Rutin for Prevention of Thrombosis in MTF Transsexual Hormone Therapy

Thrombosis. A scary word. This is the term for a formation of a blood clot, and is the ONE remaining significant risk of MTF hormone treatment with modern forms of estradiol. Blood clots have been known to travel to the heart, lung, or brain, causing damage in the form of Ischemia - reduced blood flow, which can be crippling or lethal. In the past, the risk of thrombosis was heavily linked to "conjugated estrogens" - also known as the trademarked drug Premarin, a mix of horse estrogen metabolites obtained from pregnant mares, or forms of Ethinyl Estradiol, a synthetic estrogen.

Additional minor risks have been associated with taking estradiol or estradiol valerate in pill form. But even if Premarin and Estinyl are avoided, and estradiol in pill form is avoided, there is still a theoretical risk of thrombosis, because estradiol always has at least a slight effect on clotting time. Many have advised (your doctor, perhaps, or a friend) taking baby aspirin daily to assist you with reducing that risk. There is reason to believe that strategy may have some limited benefit for transsexual HRT. But in this article I will outline use of RUTIN for that purpose -- quite possibly a superior method.

The discovery dates from May of 2012. The Harvard researchers knew that clotting was moderated by Protein disulfide isomerase (PDI), so they began a search for inhibitors of that substance. They knew that PDI inhibitors would do two things - reduce platelet based clotting (clots in arteries are mostly platelet-based), and also reduce fibrinogen based clotting (clotting in veins is dependent more on Fibrinogen than platelets). That's better than Aspirin, which does only ONE of these - increasing the platelet-based clotting time. Aspirin is useful in preventing some types of heart attacks. But aspirin does little for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), the killer of some transsexual women on HRT.

The researchers designed a test which checked thousands of substances for their ability to inhibit the Protein Disulfide Isomerase (PDI). Several interesting substances were identified, but it was Rutin, a simple plant based extract, that was most interesting of the PDI inhibiting substances. Flavonols similar to or containing Rutin had already been shown to confer protection against myocardial infarction and stroke, proportional to their dosage, but
Rutin exceeded all previously known substances as a PDI inhibitor.

Harvard lead investigator Robert Flaumenhaft said, “It’s not always fully appreciated that the majority of Americans will die as the result of a blood clot in either their heart or their brain. Approximately half of all morbidity and mortality in the United States can be attributed to heart attack or stroke... Rutin proved to be the most potently anti-thrombotic compound that we ever tested.” Their game-changing article is entitled, “Protein Disulfide Isomerase Inhibitors Constitute a New Class of Antithrombotic Agents.” published in Journal of Clinical Investigation.

Transsexual women have suffered weak and compromised HRT for decades based on their doctors belief that estrogen-caused thrombosis was the overriding risk, forcing them to administer a low estradiol dose, aided by antiandrogens such as Spironolactone.

However, there is evidence today that antiandrogens contribute to anxiety, depression, and cognitive impairment in trans women, and may indirectly cause an increase in self harm, suicide, and addictive behavior in this highly stressed patient population. Also, antiandrogens have been shown to sabotage success in full feminization, fat mobilization, and breast development, the key goals of HRT.

From studies of male prostate patients we know that HRT with higher levels of estradiol, but without any antiandrogen, is highly effective in suppressing testosterone and producing feminizing effects, but of course, some doctors still feared that high estradiol levels would outweigh their benefits. But now, with easy access to a potent anti-thrombotic treatment, it is to be hoped that more patients can experience the benefits of HRT using parenteral estradiol alone, at levels which are highly effective at feminization.

Rutin seems destined to become a mandatory adjunct in HRT. It is a simple low cost supplement which can be bought at local vitamin stores or online. It is FDA recognized as a safe herbal supplement. Rutin occurs naturally in buckwheat seeds, teas, many fruits and fruit rinds. Doses of 200-600mg daily, taken once or twice a day, are appropriate for anti-thrombotic uses. I take it every day -- perhaps you should too. Many online vitamin distributors offer Rutin, but be sure you rely on reputable vitamin manufacturers. And, why not tell your friends. Even for men, and women not taking added estrogens, Rutin may offer life-saving benefits.

