I planned to stay here a bit longer, but sadly, there are a lot of mosquitoes around. No time to set up a tripod and enjoying the view. sigh.. But I'm satisfied with this images though there's lot more to improve. I love to make the picture more surreal.

Why I bought Canon 7D?

What do you do on-board ship? Can you watch television? Can you go swimming when you on-board ship? How's life there? Is it boring? Have you seen a big whale or shark?

Above are some of the most common questions I receive about marine engineering from friends and etc., It's quite funny that of all the questions there, none of it... asking about 'engineering' lol

Nevermind, I must admit, for me, getting older and grown up, it makes the life on board becoming more bored, but.. that's if I joined/go for a long contract like 6 months +

It's not all the companies giving only 6 months + contract out there, there is loads of option for us.. like 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, 3months contract, freelance for 1-4weeks job, 2 months on 1 month off.. and so on.. There is a lot choice to pick. It's just that I'm still YOUNG! so I go for the long contract.. to gain experience..! :)

Anyway, lol.. this isn't what I actually want to talk about.. Everyone keep on asking about my activity on board, so here it is... The truth is, this is just a new hobby of mine..

It's just a 4 months old hobby. After I lost my previous dslr 2 months back, recently, I just bought another one, Canon EOS 7D. Some also ask me, why I go for this model, since this is a hi-end semi pro model, and I'm just a newbie. Well, it's because the nature of my job. My environment are easily exposed, and rapid climate change when the ship sail to a different country and regions. From -10° Celsius to 35° Celsius. Some more, as I work as an engineer, we mostly work in engine room, and the temperature is a lots higher than outside.

Example, in the middle east region, if the temperature over there is around 35° Celsius, we down in engine room will facing around 44°-56° Celsius! and that'll keep on changing as we enter into a different area..

The very high risk of sea water spray also has to be considered. So, that's why I chose to buy a weather sealed camera. A weather resistant. I love 7D. Considering the low-light performance, image quality are of course better than 600D and 60D. Plus, the weather resistant advantage, and also.. I love Canon. So that's why, this time, I go for 7D.

Not that I want to show off around, walking here and there, showing off the semi pro.. Please, don't judge a book by its cover. Everything we do for a reason.

p/s: actually there is a lot more reason why I want to buy 7D.. lol, just that, I think this post is already a bit long, so maybe next time lol..

this is the first time in my life spending more than 2 months break which is not actually feeling like it.. house been robbed, and losing my beloved and best person ever, my grandfather who passed away last month. He was the first person that I really cared about and lost.

thinking back now I really must say, I feel lucky and privileged to have known grandfather to this day, for in my life, you have played a special part, the memories I will treasure and keep close to your heart.

Robbers

Now It's been 12 days since I signed off from the vessel. Seeing the last login was 2 months ago with no update from this blog, I guess my 'output' kind of poor. Sigh. Though I got internet connection onboard. The usage is limit to 180mb per crew. Darn! Just a 3 hour normal browsing, later a warning box will pop up, Remind the credit is LOW. jncsldnwoenwlknwkrnowrknfwkrfnwlkfenw. So pathetic. Yeah! not to mention the satellite got its own firewall which BLOCK most of unsecured website! this is include BLOGGER. Then... How can I go for blogging????? But anyway, I used Office Word to jot down for each blog post, and I plan to upload/update it once I signed off from the ship as an another alternative.

Finally, the day has come, 11th Oct 2011, I finally able to sleep freely without any machineries ALARM. ha ha.. Sooo nice! eh.. now... wait.. why the hell this post title is ROBBERS? sigh.. yeah, now here come the part I want to share.

Just a day after I signed off, during lunch time, I went out with my dad to settle some bills and banking. 40mins later, I received a phone call from my sister telling me our house been robbed. Without wasting time, I call the police and head back to our home hoping nothing bad happens. But sadly, 40MINS was good enough for them to stole everything! EVERYTHING! and for my stuff only, I lost around RM 20,0000.00, and that is include my 3months old dslr 5D Mark II which I haven't had much time to play around since I had a tight schedule onboard. Laptop, ps3, bags, all precious item now gone, all my paperwork/data/journal/notes also gone forever.. what a big disaster.. and not to mention on other bedrooms.

I don't know how to said, I must endure this. My life isn't perfect and full of trials but I hope it will all be worth it.

p/s: We are taught that God brought us into existence, gave most of us the ability to choose how to spend our lives. We are told that God created us to test us, and we will be rewarded or punished as a result. And we are taught that God created us so that we would worship Him.

