Maximise Profits Using Vehicle Tracking
During this time of economic uncertainty many companies are looking inwards at their operation in order to maximise their profits, as generating new business is proving difficult for many industry sectors. Companies that operate a fleet of vehicles should consider vehicle tracking for its many cost saving benefits.
Many companies can often believe that they are unable to purchase a tracking system due to not have the available funds. Tracking suppliers offer a range of funding/payment options that suit different business requirements. These payment options include leasing, renting, pay as you go and outright purchase. The cost of tracking has reduced significantly in recent years which has helped companies of all sizes to benefit from the cost saving benefits of tracking.
Vehicle tracking is a product where many companies plan to achieve a return on their investment. Funding options that allow customers to pay on a monthly basis generally provide a quicker return on investment. This is because the monthly cost of the tracking system is less than the saving achieved through its introduction.
Tracking can reduce a company’s operational costs significantly. The biggest saving achieved by many customers is normally through reducing their fuel bills. In addition, using a tracking system to identify opportunities to increase driver productivity will also help many companies to increase their profits.

A leading concrete supplier in Abu Dhabi has recently installed Enigmas Skyline GPS tracking and security system to assist them in managing their concrete mixers. The system brings automated fleet management to the concrete supplier ‘Ocean Readymix & Precast.

Enigmas Skyline GPS Tracking brings the company the visibility they on their fleet and can monitor their movements to customers and ensure that they are taking the designated route, that they are delivering the goods on time and they are not spending long periods idling which adds to fuel consumption and in return additional costs to the business.

The skyline tracking system is able to tell the fleet managed exactly where the vehicles are unloading which is a bespoke need to this business.

By having vehicle tracking installed Ocean Readymix & Precast is able to easily move their vehicles between their batching plants, optimise their production and now be able to provide their customers with exact delivery information.

The company are also using Enigma’s system to monitor their driver’s performance and ensure they are not speeding and are adhering to their code of practice.

Enigma’s system brings huge savings and ensures the company runs efficiently and certainly improves customer service.

The latest version of Enigma’s Skyline system allows it to be internet bases and can be used in the Middle East, Europe, Latin America and Africa.

With many Fuel Cards on the market, it is good to know the benefits a fuel card can bring to a business so an informed decision can be made as to whether a fuel card is beneficial to your business or not.

To get the very best out of a fuel card it is important that you choose the right one, which will be suited to your size and type of fleet. For instance if you were to own a haulage company with say ten lorries and it operates in one dedicated area then you would need a different fuel card to if you were to have a plumbing company that operates a variety of vans and cars and covers nationwide.

There are key factors also when choosing the right card for you such as your fleet size, the area you cover and additional services you may be requiring such as dedicated account managers and management reports.

Fuel cards can cut out the need for time consuming expenses and deliver a simple VAT approved invoice outlining all the fuel transactions made. They can also include purchase restrictions and either driver or vehicle specific cards which ensure the use of the card cannot be abused or if lost or stolen cannot be used.

There are both fixed and pump price cards on the market, the fixed ones being directed towards hauliers. This means a nationwide price will be set weekly based on the bulk market and this price is generally lower than the pump price. However with pump price cards the savings are usually recognisable through service benefits such as wider network coverage.

With the EU Sixth VAT directive soon to be implemented, all EU member states are now required to levy VAT in the same way. This will stop VAT being claimed on invoices that are not registered in the company name. This means there is a potential that every litre of fuel will cost an additional 17.5% if employees are still claiming on till receipts. This is reason in itself that all companies should look at their fuel management procedures. You can overcome this by either implementing a fuel card or a company credit card, however using a credit card comes with its concerns as a transaction where fuel and say a drink is paid for, will only show as one transaction and is therefore open to abuse.

Fuel cards now come with an online account management system that allows you at any time to download fleet reports, order new cards and request invoices. For some cards you can see details of transactions for each driver, each week.
By answering a few questions Trackcompare can help you find the right card for you.

From Thursday Asda will be selling petrol at 134.7p per litre and diesel at 139.7 per litre.

These prices show Asda’s continued commitment to being the lowest price fuel amongst any of large retail chains including both petrol station chains and supermarket chains.

The difference with Asda from most petrol station chains is that they maintain the same price throughout the country, as most chains vary their price from petrol station to petrol station depending on the level of competition in the area.

Also there are a number of fuel cards accepted at Supermarket petrol stations including Asda. If you would like to compare a range of supermarket fuel cards click here. Here at TrackCompare we compare each card like for like by a range of factors including the price per litre, the number of petrol stations they are accepted at and the annual fee if there is one.