A bill to allow transgender and gender diverse people to change the sex listed on their birth certificate without surgery has cleared its first hurdle, passing the Victorian legislative assembly on Thursday.

The equality minister, Martin Foley, said the legislation was an opportunity for trans and gender diverse people to have “their true self reflected” on their birth certificate.

It would make life “less humiliating, difficult, and impractical for people”, he said.

“This bill will make a contribution to saving lives. Do not underestimate the power of reform this parliament is considering,” he said.

The bill requires the person making the application to make a statutory declaration when nominating the sex to be recorded, and must include a statement from an adult who has known them for 12 months or more who believes the application is being made in good faith and supports the change. The legislation passed 56 to 27.

Under current legislation, transgender people have to undergo surgery to affirm their sex, which is often complicated, not conducted in Australia, and not covered by Medicare.

In parliament on Thursday, Labor and Greens MPs in favour of the bill spoke of the embarrassment and shame trans and gender diverse people experience for the document not to reflect their identified sex.

Often it was personal stories on how the change would directly affect the lives of transgender people, including Isabelle Langley, a student who had sent the parliamentarians a video on the law change.

The Greens MP Sam Hibbins said that the existing law was unjust and impractical, and accused the Australian newspaper of campaigning against the law change with its recent focus on trans issues.

“It’s one thing to not be uncomfortable to or to not understand. It’s another thing to run a hate campaign,” he said.

Liberals and Nationals are voting against the legislation, as they did in 2016, but MPs from both parties who spoke against the legislation all said they were not doing so out of “bigotry” or hatred of transgender people, but because the legislation is not confined to them.

The Nationals MP Danny O’Brien said that transgender people “go through hell” throughout their lives, but his opposition was about what others who were not transgender might do.

“The concern [is] that someone can simply change their sex does have wide-ranging ramifications,” he said.

“I can absolutely see a circumstance where an offender … sees this as an opportunity. ‘I’m going to change my sex and then I’m going to get transferred to a women’s prison.’ Under this legislation that can be allowed.”

Under the legislation, there is an approval process in place similar for offenders changing their name whereby a supervising authority needs to consider the reasonableness of the application, and security and welfare issues associated with it.

The Liberal MP Louise Staley said the legislation could have been restricted to just male, female and ‘x’ sex descriptors, similar to what is available on passports. She also said that an affirmation requirement was not enough for someone wanting to change their certificate.

Staley claimed the change would allow men to change their sex on the certificate and then “harass and harm women in women-only spaces”.

“It is dangerous and wrong-headed to create law based on self-affirmation,” she said.

Valentina Sampaio is a Brazilian model and actress. She became Victoria's Secret's first openly transgender model in August 2019.

Early life

Valentina Sampaio was born in a fishing village in Aquiraz, Ceará, which is in Northeastern Brazil. Her mother is a schoolteacher and her father is a fisherman. At 8 years of age, her psychologist identified her as transgender, but she did not start calling herself Valentina until she was 12.

She has said "I always felt like a girl,” but she chooses not to reveal what her name was before she chose Valentina or when she transitioned. She has said in many interviews that she was not bullied for her gender identification.A 2017 New York Times profile of Sampaio mentioned that her parents "were always supportive and are very proud" of her, and her classmates were also very accepting because she said that "they already saw me as a little girl."

Sampaio initially studied architecture in Fortaleza, but she dropped out at 16 to study at a fashion college. It was there that a makeup artist discovered her and signed her with a São Paulo modeling agency.

