<p>The Topeka &amp; Shawnee County Public Library, the Library Journal 2016 Library of the Year, is looking for a Public Services Supervisor who is an effective communicator, organized, and enthusiastic who also has a passion for what libraries do to impact literacy, learning and quality of life in our community.</p>
<p>This position is responsible for coordinating and implementing services and supervising staff members in the Public Services Readers &amp; Resources Team. These services include literacy, readers and reading, and community resources.</p>
<p>As the Public Services Supervisor some of the things you will do are:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Supervise staff: </strong>Directly supervise employees by training, coaching, counseling, and completing performance evaluations. Manage and supervise daily operations by monitoring schedules and assigning projects. Work directly with all Public Services staff on the service floor, in team meetings and one on one.</li>
<li><strong>Coordinate Project teams: </strong>Organize staff and volunteers into teams and determines the work to be accomplished and who will complete the work</li>
<li><strong>Staff Performance: </strong>Provide ongoing feedback to staff about performance and completes staff evaluations, timecards, and reports in a timely manner.</li>
<li><strong>Hiring and Onboarding staff: </strong>In concert with the Public Services Manager, determine staffing needs and the hiring process in Public Services.</li>
<li><strong>Service Planning: </strong>Implement policies and procedures and assist with development of annual goals for the Department.</li>
<li>Collaborate with supervisors across the organization to strategically deploy staff resources efficiently and effectively.</li>
<li>Complete work assignments in a timely manner.</li>
<li>Provide leadership and initiative in helping others to achieve their training goals.</li>
<li>Advocate for staff ideas and work towards implementation.</li>
<li>Keep current on trends in libraries, literacy, and learning, and make recommendations for changes and improvements based on knowledge and experience.</li>
<li>Maintain technology competency at a level determined by the Library.</li>
<li>Maintain prompt arrival and efficiently and dependably maintain scheduled hours.</li>
<li>Serve as an active member and participant of the Library’s Management Team and other leadership teams or committees.</li>
<li>Serve on committees as assigned.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Position Requirements &amp; Preferences:</strong></p>
<p><strong>Required</strong>:</p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.</li>
<li>Three years of customer service experience.</li>
</ul>

<ul>
<li>One year of previous library work experience.</li>
<li>One year of previous supervisory experience.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of readers’ advisory and reference techniques, collection development principles and practices.</li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude and a strong service orientation.</li>
<li>Strong planning, analytical, and organizational skills.</li>
<li>Ability to guide, develop and motivate staff.</li>
<li>Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner.</li>
<li>Ability to work with other Library managers and supervisors in planning and directing the effective use of resources, including staff.</li>
<li>Ability to plan and organize work procedures.</li>
<li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and customers.</li>
<li>Ability to operate Microsoft Office Suite software applications.</li>
<li>Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.</li>
<li>Ability read and write comprehensively.</li>
<li>Ability to meet the public with poise and self assurance, and to deal tactfully and courteously with library customers.</li>
<li>Ability to function effectively in a team-oriented environment.</li>
<li>Ability to work scheduled hours, arrive promptly and maintain regular and reliable attendance.</li>
</ul>
<p>A pre and/or post-employment drug screen, criminal history record check and physical capacity testing are required as a condition of employment.</p>
<p><strong>SCHEDULE: </strong>40 hours a week. Primarily M – F 8am – 5pm, with occasional evenings and weekends.</p>
<p><strong>PAY &amp; BENEFITS</strong>: Starting pay will be in the range of $54,392 to $67,995.20 annually depending on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits including health &amp; dental insurance with pre-tax premiums, and a retirement plan (Kansas Public Employees Retirement System KPERS). Group life, disability coverage and accidental death benefits are also provided. Other tasks will include dusting, wet mopping, restroom cleaning, dust mopping, emptying trash, and other general custodial duties. Arrange meeting rooms for programs and meetings. Empty and box up donations. Lock and secure the Library.</p>
<p>REQUIREMENTS/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Valid driver&#8217;s license with insurable driving record is required. One year custodial experience and knowledge of the operation of different types of custodial equipment is preferred. Meeting room setup and minor maintenance experience are preferred. A pre-and/or post-employment drug screen, a criminal history record check, and a physical capacity testing are required as a condition of employment.</p>
<p>SCHEDULE: This is a part-time position. Hours are Saturday 12:15 pm &#8211; 6:15 pm, Sunday 3:15 pm &#8211; 9:15 pm, Monday 8:00 pm &#8211; 12:00 am &amp; Friday 8:00 pm &#8211; 12:00 am with Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays off.</p>
<p>PAY &amp; BENEFITS: Starting rate is $13.08 to $16.35 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. <p>The Topeka &amp; Shawnee County Public Library, the Library Journal 2016 Library of the Year, is looking for an Access Services Manager who is team oriented, organized, an articulate leader and has a passion for what our Library can do to impact literacy and learning in our community.</p>
