In these photos we are doing a crown reduction to a mature maple tree. A co-dominate split in the trunk and a few cavities in the larger branches warranted a need for action.

When is the best time to trim trees?

This is one of the most asked questions us arborists deal with. The answer is simple… When the tree is dormant. Or otherwise when the leaves fall off. This time adds the least amount of stress to the tree when it is trimmed. And more importantly, if your tree is one that is more susectipical towards fungal diseases, then fall/winter would be the ideal time.

Even trees that don’t fall ill towards a fungus have a better time with dormant trimming than during the growing season. This way the tree has time to heal and recover before any bugs start in on it. Bugs do tend to go after stressed trees. And trimming, though needed, is a stressor.

Tree removal/ relocation of indeginous species

At this site we were called in by one of our regular landscaping contractors. It wasn’t one of our most desirable cities to work in with the distance or traffic involved. The job called for 3 spruce removals and one rather large silver maple. I never saw this little critter leave the tree but we did find him next to house after the tree was down. I’ve only seen this type of animal in the twin cities once before when we were working for sears auto imports. If you can’t tell by the picture it’s a flying squirrel.

Tree Removal/Lot Clearing in Shakopee, MN

Here’s one of the types of jobs we are called in for. New construction lot clearing. This particular lot has been cleared before but over the years everything and more grew back. Since this lot is a golf course lot our client showed a little concern about stray golf balls. We decided it best to leave some of the trees closest to the nearest tee and a nice tree line next to the next door neighbor.

Storm Damage Off Lake Minnetonka in Orono, MN

At this particular site, our good friends at Yardscapes Inc. received a call from one of their clients. He was out of town and his gardener called worried about all the plantings he is paid to look after. The neighbor’s basswood and maple broke due to one of our storms. With proper roping techniques we were able to prevent any more damage from happening.

Tree on house Eagan, MN

At this particular job we observed a cottonwood tree uprooted and landed on our client’s house. It’s difficult to see but there is a deck under it. The deck wasn’t harmed in the fall. And the deck wasn’t harmed in our removal. This is where our professionalism shows true.

Tree stump removal Lakeville, MN

About 10 to 20 percent of our calls are for stumps or brush piles. These jobs require only one to two men to take care of. I was called out to the job site for a pine/spruce stump. And rarely but sometimes I show up right when the sprinklers are on. Normally we don’t like to drive our equipment on wet lawns in case of lawn damage but the distance I had to go was only 3 to 5 feet long.

At this job, our client has several mature Basswood trees located close to his deck. We were called in to remove half of one of those trees. I like this posting because it shows that we are able to remove roughly a 3,000 pound tree over a deck and house without doing any damage.