Modeling career

In 2014, a clothing company fired Sampaio from her first modeling job because of her transgender identification. Although she was supposed to be in one of their ad campaigns, the company - which she has not disclosed - told her that the brand was conservative and its clients would not be receptive to a transgender model.Despite this hurdle at the very beginning of her career, she left her home state of Ceará for the first time to act in an independent film in Rio de Janeiro that later debuted at São Paulo Fashion Week.

In November 2016, she first walked her first runway at São Paulo Fashion Week. Soon after, L'Oréal made a short film about Sampaio, which they released on International Women's Day, and later the company made her one of the company's brand ambassadors. She is a L'Oréal Paris spokeswoman along with several other Brazilian women including: Grazi Massafera, Taís Araújo, Juliana Paes, Isabeli Fontana, Emanuela de Paula, Ágatha Moreira, and Sophia Abrahão.

In February 2017, Sampaio received international media attention after appearing on the cover of Vogue Paris and becoming the first transgender model to appear on the magazine's cover. Later that year, she also appeared the covers of Vogue Brasil and Vogue Germany. She is the first openly transgender woman to be featured on both magazines' covers as well. Other magazine cover appearances of Sampaio's include Vanity Fair Italia, Elle Mexico, and L'Officiel Turkiye. She has also worked with brands such as Dior, H&M, Marc Jacobs, Moschino, L'Oréal, and Philipp Plein. She is now signed with New York modeling agency The Lions.

In 2018, she was photographed on her way to the casting of the 2018 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show but she was not hired.

In early August 2019, Sampaio indicated her association with Victoria's Secret PINK on her Instagram account, making her the first openly transgender Victoria's Secret model. Her agent confirmed that VS PINK had hired Sampaio for a catalog photo shoot that will be released sometime in August. Nearly all news sources that covered Sampaio's hiring mentioned the timing between this hiring and the notorious November 2018 Vogue interview in which the Victoria's Secret parent company's chief marketing officer Ed Razek commented that he doesn't think that the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show should feature "transsexuals" in the show. The day after news about Sampaio's hiring came out, Razek resigned.

Valentina Sampaio is making history as the first openly transgender model for Victoria’s Secret. She took to Instagram to share a glimpse of her on set, shooting for the VS PINK line. She captioned the photo: “Backstage click @vspink,” which many fans interpreted as an announcement that she was officially working for the legacy lingerie brand.

BB Gandanghari (English: Ms. Beautiful King, born Rustom Cariño Padilla on September 4, 1967) is a Filipino transgender actor, model, entertainer, comedian, and director. She is the older sibling of actor Robin Padilla and younger sibling of Royette and Rommel Padilla, all of whom are actors. Gandanghari, then known as Rustom Padilla enjoyed success in Philippine films from the early 1990s before taking a hiatus in 2001. She returned to prominence in 2006 when she joined the Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition where she came out after 44 days. In 2009, she revealed she is a transgender woman and changed her name to BB Gandanghari (sometimes spelled BeBe Gandanghari), saying that the person whom the people used to know is already dead.

In an interview, Gandanghari stated the name is derived from the Filipino words Bb. (abbreviation of Binibini, an honorific equivalent to "Miss") and Gandanghari, a portmanteau of the words ganda (beauty) and hari (king), adding that the "Bb." refers to her motto "'Be' all that you can 'be'".

Background

The name "Jenny" was chosen to honor her sister, Eugenia, who supported their family when they moved to Athens. Hiloudaki went on to complete sex reassignment surgery at Charing Cross Hospital, in the United Kingdom, when she was twenty years old.

Career

After sex reassignment surgery, Hiloudaki became a top model in Greece, working with many Greek models and doing photoshoots for multiple Greek magazines. She had also modelled on a catwalk in Italy and was photographed next to Italian actress Sophia Loren. Hiloudakis was voted "Greek Woman of the Year" in 2000.

She appeared in the films My Boss, My Hero (2001) and Sex Is Zero (2002), providing comic relief in effeminate male roles, but felt pressured into cutting her hair and building up muscle. Lee recalled that, "once I entered showbiz, I was forced to live a life I didn't like", and growing increasingly unhappy, made several attempts at suicide before deciding to transition.

