Trotting Along

This week I went for a refreshing run through a scenic country park which is very local to me and also very beautiful, the ideal place to stretch my legs and push myself a little with uneven terrain, hills and slopes.

The strange thing about outdoor running, the thing that makes me love it so much, is that I can push myself to the limits physically and yet completely relax mentally amidst the peaceful, idyllic surroundings.

Pounding the pavements is very rewarding too but brisk open-air exercise in natural areas of outstanding merit, surrounded by endless trees -and hardly any people- lends of a sense of harmony and deep satisfaction to the days exertions.

On reflection, my one small regret is that I tend to conclude my run when I feel fatigued and merely leave it at that whereas I really ought to take a breather, a short spell of walking to recuperate, before taking off again and covering a bit more ground before returning home.

Running for me is aimed at endurance over speed, the distance travelled being far more meaningful than the time taken to achieve it and although I'm still only a beginner with a lot to learn, my ambition is to one day be able to just run and run; I might not be very fleet-of-foot but I'm nothing if not steady.

Mistress Muscles

In an ideal world my very own personal trainer would be a merciless amazon of a woman who took no prisoners and tolerated no nonsense. She would be lean, mean, tight and toned, out-of-your-league kind of beautiful and relentlessly efficient like a well-oiled machine.

She would stretch every sinew, extract every drop of sweat, push my laboring body to breaking point and then impassively insist on more.

Actually, now that I come to think of it, I do rather like the idea of a rather assertive fox in a skin-tight leotard making endless demands of me and never settling for anything less than wholehearted, unconditional satisfaction...who on earth wouldn't?

The stronger and more muscled I became the better I would be able to serve her and the more vigorously I might meet her unforgiving needs, my frosty-hearted, iron-fisted queen of the fitness regime.

A veritable vixen like that would soon lick me into shape and have my heart-rate monitor going into meltdown as she stood over me, hands on hips and a sadistic cruelty on her lips, requiring of me that no matter how much I gave, I could always give just that little bit more.

Bikini Body Season

There are two windows of desperation in the modern calender where women of all ages fly into a mild state of panic upon having taken a good long look at themselves and, as is often the case in their own private opinions, found themselves sadly wanting.

The first is, of course, at the conclusion of the Christmas holidays when stock has been taken of all those extra pounds mysteriously gained throughout the festivities and the second follows in late spring with the imminent arrival of summer.

The hot weather is something that we all look forward to every year but it also means that sooner or later we'll have to expose our bodies to all and sundry on the beach, knowing that the eyes of strangers will be lingering over every ounce of reluctantly revealed flesh.

Your beach body will not only be noticed and admired, it will also be appraised and assessed by people who have no business placing their gaze in such hitherto private areas, so the urgency in attaining the perfect bikini body at this time of year becomes a pressing matter of great urgency.

The pride and satisfaction at having achieved her personal objective shines out across the golden sands as the woman confident in her curves draws the admiring attention of all, men and women alike, happily thinking to herself that if they wish to contemplate her beauty then all her effort has made the act of looking well worth their while.

On The Run

I've run more in the last couple of months than I have in the past thirty years, which admittedly isn't saying much, but I finally forced myself out of the armchair to put one foot in front of the other in the name of exercise...and I'm actually enjoying it enormously.

I do an hours swimming every week and a few weights most days but it is the thought of going for a run that really captures my imagination until it's almost an overwhelming urge that cannot be denied.

The likes of Mo Farah and Usain Bolt need lose no sleep over my unprecedented burst of recent activity but that is not my intention as I steadily pound the pavements, rather I seek only to compete with myself, gradually extending the distance covered before my body demands that I stop.

My personal best to date stands at 3km and my aim is to better this just a little every month and each milestone will secretly be as rewarding to me as an Olympic Gold; it's a challenge that spurs me onwards from week to week.

My only shadow of regret in all this is that I didn't start running much earlier, making me wonder what sort of results might have been achieved had I run my way through my twenties or thirties...

It's never too late to start though and whatever drives or inspires you, one thing that I can say without doubt is that you'll never regret going for a run no matter how daunting it may seem at the beginning, the post-run sense of achievement and exhilaration is immense even for a modest old trudger like myself.

Running Up That Hill

Once you've been bitten by the fitness bug all sorts of personal changes manifest themselves and not only in examples like a leaner physique or rippling muscles nor even the general sense of healthy well-being either; I believe that the inspirational or supportive aspects needs a mention too.

Whereas I would grudgingly admire someone who aspired to any great levels of fitness I would also roll my eyes as they became impassioned about super foods, calorie burning and pain barriers but changing my lifestyle has also made a great change in my attitude.

