This new UPI AutoPay feature can be used for expenses that are recurring like mobile bills, mutual funds, and various loan payments, EMI payments, insurance, electricity bills, paying for transit/metro payments, entertainment/ OTT subscriptions, and various other online transactions.

The UPI AutoPay feature will basically auto-debit the accounts for the regular payments that actually have been pre-selected by the customers. Eligible UPI-enabled applications will now have a ‘Mandate' section, all the way through which the customers can actually create, approve, pause, modify as well as revoke auto-debit mandate. NPCI notes that mandates can be set for one-time, daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and the yearly plan as well. Google said on Monday that it plans to invest $10 billion in India in the next five to seven years as the search giant looks to help accelerate the adoption of digital services in the key overseas market.

Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google, today unveiled Google for India Digitization Fund through which the company will be making investments in the country.

We’ll do this through a mix of equity investments, partnerships, and operational, infrastructure, and ecosystem investments. This is a reflection of our confidence in the future of India and its digital economy, he said via video conference at the company’s annual event focused on India.

Investments will focus on four areas:

First, enabling affordable access and information for every Indian in their own language, whether it’s Hindi, Tamil, Punjabi or any other
Second, building new products and services that are deeply relevant to India’s unique needs
Third, empowering businesses as they continue or embark on their digital transformation
Fourth, leveraging technology and AI for social good, in areas like health, education, and agriculture

India is a key overseas market for Google, where a range of its products and services including Search, YouTube, and Android have made inroads with much of the entire online population.

Another incident of Android apps harming users by injecting malware on their smartphones has come to light. According to researchers at Check Point, as many as 11 apps were identified which were infected with the notorious Joker malware. Google has been tracking these apps since 2017 and has finally removed them from its Play Store.

Check Point researchers discovered a new variant of the Joker malware that was present inside legitimate apps. Android users who may have any of these apps installed should get them removed immediately.

According to the researchers, these apps were subscribing to premium services on behalf of users, without their knowledge. Check Point added that despite Google Play’s security features, the Joker malware is still very tricky to detect. And it may very well make it back to the Play Store.

Earlier this year, Google released a report where it said that it had detected and removed 1,700 malicious “Bread” apps from the Play Store. These Bread apps are ones with Joker malware. Google said that these apps were removed even before users could download it.

Last week, Google had removed 25 apps from its Play Store that were allegedly stealing your data. The problem was identified by French cyber-security firm Evina, which claimed that these apps stole the Facebook credentials of users. The company even mentioned that by the time they were actually taken down, these 25 applications were downloaded some 2.34 million times in total.

All these apps come with different names but served the same purpose. Some were step counters, image editors, video editing apps, others were wallpaper apps, flashlight applications, file managers, and mobile games.

Flipkart Invests $35 Million in Indian Fashion Brand to Target Youth

Flipkart, which basically competes with Amazon in India, is now doubling down in the fashion area where it has established a new clear lead.

On Thursday, the Flipkart Group announced it had invested $35 million in Arvind Fashions for a significant minority stake in one the decades-old Indian firm’s subsidiaries as the Walmart -owned firm looks to tighten its grip on fashion apparels in the world’s second-largest internet market.

Through acquisition of Myntra and Jabong over the years, Flipkart has already established dominance in India’s fashion e-commerce market. The company said today it was acquiring a stake in Arvind Fashions Arvind Youth Brands, which operates the Flying Machine brand in India.

The two companies said the new investment strengthens their partnership as they look to serve demands and needs of the “fashion-conscious youth” in India. Arvind Fashions began selling items on Flipkart six years ago.

91-year-old Arvind Fashions runs of the nation’s largest fashion brands, and also manufactures and carries apparels of international brands including Polo Assn, Arrow, GAP, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Aeropostale, the Children’s Place and Ed Hardy among other local and international firms.

The investment comes at a time when both Flipkart and Amazon have been expanding their private labels ecosystem in India. And by courting Arvind Fashions, Flipkart could look to replicate a similar strategy in the fashion space. The Indian e-commerce market for fashion products was worth $7 billion last year, research firm Forrester told the reporters.

Flying Machine is a brand that is known in households across India, popular with the youth and synonymous with value and style. Through this investment, we look forward to partnering with the team at Arvind Youth Brands to continue to grow the market for its portfolio of products and enhance the strong brand equity that has been built over the last few decades, said Kalyan Krishnamurthy, chief executive officer of Flipkart Group, in a statement.

The partnership with the Flipkart Group is aimed at helping Arvind Fashions accelerate its online growth strategy said J. Suresh, managing director, and chief executive of Arvind Fashions.

Given the strong existing relationship with the Flipkart Group, and their presence in online fashion, it was an obvious choice for us to enter into this engagement through which Flipkart and Myntra will be our preferred online partner for the Flying Machine brand, while we continue to grow our offline sales through channels like exclusive brand stores, department stores, and multi-brand stores, he said in a statement.

OnePlus Nord will launch on July 21, the Chinese smartphone maker confirmed on Tuesday. The launch date earlier leaked via an Amazon banner on Monday. OnePlus also revealed that India's pre-orders of the phone will open on July 15 via Amazon, and the interested consumers will have to pay Rs. 499 to book the upcoming smartphone. For this amount, they will receive a gift box containing limited-edition merchandise from OnePlus.