Personal life

Geena Rocero was born in Manila, Philippines to a working-class family. She started competing in beauty pageants at age 15.

Rocero immigrated to San Francisco, California at age 17. In 2005, Geena Rocero moved to New York City, and she became a U.S. citizen in 2006.

Career

Rocero was discovered by a fashion photographer in a restaurant on the Lower East Side of Manhattan when she was 21 years old. She was then signed to top agency NEXT Model Management and spent 12 years modeling for international swimsuit and beauty editorials, earning herself a large fan base.

In 2014, Rocero was featured on the fifth anniversary cover of C☆NDY magazine along with 13 other transgender women: Janet Mock, Carmen Carrera, Laverne Cox, Isis King, Gisele Alicea, Leyna Ramous, Dina Marie, Nina Poon, Juliana Huxtable, Niki M’nray, Pêche Di, Carmen Xtravaganza and Yasmine Petty.

Adding to her resumé in 2015, Rocero became Executive Producer of “Beautiful As I Want To Be,” a digital series for Logo focused on transgender youth. The show spotlights young trans people, and pairs them with a coach or mentor in the trans community. In the first episode, Zeam, a young trans man and artist, is paired with Caitlyn Jenner. Jenner in the episode mentions Rocero as "the first trans person I ever met". And Rocero has also been featured on Jenner's show "I Am Cait."

Activism

On March 31, 2014, in honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility, Rocero came out as transgender while giving a TED talk in New York City. On September 19, 2014, excerpts of Rocero's TED talk were featured on NPR's TED Radio Hour podcast.

In 2014, Rocero launched Gender Proud, "an advocacy & awareness campaign that aims to advance the rights of all transgender individuals."

Carmen Roman (born Christopher Roman; April 13, 1985), better known by her stage name Carmen Carrera is an American reality television personality, model, burlesque performer, and actress, known for appearing on the third season of the Logo reality television series RuPaul's Drag Race, as well as its spin-off series RuPaul's Drag U. Although she presented as male during the third season of RuPaul's Drag Race, on May 1, 2012, ABC News reported that Carrera is a transgender woman.

Life and career

Carrera was born in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. She appeared in the third season of the reality television competition show, RuPaul's Drag Race. Carrera is the second contestant in the history of the show (after season three cast-mate, Shangela) to rejoin the cast after being eliminated, and along with Raja, Manila Luzon, and Delta Work, was part of the clique known as "Heathers", which took its name from the 1988 film, Heathers. In episode 10, "RuPaul-a-Palooza", Carrera was eliminated for her performance while singing a reggae-inspired cover of RuPaul's song "Superstar." Judges Michelle Visage, Santino Rice, and Billy Brasfield voted to re-invite Carrera to the competition in episode 12, "Jocks in Frocks." Subsequently, Carrera was eliminated in that episode after styling a muscular male athlete in her own signature, "nude"-style of drag.

The November 2011 issue of W featured a series of fictional products in realistically styled advertisements as part of an issue-wide art project. Carrera was featured in the series as the face for the fictional fragrance La Femme. In 2011, Carrera, along with third season Drag Race contestants Manila Luzon and Shangela Laquifa Wadley, appeared in a television commercial for the travel-related website Orbitz.

Carrera has also been active in AIDS awareness and activism. After being featured in a Gilead Sciences ad entitled "Red Ribbon Runway" with fellow Drag Race co-stars Manila Luzon, Delta Work, Shangela Laquifa Wadley, and Alexis Mateo, the dress she wore was auctioned by Logo in commemoration of World AIDS Day. Proceeds from the auction were donated to the National Association of People with AIDS.

Carrera appeared as a "drag professor" in two episodes of the second season of RuPaul's Drag U. In the episode "80s Ladies," she gave singer Stacey Q a confidence-boosting makeover.

