Dior's resort 2014 collection made it's debut against the backdrop of Monte Carlo's Mediterranean sea with hues of lemon, cobalt and blush pink. The crowd of fashion jet sets like Marion Cotillard and Prince Albert among others, soaked up the fashion delights of Raf Simons latest fashion designs as he continue to transform the house of Dior with his modern, romantic and minimal touches. There were pantsuits, evening gowns and sundresses. Simon's style continues to be observed, as he puts some of his signatures such as the sheer dresses and metallic like finished silks. The styles are flirty and has an ease about them, that perhaps work well with today's fashionistas who might tend to want high fashion but without the fuss of too much tailoring. Sneakers have come a long way. In their hundred-plus year history, they've gone from primitive pieces of athletic equipment to fashion status symbols in some cultures. They’ve seamlessly become staples in our day-to-day lives and impacted fashion, sports, retail and entertainment. Elisabeth Semmelhack, Senior Curator at the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto, has developed a new exhibition, the first show ever in North America to take on the complex history of the sneaker entitled: 'Out of the Box: The Rise of Sneaker Culture'. The exhibition is currently opened and goes until March 30th, 2014.

The exhibition features more than 130 early, rare and contemporary sneakers while chronicling the birth and innovation of rubber footwear. In 1839, the process of vulcanization, named after the Roman god of fire, was discovered where rubber was made less sticky and more elastic through the use of sulphur and heat. Bill Bowerman, Olympic-level track coach and Nike co-founder, who innovated nylon uppers and cushioned insoles, is represented by the Nike Waffle Trainer, 1974. Bowerman is noted for creating a rubber sole in a waffle-maker; to create built in traction while making the rubber thinner and lighter.

'Out of the Box' has a major focus on the historic men and companies that have gotten sneakers to its current status as the go-to footwear. But according to Semmelhack, there were two major collaborations that shifted the social consciousness and began a major boom in the globalization of contemporary sneaker culture. One of the major collaboration is; Michael Jordan signing his Nike contract in 1985 and the next is; RUN D.M.C., becoming the first hop-hop artists to sign a sneaker contract in 1986. These moments solidified sneakers in the entertainment industry, while opening the door for men to explore alternative fashionable footwear that was affordable and cool.

Chanel's resort 2013 collection is an inspiration of history and perhaps the reason we originally loved this brand. This collection is everything we love about style and timeless classic fashion. There are jackets, trousers and collard shirts with fabrics and shapes that made the house of Chanel what it is and continues to be. Skinny ties, jacquard sweaters with exposed shoulders and over sized trousers add the touch of old glamour mixed with the new. The mood of the worldly fashionista can be noticed with models dressed in cricket inspired gear with colors reminiscent of this colonial and old sport. The Diesel Black Gold Resort 2014 collection is very active and sportswear inspired. What's most refreshing about this collection is the white color palettes of the initial looks though it gradually transition into more darker color palettes. For years, the idea of white has been shunned in fashion by the mass retailers. This is because it's very hard to sell in stores, due to consumers knowing that once or twice you wear it and it's soiled, its ruined. It looks like that's about to change and fashionistas are embracing it as the new black. The looks are a biker jacket meets denim with a play of dress-up of the tuxedo jacket for reinvention.
