POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL "LA FE" IN VALENCIA, SPAIN - MOBILITY

This specialty care centre is part of the Spanish public hospital network, with 1.300 beds, 39 operating rooms and more than 4.000 patients per day. Taking advantage of relocating to a new hospital, an innovative RFID and Wi-Fi system has been implemented to guarantee clinical safety and provide identification, location and tracking of patients and assets in real time. The project started in March 2011 and has been developed in three phases: "Opening, Adjustment and Full-Implementation".

The importance lies in the autonomy offered for nursing carts, allowing the automatic secure identification of patient bedside, obtaining and including all data on its clinical records in real time, as well as patient and asset location and traceability.

This project saves time on daily tasks that do not add value, minimizes errors, saves costs, collects data automatically and is integrated with the Hospital Information System. 82 mobile units (nursing carts) include ZigBee technology (2,4 GHz) for 823 hospitalization beds to provide automatic patient identification, integrated with bedside clinical processes. Each patient wears a bracelet, providing unique identification to the system in real time (every 1.5 seconds), locating and tracking them. Vital sign monitor, electrocardiograph and other devices are integrated with secure identification and hospital information system.

The project´s implementation was not without difficulties; the adjustment period to new infrastructure and the training of professionals on new technology (considering average age of 52 years old) took some time.

The mobility system is successfully installed in 100 percent of the hospitalization units providing secure identification, location and tracking of 80 percent of patients per day in real time. Aspects like communication infrastructure and integration are currently being finished (80 percent completed). 100 percent of professionals and new staff received training in the three months and the technology is already incorporated in the daily work.

The future impact of the project is improvement on clinical safety and return on investment, saving time and resources.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 3rd February 2012. - The Arab Health Exhibition & Congress is the largest healthcare exhibition in the Middle East, and the second largest in the world. Arab Health 2012 took place from 23th to 26th January at the Dubai International Conventions Exhibition Centre. In 2012 over 3,000 exhibitors from 60 countries, more than 65,000 healthcare professionals from across the world visited Arab Health.

SPHERAhospital was exhibited at booth 5B29 in Hall 5, under the umbrella of TSB local partner VIA technologies, one of the IT leader company integrators at Saudi Arabia. Brussels, Belgium, 20th January 2012.- The system of the Hospital La FE in Valencia which includes the supply, installation, configuration, implementation and maintenance of RFID system for location, monitoring and traceability has been awarded as fifth position in the IT "Networking Awards 2012.

The Global Healthcare IT and Medical Technology Competition took place on 18th -19th January 2012 in the General Secretariat of EAHM, Clinique St-Jean, Brussels, with more than 17 final candidates. 21 July 2011, Oregon, USA.- Continua Health Alliance has decided to adjust the format of the Marketing Work Group into an advisory council, with the intention of utilizing our members' strategic expertise while streamlining tactical execution.

"From TSB, Continua is very important to align the industry efforts and work together to attend the future market needs. TSB will help to get more visibility and generate awareness on Continua certification and products at Spanish market and also our recently business at Latin-American and Gulf Cooperation Council" commented Serafin Arroyo, Marketing and Sales Director, recently selected as Marketing Advisory Council member representative.

The Council is responsible for oversight of various marketing aspects throughout the Alliance, including regular reviews of collateral, the Continua Web site, and various presentations and associated messaging. The ZigBee Alliance held on May 18-19, 2011 its 5th European ZigBee Developers´Conference. ZigBee Developers' Conferences are a platform to learn about the actual and future status of the ZigBee development, to get to know hardware and software products' and to get acquainted with the development process. The ZigBee Developers' Conference was successfully brought to Europe for the first time in 2007 to exchange the latest technical details and to look for ZigBee solutions. It is endorsed by the ZigBee Alliance, a consortium with currently more than 400 official member companies.