OnePlus Nord is a highly anticipated smartphone from OnePlus that will take the company back to its roots. OnePlus' claim to fame used to be its value-for-money flagship killer phones but over the last two years, the company has focussed more on putting new and exciting features in its smartphones than worrying about the price tag. OnePlus Nord is going to be a relatively-affordable phone and its price will be under 500$. Facebook: Once Again Sharing User Data Wrongly

Facebook has admitted that a problem with the system basically caused it to share the user data with 5,000 developers after the inactivity of 90 days. In the year 2018, Facebook announced that it would automatically prevent applications using Facebook Login from getting the data of users if the respective user has not used the particular application in the last 90 days. However, as per the post on the news page of Facebook, around 5,000 developers continued to receive the data and information even though the users had been completely inactive for 90 days. The social networking giant Facebook states that it discovered this problem recently and had fixed it the next day. Facebook did not say how many users were affected by this particular lapse.

Like Sign in With Google or Apple Login, Facebook Login allowed application developers to get users to sign up without basically having to create a new and fresh account - and it also gave the app developers access to some information and data from Facebook. Since this affects third party applications, it is not clear what info or data precisely was being accessed, or how many of the users were affected by this.

In a recent post on Facebook, Konstantinos Papamiltiadis, VP of the Platform Partnerships at the social network Facebook, wrote that in some instances applications continued to receive the data that people had previously approved, even if it appeared they hadn't used the application in the last 90 days. This 90-day lockout rule was basically introduced back in 2018 as a means to protect the privacy of users and data when users use Facebook to sign in to other applications. Papamiltiadis stated that Facebook estimates about 5,000 developers continued to receive user data and information like language settings or user gender after the 90 days of the inactivity.

We have not seen evidence that this problem resulted in sharing the data or information that was inconsistent with the permissions that people gave when they basically logged in using Facebook, Papamiltiadis added and said that the problem was fixed the day after it was actually found and that the social media giant will now continue to investigate and prioritize the transparency around any major updates.

Facebook did not completely clarify what all the information and user data was accessed by the app developers but it did give a clear example of a case where this problem could have caused unauthorized sharing of the info and the user data. It stated that this could basically happen if someone used a fitness application to invite their friends from their hometown to a workout, but we (at Facebook) did not recognize that some of their friends had been completely inactive for many months.

Papamiltiadis said that new DeveloperPolicies and Platform Terms have been introduced that limit the information and the data that developers can share with third parties without clear consent from the people.

Facebook says the new terms and policies will go into effect on August 31, 2020.

On Sunday, the social juggernaut announced it had partnered with the Central Board of Secondary Education, a government body that oversees education in private and public schools in India, to launch a certified curriculum on digital safety and online well-being, and augmented reality for students and educators.

Through these subjects, Facebook and CBSE aim to prepare secondary school students for current and emerging jobs, and help them develop skills to safely browse the internet, make that are well informed, and think about their own mental health, they said.

Facebook said that it will provide these training in various phases. In the first phase, more than 10,000 teachers will be trained; in the second, they will coach 30,000 students. In his LinkedIn post, Prime Minister Modi wrote, Nowadays, we are actually seeing quite a huge interest and passion among the tech and start-up ecosystem to innovate, promote and develop homegrown applications. Today, when the entire country is basically working towards creating an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, it is a very good opportunity to give right direction to their efforts, the impetus to their hard-work and mentorship to their amazing talent to evolve Applications which can actually satisfy our market as well as compete with the entire world.

He wrote that this particular challenge would run in two different tracks - promotion of existing applications and development of new applications.

Track-01 will actually work in mission mode for identifying good quality Applications for the leader-board and will be completed in around a month and so.
The track-02 initiative will basically work to help create brand new champions in India by providing the support in incubation, prototyping, ideation, and roll out along with access to the market, he wrote in the post.

The outcome of this particular challenge will be to give quite better visibility and clarity to existing Applications to achieve their specific goals, and to create technical products to find the solutions to tech conundrums along with the help of the mentorship, tech guidance and support during the entire life-cycle, he wrote.

PM Modi in his post said that there is marvelous scope among these particular sectors for new applications that solve specific problems for India and the entire world.

Can we basically think of making traditional Indian games much more popular via Applications? Can we develop Applications with smart and targeted access to the right age group for gaming, learning, etc? Can we develop gaming applications for people in rehabilitation or getting proper counseling to help them in their specific journey? There are many such amazing questions and technology alone can only give the answers in a creative manner, said Prime Minister Modi.

Recently, the Indian government has banned 59 mobile applications linked to China including UC Browser, Helo, TikTok, YouCam makeup, and Mi Community in the view of the information available that they are basically engaged in activities which are prejudicial to integrity and sovereignty and defense of the nation.

Almost all the applications banned on Monday have some privileged Chinese interest and the majority have a parent Chinese organizations.

The ban came in India amid border tensions with China in the Eastern Ladakh.