*sigh* In the end.. I end up buying the full-frame Canon 5D Mark II instead of Canon 7D which is what I aim for.. I love sightseeing so much! so I prefer to have a weather proof DSLR. Canon 7D is newer compare to Canon 5D Mark II, but 5D Mark II is best suited for landscape photography which is what I want. So, I went to the Echo Photo & Audio, a camera shop in Tsim Sha Shui, Hong Kong.

Although it's a small shop, this is one of the recommended shop by most pro photographer based on the survey I done on the google :) The shop located at Shop D, G/F, Hanyee Building, 19-21 Hankow Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon ( tel:23760478 ) and you can ask for Mr. Tommy or Mr. Yip.

I bought together with a Fujiyama DT-930R tripod, slim polarize filter, ND4 filter, UV filter, a 16gb flash card and the camera comes with EF 24-105mm lens. All of these cost me around RM XX,XXX.XX.. sigh.. This is the only thing I can't tell. It gives me a headache and stressed just because of my minor mistake which lead to a bigger one! *sigh* but anyway, Whats done is done, and you can not undo it!

Since I'm quite busy with my tight schedule.. I don't have much time to play around with my new girlfriend, 5D..

Sorry for the long silence! Work and travel have swamped my schedule leaving me with little time to do the blogging over the past months. It reminds me of unlucky day on the last post, June 4. The day I lost my precious cellphone in City of Knox, outer eastern suburb of Wantirna South in the city of Melbourne, Australia. To think that I lost it in that city, and FOUND it back after almost one month! plus, I found my cellphone at Little Collins Street, Melbourne City. (for malaysian, it's like Putrajaya to Kuala Lumpur)

Anyhow, I'm very grateful to the god that has given me another chance. and yes! I know.. things don't always turn out as we plan, as we go through turmoils, God will help us through the rough patches. I give thanks for mine...

When you know what you want, and you want it badly enough, you'll find a way to get it.

I did a survey of canon EOS 7D when I was in Australia last time. But only to find that the price there is so expensive compared to the price in Hong Kong... It's been extremely frustrating since I've planned it well to buy it when I get there(5th June). Most of the seller said the dslr cameras now in short supply. It's due to the Japan's massive earthquake. Hmm.. Now that my ship will go to HK on next Monday, so there is No way I'm going to miss it! :)

Bad day

That day, on early morning 4th June 2011.. When the ship sailed to the Melbourne, we planned to take out the Turbine Generator's cooling sea water pump out of the service and straight away overhaul it.

The pump can be consider big as the flow rate is around 250 cubic meter per hour(can fit a 2 adult men). So, as soon as the ship alongside at the Berth 4 West Swanson Dock, Port of Melbourne roughly around 2200hrs, we carried out the maintenance for the pump. Frankly speaking, 3 person is just enough for this job. But! the problem is.. with the boss.. The Chief Engineer.. he's just too afraid.. So, what he do..

He called everyone(engine department; 5 engineers, 3 crews) to work on the pump! So total of 9 people including himself..! we have already been working in engine room since 7 morning until night time arrival. Soon afterward we worked on the pump. In the end, we finished the job around 0430hrs, and later when we want to trial out the pump, another problems has occurred. ahhh! Just by typing this, it makes me stress, so better I skip this one.. heheh

I had planned with the 3rd Engineer to go out shore and wander around the city. So, we knocked off from the engine room at 7 morning and get ready for shore-leave. Here at the port is quite strict, you have to wait for terminal bus to pick you at a certain location and you can't blindly go and walk anywhere you want, otherwise, they will fine the ship. I called the bus and waited for 1 1/2 hour there, some more with the weather starting to winter.. Sigh.. then from the port to the Melbourne city, we took a cabs which cost us aus$40 plus $4 for talking with driver! lol.. what the heck?! sigh.. nevermind.. then we go to the crown casino to change the money and then we went to the Queen Victoria Market. This is the place you shouldn't miss. Everyone ends up at Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Market at some stage. With its huge range of souvenirs and great priced clothing, it’s a veritable visitor magnet. I actually had planned our walking route but the 3rd engineer walked really fast and blindly enter the street like he know everything.. (He think this is an amazing race or what?!) and thanks to him, we did get lost.

We went to Lonsdale Street, Swanston street, Bourke Street, Collins Street, Russell Street, Federation square and end up at the Queen Victoria Gardens, in front of the Vienna Arts Centre. Simply said, the city is filled with shopping delights. So whatever your interests, Melbourne has an attraction for you.

