This the home of Lok Sabha and also the meeting place of Rajya Sabha, is a huge circular building, which is 11 meter in diameter and has 144 pillars purest creamy sandstone surrounding it, each 8.3 meter high. The foundation stone of it was laid in 1921 by the Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught and was opened by Lord Irwin on 18^th Jaunary 1927. A gift from Britishers, it has three main separate chambers, which radiate form the central hall of the building. First is Legislative assembly. Second is State Council. Each chamber has its own padha gallery and committee room. Fountains, waterway and gardens separate chambers from one another. It is considered to be the best parliament house in the world. The constitution of India it its original hand written from is available in its library. Special permission in necessary for the visitors.

Qutub Minar, Qutub Minar Delhi

Qutubuddin Aibak laid the foundation of Qutab Minar, a tower of victory, in 1199 AD. Originally, it rose to a height of 72.5 m. It is without doubt one of the finest stone tower in India and one of the most important landmarks in Delhi. Iltutmish, the son-in-law and successor of Qutubuddin, completed its construction. Nearby, you can also see the ruins of the Tomb of Iltutmish. It was built in 1235 AD, during his own lifetime, and richly decorated interiors, using calligraphy. The tower tapers from a base of 2.75 m to 14.32 m at the top and it took 20 years to complete.

Built in red sandstone, the tower of sports inscriptions of verses from the Holy Quran and some intricate carvings. We can also see the ruins of the ramparts of the city called "Siri" here. It was established in 1303 AD by Ala-ud-Din, who dug a large reservoir in Hauz Khas, to supply water to his city. Although there is much of the city remains to be seen, has been described by contemporary historians as the "envy of Baghdad, the rival of Cairo and equal to Constantinople. In addition to these, you can also see the tomb of Adham Khan and Taj Zafar in the Qutub complex and the Tomb of Jamali-Kamali behind him.

Iron Pillar
Located in the courtyard of the Quwwatu'l-Islam, the famous iron pillar belongs to the fourth century. It is enclosed in the complex of Qutub Minar in Delhi. The Sanskrit inscription in Gupta and peculiar style of his "capital Amalaka 'confirms the date.

Qutub Minar Legends
There are a number of legends related to the Qutub Minar in Delhi. Some people believe the monument was built by Prithviraj Chauhan, so his daughter could see the holy river Yamuna from its summit, as part of their daily worship.

Swaminarayan Akshardham means the eternal abode of Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781-1830 CE) – a torchbearer of Indian culture and spirituality.

In just five years, a dusty, barren patch of land near the banks of the river Yamuna in New Delhi was transformed into Swaminarayan Akshardham, a grand 100-acre cultural complex. It showcases India’s glorious traditions of art architecture, wisdom and spirituality.

The grand cultural complex was inspired by His Divine Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj (Swamishri) to fulfil the wish of his guru, Yogiji Maharaj. It was completed in only five years – the foundation-stone laying ceremony took place on 8 November 2000 and the opening ceremony on 6 November 2005. Swaminarayan Akshardham is a glowing testimony to what volunteerism, talent and spiritual faith can accomplish. It took 300 million man-hours to carve 300,000 stones and create the entire complex!

Satish Gujral, an internationally renowned architect of India, opined, “It would have taken 50 years to build such a thing”. Swaminarayan Akshardham is an increadible feat of management – from acquiring the land in New Delhi to the logistics of construction: the stones were quarried in Bansipahadpur (400 km away), and carved in Pindvada (600 km), Sikandra (250 km), and 24 other rural workshops in Rajasthan. After being transported to Delhi, each stone was assembled like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Millions of hours of dedication and hard work by 11,000 sadhus, volunteers and artisans had gone into the concept and making of the monument, exhibitions and the large format film.

The focal point of the entire complex is the grand Akshardham Monument, built of pink sandstone and white marble. It is 141 ft high, 316 ft wide and 356 ft long, and has 234 intricately carved pillars, 9 magnificent domes, 20 pinnacles and over 20,000 superbly sculpted figures. At the centre of the monument is the serene 11-ft high golden murti of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. The monument is surrounded by a sacred water body called the Narayan Sarovar. The 2.2 km long, double-storeyed parikrama garlands the monmment. The two exhibitons halls, large format film theatre, spectacular musical fountain, cultural gardens, ornate gates, and foodcourt provide a riveting and enlightening experience of India’s increadible heritage.