In an episode of the ABC news program Primetime: What Would You Do? that aired on May 4, 2012, Carrera portrayed the role of a transgender server working in a New Jersey diner. An actor playing a customer berates Carrera's character regarding his past experience of being served by her when she had presented as male, prompting other customers to come to Carrera's defense. This program also marked the first occasion in which Carrera publicly revealed herself to be transgender.

On June 11, 2012, Carrera appeared in an episode of the TLC series Cake Boss, "Bar Mitzvah, Beads & Oh Baby!", in which she unknowingly participated in a prank involving "Cousin Anthony" Bellifemine, the cousin of "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro, who was set up with a date with Carrera. The punchline of the joke had Valastro tell Bellifemine that "...that's a man, baby!" Carrera, however, originally agreed to appear on the program to promote equality for the transgender community, not aware that she would be involved in a joke. Following the airing of the program, Carrera complained about the situation on Facebook:

By calling me a 'MAN' promotes ignorance and makes it ok to call transgender women, men. PEOPLE GET BULLIED, BEAT UP, AND KILLED FOR BEING TRANS BECAUSE OF THIS IGNORANCE! ... I made it VERY clear to the producers on how to use the correct wording before agreeing to filming this but instead they chose to poke fun and be disrespectful. That's not what Im about! ... I may not have been born a woman, but im NOT a man. I told them I wouldn't mind if they said 'born male' or 'was a male'. After taking this journey it's not fair at all to be lied to by the producers.

Valastro subsequently apologized for the incident, saying that "I owe an apology to the entire LGBT community. It was absolutely not my intention to upset or offend her, or anyone within the community, and I was wrong to use the words I did. I am a supporter of gay rights and equality, and while I regret this situation and my choice of words, I am thankful to have received this feedback and the opportunity to learn from this mistake. I hope that Carmen accepts my sincere regrets." The following day, on June 12, 2012, TLC announced that "Bar Mitzvah, Beads & Oh Baby!" has been pulled from rotation indefinitely; the network has plans to re-edit the episode for future broadcast.

A petition started requesting that Carrera serve as a model during the 2013 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, but despite media coverage and approximately 45,000 signatures the petition was unsuccessful.

In March 2014, Carrera openly criticized RuPaul for use of the pejorative "she-male" on a RuPaul's Drag Race episode. She continued to be critical of RuPaul when the issue arose again in 2015, after Logo pulled the "Female of She-Mail" game from DragRace, which prompted RuPaul to defend the use of the word "tranny". Carrera's continued protests led to accusations by others that she was biting the hand that fed her. Carrera responded that, while she appreciates the opportunity to compete on DragRace, she ultimately earned her status through her efforts and those of her agent, friends, fans, and family, and that she was not beholden to support RuPaul's use of transphobic language.

Carrera was featured in the work of photographer David LaChapelle. She posed for a poster for Life Ball, depicted with both male and female genitalia to represent the blurring of gender identity.

In 2014, Carrera was included as part of the Advocate's annual "40 under 40" list and made a cameo appearance on Jane the Virgin's premier episode.

Also in 2014, Carrera was featured on the fifth anniversary cover of C☆NDY magazine along with 13 other transgender women: Janet Mock, Laverne Cox, Geena Rocero, Isis King, Gisele Alicea, Leyna Ramous, Dina Marie, Nina Poon, Juliana Huxtable, Niki M’nray, Pêche Di, Carmen Xtravaganza and Yasmine Petty.

Personal life

Carrera was in a domestic partnership with Adrian Torres since 2009, but she announced in 2013 that they had separated. In 2015, the two were together, receiving relationship counseling while being filmed for the Couples Therapy television show.

Carrera had identified as a gay man, and continued to present as such during filming of the third season of RuPaul's Drag Race, but began to gender transition when she concluded filming. She is of Puerto Rican-Peruvian ancestry.

She is a rising star in Taiwan's fashion industry and a popular television personality. Originally born as a male named Liu Zihua on June 12, 1986, in Taoyuan, Liu underwent sex change surgery at the age of 18.