Then we took a taxi to go to Knox Shopping Centre which is quite far from the Melbourne city and it cost us aus$75(include $5 for talking.. darn!) the 3rd engineer is looking for some japanese sword there.. and just after we arrived, we wandered around the shopping centre and that's when the bad luck happened to me. I dropped my cell phone inside the taxi. I call the cabs company, but no hope. They ask me to report to the police. I walked for almost 30minutes to the Knox Police Station. They said not to worry as they can call my network service to block my number.. I said, "it's not the phone number that's important, it's the data, the contacts inside it what I care most." sigh.. I guess even they can't do anything about it.

Hmm.. that day, I lost about aus$600(including the cellphone $300, and taxi $171) and the important data + contacts inside the cellphone.. priceless! *sigh*

Sorry for only having a few photos uploaded, due to the limitation of the satellite signal. Currently I'm somewhere in the Philippine Sea, sailing to Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

The New Boss

Bad days happen to the best of us. Days where you just wake up in a really bad mood or while you're doing work (or something) has made you angry, sad, frustrated, disappointed, whatever. Let's just get straight to it. For me working for 24hrs straight or more is just a normal. But having a boss who is panic type of guy + scared to take risks + afraid + always want to clean his hand whenever a problem occurs (where he's the one in-charge) + bad management (don't know the work hour policy) + scared of surveyor! (whenever we had a survey) + he doesn't trust anyone!

Now.. If a boss is like that, what will happen to the people under him? I mean.. What the Hell??!

Wah, agak letih juga.. eh, bukan agak.. tapi, memang letih pun.. Lepas naik kapal 18april, kerja memang bertalu2 datang.. haha.. penat terkata, nasib baik la kapal tak masuk area middle east(arab), kalau tak, mendidih otak dibuatnya. Suhu dalam engine room kapal di kawasan asia tengah ni, sekitar 50-57 degree celcius, atmospheric pressure. Kalau nak senang faham, jalan saja 5-6 langkah keluar dari control room, peluh dah menitik2 satu badan macam lari marathon 10km.. huuu~

Sekarang ni, sepatutnya dah kena tido, tapi nak jugak bukak blog ni, nak sapu sikit sawang2.. haha.. takpe, mulai esok, kapal nine ni dah mula pasang wifi, so, boleh la main internet dekat tengah2 laut nanti.. wah.. memang sangat best.. hihi..

Okla, sebenarnya, nine tengah tunggu.. tunggu nak turun darat.. nanti sampai Melbourne 4 jun ni. Sekarang kapal baru keluar Hong Kong, menyesal tak turun darat tadi, sebab nine survey kamera dslr canon sini lagi murah dari australia.. tapi takpe la.. nanti sampai sana, nak turun survey pulak.. huhu, tak sabar nak main dengan kamera tu.. Canon Eos 7D.

InsyaAllah, harap2 ada la rezeki nak beli kamera ni 4jun nanti..

movies xabes lagi download, ps3 pulak xreti nak tutup, dok main je game memanjang.. haha... ingat nak study buku2 manual waktu mlm ni.. hmmm.. harapan je la yang tinggal.. wahh.. dah betul2 suntuk ni..! Aku xtau apa aku tengah buat sekarang.. (~_~')

dah tau suntuk, tapi xbergerak2 juga.. huhhhh~ 18 april, medical check-up kat singapore, dua minggu lps full blood test kt klinik presint 9, Total Cholestrol 5.2 mmol/L.. Wah, lagi 1 kejutan!! inilah akibat asik melantak lamb chop, beef steak time cuti2 ni. Harap2 nanti medical check-up ok la.. (T_T)

hmm.. ~~rasanye~~ kena start disiplinkan diri ni.. huuu~ serabut dibuatnye..

Well the decision has been made. I guess it's time for a New Challenge. But, this reminds me of a quote,

"anything worth having is worth waiting for"

heheh, it's just that I'm tired of waiting to see what's going to happen, so for now it's whatever happens,happens. Anyway, you can visit here to know the 'stressful situation' of me :p Carefree days?! and also Choosing a path. Although some tiny part of me feel a bit of regret. I've to admit, Company C and D offers are much better, but It's just a matter of time. If you hold your breath waiting for something, you will die of disappointment!! Sigh.. Whats done is done, and I can't undo it, so make it the past, and go forward. Ask for a decision to be made, I chose Company B offer.

But the deadline has passed. Actually, the manager keep contacting me everyday asking for a confirmation, up until to a certain point, I feel so stressed and I told him I'll give the answer on this Thursday(10th March). But, 4 days had passed, I still didn't give the answer and keep it silence. Then, on Tuesday 15th March, without feeling any guilty, I sent an email to him telling that I'm ready to join the ship.. lol, WTH, if I were him, I'd be mad already.. Then, I tried calling his office, but no answer. Then I called his cellphone, he reject the call. D'oh! he must be angry with me..! haha.. About an hour later, I sent an email, apologized to him. Luckily, I got a positive reply from the manager and also asking for my readiness to join the ship..

