“Alien Cathouse” is apparently a real thing that’s coming. No pun intended. I think it’s safe to say that this is nerd/geek pandering on an unprecedented level. I guess that’s what we get for being a marketable demographic now. We are the new hotness and even the “pimps and hoes” want a piece of the action. I can’t help but wonder if they cater to everyone’s particular tastes. I’m sure there is someone out there who fantasizes about Xenomorphs or hot Martian action. In all likely hood, those are probably a step up from the normal menu.

To say that I feel some form of unadulterated bliss when I watch “Doctor Who” is an understatement. I have been an avid fan for many years now. This last Saturday marked the end of this season and now I have to wait for Christmas before I see a new episode. There are no words to describe how I feel about this.

Despite that, I have to admit that the season finale of Doctor Who was somewhat lacking. I liked it, but my nerdy mind couldn’t grasp some of the plot holes, not to mention the overall obvious and disappointing climax.

!!SPOILERS BELOW!!!

The episode starts off with time and space all kinds of fucked up. All of time itself has merged into one. London and the Roman empire have merged, there are kids feeding pterodactyl’s, cars floating around on balloons and the world is ran by Sir William Churchill the Holy Roman Emperor. The time is 5:02pm, April 22, 2011 and is stuck in this spot because The Doctor has averted his own death, which apparently has to happen.

This goes back to the first episode of the season where we see The Doctor getting blasted by someone dressed as a  1960′s Apollo astronaut. He dies, permanently, with no regeneration and throughout the rest of the season we find out  who does it, why this has to happen and that the Doctor cannot avoid it. He of course does.

This is where things start to get a little “iffy.”

The Who? (pun very much intended)

The people behind The Doctor’s death are a religious order called “The Silence.” They are basically these freakishly tall, 1950′s aliens in black and white suits. There gimmick is that every time you’re not looking at them, you forget who they are and that they were even there. In order to remember them, you have to keep looking at them. I personally like this gimmick and it adds an extra level of creepiness that we haven’t seen since “The Weeping Angels.”It certainly beats trash can monsters. Their choice of clothing on the other hand is a little lame. They have various servants in there order, soldiers, headless monks, a scary lady in an eye patch, and one psychopathic assassin with the ability to regenerate named River Song.

We have seen River Song, the future wife of “The Doctor” since season four in 2008. Throughout the season we see that River is the daughter of Amy and Rory. She was conceived in the TARDIS and unlike other humans, has the ability to regenerate. She was kidnapped by The Silence, conditioned and raised to kill The Doctor but can’t commit to the task because she falls in love with him. She is eventually forced into doing the task, but manages to stop herself, which causes time to screw up royally. They establish that The Doctor’s death is a fixed point in time and that apparently means that It has to happen, no matter what.

My problem is that Steven Moffat started off with this huge mystery. Who is this Astronaut? River Song, being the answer to this question became more and more obvious as the season progressed. It left the finally without much of a surprise twist that I would have liked  and to be honest, was the obvious answer. I hate it when I watch a movie or show and can predict the ending before it actually happens. I know that they had to tell River’s story, but I wanted something more to the climax than the obvious. It’s called sleight of hand. Have me believe one thing, and then blow my mind by being something that I couldn’t have predicted.

The Why?

Why exactly does The Doctor have to die you ask? Apparently he is the only one who knows the answer to a question that must never be answered. The answer to this question can apparently destroy everything. They say that if the question is answered “Silence will Fall.” I took it as meaning that everything ends. The Doctor in his future will eventually answer this question and in doing so, end everything. The entire religious society of The Silence is based on this question and to prevent this question from being answered they have to kill the one man that knows can answer it, The Doctor.

The way I just worded the last paragraph is how mysterious the last season was about this question. They spoke of it but never really told you what it was. It was all a bunch of cloak and dagger bullshit but worked well enough for me to ask the question…What is the question? What is the secret that could end the universe or whatever? You want to know what it is?

Doctor Who? (pun, not fucking intended)

That’s not me making a pun. I’m being serious. The answer to that question has the power to end everything. His motherfucking real name. I couldn’t help but let my mind go wild with that one. The end of the last episode of season 6 was a either a total cop-out, or they are completely serious. It sometimes seems that they really didn’t have much of a master plan here. I can’t help but feel a little disappointed that an entire season built up and ended in the writer coping out and ending it in a pun.

The Doctor dies, but doesn’t

Steven Moffat said earlier this year that we see the REAL Doctor get REALLY killed.

BULLSHIT!

They have slowly plugged in episodes were we see clones of people being made called “Gangers”  and even a robot controlled by miniaturized people, that can be made to look like anyone, called The Teselecta. I think you know where I’m going with this. They made it pretty obvious.

The Doctor has to die, and River manages to avoid killing him but in doing so messes with the whole time-space continuum or whatever and screws everything up. The only way to fix it is for them to make contact with each other…they have to touch. I said before they get married and that whole concept of them having to touch is used to get them to marry and kiss. In doing so, they fix all of time, but the whole Doctor dying thing has to still happen. They set the ground rules but they can’t very well kill the main character permanently. I’m sure you’ve guessed what they did, as did I a few episodes ago.

It boils down to this…he borrows a suit.

The Teselecta is basically a man sized ship, that can take on the form of any one person, and is run by a crew of humans who have been temporarily miniaturized to fit inside. That is the gimmick that saves him. He got on board and made the robot look like him. River refused to touch him when time was all messed up, because she knew that he would die. She only kissed him when he told her what he was doing.  Time reset, the suit got blasted but The Doctor survived.

He survived by borrowing someone’s suit.

You know he wouldn’t die because they didn’t cancel the show but the way they got around it was too obvious. The big reveal was utterly predictable and didn’t seem to have much forethought at all. In other words…Boooo!!

Conclusion

Steven Moffat is full of fail for how he ended this season, and the last season now that I think about it. He starts off strong with a lot of foreplay, but in the end…just falls short. A lot of Doctor who fans give Steven Moffat too much credit. I agree that he is a brilliant writer, and that him spear heading the show has made it better than it has been. All his episodes from before he became head writer were my absolute favorite. He doesn’t however have much of an overall plan. He’s making this shit up as he goes along. He might have had one at some point in time…but I doubt it. He is made out to be a master story teller but I still have a lot of questions left over from this season and the one before. You can say that it will be told in the next season, but judging from what I’ve seen. I seriously doubt it.

I love watching “Doctor Who” and have no intentions of stopping, but this season finale didn’t measure up for me.

If I was to give it a rating, I would say that it was a solid…..MEH!!

For being enjoyable, but predictable.

World of Warcraft has me in its clutches…again. She is a dark mistress, one I can’t say NO to sometimes. The new patch, will reintroduce an old friend of mine called Ragnaros. I remember killing him in vanilla WoW…before the Burning Crusade expansion…You know…when it counted. I’m very excited to get back into the raid and take him out once again.

I’m back…from my small hiatus, to give you juicy comics…freshly squeezed.

I was checking out the new Hitman Trailer and started reminiscing about all the pain and frustration I endured from the old games.  I had to try and achieve the perfect score by being as “sneaky” as humanly possible. I failed alot and It usually resulted in a more…overt…method of dispatching my foes.

Yes…thats right…I did call Agent 47 “Baldy Barcode.”