I now want to praise and encourage anybody who is making the effort, no matter how insignificant they might believe their own accomplishments to be, I want to remind them that even a little exercise is so much more than the person on the couch did.

We don't have to become all-conquering Olympians, just slightly better versions of ourselves, something that can be best achieved with a quiet determination, faith in ourselves and the fortifying support of those around us.

We'll have despairing moments when seeing the finished article sauntering by all toned and Godlike, putting our own achievements to shame and making us feel that we're wasting our time but stay on the right track and eventually we will reach a place that was almost unthinkable just a few short months earlier.

Having seen the light at the start of the year, I have now become such a devotee of the healthy lifestyle that I only just stop short of crossing myself whenever anybody so much as mentions fast food, takeaways or cakes.

Repenting my slothful, slovenly old ways with a vengeance, my personal road-to-Damascus moment has left me vowing to shun each new temptation and every calorie-packed fat-trap that life may throw my way.

A veritable evangelist of the dining table, you might say.

Where once Satan lured me onto the treacherous path of lazy convenience food, saturated fat and sugar-coated sweeties, I now stick righteously to the straight and narrow, singing the praises of healthy eating, fresh produce and regular exercise.

I have already reached my target weight and recommended BMI, now aspiring to increase my fitness with a steady zeal tempered only by a sensible moderation, an attainable goal that will reap its own rewards, God willing.

So bring me puddings and pastries no more but rather delight me with something fresh and energising instead, something that invigorates the flesh and illuminates the soul, something worthy of a good old-fashioned, straight from the heart Hallelujah!

How joyously we watch the graceful and effortlessly dainty Prima Ballerina as she pirouettes her charming way across the stage, a mythical little fairy sprung to life and made real before our very eyes.

Blessing us with a captivating performance in satin slippers and tights, her frill adorned sleekness leaves us bewitched and beguiled: a perky princess that delicately twirls her winsome way into our hearts, coquettishly capturing our dreams.

We collectively gasp with wondrous delight as she artfully points a toe skywards and springs like the most nimble of gazelles, making us marvel at all that she does and all that she is.

Men in general seem to be ever so slightly afraid of women who possess strength of character or a forceful nature and she who can additionally wield physical might must therefore be the most intimidating creature imaginable in their eyes.

While such imposing females are seen as an ominous threat to sacred masculinity other men, myself among them, often revere such dominant examples of athletic feminine power as the rightfully natural order of things and I'm not afraid to admit it.

There's nothing like a gutsy girl, a defiantly unyielding woman with blazing fire in her belly and a backbone of solid steel.

The very thought of being pinned down and subjected to such a commanding woman's will presents itself as a terrifying nightmare to some men, a gloriously thrilling fantasy to others.

In my opinion, intellectual potency and bodily muscle in no way detract from the ideal female allure but rather increase it, amplifying the assertive image to an enthralling degree and sending a thrill of awe down the spines of mild-mannered, lily-livered admirers such as I.

I've been reading a lot lately on all manner of things related to healthy living and have thought a lot about nuts in particular and it seems that grabbing a handful of nuts is the perfect way to start your day...which is precisely what I've been telling people for years.

In fact, a couple of nuts popped into the mouth at any time of day will always prove highly satisfactory and a golden opportunity to do so should never be missed.

There is endless goodness to be had in sampling nuts of all shapes and sizes: big nuts, small nuts, smooth nuts, wrinkly nuts...whatever takes your fancy so enjoy your flavoursome treat but whatever you do, please don't crush them.

Simply hold out the palm of your hand and treat yourself to a generous helping, bursting with flavour and always sweetly moreish...you'll be so glad that you succumbed to this highly beneficial and satisfying little temptation.

I will always be more than happy to share the rich benefits of my naturally bounteous nuts with you at any hour of day or night so make it a priority to grab a sweet, nutty handful today.

Mutton Dressed As Lamb

I'm not so sure that I agree whenever someone unkindly refers to a woman of a certain age as being Mutton dressed as lamb because a stylish and well presented bit of mutton can be every bit as tasty as even the most tender of spring lambs.

I've always held the view that if a woman's got it then she should most definitely flaunt it and believe me, many a more mature woman has undeniably still got it.

The mutton in question is not so much pretending to be lamb but is rather playing them at their own game...and very often winning too.

Is the muttered criticism from other females perhaps due to their wishing that they too were bold enough to dress so provocatively and seize the attention with such immodest flair?

Confidence, maturity and panache are some of the most alluring feminine attributes so it is little wonder our fine specimens of mutton continue to court male ardour while their rivals despairingly fade away without notice or mention.