"Huhhh~ I feel so relieved"

Choosing a path

Alahai sakit kepala aku nak memikir mana satu aku nak pilih. Last post aku Carefree days?! ada 3 pilihan penting yang perlu decide secepat mungkin. Situasi aku sekarang.. tak.. motif aku sekarang, nak gain seatime untuk '2nd class marine engineer certificate of competency' a.k.a 2nd class CoC. Sesiapa yang xtahu juga, sila check no. 30 pada web ini, List of Professional Programs di situ, ada comparison professional courses.

Company offshore A yang aku kerja ni pun ok, memang antara company yang paling aku suka.. tapiiii~ Aku kena la capaikn dulu next target.. 2nd Class CoC.. Kapal dkt company nie, xde requirement utk aku smbg ambil 2nd Class CoC.. Jadi kena cari company lain.. Hah~ ini lah yang susah bila sponsor under JPA.. tapi, xpela, bersyukur jugak, xkena kerja kerajaan :P

Company B nie pulak dari Singapore, dari 3 Mac lepas dah calling2 aku soh join.. tgh nak cari org.. gaji nye kira okla.. average je.. aku siap buat bodoh je die call, DEADLINE pulak 10 Mac.. stress gila kot.. mana satu aku patut pilih.. company nie, kapal die besar2.. container ship.. aku pulak minat tanker.. haaa~

Company C nie pulak, tanker.. chemical tanker, company nie, mmg best, gaji pon lg best, kapal pon ok.. tapi, dari 7 Februari aku dah call opis kata nak standby.. sampai skrg xdapat call utk joining, kapal mereka xbyk pon, berapa belas je.. tapi crewing ambil worldwide. Org malaysia dia ambil sikit je.. Company ni jugak adalah company time aku praktikal dulu, opis dulu kat Malaysia, tapi dah bankrup tahun 2009, company singapore take over. So, chances utk aku join tuh sangat2 lah tipis.. huu~

Company D ni pulak, nama dah best.. dari Kuwait. Tanker pulak tuh.. memang aku minat, gaji ok kot.. crewing agent-nya ada di Malaysia, katanya ada vacancy, aku apply dari 13Feb, skrg ni, dia minta aku tunggu lagi, sbb company tu tengah review background aku.. Ditanya bila boleh confirm.. Dia pon xpasti.. adoi.. aku ni dah serik dah nk tunggu lama2 nie.. Takot jadi mcm dulu, yang dikejar tak dapat yang dikendong berciciran.

Nak diringkaskan lagi,

Company A: Bagus, tapi xsesuai buat masa ni.
Company B: Average, dan ada peluang, deadline hampir.
Company C: Sgt bagus, tapi perlu tunggu lebih lama.
Company D: Sgt bagus, perlu tunggu, dan masih tiada confirmation.

Kerja Kapal: Apa itu Certificate of Competency?

Kali ini aku nak cerita sedikit tentang level2 dalam bidang perkapalan, iaitu Certificate of Competency. Mungkin ramai yang xtahu, tentang level2 licensed nie.. Secara ringkas, Ia terbahagi kepada dua, iaitu DECK DEPARTMENT dan ENGINE DEPAERMENT. CoC adalah keperluan asas bagi mereka bagi mereka yang ingin berkhidmat dalam kedua2 department ini.

Jadi, selalu org akan bertanya, apakah kelulusan yang layak untuk kerja dikapal. e.g: saya ada diploma perakaunan.. saya ada degree in mechanical engineering layakkah utk memohon kerja di kapal? sebenarnya, selain dari bidang marin, lain2 kelulusan adalah tidak diterima utk kerja dalam mana2 department yg saya katakan tadi. Tetapi, bagi mereka yg memiliki mechanical degree, mereka boleh memohon program marine engineering bridging yg disediakan oleh ALAM. Lain2 bidang hendaklah bermula dari bawah dgn memohon program Diploma atau mana2 program yg ditawarkan ALAM dan RANACO.

Tetapi, sesiapa yg memiliki Bachelor Degree in Human Resource, Business Administration and Business Management. Layak memohon jawatan Ship Admin Officer.. gaji permulaannye, lebih kurang rm4500 keatas, depend on plying limit and the company.. heheh..

OK.. sekarang balik kpd topik asl, bawah ini saya akan senaraikan ranking Grade CoC yg di isu oleh Jabatan Laut Malaysia. Bermula ats -> kebawah.. So...