The message of India’s heritage is wonderfully presented in its exhibitions halls. The hall of values or Sahajanand Dardhan brilliantly shows the values of ahimsa, courage, endeavour, honesty, harmony and faith from the life Bhagwan Swaminarayan. The messages are presented through films, light and sound shows with robotic figures, and experiential effects. The second hall, the Boat Ride Exhibition or Sanskruti Vihar, is a spectacular 14-minute boat ride through 10,000 years of Indian culture which flourished on the banks of the river Sarasvati. Based on authentic research, 800 statues bring India’s glorious heritage to life. See the world’s oldest vedic village and bazaar. Sail through Takshashila, the world’s first university. And learn about discoveries and inventions of India’s ancient rishi-scientists, and much more. The third hall, Neelkanth Darshan, features a large format film on an 85 ft + 65 ft giant screen. The 40-minute film portrays an exciting and inspiring true story of an 11-year-old child-yogi’s journey across India. The period film was shot in 108 locations of India, taking the viewers on an exciting journey through the majestic Himalayas, sacred places, festivals, traditions and values of India.

The cultural garden has 22-acres lush lawns and trees and flowering plants nurtured in the on-site nursery. More than 900,000 saplings and shrubs of 250 varieties were planted to create and environmental delight.

Swaminarayan Akshardham was inaugurated on 6 November 2005. In the inaugural assembly HDH Pramukh Swami Maharaj said, “Akshardham is a place of faith and peace that will inspire, enrich and provide strength to man-kind in its endeavour towards eternal happiness.”

A sight of traditional architecture, culture and nature inspires inner tranquility and aesthetic joy. The smaller traditional shrines of bhakti are harbingers to the large ornate Bhakti Dwar (Gate of Devotion).

Mayur Dwar

The two Mayur Dwars (Peacock Gates) pay tribute to the joy and beauty peacocks contributes to nature. A total of 869 stone peacocks in different shapes and sizes adorn each of the beautiful gates.

MIRACLE IN STONE

Ceilings and Domes

A saga of more than 300,000 stones, each shaped and carved in brilliant and intricate array of sculptures and designs. In the monument, domes spanning 32 ft, pillars rising to 100 ft and the mandovar wall totaling 600 ft in length were all hand carved by craftsmen endowed with a legacy thousands of years old.

STONE HERITAGE

Mandovar

The ornate external wall of the Swaminarayan Akshardham monument is known as the mandovar. It is the largest, most intricately carved mandovar built in India in the past 800 years, and is 610 ft long and 25 f high. It features 200 sculptured stone figures of India’s great rishits, sadhus, devotees, acharyas and avatars.

The mandovar includes different levels: gajstar, sinhstar, vyalstar, kumbhstar, kalashstar, gavakshstar, jangha and chhajja with a total of 4,287 carved stones. The kumbhstar has 48 ornately sculpted murtis of shri Ganeshji in different mudras.

PURE DEVOTION

Deities of Sanatan Dharma

In spite of India’s mosaic of cultures, languages, boundaries and human features, its spirituality pervades from north to south and east to west. Together with Bhagwan Swaminarayan, the other deities of Sanatan Dharma, namely, shri Ram-Sita, shri Radha-Krishan, shri Lakshmi-Narayan and Shri Shiv-Parvati, are also enshrined at Swaminarayan Akshardham. Their divine presence inspires faith, devotion and values.

Bhagwan Swaminarayan

The life and work of Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781-1830 CE) are superbly illustrated through 12 ft high colourful paintings inside the monument. They depict his childhood encounters with friends, austerities as a child-yogi, social and spiritual services in Gujrat, and his preaching of the Vedic wisdom distilled into the Vachanamrut.

HOLY WATERS

Narayan Sarover

Narayan Sarovar surrounds the Akshardham Monument. It is a holy water body with ghats and lutus flowers. The sacred waters of 151 rivers and lakes of India flow from 108 gaumukhs into the Narayan Sarovar, creating and ambience of a place of pilgrimage.

Abhishek Murti

Neelkanth Varni, the child-yogi later known as Bhagwan Swaminarayan, traveled 12,000 km in seven years to many pilgrim places of India.

Visitors perform abhishek of the murti of Neelkanth Varni with the holy waters of river Ganga in the Abhishek Mandapam, and pray for spiritual progress, peace and fulfillment of wishes.

