New Wave

Aunque ya alguna vez titulamos un programa como New Wave (2000.04.24) lo explicamos y realmente estábamos hablando de la ola de bandas que venían del Reino Unido... como una nueva "invasión británica" (término que aunque gringo, muchas veces aplica a todo el mundo. La industria musical británica piensa así...). Ese programa está clasificado como uno de la serie Anglos y no en Géneros, por lo mismo.

Ahora bien, en esta ocasión exploraremos el género New Wave (que duró aproximadamente de 1978 a 1984): en los 80´s pasó algo así como lo que sucedió en los 90´s con el alternativo y seguimos insistiendo que tratar de clasificar la música es un callejón sin salida. Después de la explosión punk (que junto con el odioso -al menos para nosotros- género dísco, cambió lo que venía sucediendo con la música en aquél entonces), muchas bandas que no se decidían por algún género o bien que experimentaban con los beats, instrumentos y herramientas de la época, generaron una ola de "cosas nuevas" que en aquél entonces eran inclasificables. Se les comenzó a llamar New Wave (y se le llamó durante algún par de años a todo lo que salía, tal como pasa con el alternativo). Después, sin embargo, el término fué quedándose más para "clasificar" a aquella música más bien de corte pop que punk (aunque con algo de la escencia "rebelde" del último) y separándola de lo que en ese momento se conoció como post-punk. Había, sin embargo, bandas de todo tipo: ya establecidas que cambiaron su ritmo y estilo, nuevas (varias decenas, fueron bandas de un solo hit), y otras que con ese nuevo estilo se alcanzaron a hacer un nombre, algunas de ellas todavía subsisten en la actualidad.

Entre ellos se encontraron en algún momento, bandas como ABC, A Flock Of Seagulls, hasta the B-52's, Berlin, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, The Go-Betweens, The Human League, INXS, Talkign Heads, Men Without Hats, Simple Minds, XTC, Tears For Fears, 'Til Tuesdayy muchas más...

Hoy dedicamos tiempo aire a recordar lo que sucedió y a tratar el New Wave, como históricamente lo trataríamos en ese momento. De hecho, nosotros crecimos con la radio invadida por esta música...
