Brief Description: The Neighborhood Pastor is the chief shepherd and spiritual leader for his parish church. He is primarily responsible for the spiritual health of the people in his congregation and the mission of seeing those in his parish who do not know Jesus become His passionately engaged followers.

Tasks:

Care for the people of your neighborhood church

• Oversee the process of integrating people into the life and mission of the church
• Follow up with new believers
• Be available to your congregants for pastoral counseling
• Equip your congregants through short courses (e.g., discover and develop your spiritual gifts, classes on theology, the Trinity Grace Church freedom ministry, etc.)
• Raise up and lead parish elders who will help shepherd the people of your congregation and provide you with valuable encouragement and accountability

Assume spiritual responsibility for your neighborhood

• Oversee the community-based discipleship taking place in your church (e.g., lifegroups, missional communities, etc.)
• Lead the (lay) Leadership Community for your neighborhood church (e.g., identifying and equipping emerging leaders, ongoing coaching and development)
• Facilitate justice, serving and missional projects in the neighborhood
• Spend a substantial part of your week in the neighborhood praying for your church and community

Oversee the weekend gatherings and neighborhood staff team

• Be the primary communicator/teaching pastor for your neighborhood church
• Take responsibility for casting vision for your parish church and making sure the church does not experience mission drift
• Communicate stories of transformation to your congregation and TGC as a whole
• Coach and lead the neighborhood staff team (i.e., worship, kids’ ministry, operations, administrator, etc.)
• With or through the Neighborhood Worship Pastor, oversee the weekly worship gatherings (i.e., planning, setup/teardown, kids’ ministry, prayer before and after the service, coffee hour, worship, and teaching)

Perform necessary administrative tasks

• Develop and manage the parish church budget taking primary responsibility for stewarding the resources of your parish
• Continuously oversee finances with help from the Executive Pastor
• (Through your staff) Maintain website and other communication channels for the local body and communicate well with broader TGC body

Contribute to Trinity Grace Church as a whole

• Coordinate with Pastoral Team and with the greater church body to maintain unity and steward the momentum of the movement
• Lead citywide worship gatherings and special church wide services from the liturgical calendar (e.g. Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday) as needed along with the rest of the pastoral team
• Help plan and lead annual church wide leadership community retreat
• Partner with and support new TGC church planters
• Preach as deemed helpful in other parishes
• Other counseling functions as needed (e.g., marital and pre-marital counseling, etc.)

• You serve humbly and graciously, submitting yourself to the your local elders, the Pastoral Team, and in all things to Christ who is the Head of the church.
• You honor the TGC Staff Covenant.
• You cultivate intimacy with Jesus in your own heart so that your ministry is a Spirit-filled overflow.
• You model a godly life and pursue the way of Jesus in your own life and the life of your family (i.e., actually follow Jesus, don’t just talk to people about it).
• You give a report from your parish to the pastors and elders three times per year so we can support, encourage, and pray for your ministry in a focused way.
• You laugh a lot.
• You honestly think it is an honor to be a part of this movement.
• You help cultivate a culture along these lines among the rest of the staff.

At this time of year,  NYC food pantries are in danger of closing due to a lack of funds.

In order to support their efforts, a group of performers – Christian singer-songwriters from NYU and Columbia gospel choirs, NYU and Cooper Union Christian a cappella groups – is organizing a benefit concert on Saturday, December 3rd at 5 p.m.

The concert will be at NYU Law’s Tishman Auditorium in Vanderbilt Hall (40 Washington Square South).

All proceeds benefit three food pantries – Father’s Heart in the East Village, Bowery Mission on the Lower East Side, and Love Kitchen in Washington Heights.