Neelkanth Yatra

Neelkanth Yatra is a superb, award-winning large format period film on the amazing 12,000 km journey throughout India of Neelkanth Varni, an 11-year-old child-yogi. For seven years Neelkanth, later known as Bhagwan Swaminarayan, arduously traveled from the Himalayas in the north to the bristing shores of kanyakumari in the south.

The film was shot in 108 locations in India and features a cast of 45,000 people. Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum

Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum was the residence of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. It's where his bodyguard was killed on October 31, 1984. President House in New Delhi

Rashtrapati Bhawan was formerly known as "Viceroy's House" and was occupied by the Governor General of India, until independence. Also known as the President's House, the building has a prominent position in New Delhi. Designed by British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, this classical building uses colors and details specific to Indian architecture. It was completed in 1929 and was officially opened in 1931. It was in 1950 that the president began to live in this ceremonial building and "Viceroy's House" was renamed "Rashtrapati Bhavan." It has 340 rooms decorated with an area of 200,000 square meters.

It presents a blend of Mughal and European architectural styles. While Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official residence of President of India, Sansad Bhawan or the Parliament House is the center of political power in India's Parliament House is one of the most magnificent buildings in New Delhi. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker, which took six years to build. It was inaugurated on January 18, 1927 by the then Governor General of India, Lord Irwin. The massive circular edifice has a circumference of about one third of a mile and extends over six acres.

The beautiful works that make up the architecture of Parliament House so special include the design of sources, both inside and outside the building, statues, murals and 'Jali' marble (mesh) that adorn the windows. Houses Lok Sabha (House of People), Rajya Sabha (Council of the United States) and the old Library Hall (formerly the Princes Chamber). Along with this, not planned garden courts, accommodation for ministers and presidents, parliamentary committees, party offices, important offices of Lok Sabha and Rajya here. Lodi Garden in Delhi

Founded in the 15th-16th century the Sayyids and Lodis, the vast grounds of Lodi Garden is famous among runners in the city of Delhi in India. Carefully maintained gardens and medieval monuments give a charm to these gardens. In 1968, JA Stein and Garrett Eckbo new landscape of the gardens embellished given as present. The tombs of several located in the garden belongs to the era of Lodi and Sayyid Muhammad, and include the tomb and the tomb of Sikander Shah Lodi. Muhammad Shah (1434 - 44) was the third ruler of Sayyid dynasty.

His tomb was built in a typical pattern of an octagonal central chamber with an octagonal terraces, three arched openings on each side and sloping buttress. Inspired by Mubarak Shah's tomb, this tomb has a more compact plan, high dome, chhatris game and better proportions. Apart from this, there are other tombs, namely, Bara Gumbad and Gumbad Sheesh. Bara Gumbad or Great Dome is a square tomb with a dome. Its facades appear to be two floors.

It has corner towers, arches, stucco and paint to decorate the interiors. It is believed that the tomb belongs to a senior officer who served Sikandar Lodi. Besides the tomb is the Bara Gumbad mosque, built with stone masonry. Its rectangular prayer hall has five arched openings and is a good example of early Mughal mosques. The minarets tuning, built in the style Tughluq, colorful tiles and ornaments Koranic inscriptions this mosque. Built in 1494, this mosque was built during the reign of Sikandar Lodi.

Shish Gumbad tomb was built in the usual square pattern, with a 'double-storey' appearance, and looks much like Bara Gumbad. Its ceiling has incised plasterwork with floral motifs and Koranic inscriptions. You can still see traces of the blue tiles that once adorned it and gave it the name of "glass dome. There are several graves inside. Sikandar Lodi Tomb is built on the pattern of the octagonal tomb, like the tomb of Muhammad Shah. The chhatris your roof is more to do.

Another interesting construction is the 'Athpula' Bridge. It was built by Nawab Bahadur in the 16th century during the reign of Akbar. This is the bridge called Athpula (eight bridge), and based on eight piers, forming seven arches. Besides these tombs, you can also visit the National Bonsai Park developed here, which has a delightful collection of miniature versions of various trees and plants. They see the sunset under soft light. Originally known as the Lady Willingdon Park, was renamed Lodi Garden after Indian independence in 1947.

Delhi has a strong historical background, due to the fact that it was governed by some of the most powerful emperors in Indian history. The history of the city dates back to the time of Mahabharata when it was known as Indraprastha, the city of the Pandavas.
