reason: With the spread of this game being 2 points, we are seemingly being asked who we think will win, and our answer is the Indianapolis Colts. Manning has lead his team to a 9-0 record thus far this season mainly through the passing game, which ranks first in the NFL. The Ravens, on the other hand, have proven to be somewhat vulnerable defending the pass, and although they have typically been known for their stout defenses over the years, teams have found weaknesses and exposed them in 2009. Expect Manning to be on top of that, as he usually is, and the Colts should continue their winning ways in this tough battle of AFC contenders.

Game: Cincinnati Bengals @ Oakland Raiders

Pick: Cincinnati Bengals -9 1/2

Reason: The is no easy way to say it, but the Oakland Raiders just plain suck. They have had a difficult time keeping games against mediocre teams close, and now they will have to face the 7-2 Bengals who are coming off a big win in Pittsburgh last week. This may seem like a possible trap game, but don't expect that to happen. Marvin Lewis will have his troops ready as they will want to continue their winning ways in hopes of securing top spot in the AFC North. If Cincinnati does have a weakness, it is their pass defense, but thankfully the Raiders pose little threat in that department. As for the injury to Cedric Benson, even with him out expect Bernard Scott and the newly acquired Larry Johnson to run all over Oakland's poor run defense as the Bengals cruise to a large margin of victory.

Game: Washington Redskins @ Dallas Cowboys

Pick: Washington Redskins +11

Reason: The Redskins may be a terrible team, but their defense has been rather stellar thus far, and their offense did show some signs of life last week against the Denver Broncos. They will face what should be a much tougher test this week when they travel to Dallas to take on the division rival Cowboys, and although they may not come out with the win, we do expect them to keep it within 11 points. With Marion Barber struggling, Dallas has turned to their passing game to register most of their yards and points recently, but they will be facing a Redskins' secondary which ranks first in the league against the pass. Even if Dallas decides to stick with the running game, Washington has allowed only five touchdowns on the ground thus far this season. Romo and the boys will get the win here, but don't bet on them getting the cover. Instead, bet against it.

Game: Tennessee Titans @ Houston Texans

Pick: Tennessee Titans +4 1/2

Reason: It always seems to be the case that games between AFC South division rivals are always tight battles, and this Monday night we expect much of the same. The last time these two teams met, Chris Johnson was unstoppable on the ground, but Matt Schaub put on a show of his own through the air, passing for 357 yards and four touchdowns as the Texans won 34-31. However, that came at a time when the Titans pass defense seemed to be especially struggling. While they may not be one of the top units in the leauge, it seems as though Jeff Fisher has done enough over his bye week to improve the Titans secondary problems, and Vince Young is managing games just enough to allow Johnson to completely take over and put Tennessee in a position to win. Expect that to be the case on Monday night, as the Titans will keep it within a field goal, and maybe even win outright.

Marv Albert vs. 50 Cent Actually Almost Happened

This story definitely goes in the "last thing I would ever expect" category. Rappers feud with each other frequently, and even occasionally get in scuffles or full out wars. To have a rapper get into it with an old, white basketball announcer is extremely odd. As odd as the Devils shootout goal the other night? Maybe. But apparently it happened just the other night.

Marv Albert, a basketball announcer for many years, was in LA for TNT's broadcast of the Bulls-Lakers game Thursday night. On Wednesday, he was a guest on the Jimmy Kimmel show, and 50 Cent happened to be the musical guest. Albert arrived with a single person. As they arrived, the bumped into 50's crew, which was obviously far larger than Marv's. Here's how the incident unfolded:

As Albert arrived, with an entourage of one, TNT public relations specialist Jeff Pomeroy, there was a sudden scuffle when a multitude of 50 Cent protectors seemed unfamiliar with Albert. There was shouting ("It's Marv Albert," yelled a Kimmel show guard, a pronouncement that seemed to have no effect on the 50 Cent phalanx.) There were obscenities. A fist or two flying. A "Don't you put your hands on me" pronouncement.

And finally Albert made it to his waiting room, relatively unruffled but slightly puzzled. "Did you see that?" Albert said. "I thought they were kidding, but then I realized they weren't."

Here is the problem with the whole thing. Even if they didn't recognize Albert, how was he threatening to them in any way? A small white guy in a suit walking down a hallway is going to somehow cause trouble for who knows how many large men that comprised 50 Cent's entourage? It seems very odd. I'm sure it wasn't a serious brawl like the one over Niedermeyer's hockey stick, but some shoving is all it can take. In the end, all that matters is that Marv's toupee managed to stay on alright. Whew.

Hilarious Attempt at World’s Longest Basketball Shot

A couple months back, a video circulated around the internet of what was arguably the longest basketball shot ever recorded on film. It also brought into question how reliable these viral internet videos are and what kind of people spend so much time making them. While youtube does have its upside, like all the great fights it brings us, it also has its downside.

Well someone made a video that is mocking the kind of people looking for youtube internet fame. This video is a hilarious farce of what people are thinking when they make these clips, especially when the clips are clearly fake and poorly-thought out. While that long shot from a few weeks ago was relatively well-done, there are many videos out there that are so fake it is embarrassing.

The guys that made this video do a great job of mocking them. The premise is that two random guys decide to make a video of something they care little about, just because they want to get internet famous. The looks on their faces are priceless when they see the ACTUAL video that they are making a farce of. I'm not sure about the homoerotic ending, but all the missed shots and the two guys' attitudes throughout capture the image of the worthless 21st century kid trying to get famous with no skills or talent.

What a great time we live in, no?