<p>This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating access services operations, which includes the Circulation and Community Services departments, inside and outside of the main library.</p>
<p>As the Access Services Manager, you will:</p>
<ul>
<li>Provide overall leadership, direction, management, and administration of the work of the Circulation and Community Services Departments.</li>
<li>Consistently evaluate Circulation and Community Services and make necessary changes to ensure that the library provides equitable library access for all Shawnee County residents.</li>
<li>Initiate, coordinate, and oversee the delivery of physical materials to the community both in the main library and throughout the community by outreach services.</li>
<li>Plan, evaluate, and implement, with the assistance of supervisory staff, remote access services, including Bookmobiles, material delivery, and book lockers.</li>
<li>Supervise, lead, coach, develop, mentor, complete performance reviews of two Circulation Supervisors and the Community Services Supervisor and oversee hiring of the staff for both departments.</li>
<li>Work with supervisors and staff to develop, document, train, and implement departmental work processes. Work closely with the Chief of Staff and Chief Executive Officer.</li>
<li>Provide professional development opportunities and activities to assist supervised employees with developing and improving job-related skills.</li>
<li>Develop and maintain budges for Circulation and Community Services. Determine budget needs and submit annual budget requests to Chief of Staff and Chief Financial Officer.</li>
<li>Serve as part of the library’s Senior Director Team and Management Team and helps set the vision and goals for the library.</li>
<li>Conduct continuous environmental scanning for innovative ideas and ways to develop and implement services.</li>
<li>Maintain prompt arrival and efficiently and dependably maintains scheduled hours.</li>
</ul>

<p>The Topeka &amp; Shawnee County Public Library is looking for a Youth Services Specialist who is energetic, an effective communicator, organized, and has a passion for sparking curiosity with young children in our community.</p>
<p>The Youth Services Specialist provides direct service support to customers for their information, reading and technology questions needs in person, over the phone, and online. Excites children about learning and reading.  In addition, the Specialist creates and presents programs, classes, learning experiences, displays, and digital content focused on a wide range of learning needs of customers, especially young children aged birth to five and their significant adults.</p>
<p>As the Youth Services Specialists some of the things you will do are:</p>
<p><strong>Customer Engagement:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Deliver high quality customer service by assisting customers with library materials, digital resources, technology equipment, information needs, or other services. Engage with customers in person, by phone, by email, by text messaging, or by chat services.  Promote the use of services, materials, and programs to customers.</li>
<li>Instruct customers on how to locate, reserve, and check out materials. Instruct customers on how to locate and register for services. Troubleshoot issues related to services, materials, and technology use. Communicate well with children and adults. Interactions may take place in the library or in the community as outreach.</li>
<li>Maintain collections and spaces for ease of use, attractiveness, and general upkeep.</li>
<li>Ensure that customers are abiding by all library policies and procedures to allow for a safe and enjoyable experience for all library visitors and staff.</li>
<li>Assist with implementation of the Learn and Play Bus service including, but not limited to, driving to stops, facilitating play, and providing programming.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Program Development:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Research, prepare, present, facilitate, and evaluate physical and virtual learning opportunities for the public based upon community needs and interests individually or as part of a team.</li>
<li>Follow the library’s programming framework when planning, presenting, and evaluating programs.</li>
<li>Create age-appropriate programming to meet the unique needs of youth aged birth-five.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Content Creation:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Research, prepare, write/record content for publicity, displays, social media platforms, and websites under the advisement of the Communications and Marketing Department.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Commercial Driver’s License:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Obtains and follows all state and federal requirements of a CDL Class B with air brakes endorsement. Follows all requirements for CDL compliance including completion of pre- and post-trip vehicle inspection forms, random drug and alcohol testing, reporting personal driving infractions to supervisors, completing in-house driver training, etc.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Attendance: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Maintain prompt arrival and efficiently and dependably maintains scheduled hours.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Position Requirements/Preferences</strong></p>
<p><strong>Required:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Four years of customer service experience or post-secondary education from an accredited college or university or a combination of experience and post-secondary education.</li>