The younger girls merrily flaunt themselves, proudly displaying their conspicuous wares but a more seasoned campaigner can also assure you of an added substance and savvy beneath all the glittering sparkle and gloss.

Gym Bunny Jungle

Up until now the only form of working out that I've ever done has been working out just how those girls down at the gym manage to squeeze themselves into those tight little shorts and almost indecent leotards of theirs.

The mere sight of those glistening lycra-clad bodies desperately straining to escape their confines is enough to give me palpitations and bathe my flesh in a hot steamy sweat which positively boils the calories away.

Entering the gym bunny jungle and without touching a single piece of apparatus my heart is already pumping, my legs already trembling, my blood pressure soaring...and before too long I need to sit down and take a quick breather.

The ravishing gym bunnies gasp and grunt with their heaving exertions, working themselves into a vibrant lather, covered in a fine sheen of glory as I witness these living images of good health and bodily perfection with a growing awe and quivering admiration.

After a little while watching those lean, mean, thrilling machines, I slink away from their celestial presence feeling wholly unworthy of such mouthwatering magnificence yet still utterly exhilerated after observing their tirelessly mesmerising activities.

The Swimming Baths

Aspiring to live the healthy life is one thing and nothing could be better than regular swimming sessions at the local pool but managing to impress the assembled throng of eye-candy on such invigorating jaunts remains sadly beyond me.

As the waistline decreases (thanks to careful eating combined with a modest exercise regime) the problem of sucking in my belly to best show off my masculine physique becomes less of an issue and it's tempting to imagine that I might yet catch the eye of some toned, bikini-clad beauty.

My unfortunate downfall reveals itself the very moment I enter the water and proceed to display all the aquatic skills of a floundering buffalo, swallowing half the contents of the pool as I endeavour to master the breaststroke or front crawl, my lamentable technique resembling that of a torpedoed walrus.

The looks that I am attracting from the afforementioned eye-candy is a worrying combination of bemusement and concern as they try to decide whether I naturally swim in that strange fashion or am actually suffering some kind of disastrous seizure.

That said, I am finding the entire experience very enjoyable and rewarding as my breathless gasps become more infrequent and my sense of well-being steadily increases, so it is not completely beyond the realms of possibility that one day my doggy-paddle will be the envy of the pool and that I might yet bask in the adoration of those beguiling, chlorine-scented bikini babes.

She so adeptly displays those silky skills of hers as she gently caresses the next morsel of fresh fruit with her ruby lips, tenderly kissing and artfully persuading its sweet ripeness into her waiting mouth, not for a second taking her eyes from my own nor pausing to wipe away the juice that bountifully runs so luscious and free.

She is not merely engaged in the simple act of eating, she is giving a personal performance in the fine art of delicious naughtiness; nibbling on a grape, biting on a strawberry, sucking on a plum...

It really is an honour to simply sit and watch, the seductive ceremony of the fruit-basket proving enough to drive a man beyond the edge of sanity although this is all, of course, a mere preamble to the main event, a self-written passion play which she is fond of calling The Virgin & The Vegetables.

Country folk have always kept their traditional customs but i have always adhered to my own set of principles, strange as they might seem to the uninitiated and the spring equinox provides a perfect example of this.

The advent of spring has nothing whatsoever to do with daffodils, budding plants or rising sap but is all about shortening skirts, skimpier tops and plunging necklines.

One glance at the springtime washing-line is sufficient to show that those ghastly old winter drawers have been seasonally succeeded by slinkier, perhaps kinkier, items of intimate attire...I like to call it The science of old wives' tails.

Paying careful attention to the average housewife's undercarriage has always proved a revelation and this is just as true where the ever changing seasons are concerned.

The lengthening days, the gentle rise in temperature and the female body clock all combine to determine a day when enticement and allure again take precedence over cosy comfort and warmth, providing a spring in the step leading to an extra wiggle in the rump.

It is all just as I said, you see, nothing says springtime quite so much as a bright, sunny morning spent observing those charming, bewitching old wives' tails.

A Gobbler's Guide

The latest rumpus about horse meat infiltrating our food chain begs the very pertinent question Do you know what you're putting in your mouth?

Have you ever wrapped your hungry lips around something appetisingly meaty expecting a truly beefy delight only to discover that it was something more than you would wish to chew?

Perhaps you are very particular about what is permitted to enter your mouth but even the very best of us has swallowed something they shouldn't from time to time.

Satisfying your immediate craving is all very well but gobbling down an inappropriate meat is liable to leave a nasty taste in the mouth and quite possibly a dodgy tummy too.

Gone are the days when you knew the local butcher so well that you trusted his meat implicitly and were perfectly happy to gulp down whatever he offered you, safe in the knowledge that your complete satisfaction was his only desire.