Devils Travis Zajac Scores Crazy Shootout Goal

The shootout is what sets hockey and soccer apart from all other sports. It is the peak of sports drama, for the entire game to come down to one shot, man vs. man, with all other variables eliminated when the score is tied.

In this video we have a hockey shootout during the Predators-Devils game. While this may not be "Goal-of-the-Year" material, its still fun to watch. Travis Zajac skates right up to the net, fails on a quick little move, and the goalie goes to sleep. The problem is that Zajac didn't give up on it, and swung the puck around behind him and into the goal. The goalie thought he lost the puck and that was it, but the play was not called dead. This video is more about seeing a cool goal than blaming the referees for anything, and they surely did not make a mistake of epic proportions like the blown call that occurred at the Wings game the other night.

While the goal is a bit crazy and possibly questionable, the part that you can't ignore is the ridiculous, possibly Canadian, laughter from the announcer. It is a piercing, repetitive hoot that really cuts through the clip like a knife. Anyways, back to the goal.

Fans Fight Over Hockey Stick At Ducks Game (Video)

There is nothing quite like a free giveaway to bring out the best in fans, right? Or the worst in them apparently as evidenced from this Anaheim Ducks game. Hockey fans especially are known for their loyalty and aggressiveness, as opposed to baseball fans, who are just known for their weird displays of loyalty.

As Scott Niedermeyer was announced last night, he skated over to the fans and attempted to hand his stick to a little girl. Some doofus tried to grab it from her, and a fight ensued. It makes sense, a hockey game is physical and is the only sport that really allows fighting to occur without breaking it up quickly, so it is expected that the crowd would feed off the violent energy of the game.

But there was no actual game yet in this case. The funny part is when the stick is completely forgotten and the punches start flying. Niedermeyer is just kind of watching and it looks like he wants to get involved, or at least point out who the stick really should have gone to. Eventually he just kind of gives up and slowly skates away from the mess.

Only one question remains for us watching at home trying to determine who won the fight: Is it okay for hockey fans to hit a girl? Bsed on the little we saw, it looks like it flies in Anaheim at least.

The Stat Line of the Night – 11/19/09 – Ricky Williams

With Ronnie Brown out and a must-win game against the Panthers, the Dolphins needed someone to move the chains and get in the end zone. Ricky Williams was up to the task as the Dolphins beat the Panthers 24-17 and improved to 5-5 -- keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Williams took it hard to the Panthers' D. He first scored in the 2nd quarter on a 14-yard reception from Dolphin QB Chad Henne. Later in the quarter Williams even subbed for Brown in the Wildcat formation, and scored out of it with a 1-yard run for a touchdown.

Then in the 4th quarter, Williams helped put away the Panthers with a 46-yard romp for a touchdown. That put Miami up 24-14.

For the game, Williams rushed for 119 yards on 22 carries and added two catches for 19 yards. He also scored on rushing and receiving TDs in the same game for the first time in his career. For his performance, Ricky Williams gets The Stat Line of the Night for 11/19/09.

Steven Stamkos Scores The Goal Of The Year (Video)

"Goal of the year" is a superlative that gets thrown around an awful lot. In this instance, however, it is not hyperbole run amok. The Tampa Bay Lightning's Steven Stamkos' goal last night on the Anaheim Ducks was that damn good. The TSN hockey guys were practically drooling over it while they showed the highlight over and over again.

Ducks' goalie Jonas Hiller was no match for Stamkos, as he got embarrassed almost as bad as this goalie did by Sweedish star Linus Omark. Stamkos came screaming towards the goal, so fast that he started to lose control. On his way down gracefully doing the splits, Stamkos had enough balance to quickly knock the puck out of mid air and beat Hiller top shelf where momma keeps the peanut butter.

The play couldn't have come at a better time for Steven Stamkos, a second-year center who has 14 goals and 8 assists on the year. Executive Director of Team Canada Steve Yzerman was in the house, err, ice house scouting the game. Stamkos is considered to be on the bubble as far as making Team Canada for the 2010 Winter Olympics is concerned, so his highlight goal could not have come at a better time. Yzerman had to be impressed.

Top 10 All Time WWE Hottest Divas

Today TPS presents to you its top ten selections for the hottest divas ever in the WWE. Coming in at number 10 is “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s former wife Debra Marshall, who made her debut in the WWE as the manager of Jeff Jarret.

The 2007 WWE woman’s champion and former diva contest winner Candice Michelle comes in at number 9 on the list.

Best known for smoking cigars in the corner of Golddust at number 8 is Terri Runnels.

Our next selection goes back to what many consider the greatest time in Professional Wrestling history. Standing in the corner of her former husband, the “Macho Man” Randy Savage, through the majority of the 80’s and 90’s, at number 7 we select Miss Elizabeth.

The number 6 selection is a former Playboy playmate, and the current wife of UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnor; Sable.

At number 5 we select “Sunny”. One of the first true divas of the WWE, Sunny was a former manager of the “Legion of Doom”, and in 1996 was AOL most downloaded woman.

Our number 4 selection is Torrie Wilson. Torrie is currently married to former WCW star Billy Kidman, and should be considered one of the WWE’s top bombshells of all time.

Stacy Keibler comes in at number 3. Stacy and Torrie were two of the hottest commodities of the WCW, and this was a difficult decision, but Stacey’s legs gave her the edge in this one.

Our next diva began her WWE career in 2008 by winning a bikini contest on Smackdown. You can currently see her on Monday Night Raw, at number 2 lets say hi to Maryse Ouellet.

At number 1 on our list we showcase the one and only Trish Stratus. I think the picture speaks for itself.
