Pulaski travel agents and Goldrush Getaways travel agents should all join Orbitz for Agents. The first five hundred agents to join will make additional commissions through March of 2011. The platform is easy to use and eliminates many of the issues for home based agents in confirming that they can assist their friends and families in booking travel and competing with online agencies.

This does not replace your ability or need to book directly with preferred vendors or providers. This option does not maximize saving for your customers or maximize your commissions. It also does not eliminate issues or drawbacks of booking with an online agency. I must remind you of the increased flexibility and ability to resolve issues by booking directly with travel provider or through our preferred vendors.

This is a tool to put in your travel agent toolbox for use when a client brings you a package put together by Orbitz utilizing multiple vendors. I am recommending that you sign up but be very familiar with the terms of use, rules and restrictions BEFORE utilizing the site.

Three rules that stand out:

1) Orbitz for Agents^SM rates, information, and taxes are subject to change without notice. PRICES ARE NOT GUARANTEED UNTIL THE PRODUCT OR SERVICE HAS BEEN PAID IN FULL, AND YOU RECEIVE A CONFIRMATION E-MAIL MESSAGE THAT THE RESERVATION HAS BEEN COMPLETED.

The new site does allow agents to book and assembly custom packages for clients and add a service fee and mark ups. Where this tool may prove valuable is combining air and car or hotel and car packages with vendors that do not have an existing partnership.

The one tool that is missing is the ability to search and book air only. The ability to book air and add a service fee would add value to this site as a tool for agents. I have requested such an option from Orbitz for Agents.

Pulaski Travel Agent Announcement: Norwegian Cruise Lines led the way with mainstream “Freestyle Cruising” and now leads the way for single cruisers. NCL is now providing 100-square-foot studio accommodations on the Norwegian Epic for your Solo Travelers.

The Epic has 128 solo cabins designated for your single cruisers. The rates are comparable to the rate for the second berth in a standard cabin.

The “single supplement” has prevented many of the 100 million singles from taking a cruise in the past. 35 million of those singles travel every year, but only 5 % have cruised. Here is a brand new market for you with 100 million people.

Cruise West and Oceania Cruises have waived the single supplement recently as a means of increasing sales, but NCL hits the mainstream first.

FTC Regulations apply to Travel Agents marketing both on the Internet and offline

For all those travel agents out there marketing on the Internet, be aware of the new guidelines that were updated recently(Effective December 1, 2009). These guideline are not really new, just updated and are now being clarified to be more easily enforced.

There are in my opinion three types of people marketing on the internet:

a) The ethical marketer selling the products he believes in and avoiding the hype.

b) The unethical marketer who will do anything for the buck and disregards the FTC and other regulator entities.

c) The third is the person trying to learn how to market on the internet and inadvertently crossing the ethical line.

As of December 1, 2009, all three will be scrutinized because of the unethical marketer.

Below is an interview you should listen to if you are advertising on the internet in any capacity.