In October 2006, Liu participated in a fashion contest on Taiwan TVBS and started her entertainment career. In September 2008, Liu signed with Taiwan EeLin Modeling Agency Ltd., becoming a professional model. Since 2000, Liu has been seen in various Taiwanese TV programs, including Guess Guess Guess, 100% Entertainment and KangXi Lai Le.

Liu had male genitalia at birth and was given the name Zi-hua (Chinese: 子華), but underwent sex reassignment surgery at the age of 18. She became popular following a number of appearances on a parody television programme, but was outed in January 2010 by a former schoolmate who posted her graduation photo online. In response, Liu held a press conference where she stated that she was happy being a woman and that the past was not important, but only confirmed that she was a transsexual when interviewed by the China Times a week later. As her mother wanted to have a daughter, she was raised as a girl at an early age.Her mother sometimes put lipstick on her and pretended she was a girl.

According to Liu, she believed she was a girl from the age of 3. When she was still a little child, she suffered from this belief and the subsequent conflicts with reality. Believing that she could begin again if she died, she copied a suicide scene in a TV series and slit her wrists. Fortunately, the attempt was unsuccessful.

In order to prevent Liu from attempting suicide again, her mother told her, "When you are 16, you will magically turn into a princess."

Her mother's lie gave her hope. Liu waited patientlyuntil her 16th birthday. She was so excited she couldn't fall asleep, waiting for a miracle that sadly never came.

Liu's life was full of such difficulties. In junior high, the boys made fun of her for wearing makeup. They disliked her mannerisms and mocked her constantly.

Once, the boys threw her onto a bed in the dorm and started threatening to take her clothes off and bit her on the shoulders to see how soft her skin was. Liu could only cry and beg them to stop.

After spending a difficult three years at high school, she was accepted into the Hunan Mass Media Vocational Technical College in Changsha.

Transsexual Surgery

In college, Liu fell in love with a boy but quickly realized that they could not be together if she did not undergo transsexual surgery. She became convinced that being a boy was not the life she really wanted. She told the boy that she would come back for him in three years.

Liu's family strongly opposed the surgery, believing that she was only doing it to gain fame. They kept her at home and made her cut her hair, which she had left to grow long. Eventually, she escaped and began working towards her dream of becoming a girl.

At the time, transsexual surgery cost tens of thousands of US dollars. To earn money at the beginning, Liu danced at a nightclub, performing with a boa constrictor. She used the name Lan Xi for her performance. Lan stood for 'male', reminding her of her gender, while Xi was the first name of the boy she loved.

In order to save every penny, Liu only ate one meal a day costing 2.5 yuan (US$ 0.4). She bound her feet to prevent them from growing. She had no friends and was often overwhelmingly lonely. But all her sacrifices paid off three years later when she had saved enough money to pay for her surgery.

"It was not a rash decision. I felt relief instead of pain after the surgery," said Liu."It was worth all the suffering that had come before."

After surgery, Liu contacted her mother, who asked her to come back home. Since then, she has embarked on a completely new life.

A Fashion Model

Later, Liu moved to Beijing to work as a model. She had two relationships, both of which ended when the families of the men found out that she was unable to bear children.

Liu began to gain a measure of fame after being featured in several established fashion magazines and was invited to shoot advertisements for online games. She gained a large male following.

At the beginning of 2011, Liu admitted on her blog that she was a transsexual, after several netizens published photos of her before her surgery.

"I would rather announce this publicly than allow them to hurt me. Many years ago, I did undergo transsexual surgery," Liu wrote. "I am being completely frank to everyone. I have been so tired, but now I feel as if all the pressure from the past six years has been released."

"We were in a relationship for over half a year, but I never realized that she had been a boy," said one of Liu's exes.

Before her announcement, Liu was occasionally bothered by text messages from wealthy men and directors, asking her to be their mistress.

