How Cynthia Nixon's gay "choice" statement might play in court: "Nixon, though, is framing gay rights in a new way. It's strangely reminiscent of the 'gay cures' some religious groups have promoted. They say it doesn't matter whether homosexuality is inborn. It's still wrong, in their eyes, and so people have to "learn" to change their behavior, even if they can never change their sexual preference. A new video from NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies maps Earth's temperatures over the past 130 years:

The global average surface temperature in 2011 was the ninth warmest since 1880.The finding sustains a trend that has seen the 21st century experience nine of the 10 warmest years in the modern meteorological record. NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York released an analysis of how temperatures around the globe in 2011 compared to the average global temperature from the mid-20th century. The comparison shows how Earth continues to experience higher temperatures than several decades ago. The average temperature around the globe in 2011 was 0.92 degrees F (0.51 C) higher than the mid-20th century baseline.

In this animation of temperature data from 1880-2011, reds indicate temperatures higher than the average during a baseline period of 1951-1980, while blues indicate lower temperatures than the baseline average.

2011 is the ninth warmest year on record.

In several nations that allow gay marriage, including Portugal, Spain, Norway and South Africa, a person must produce a Certificate of No Impediment, which proves they are at least 18, unmarried and that there is no other barrier to them taking part in a marriage ceremony.

The Attorney-General, Nicola Roxon, will announce today that from February 1 same-sex couples will be able to apply for the certificates.

''This important change will allow same-sex couples to take part in overseas marriage ceremonies, and be considered married according to the laws of that country,'' Ms Roxon said...

...Same-sex marriages conducted overseas are not recognised in Australia, but may be evidence of a de facto relationship for the purposes of federal and state laws.

Australia's Labor Party added marriage equality to its platform last month.

The BZ daily reported on Wednesday that the deceased, Carsten Srock, was found with his limbs expertly carved off with either an axe or large knife. The body pieces were then wrapped fastidiously in plastic bags and cling-wrap, and left to sit in the two-room flat for around three weeks. His head was found, partially cooked, by the police. Prosecutors on the case told the BZ they believe the victim was “murdered for sexual pleasure.”

Owner of the Mariendorf apartment is a 43-year-old man identified as Michael S., who was rescued by paramedics after trying to take his own life. The unemployed Berliner attempted to open a main vein, before calling the emergency services minutes after.

It was only upon the arrival of the paramedics that the gruesome truth began to come to light.

When they completed their course, they were given an "Ally" certificate, which they brought to their classroom and put on display in order to show their support for LGBT students and families and make them more comfortable.

But Christian parents aren't happy about them, QMI Agency reports:

Participants were given the option to display the card, which includes the word “Ally” on a rainbow, along with the words, “As an Ally, I support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, Two-Spirit, intersex, queer, and questioning individuals, families and communities. As an Ally, I will work towards a more aware, affirming, safe and open work environment in both policy and practice.”

Since the cards were posted, the school has had a steady stream of parents asking they be removed. Many only heard about the card this week.

Said one parent: “We have to sign hundreds of petitions to allow religious exercises in school. We should treat this situation in the same way, as it seems to be just as controversial.”

The Government Operations, Tribal Relations & Elections Committee approved the measure with a 4-3 vote Thursday. The bill is expected to head to a floor vote next, though a date has not yet been determined. Bills have been introduced in the House and Senate and both had public hearings on Monday. There are already enough votes to pass the measure both the House and the Senate.

So what does this mean?

Well, it means we're one step closer to man-horse marriage, according to the spokesman for the largest anti-gay group opposing the bill, Pastor Ken Hutcherson.

"If this law is passed, what is going to happen? Now ask your guests in the studio. Do they believe that if they change the definition of marriage being between one man and one woman, what is going to stop two men one woman, two women one man, one man against a horse, one many with a boy, one man with anything?"

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich holds a 9-point lead over his GOP rival Mitt Romney among Republican voters nationwide, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll. The new survey comes five days ahead of the Florida Republican primary, where polls suggest Romney has the edge. Victory in Florida could give either Romney or Gingrich the momentum they need to pull ahead as the frontrunner.

On a conference call with right-wing religious leaders in Florida including Mat Staver, Jim Garlow, George Barna, and Jim Wildmon (which you can listen to here), Newt Gingrich said same-sex marriage was a hallmark of the "rise of paganism" and a "fundamental violation of our civilization".
