Toronto-based new-wave rock band THE FRAMEWORK’s highly anticipated sophomore album ‘Before Tonight’ will be released August 4th.

THE FRAMEWORK formed in late 2006. At barely 3 months old, the band garnered national attention as a result of winning runner-up in the Toronto Mix 99.9’s 2007 RadioStar Songwriting Contest, for the song, “She Thinks I’m Famous”. The combination of buzz from the contest and the band’s catchy synth-rock epics instantly set The Framework up with an extensive online international fan base and sparked the interest of media outlets such as Metro and InsideE Magazine who describes the band’s new record ‘Before Tonight’ as “A confidently cool synth-rock assault that strikes a nonchalant medium between happy pop and stadium rock”. International attention has ensued with the band scoring invites to perform at the coveted Midpoint Music Festival in Cincinnati, packed shows in New York City at the Canal Room and the North by North East music Festival in Toronto (being named one of 5 top acts at NXNE 2007).

The Framework - Upcoming Dates ::
June 13th School of Rock - Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto, ON
June 19th The Rivoli - Toronto, ON
June 25th London Music Club - London, ON

Precious Fathers are a four piece, 50% of them are actual fathers and they practice in a barn in unincoporated territory outside of Vancouver, BC.

Their lives consist of children, farming, painting and car stereo installations. And it shows. Friends before fathers, they have continually managed to explore instrumental rock with a sense of smart, intelligent pleasure that carries you along with it and reminds you of different times in your life; a road trip down the rolling, dead-straight highways of Montana, or waiting for a ferry with a snow cone in your hand and a warm burger in your belly.

Now, with their second release on White Whale Records, the Precious Fathers continue to push their music to new places. Tim Loewen and Jaret Penner’s dueling guitars play off each other to blend and collide in a classic back yard rock entanglement while bassist Paul Goertzen matches notes to fill the music with grooves and steady rhythm. Drummer Josh Lindstrom provides the rushing beat behind it all. Both fast and smooth, his rich patterns make the songs move and help augment the changes that the guitars have led each tune into.

(Fun Indie Rock Factoid: Tim Loewen is the very same Tim Loewen that plays bass for Destroyer.)

Where their first, self-titled record played with wide open spaces and delicate, quiet bridges, their latest record boasts some louder more forceful directions. A maturing of moods, songs like “Swells” and “Sylvan Court” play out to provide rich crescendos of sound and thick, dense changes as each song brings about a new time, a new idea, a new place, and sometimes even a precious new experience.

Precious Fathers :: LIVE
June 25 Vancouver, BC @ Biltmore Cabaret*
June 26 Kelowna, BC @ The Habitat*

Komodo Dubs is proud to present one of the legends of the dubstep scene: 2562. From the Netherlands, 2562 does a great job of bringing together dubstep and techno. With a sound described as profound, emotional and filled with intense bass, 2562 is one of Europe’s finest. Check him out on January 30th, 2009 with DJ Hosta at SAT (1195 St. Laurent).

They may have cribbed their name from a 1891 Thomas Hardy novel, and Chart Attack might have called them “rock music for smart people,” but there’s nothing egghead-y about The D’Urbervilles, a couple of pals that started a band for drink tickets and rock shows then wound up winning over critics everywhere from New Brunswick to New York. Following a self-financed EP and tours with Canadian heavyweights like Malajube and You Say Party! We Say Die!, the band bowed with their debut full-length, We Are The Hunters, a post-punky slab of anthemic guitar revelry on the Out Of This Spark label in 2008.

Kathleen Edwards played for the troops in Afghanistan recently. “Troops on the base enjoyed a festive celebration and in addition to receiving treats from the man in the red suit, they were entertained by Canadian comedian Mike Macdonald and Ottawa singer Kathleen Edwards.” Whoa. That girl must have balls the size of China to go down there. I guess she was well protected though. Much respect to her. Don’t forget the following shows and venues:

We’re back from an extended holiday vacation. I hope your holidays were as good as mine. I was in upstate New York with family. Lots of booze, food and good times. Thanks for reading and stay tuned because we have a myriad of great bands and events to tell you about. Oh and if you’re wondering, the above pic is from LNP and it’s just how I wish my holidays went.

You might remember Marco DiFelice as the leadsinger of canuck indie juggernauts superGARAGE. But with the release of Sun That Somewhat Sets, DiFelice has dropped the growling guitars and pop sweetness of his old gig in favor of contemplative folk music. Real gorgeous stuff that gets by on subtlety, texture and pure emotion. Meet Marco Solo (get it?), a streamlined, grown-up DiFelice, crafting full-bodied suites of sound from his guitar and anything else lying around. The video for lead single “Your Ghost” reflects Marco’s introspective aesthetic with dark, pencil drawn animation. It kind of creeps us out. But, you know, in a good way.