"I have never received those types of messages again," she said when her exes and friends called her to ask about whether what she wrote in her blog was true.

Although most of her followers found it hard to accept the fact that she is a transsexual, Liu has gained some respect and recognition for being the first transsexual model in China.

Biography

Tsubaki entered Aoyama Gakuin University as a male, but left in the second year to work at a transsexual bar in Kabukichō, Tokyo. In July 2006, she underwent sex reassignment surgery in Phuket, Thailand, and in December 2006, officially changed her registered gender from male to female in the koseki family registry. She resumed studies at Aoyama Gakuin University from April 2007. She also works as a fashion model for the Koakuma Ageha girls' fashion magazine.

Choi Han-bit (Hangul: 최한빛) is a South Korean model and actress. She is a graduate of the School of Dance at the Korean National University of Arts in Seoul, where she majored in Korean traditional dance. With the support of her parents, Choi underwent male-to-female sex reassignment surgery in 2006. She changed her given name from Han-jin to Han-bit, and is legally recognized as female in South Korea. In an interview, Choi said that "living with the female body itself brought me the greatest feeling of euphoria", but also that she has "a fond memory of the past before the operation". Prior to her surgery, she had appeared on the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) television show Yoo Jae-suk's Jinsil Game in 2005.She was a contestant on Korea's Next Top Model, Cycle 3, where she ended 10th.

Career

After transitioning, Choi began to pursue her lifelong ambition of becoming a model. In 2009, she was amongst more than 1,200 applicants to the annual SBS-sponsored Super Model Contest, and gained public attention by progressing through the contest's preliminary rounds. Choi's participation drew mixed reactions from internet users and other contestants, but SBS officials stated that they would view it as a "violation of human rights" to disqualify a transgender individual whose legal sex was female. As one of the contest's 32 finalists, Choi automatically qualified as a professional model. Despite this, Choi claims to have faced discrimination in the modelling industry, having been refused participation in a fashion show without any clear reason. Since taking part in Super Model Contest, Choi has appeared on a number of television shows and has expressed a desire to become an actress. She has said that she hopes to marry around the age of thirty, and will adopt two children.

Harisu (Hangul: 하리수; Hanja: 河莉秀) is the stage name of Lee Kyung-eun originally Lee Kyung-yeop (born February 17, 1975), a South Korean pop singer, model, and actress. Assigned male at birth, Harisu identified as female from early childhood, and underwent sex reassignment surgery in the 1990s. She is noted for being South Korea's first transgender entertainer, and in 2002 became only the second person in Korea to legally change their gender. Her stage name is an adaptation of the English phrase "hot issue".

Harisu first gained public attention in 2001, after appearing in a television commercial for DoDo cosmetics. The commercial was a big success and ended up launching her career, allowing her to branch out into other fields such as music and acting. So far she has recorded five Korean musical albums, switching genres between techno and R&B, and her overseas releases have featured songs recorded in Mandarin. Kelly van der Veer (born 6 May 1980) is a Dutch television personality and singer. She is a trans woman, and is regarded the most prominent transsexual person in the Netherlands who rose to fame after competing in Big Brother - The Battle, a Dutch version of the Big Brother-format.

Early life

During her childhood, Van der Veer sang on several Kinderen voor Kinderen (a children's choir) albums. Van der Veer stated her teenage years were "the most difficult phase of her life". She was often mistaken for a girl and frequently had to face ridicule because of this. She saw an escape from her plight in gaining prominence as a media personality and therefore participated in "De Travestiet Show" (English: The Transvestite Show) in 1997, entering as the youngest contestant at time. She underwent sex reassignment surgery at age 19.

Rise to fame

In 2001, Van der Veer became a contestant on Big Brother and thus arose as a national celebrity. She finished as a finalist and revived her music career shortly after dropping from the show. Later appearing in over six television shows. She established her own comedy item on Dutch talk show Jensen!, called "Just Kel". Van der Veer is a notable figure in Dutch television due to her transsexuality. As of 2009, Van der Veer has established a website providing webcam sex for payment.