Luckily though, the people at Tracker have now developed a solution for this, which comes in the form of a battery powered tracker system, which they’ve imaginatively called the “Battery Powered TRACKER Retrieve”.

Now, you might be sceptical about a battery powered tracker, but the managing director of the company, Stephen Doran, explains that there are many safeguards in place to ensure that they are completely reliable. The first of these is that the battery within the tracking system lasts for five years and that it is not reliant on the actual car’s battery, with the latter point being very important as it means that there’s no need to modify the car. It also means that classic cars’ batteries, which often aren’t incredibly powerful, are not drained by it.

Flexibility is also an important part of the Battery Powered TRACKER Retrieve, as different classic car owners are going to want to store their tracker in different places within the car. Not only does this mean that it works with all classic cars, but it also means that there is never any chance of the tracker being visible and therefore spoiling the overall aesthetic of the car. Finally, this flexibility means that a potential thief will never know where to look to find the tracker, meaning that they can never be 100% sure that there isn’t one fitted and therefore meaning that they could be put off stealing the car in the first place.

So, you’ve seen the features of the Battery Powered TRACKER Retrieve, but why should you consider purchasing one for your classic car? Well, the answer is simple: classic cars can be big business for thieves, who will steal them from storage during the winter months and then break them down for parts to be sold on for huge amounts of money. With a TRACKER though, 90% of stolen cars are recovered and reunited with their owners. This is true even if the car is hidden away, which is the main advantage that this type of tracking system has over a GPS based one.

So, if you own a classic car that is worth a considerable amount of money, then it is definitely worthwhile thinking about the Battery Powered TRACKER Retrieve. You can get a quotation for the price of this incredibly useful service by visiting www.trackcompare.co.uk, where you can also find a number of other useful tools and tips for securing your vehicle.

Am I limited to a certain mileage when I lease a vehicle?

Yes. Generally, lease agreements limit the mileage from 6,000 to 150,000 total miles during the contracted period. If you exceed the agreed mileage limit, you will most likely be charged an ‘Excess Mileage’ fee at the end of the lease at an agreed rate per mile. It is therefore important to carefully consider your mileage requirements for the lease term to prevent additional costs being incurred at the end of the contract period.

Is car insurance included in the leasing price?

No. unfortunately insurance is not included and the vehicle must be comprehensively insured by the leasee.

What level of wear and tear is expected from a leased vehicle?

At the end of the lease, most companies expect the vehicles to be returned with no more than what is considered to be normal wear and tear. Once you lease a vehicle, you are responsible for its upkeep, insurance and maintenance. If the wear and tear is more than what is considered normal, then may be required to pay for the damages or arrange for the repair of the damages before returning the vehicle.

What happens if the leased vehicle has a fault or requires a repair?

Generally, all new vehicles come with a minimum manufacturer’s warranty of three years. If repairs arise during the lease it is the leasee that has the responsibility to resolve the issue, unless a full maintenance package is arranged. If the issue is a fault that is covered in the manufacturer’s warranty, then you should take your car to an authorised garage for repair to ensure that you do not incur the costs.

Can I customise, repaint or modify a leased vehicle?

No. It is important to note that a vehicle that you have leased does not belong to you as it is legally owned by the lease company. Making alterations or installing custom equipment may result in you being charged for the cost of repairs to undo the alterations. In certain circumstances the lease company may authorise the repaint of a vehicle (i.e. major scratches etc) but approval must always be sought from the leasing company before any work is carried out.

Do I have ownership of a vehicle I have leased?

In most cases, you do not have legal ownership of a leased vehicle; certain lease agreements may have the option for you to buy it at the end of the contract period. When a lease agreement is approaching its end the leasee will be able to obtain a price to purchase the vehicle, this price is often more competitive than the trade rate.

Is it a must to pay a down payment on a lease?

No. You are not obliged to pay a down payment when leasing a vehicle. However, making a down payment reduces your monthly payments. Initial down payments also reduce the cost of early termination in case you decide to terminate the lease at an earlier date.

If you run a fleet of vehicles then you are probably always open to suggestions on how to cut your running costs. Here are 7 useful tips:

Make sure you review your fleet insurance when it comes up for renewal. Sounds obvious, but many companies do not do this. And if you insure your vehicles individually, then look to consolidate all insurance policies into one fleet insurance policy. Both reviewing your insurance every year and making sure your vehicle insurance is all under one policy are both ways you can quickly lower your premiums.

