why interaction is so important to me on social networks: random follows.

I've had that happening more and more on Google+ lately. This has been a major problem on Twitter already, but it still makes me wonder... I know I don't say anything of importance nor am I someone in the public spotlight, so why do certain people follow me?

More often than not, someone's following me as a way to get me to be aware of their product/brand/service/etc. The problem with that is that instead of making me think "oh... that's interesting", it annoys me instead. It looks like a form of unsolicited advertising to me. If we've had a prior interaction, then it makes more sense to me. It would seem that we had a mutual back-and-forth where we enjoyed the conversation we had. Unfortunately, this never seems to be the case.

Now, I know there's nothing I can do about this as it's just the way of public social networks, but that doesn't change the fact I'll still find it as nuisance. A nuisance I guess I'll just have to deal with.

(The other half this problem are services that offer "GET A BAZILLION FOLLOWERS!" that just randomly start following people with no criteria. If you want brand awareness, don't use services like this. Instead, interact. It'll go a long way.)

It took me a little longer than I wanted, but I'm finally making the move to Google+, Google's new social network currently in limited testing.

Unfortunately, I'm having to use an account that isn't my primary email address. This is only a temporary profile until Google+ supports Google Apps accounts, which may not be until the end of year.

As Google+ profile address are a random set of numbers that aren't easy to remember, I've created the much easier to remember address of:

http://plus.travistubbs.me

Once Google Apps accounts are supported, I'll update this post and the redirect on the above address.

After a lot of thinking, I realized this was a stupid decision.

Today, I'm announcing the relaunch of travistubbs.net and InternalServer.net. It's more of a rant if anything. A rant out of frustration at many things. I'll might come back and reflect on this later, but these are my feelings at the time of writing this.

Last night was the first Tuesday in November, and, in America, that only means it was time for another election. As the Democratic-controlled Congress and President Obama didn't hand every American a job in the two years after being elected since the start of a recession three years ago, the American people did the only logical thing it could: vote back in the other party that originally lead us to this mess to begin with. Because, as we all know, the American people are really that stupid.

But I don't blame the American people for that. And I don't blame the Republicans nor the Democrats for that. Is there really anyone to blame?

Read the rest of this post...

Most of that day was spent at the vet. It's a morning I'd rather not relive.

- Since Sunday, we've been to the vet every day for follow-up visits for Baby with another later this afternoon.

- I've been working on an organization's web site. The web site has been fighting me left and right and has taken up a lot of my time.

- Unexpected visits from customers for my dad's store and his friends has led me to cooking dinner a couple of times.

I'm hoping to get back on track now as much as I can and continuing with blog posts, development information and more. It has been with me since 2004.

Because of this, I am currently phone-less. If you send a text or leave a voicemail on my Google Voice number, I will still get it via email. Just don't expect a speedy callback, if needed.

As I am cash strapped, I'm trying to decide what to do. This would be an opportunity to get a Nexus One, but should I just pick up something that costs next to nothing to get back up and going? I'll sleep on this and figure out what to do in the morning. Either way, if you try to call me, you won't get through. Just leave a voicemail or send a text. If you don't have my Google Voice number, let me know (via email or IM, of course) so I can get it go ya.

Of that 25%, a third are STILL using Internet Explorer 6.0, which was release nearly 10 years old. The problem with Internet Explorer 6 is that it does not play well with current web standards. But since a lot of corporations still use IE6, web designers have to find ways to make their sites work with IE6 while wanting to support current web standards. It's a real headache and time-waste.
