Off and racing

This year is certainly off and racing – I can’t believe it’s March already! It’s been a hectic start to the year, but I have managed to squeeze in a little bit of sewing – including this little boy’s shirt. Super cute!

There’s something elegant about the simplicity of this 1964 suit ensemble from Vogue. I’m not much for wearing suits, but I’d wear this one!

Suit and blouse: Shaped, cutaway jacket has single button closing below notched collar. Below elbow length sleeves. Slightly shaped sleeveless overblouse with scooped neckline, just covers waistline of A-line skirt.

A gorgeous Mad Men-style dress from 1963. I love every version, but I’d probably be most likely to make View B – with top-stitching over those diagonal front seams to draw attention to the beautiful cut of this frock.

One-piece dress: Sheath dress has optional pocket from diagonal front seams. Oval neckline with zipper back closing. Elbow length bell-shaped sleeves, short sleeves and sleeveless.

I love the seamlines that provide delicate shaping on this 1960s shift dress. The back-buttoned belt version would also look lovely! Very Jackie O!

One-piece dress and scarf: Slim dress with front detailing has optional back buttoned belt. Zipper back closing below oval neckline. Elbow length sleeves and sleeveless. Circular, bias scarf.

You’ve got to love a quick and easy skirt! Interestingly, I think I recently saw a Witchery denim skirt made in this style, which featured in the Vogue pattern book back in 1963!

Skirt: Wrapped skirt has left side button through or fly front closing. Optional welt pocket.

Another 1960s Weigel’s frock for the straight-up-and-down figure, with shaping courtesy of some very long front darts and some judiciously placed back darts. I do love the front fold details over the bust. Very fancy!

Another 1960s number from Australian patternmaking dynasty Weigel’s, this time built around the empire line. As my Mum would say, very flattering for skinnymalinks! This one would look quite cute in a spotty cotton fabric.

What a stunning 1960s frock! All those panels in the skirt would be worth sewing because it hangs beautifully. Now all I need is a ball to attend!