Serafin Arroyo, Marketing and Sales Director at TSB presented SPHERAhospital, a ZigBee based system chosen to provide location, tracking and monitoring of patients and assets in the new Hospital La Fe in Valencia, Spain. The system guarantees the clinical security of patients optimizes daily work and facilitates the entire hospital management.

The scope of the project is to provide the new hospital with an infrastructure in order to achieve tracking, monitoring and location of patients through the RFID technology, that doesn´t interfere with other wireless technologies of the center. The ZigBee technology allows management of patients and assets in real time in an effective and efficient way.

SUCCESSFUL REVIEW FOR INDEPENDENT PROJECT

The successful First Review Meeting of the European project INDEPENDENT, funded under the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme, was held in Brussels on Feb 10, 2011.

The consortium partners presented the work carried out during last months to an expert audience at headquarters in Brussels. The Officers were really satisfied with the goals achieved in that period of time with relatively minor deviations, and even they expressed how ambitious is the technical plan reflected in the documentation. Overall the deliverables demonstrate the consortium is working well aligned to the work plan and making progress towards achieving the ambition set out in the original DOW.

INDEPENDENT is a European pilot project that brings together twenty partner organisations across six European Member States. Jointly, they have set up an ambitious work programme which aims at better capitalising on information and communications technology (ICT) when it comes to supporting older people in their communities. The ultimate goal is to empower older people to maintain their independence.

TSB Tecnologias para la Salud y el Bienestar is part of the core team of research and industry organizations that provides technical knowledge to the consortium project. The role of TSB in terms of the project is focused on the architecture design of the platform. This architecture should provide the openness and flexibility needed to integrate a wide range of services. The architecture also ensures the scalability, interoperability and reliability that will be required for the future scaling up of the INDEPENDENT services and integration of any new service components

The INDEPENDENT digital support infrastructure for joined-up care delivery builds on a range of technologies. Different ICT-based services are supported across the pilot sites including telecare and telehealth, video and audio conferencing connecting care recipients and informal carers with a care team, Electronic Health Records accessible not only to health professionals but also to other members of the care team, CRM tools for the management of the user's information, and web applications to ensure openness and ubiquitous access.

Wednesday, 19 January 2011 (eHealth News. eu) - TSB Technologies for Health and Wellbeing awarded the tender from Valencia Regional Government in Spain, which includes the supply, installation, configuration, implementation and maintenance of RFID system for location, monitoring and traceability in the Hospital La Fe in Valencia. The scope of the project is to provide the new hospital with an infrastructure in order to achieve tracking, monitoring and location of patients through the RFID technology, that doesn't interfere with other wireless technologies of the center.

The new Hospital La Fe will be equipped with a precursor system. "The center will be a referent in the innovation for the tracking, location and security, including the global control and management of patients and assets," comments Pilar Raro, Innovation Manager at Information Systems Department of the Hospital.

TSB-SPHERAhospital will operate automatically by using the SPHERAone technology, based in location algorithms entirely developed by TSB. A network of 1.110 fixed beacons installed in different areas will be used to monitor the hospital. These beacons will allow locating more than 1.500 patients and more than a thousand assets in the new hospital. In addition, Health Information System (HIS) ORION, developed by the Regional Health Ministry of Valencia (Conselleria de Sanitat de la Comunidad Valenciana), will be integrated.

Moreover, this system fulfills the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation for Patient Safety: "First, do no harm," providing the correct and unequivocal location and identification of patients in every moment and place on the entire hospital.

30.11.2010- Valencia's Technology Park, Spain - TSB Technologies for Health and Wellbeing awarded the tender number 467/2010 from Valencia Regional Government in Spain, which includes the supply, installation, configuration, implementation and maintenance of RFID system for location, monitoring and traceability in the Hospital La Fe in Valencia [2010/8003]. The scope of the project is to provide the new hospital with an infrastructure in order to achieve tracking, monitoring and location of patients through the RFID technology, that doesn´t interfere with other wireless technologies of the center.