Fleet tracking is a great way of lowering costs, but many smaller companies cannot see how it will benefit them. Fleet tracking can help to cut down on wasted journeys, put a stop to private usage, stop people taking unauthorised breaks, improve efficient driving practices and decrease the wear and tear on your vehicles. Fleet tracking can cost as little as £12 per month per vehicle.

If you do not already have a fuel card then this can be a useful way to save money and if you already have a fuel card then it might be worth reviewing it to make sure you have the best deal. New offers arrive on the market all the time. For those that do not already have fuel cards, then take a look at our fuel card comparison table. Fuel cards can save you money in two ways. One, they can cut down the time spent on administration and VAT returns considerably. Two, they can lower the price per litre.

Make sure your vehicles are serviced on a frequent basis. Vehicles that are badly maintained are less economical to run and can use up considerably more fuel than is necessary. They are also more likely to break down when it is most inconvenient to your business.

If you run HGVs or fleets of vehicles that require you to have CPC training in place by 2014, then you would be wise to make sure your drivers are fully CPC trained sooner rather than later. The sooner you get your drivers CPC trained the cheaper it will be as prices will rise as the 2014 deadline gets nearer. This is not to mention the fact that many courses are quickly getting booked up and this situation will only get worse as time goes on.

Fixed price repairs are another way to save money. If you lease your vehicles then you will need to make sure they are in good condition before you return them at the end of the lease. If there are problems with the vehicles when you return them to the leasing company then they will charge you a premium price to make those repairs. Fixed price repairs are a great solution to this problem. Firstly they will come out to inspect your vehicle and then they will quote you a fixed price for making those repairs. This price will be much lower than the leasing company would charge you for doing the repairs and the fixed price repair company will guarantee that no more repairs will need to be done once you return the vehicle. If there are any additional repairs that need doing then they will cover the cost associated with this.

If you have fleet tracking with driver behaviour reporting then you can see who is driving uneconomically and then give them additional training or guidance to help them improve their driving habits. This can help to save a lot of money on fuel and many vastly underestimate how much fuel is wasted by company vehicles that are driven to fast, with harsh acceleration and harsh breaking.

If you enjoy driving and being independent, then this could be the career choice for you. It is hard, tiring work and is not for everybody, but the benefits of this rewarding career option are attracting many people who see an opportunity to work for themselves or for a logistics or haulage company. Road transport is here to stay and there is always a need for good, highly skilled HGV drivers.

There is a lot of training required before you can hit the road on your own and it is important to choose the right driving training centre for you.

Whilst you are considering your options, talk to some HGV drivers and find out first-hand what they enjoy about their jobs and life on the road. These days in economically challenging times, it is more important than ever to find a secure occupation when employment is so uncertain.

Why Become an HGV Driver? – Ten Good Reasons…

Be in control of your own working day – If you are not the nine to five type, then the job of an HGV driver is the answer where you are out in the world and on the move.

Choosing your own hours – Road transport and haulage is a twenty-four seven industry. Being an HGV driver allows you to choose your shift patterns to allow for family or hobby time. Night, weekend or day shifts, the choice is up to you.

Good earning potential – The average salary is around £23,500 for an HGV driver. Clearly, this varies and some occupations pay more than others do. Petrol tanker drivers for example earn in excess of £40,000

A good career path – Some HGV drivers never leave the road because they love their work. Others follow a different path to become Transport Managers or Logistics Directors. The HGV experience is firm grounding for these careers and a natural progression to acquiring the Operator CPC qualification.

Professional recognition goes hand in hand with the HGV qualification – Many skills are incorporated into the training process including technology, environmental issues, and customer focus. It is no longer just about the driving.

Becoming your own boss is a great attraction and it is a viable route to go down operating your own truck and finding your own contracts. Many single HGV operators end up with a fleet of trucks after a few years of hard work.

Choose the type of work that suits you. An HGV licence enables you to register with agencies to do ad hoc jobs as and when they arise. This can be full time, part time or one off jobs.

If you have a passion for modern automotive technology, driving a modern HGV will be a complete joy and privilege. These machines cost in excess of £100K and make driving for a living comfortable and enjoyable.

Good HGV Drivers are rarely without work. Once you establish a good reputation as a driver who can stick to schedules, drive politely, and fulfil customer expectations, there will be work offers based on your reputation.

Travel the world with your HGV licence. The UK HGV licence is internationally recognised and is transferable to other countries if you want to move abroad. You can also drive continental routes and see a lot of the world.

There is a lot of opportunity in HGV driving and a huge choice of jobs available road haulage, livestock transport and tanker driving to name a few. If you are keen to pursue the HGV option, you will find your new career that is rewarding in many ways.