Other ventures

After finishing her run as a Big Brother participant, Van der Veer released a single, "I Am What I Am". Simultaneously, she released the same-titled album I Am What I Am; the album performed poorly both critically and commercially. As of 2010, she has released three singles, "I Am What I Am" followed by "Proud Mary" (2006) and "Ik Doe Wat Ik Doe" (2010).

Van der Veer collaborated with Andries de Jong, one of her fellow contestants at Big Brother, on the autobiographical book Kelly, which appeared in a Dutch paperback edition in 2006 (ISBN 9-027-43984-2).

In 2004, Kelly had a short cameo appearance as an unnamed lesbian in the Dutch movie Gay. The film, however, was not very successful at the box office as it did not appeal to the contemporary image of homosexuals in the Netherlands.

Kim Petras (born 27 August 1992) is a German singer and songwriter who creates pop music and various covers in an a cappella style. She has been the subject of extensive worldwide news media reporting of her gender transition medical history in the context of her young age.

Early life

Kim Petras was born Tim Petras on 27 August 1992. Her parents, Lutz and Konni, have said that from the age of two, she began insisting she was a girl. It became apparent this was "not just a phase," and her parents tried to be supportive but made her wear gender neutral clothes in public. Eventually her parents sought professional help but struggled to find people who were knowledgeable on the subject. In time they found Bernd Meyenburg at Frankfurt University who was head of a clinic for children and had studied transsexuality since the 1970s.

Music career

In 2007, Petras recorded a few home videos of herself singing, and uploaded them onto the internet. Her videos, which included some of her own compositions, were seen by German music producer Fabian Görg. She was subsequently signed to the independent record label, Joyce Records.

In 2008, Petras released two more compositions, this time produced by Görg. The first, "Last Forever", was released online and became popular on YouTube and MySpace. A few months later in September 2008, she released her first commercially available CD single, "Fade Away", into the German market. The title track from the single was also made available for download worldwide via a number of online electronic music retailers.

On 17 April 2009, the previously free promotional track "Last Forever" was made available on iTunes Germany. She released her first extended play on 11 March 2011 titled "One Piece of Tape". In 2013, Petras was featured on the single "Flight To Paris" by Klaas.

Joyce Records has announced plans to release a debut album for which Petras is currently working on new songs.

Many other songs have been released to the public via YouTube, including many a cappella covers, alternate versions of her own material, and a couple new original songs.

Publicity

In 2006, Petras, then aged 13, made her first significant media appearance in a story on Stern TV, a German television current affairs show. In it, she described her gender transition and the medical treatment received at the Endokrinologikum (endocrinology center) in Hamburg by Achim Wüsthof. However, it wasn't until the following year, aged 14, that Petras gained worldwide attention from the news media. This came about after she appeared in a German television documentary, and a talk show,[11] in a push to get permission for early gender reassignment surgery at age 16. According to German law, a person must normally be at least 18 to be allowed to undergo this kind of surgery.

The publicity generated from the 2007 TV appearances resulted in many news articles about her gender transition at age 12 and describing her as the "world's youngest transsexual". This assertion, however, is inaccurate, as gender identity disorder is often diagnosed in early childhood and transition by children under 12, though uncommon, is not unknown. However, Petras may have been one of the youngest people at that time to receive female hormone treatments.

In September 2007, she was a model for a nationwide chain of German hair salons.

Petras turned 16 in 2008, and announced in a November 2008 post on her blog that she had recently completed her gender reassignment surgery. The story hit the news media on 4 February 2009 and appeared in newspapers worldwide, even making the front page of some. A common theme of these articles is that Petras may be the youngest person in the world to have had gender reassignment surgery.

Petras is very adamant that her gender has always been female. In an interview about her surgery she stated "I was asked if I feel like a woman now - but the truth is I have always felt like a woman - I just ended up in the wrong body".