REMOTE project meeting in Nüremberg

TSB attended the Plenary Board Meeting on the 21st and 22nd October in Nüremberg association for the communications technology (NIK).
REMOTE aims at defining and establishing a multidisciplinay and integrated approach to R&D of ICT (information and communication technology) for addressing real needs of elderly people as well as self care and self-management of chronic conditions.

Nüremberg, 21st and 22nd October 2010.- Remote is a pan- European AAL (Ambient Assisting Living) research project concerned with the needs of elderly and physically impaired people. The focus is especially on those living in geographical or social isolation whose independent life is at risk with chronic conditions or lifestyle risk factors.

REMOTE aims at defining and establishing a multidisciplinary and integrated approach to R&D of ICT for addressing real needs of elderly people as well as self care and self-management of chronic conditions.

The main purpose of the workshop was to present the REMOTE project to the general and to the special public. It is a good opportunity to get early feedback from potential test users or in the long term customers.

REMOTE is presented as a solution for improve personal self-care services (Activity and nutrition advisor, social interaction platform, personal calendar and trip advisor). Also REMOTE allows to augmented home autonomy applications and mobile and portable toolkits (remote access to home automation and virtual trip assistant which will monitor the health conditions of the user and provide alert messages and guidance for preventing dangerous events).

The main contribution of TSB to REMOTE project is our relevant experience in Software development, Development of applications in mobile devices, Development of embedded systems and Ambient Intelligence and distributed systems. (1) Software development of the local public system of health with the development of the module for Home Hospitalization management. (2) Development of applications in mobile devices: J2ME, Symbian, .NET, WAP, OSGi over J2ME; especial emphasis in use of hardware capabilities of basic mobile phones and smart phones: Bluetooth, GPS... (3) Development of embedded systems: TSB has a hardware division focused on the development of products and services over a framework of devices. (4) Ambient Intelligence and distributed systems: a special attention about the knowledge of TSB in OSGi, uPnP, SOA based architectures, middleware for hardware abstraction.

TSB and its ZigBee applications have been presented at TI E2E^TM Community, during a TI ZigBee Technology in Practice: a Real-World Solution´s interview . Mark Grazier, worlwide manager for TI´s Low-Power RF developer network and Serafin Arroyo, Marketing and Sales Director at TSB explained the several applications base on TI modules, been focussed on SPHERAmobile and SPHERAhospital.

This interview took place during the 4th European ZigBee Developers' Conference in Munich, Germany. TSB was selected by Texas Instruments Low Power RF Developer Network during 2009, to design and deploy wireless real time location tracking solutions using TI´s ZigBee modules.

SPHERAmobile is a powerful tool that allows localization, control and identification of children outdoors in an easy, secure and efficient way. Every child uses a bracelet which serves to identify and locate him/her in an area of 20 metres around the person in charge.
SPHERAhospital allows location, monitoring (patients and assets) , tracking and patient´s identification in large spaces and defined areas indoor. TSB present at International Symposium on Neurorehabilitation

TSB was present at International Symposium on Neurorehabilitation, which was held in the Museo de las Ciencias Príncipe Felipe of Valencia (Spain), 15th and 16th October 2009.

Several products and solutions such us DERMAmovil for telemonitoring of patients with dermatological treatments and NOMHAD, an efficient and complete solution to manage home care units at hospitals, were showed.

The most interesting for the participant was SPHERAone technology. It applies an intelligent localisation system, based on concepts of Ambient Intelligence (AMI) and Ambient Assited Living (AAL), enabling monitoring of individuals in pre-defined areas. This concept can be applied to groups of people at hospitals, residences, summer camps and leisure centers. With the implementation of this technology, the need for intelligent telecare, identification, control of groups, tracking and access to areas of people is more than taken care of.

The product shown was SPHERAmobile®, which allows localization, control and identification of children outdoors in an easy, secure and efficient way. The system works everywhere in an autonomous way using SPHERAone technology developed by TSB. The person in charge of every group carries a PDA which will be used to manage the lists of children.
