            &lt;p style="margin-right: 0px" dir="ltr" align="left"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;Vision:&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;nbsp; All people always experience the safest, highest quality, best-value health care across all settings.&lt;/p&gt;
            &lt;p style="margin-right: 0px" dir="ltr" align="left"&gt;The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 16,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission is the nation&amp;#8217;s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. Since 1951, The Joint Commission has maintained state-of-the-art standards that focus on improving the quality and safety of care provided by health care organizations. The Joint Commission&amp;#8217;s comprehensive process evaluates an organization&amp;#8217;s compliance with these standards and other accreditation or certification requirements. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization&amp;#8217;s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. To earn and maintain The Joint Commission&amp;#8217;s Gold Seal of Approval&amp;#8482;, an organization must undergo an on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team at least every three years. (Laboratories must be surveyed every two years.)&lt;/p&gt;
            &lt;p style="margin-right: 0px" dir="ltr" align="left"&gt;The Joint Commission is governed by a 29-member Board of Commissioners that includes physicians, administrators, nurses, employers, a labor representative, health plan leaders, quality experts, ethicists, a consumer advocate and educators. The Board of Commissioners brings to The Joint Commission diverse experience in health care, business and public policy. The Joint Commission&amp;#8217;s corporate members are the American College of Physicians, the American College of Surgeons, the American Dental Association, the American Hospital Association, and the American Medical Association. The Joint Commission employs approximately 1,000 people in its surveyor force, at its central office in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, and at a satellite office in Washington, D.C. The Washington office is The Joint Commission&amp;#8217;s primary interface with government agencies and with Congress, seeking and maintaining partnerships with the government that will improve the quality of health care for all Americans, and working with Congress on legislation involving the quality and safety of health care.&lt;/p&gt;