The lesson is there for us all that we ought to take great care of what portion we accept as there are unscrupulous folk about who would slip you something quite unsavoury given half a chance: it's always best to look before you lick and even better to check before you chomp.

Kitten On A Mission

She'd been watching her weight so closely for so long, quietly determined to attain the perfect figure she so desperately desired, working out tirelessly to achieve her goal, steadfastly sticking only to that which was good and healthy because this time she was a girl on a mission.

Buying a black latex catsuit two sizes too small was a great idea and a huge incentive, every night he watched with great fascination and increasing desire as her efforts to squeeze into the unforgiving outfit gradually became progressively more successful until her breathtaking day of triumph finally arrived.

Proudly strutting across the bedroom, she posed provocatively, prowling like a predatory panther and gleefully flaunting her magnificent new body which demanded nothing less than his outright admiration.

As an onlooking guest at the wedding of an elderly gentleman and his perky young fiance, my prevailing thought was that his funeral would very soon follow the honeymoon and also that no-one at all could blame him for making hay while the sun still shone.

Among the menfolk present there was an air of lustful envy at a man so advanced in years romantically coming to grips with such a fresh young thing, the inherent risk of heart failure being mentioned more than once in discreetly hushed tones...accompanied by a knowing look, of course.

The groom himself wore an expectant smile as he gazed upon his frisky little bride-to-be perfectly happy to face the supposedly hazardous prospect ahead and obviously champing at the bit to get cracking.

Perhaps his swansong would last a month or more and perhaps the wedding night would see him off but whichever was the case he fully intended to enjoy every second remaining to him for he had long held the view that pretty young women were wasted on foolish young men.

If her enthusiastic lovemaking might actually finish him off then so be it, he was keen to go out with all guns blazing and besides, he could honestly imagine no finer nor more thrilling way to end his days than riding off into the sunset in truly glorious style.

It's high time that I paid tribute to the greatest double act in history, a breathtaking pairing that never fails to astound us with their awesome impact upon our lives and who will always command a special place in our hearts, namely that legendary duo: stockings and suspenders.

The mere mention of their names quickens the blood, setting the pulse racing and if you doubt my words on this matter then simply think of your favourite female crush...then think of them again wearing stockings and suspenders.

Point proved, case dismissed.

When an amorous woman is feeling fruity and frisky, wishing to make the evening a very special night to remember both for herself and her lucky partner, the first things she reaches for are her all-conquering, irresistibly provocative stockings and suspenders because she knows full well that they never, ever fail.

Just look for them and you'll soon see them, cast your eyes about you and there they are, that ever popular and precious species fondly known to us all as The Glamorous Grannies.

Much beloved for their worldly-wise wisdom, their generous curves and unashamed willingness to flirt at every opportunity, we rightly revere these dear madams as nothing less than a cut above those of lesser years and inferior experience.

I don't really care how many miles they might have on the clock because I'm usually too busy being bowled over by their classic looks, enduring attractiveness and a distinct lack of self-consciousness that younger models can only dream of.

Glamorous grannies know better than most that life is for the living and that one must take one's opportunities whenever they present themselves and most of all they know the ways of the world inside out and aren't afraid to dive in with both feet or seize the day with both hands.

Those extra few wrinkles tell you that they've been around the block enough times to pick up more than a few handy tips and tricks along the way and if you ask very nicely they might just pass along some golden little lessons to you, too...granny knows best, after all.

I have grown obsessed by an enigmatic madam and can never drive her playfully mocking image from my mind no matter how I try, her taunting image haunting my waking and dreaming hours alike with merciless, teasing visions.

They say that The first bite is with the eye which is very true and not only where one's dinner is concerned because the very same rule also applies to matters of physical attraction and desire, the appetite needs to be whetted before the feast itself can begin.

It's all about tasteful presentation, of course, a vibrant imagination and a little artistic flair can work wonders and provide a visual delight fully worthy of the deepest admiration and closest attention.

Sometimes, though, the effect is so breathtaking and impressive that it almost feels a shame to spoil proceedings by doing anything beyond simply gazing in silent adoration, there being much merit indeed by just letting the hungry eye drink it's fill of such provocative temptation.

Anticipation is often tastier than the dish itself, often more fulfilling too when one considers the matter, in which case, the feast is never actually consumed and the pleasure lies entirely in the tantalising prospect of what one might enjoy if one so wished.

The steady and prolonged contemplation of such a mouth-watering vision is a great pleasure, lingering over every last teasing morsel and committing these hushed moments to lifelong memory before the idolatrous homage is finally concluded and I am at last able to take that first bite.
