CHICAGO—On his debut EP for Potty Mouth Music, DJ/producer TJR from New York works his signature acid house sound into something fresh, funky and infectious. The Eat, Sleep, Breath It EP bridges TJR’s knack for old-school sampling with the forward-thinking sounds of house and electro. The result is a three track EP that includes the vocal-heavy “Good Evening Chicago,” including a remix by Sydney, Australia’s Klaus Hill; and “I Don’t Know Where,” a disco influenced cut heavily reworked with a fidget twist.

In producing “Good Night Chicago” as part of PMM 025, TJR brings the energy of a live show to the studio, as he pays homage to one of the scene’s most influential cities. Growing up in suburban Connecticut, TJR’s early years consisted of hockey, golf and suburban debauchery. Once an aspiring golf pro, TJR traded in his clubs for a set of turntables after attending his first rave in mid-’90s. He soon translated his love for mixing into producing it. Taking note from artists such as Terry Mullan, Armando, Mike Ink, Paul Birken and Ian Pooley, he landed on the Catalyst label before once again shifting his sound to the fidget/electro house scene. Original tracks on Wearhouse Music—along with remixes for labels such as InStereo Recordings, Eden Records and Promo—have positioned TJR amongst some of the scenes finest.

The producer/DJ says he was trying to make his latest release a fun addition to the PMM label. “Life shouldn’t be taken so seriously and I try to reflect in my music.”

This week we have DJ MEN IN MASKS, which is Jeff Leach, a talented dj, club promoter and television presenter. Under the moniker of The White Knight / The Black Cobra, Jeff has perfected an incredibly energetic and live performance behind the decks which has stormed the UK and European club and festival scene with unforgettable live shows. The Men In Masks collective has included DJ partners such as co-founder El Mysterio (Alex Woodhall – Star Stories), Salsa Verde (Adam Ryan – Barfly Group), Doctor Chipotle (Jez Cauldwell – Gigfoot Touring) and The Green Baron (Kaiser Saucy – The Looose Cannons / KISS FM).

Jeff started spinning at London’s indie and dance clubs in 2005, breaking the mould by mixing together indie, electro, miami bass, hip hop, motown, funk, northern soul, samba, baile, grime, drumNbass, house, old skool rave and everything in between. DJ MEN IN MASKS is rapidly impressing both his artistic peers and crowds around the world. This week we bring you another unmissable line up. With doors opening at 9pm the night will feature the debut Irish dj appearance of Lovefoxx from Cansei de ser sexy (CSS) and the first gig form Dublin Alt rockers Humanzi in almost two years.

We have been told to expect crazy dancing,stage dancing and even stripping off from the beautiful Lovefoxx while previous shows from Humanzi have ended in near riots!

Following a seemingly two-year silence, Humanzi are now locked and loaded and ready to fire out their most exciting offerings to date. A move to Berlin from Dublin in early 2007 was to spell the beginning of some serious grafting, culminating in an album (as yet untitled) that can, at the least, be described as a passionateand daring body of work.

Despite the immense focus on writing and recording, the band found time to not only fine-tune their new catalogue of music, but also to ensure their live shows remain as rousing and explosive as ever. Whether touring Scandinavia, playing European festivals or touring with German heavyweights, the Beatsteaks, Humanzi’s new material and fresh attitude has evoked excitement and staggering receptions wherever they’ve been heard.

The first release ‘BassBalls’ comes out on 7inch and digital download from june 5th on Kick In The Eye Records.

This week were goin back in time to the heady days of early 90’s RAVE with an extended dj set from masked hardcore heroes ALTERN-8. With recent dj sets here being tagged as unforgettable, this night will see the debut dublin performance of the legends alongside their dancers and MC.

ALTERN-8 crashed the UK charts in 1991 with ‘Infiltrate 202’ and Acitiv-8 (Come with me).They were aided in their chart aspirations by the circulation of fictitous press stories concerning their alleged activities, which included promoting the decongestant Vicks Vapo-Rub, which it was claimed, heightened the effects of ecstasy: and standing as local candidates for the 1993 general election!

Their live events were also designed as eye catching performances, where the band donned RAF chemical warfare suits and dust masks.

We will be handing out overalls with face masks and glowsticks on the night so get down early to get your own!!

THE BLOODY BEETROOTS

Imagine the love child of the Misfits and Daft Punk; the act of conception would be grisly, but what a mighty offspring their union would generate. A formidable figure a la Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo, the polymath and producer behind the Bloody Beetroots.

While Bloody Beetroots burst on to the scene in 2007, Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo did not spring forth from the godhead fully formed. Born in Bassano del Grappa, Italy, in 1977, our hero started young, studying classical guitar and learning to sight read via the traditional solfège method (you know – like “Do Re Mi” in The Sound of Music). But his imagination was fired by other sources:The raw energy of punk and rockabilly music; the vibrant images and outrageous storylines of comics by Max Bunker, Benito Jacovitti, and especially Tanino Liberatore, creator of the cyberpunk RanXerox.

In 2007, two pivotal releases pushed Bloody Beetroots to the next level. First, a vigorous overhaul of “Maniac,” the percolating 1983 electro-pop smash from the soundtrack of Flashdance, an homage so inspired it won accolades from original composer Michael Sembello. Next up was “Discommunication,” a futuristic disco redux of Timbaland’s “Miscommunication.”

Dim Mak founder Steve Aoki was an early, and passionate, convert: “The Bloody Beetroots is my favorite project right now. Bob’s remixes are some of my biggest bangers in my sets.” He lost no time in snapping up Bloody Beetroots to release their US debut, the ROMBO EP

Barry La Rocque started djing around 8 years ago and has developed quite a name for himself. He is part of a electro tech group called “The Arcs Of Triumph”, and also dj’s under the name Whisperjack, which is an output for all things techno.

Barry also co-ran a bi-monthly night called “Tetric” in the hub (now the Tink Tank), which later moved to The Button Factory to have great success with artists such as Felix Cartal, Don Rimini, Swayzak, Hystereo, Deadbots, The Bloody Beetroots and Steve Aoki to name afew.
Barry has played along side big names such as A1 Bassline, Filex Cartal, Bloody Beetroots, Fairmont, Modeselektor amongst many more.

Some of Barry upcoming gigs include Mr.jones on april 30th, Life festival and Airbound.