            &lt;p style="margin-right: 0px" dir="ltr" align="left"&gt;Joint Commission standards address the organization&amp;#8217;s level of performance in key functional areas, such as patient rights, patient treatment, and infection control. The standards focus not simply on an organization&amp;#8217;s ability to provide safe, high quality care, but on its actual performance as well. Standards set forth performance expectations for activities that affect the safety and quality of patient care. If an organization does the right things and does them well, there is a strong likelihood that its patients will experience good outcomes. The Joint Commission develops its standards in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts, purchasers, and consumers.&lt;/p&gt;
            &lt;p style="margin-right: 0px" dir="ltr" align="left"&gt;Introduced in February 1997, The Joint Commission&amp;#8217;s ORYX&amp;#174; initiative integrates outcomes and other performance measurement data into the accreditation process. ORYX measurement requirements are intended to support Joint Commission accredited organizations in their quality improvement efforts. Performance measures are essential to the credibility of any modern evaluation activity for health care organizations. They supplement and help guide the standards-based survey process by providing a more targeted basis for the regular accreditation survey, for continuously monitoring actual performance, and for guiding and stimulating continuous improvement in health care organizations.             &lt;p&gt;The Joint Commission&amp;#8217;s Health Care Staffing Services (HCSS) Certification Program provides an independent, comprehensive evaluation of a staffing firm&amp;#8217;s ability to provide qualified and competent staffing services. &lt;/p&gt;
            &lt;p&gt;Health care staffing firms are eligible for Joint Commission certification if they:&lt;/p&gt;
            &lt;ul&gt;
                &lt;li&gt;Place temporary clinical staff in other organizations that direct or provide direct patient care.&lt;/li&gt;
                &lt;li&gt;Place temporary clinical staff under the direct supervision of another organization's personnel.&lt;/li&gt;
                &lt;li&gt;Collect and present four months of data for each of the three standardized performance measures.&lt;/li&gt;
                &lt;li&gt;Place at least 10 individual clinical employees on assignments by the time of onsite review. &lt;/li&gt;
            &lt;/ul&gt;
            &lt;h2&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
            Certification process&lt;/h2&gt;
            &lt;p&gt;HCSS firms undergo an announced initial review. Re-certification reviews are unannounced and are conducted on-site every other year. The review focuses on a firm&amp;#8217;s ability to provide competent staffing services and evaluates performance, continuing education and training, placement criteria, and other areas. The standards, contained in the &lt;em&gt;Health Care Staffing Services Certification Manual&lt;/em&gt;, are divided into four sections: &lt;/p&gt;
            &lt;ul&gt;
                &lt;li&gt;Leadership&lt;/li&gt;
                &lt;li&gt;Human resources management&lt;/li&gt;
                &lt;li&gt;Performance measurement and improvement&lt;/li&gt;
                &lt;li&gt;Information management &lt;/li&gt;
            &lt;/ul&gt;
            &lt;h2&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
            Performance measurement&lt;/h2&gt;
            &lt;p&gt;Joint Commission-certified health care staffing firms and firms seeking initial certification are required to adopt a set of three standardized performance measures. These include:&lt;/p&gt;
            &lt;ul&gt;
                &lt;li&gt;Do Not Return Rate for Clinical Reasons&lt;/li&gt;
                &lt;li&gt;Do Not Return Rate for Professional Reasons&lt;/li&gt;
                &lt;li&gt;Completeness of Personnel File &lt;/li&gt;
            &lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; font-family: Comic Sans MS"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt; color: black; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'"&gt;There are obviously advantages and disadvantages with becoming a traveling healthcare professional so the first thing to consider is whether your career and life goals align with the travel company and recruiter you're talking to. As a traveler you will have a chance to visit new locations, work with various equipment and systems, meet a variety of associated professionals, and quite frankly the money isn't too bad, either! However like all great things, there can be downsides; work can be inconsistent and sometimes, you need to be flexible to location.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; font-family: Comic Sans MS"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; font-family: Comic Sans MS"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt; color: black; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'"&gt;The first step I would recommend would be to talk with friends or colleagues that have traveled in the past. (Maybe they're not&amp;nbsp;Pharmacists like you, but many Nurses and&amp;nbsp;Rehab Therapists travel these days - we can refer you to some of our own travelers if that would help!)&amp;nbsp;Many can lend very valuable insight into&amp;nbsp;aspects of travel&amp;nbsp;that you in particular may or may not like.&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The next step is to speak with a recruiter, find out what the market looks like for your clinical niche (in this case Pharmacy) and the location(s) you are interested in. Many areas of the country can be "hotter" markets in travel for a variety of reasons.&amp;nbsp; Also, this is a good time to get to know a recruiter or two and begin to establish a relationship.&amp;nbsp;The biggest reason (in my opinion) for a good experience, or a bad one, is based around the relationship between the traveler and their recruiter.&amp;nbsp; It is important that when you are in a new place that you have someone you can depend on to get you the information you need, fix any problems that may arise, and most importantly, be there to help whenever you need them.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; font-family: Comic Sans MS"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;font face="Times New Roman" size="3"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; font-family: Comic Sans MS"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt; color: black; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'"&gt;If you are planning to travel I would begin this process sooner rather than later because its always good to have as much information as possible.&amp;nbsp; I find that the best time to land a position is 3 weeks to one month before your desired start date which makes the best time to start looking about 4-5 weeks before you would expect to start traveling (that is just a rule of thumb, some positions can be locked up within days depending on the circumstances).&lt;/span&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;div&gt;Many times a travel or contract position works perfectly as a&amp;nbsp;de-facto&amp;nbsp;"extended job interview," and at the end of your contract, clients&amp;nbsp;may hire you full-time away from the travel company. Of course, you get to decide if you want to keep traveling or stay put, but its a nice option to have as a traveler that's important to remember.&lt;/div&gt;

      <title><![CDATA[What about a Car Stipend?]]></title>

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Comic Sans MS"&gt;You bring up a very interesting question.&amp;nbsp;In years past I was under the same impression, with a &amp;#8220;car stipend&amp;#8221; being something that was an acceptable write-off by IRS standards&amp;#8230; however that is incorrect.&amp;nbsp;The most logical explanation I can give is: When you work a local/full time position do you get to write off your mileage to and from work?&amp;nbsp;Of course not.&amp;nbsp;This same logic applies here&amp;#8230; while housing, transportation to/from and daily per-diems are unavoidable &lt;strong&gt;extra&lt;/strong&gt; costs that travelers incur; local mileage is not in the same boat.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

The market has most definitely slowed down... however it is by no means dead.&amp;nbsp;Currently, many of the less specialized fields in radiology (more specifically the job market for X-Ray Techs) have slowed down due to a combination of the national economy and a recent&amp;nbsp;influx of licensed professionals.&amp;nbsp;There is no need to go into panic mode as far as your career in the field is concerned. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