ENGINE DEPARTMENT

TRADE AREA LIMIT: UL (Unlimited Trade Voyage) juga dikenali sbg FG (Foreign Going)

1. Chief Engineer Officer of 3000kW or more UL (CLASS I FG)
2. Second Engineer Officer of 3000kW or more UL (CLASS II FG)
3. Officer in charge of Engineering Watch of 750kW or more UL (CLASS III FG)

Bawah group ni pulak, adalah,

TRADE AREA LIMIT: NC (Near Coastal)

1. Chief Engineer Officer of 3000kW or more NC
2. Second Engineer Officer of 3000kW or more NC
3. Chief Engineer Officer of between 500kW and 3000kW NC
4. Second Engineer Officer of between 500kW and 3000kW NC
5. Officer in charge of Engineering Watch of 750kW or more NC

dan group yg bawah sekali adalah,

TRADE AREA LIMIT: Domestic

1. Engineer Officer of less than 750kW Domestic and NC

Bagi sesiapa yg mengambil program Kadet di ALAM, mereka akan memiliki Licensed Officer in charge of Engineering Watch of 750kW or more UL (CLASS III FG). Bagi, kadet dari RANACO, UNIKL, saya xpasti.. heheh..

SILA LIHAT SENARAI INSTITUT MARITIM DI MALAYSIA

Oke, seperti yg anda lihat, CoC ini dipisahkan oleh Kapasiti Anda, Had Limit Kerja dan Had Limit Power.. Susah betul nk translate ke Malay, nampak pelik bile tukar ayat2 ni bahasa melayu. Senang cerita, contohnye dalam kes saya:

Officer in charge of Engineering Watch of 750kW or more UL (FG)

Kapasiti: Officer in charge of Engineering Watch
Limitation (power): 750kW or more (unlimited)
Plying Limit (Trade Area Limit): UL (Unlimited Trade Voyage)

Jadi target saya lps ni, nk upgrade licensed to Second Engineer Officer of 3000kW or more UL.
Utk mendapatkn Chief Engineer UL licensed, anda perlu bermula dari bawah dan lulus dlm peperiksaan Officer in charge of Engineering Watch.

Owh, terlupe nk cerita pasal DECK DEPARTMENT.. haha.. xpela.. lain kali je la.. :P ngantok pulak.. OK, apa yg saya terangkan diatas adalah diringkaskan.. err.. nk bg senang paham je.. Klu ada silap dan salah, minta maaf la ya? :) klu ade ape2 nak tanya, sila tanya.. klu boleh jwb, aku jwb..

Carefree days?!

How long has it been? So busy working onboard, finally able to get some rest after signing off from M.V Setia Cekal on 28th Jan 2011.. One month has now passed, so since I'm a freelancer, guess I need to start looking for the company to join or SHOULD I just stick to the old one????! darn.. Again, having to make a very hard decision right now, its really stress me out.

I love challenging work, getting onto a new type of ship, gaining a new/more experience, meeting new people, and yes! of course, earning more for a better life..! :p

Should I stick with the offshore?!

Go experience a new type of ship?!

Just go back joining the tanker ship?!

ahh~ Actually I would like to tell more detail about my situation, but typing in the dark, at 0055hrs, Now, I have another real problem with mosquitoes biting me.. (T_T)

OK, I surrender, let's call it a day, shall we? maybe I need to go to another room *sigh*

Huargghhh~!

I wish I could return to the carefree days of my past.

p/s: funny how when you are a kid, you dream of your future and when you are an adult, you dream of going back to when you were a kid :)

It's a very long.. long break for me.. having some problems since i left my company(X), I finally manage to join another company(Z), which is better than the last one. hehe, guess I cant just talk freely here due to the safety reason. Enough for me to said, "I'VE LEARNED MY LESSON and I am very thankful for that". Never trust anyone, except your love one..! :)

Now, It's time to built again what is lost.

I do not like my state of mind. I am not sick, I am not well. In real life you are going to make mistakes, you're going to fall down, but it's the getting up that counts. Me? it feels like I'm falling deep down and.. and.. keep trying to climb back.. to continue to move forward.. But it feels hard. and yes, Life is Hard.

Inside my mind?

My past is risking my future.

You can't go back and manipulate things to the way you wanted them to happen.

and I have learned more from my mistakes than from my successes. This isn't good or bad. It's just the way of things. Nothing stays the same. I gotta take some chances, and I know I gotta risk losing it all and It's hard to accept, but what can I do? I can't change the past.

Oh Allah, please strengthen me, support me and help me, and bless me in my sight, in my hearing, in my soul, in my body, in my conduct; bless me in my life, in my family,

in my work; accept my good deeds.