<li>Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) class B with air brakes or the ability to obtain a CDL class B with air brakes within the first 6 months of hire and an insurable driving record.</li>
<li>Must obtain and maintain a negative tuberculosis (TB) test.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Preferred:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Two years of experience working directly with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in a professional capacity.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Multilingual fluency in English and at least one other language is preferred.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of early childhood development.</li>
<li>Knowledge of children’s literature, authors, and pop culture.</li>
<li>Knowledge of library tools and learning resources such as databases, print resources and online resources.</li>
<li>Computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite applications, preferably Office 365.</li>
<li>Strong interpersonal, written communication, oral communication, and organizational skills.</li>
<li>Ability to work with diverse populations.</li>
<li>Ability to work cooperatively with customers, volunteers, community partners, colleagues, and supervisors.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently or in a team.</li>
<li>Ability to perform detailed work with accuracy.</li>
<li>Ability to work scheduled hours, arrive promptly, and maintain regular, reliable attendance.</li>
<li>Ability to use technology necessary for the position and learn new technology as it is needed.</li>
<li>Ability to travel safely to outreach sites throughout the community.</li>
</ul>
<p>A pre and/or post-employment drug screen, criminal history record check and physical capacity testing are required as a condition of employment.</p>
<p><strong>SCHEDULE: </strong>Full-time 40 hours per week. Days, nights and some weekend hours are required.</p>
<p><strong>PAY &amp; BENEFITS</strong>: Hourly rate will be in the range of $17.80 ($37,040) to $22.25 ($46,280) depending on experience and qualifications. <p>The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, Library Journal 2016 Library of the Year, is a 21st-century, landmark library, and features the Alice C. <p><strong>DUTIES: </strong>Offers customer service in person, by telephone, email and chat services. Communicates with customers and manages appointments using Curbside Pickup Manager software. Checks out curbside holds to customers and delivers materials to their parked car. Addresses customer account inquiries, such as updating personal information, collecting payment for or resolving customer account charges, setting up payment plans, and addressing long overdue titles or problem items. Assists with library card registration and lost library card replacement, provides general library information, and directs patrons to appropriate service areas or library staff for their informational needs. Circulates library materials and maintains electronic records such as check out and check in of items. Feeds returned library materials through the automated material handling (AMH) machine for check in and sorting. Collects sorted checked in materials from the AMH bins to build carts to shelve. Navigates AMH computer software to setup check in backdates or pause the delivery system. Pulls patron requests from lists and sorts them via the AMH machine. Processes sorted requested titles for customer pick up.</p>
<p><strong>SCHEDULE: </strong>These part-time positions may work days, nights and weekends. Specific schedules will be discussed during interviews.</p>
<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS: </strong>Requires a High School diploma or equivalent. Requires a valid Kansas drivers’ license with an insurable driving record. Applicant must have excellent customer service skills, the ability to handle customer inquiries successfully while completing other assigned tasks, the ability to accept changes to scheduled assignments when coverage is needed, ability to work independently or collaborate effectively with a team, organizational skills, the ability to perform detailed work accurately as well as retain and apply multi-step procedures repetitively, ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing in a professional manner with customers, community partners, coworkers and supervisors, and the ability to maintain regular reliable attendance. Previous experience in customer service is preferred. This medium work position requires bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force when pushing/pulling materials, stand for long periods of time, reaching, the ability to climb stairs, talking on the telephone, stationary work at a computer terminal, and the ability to work to the assigned schedule.</p>
<p>A pre-and/or post-employment drug screen, a criminal history record check, and physical capacity testing are required as a condition of employment.</p>

<p><strong>JOB DUTIES</strong>:</p>
<ul>
<li>Cleans the library facilities using a checklist of duties that include vacuuming with upright and large commercial vacuums, emptying trash, dust mopping, wet mopping, dusting, cleaning restrooms, shampooing carpets, strip/wax tile floors, as well as other general custodial cleaning as assigned by supervisor or lead custodian.</li>
<li>Dusts and cleans walls, doors, windows, woodwork, and other above floor surfaces.</li>
<li>Vacuums rugs and carpets for at least one hour at a time, multiple times throughout the day.</li>
<li>Maintains supplies and cleanliness in janitor closets and storage areas.</li>
<li>Cleans tools and equipment daily.</li>
<li>Arranges and sets up meeting rooms for programs for the public and staff, to include setting up tables, chairs, and other equipment.</li>
<li>Empties library book return(s), wheels into building and boxes up books and materials.</li>
<li>Locks and secures building at close and upon leaving.</li>
<li>Safely operates Library vehicles such as trucks and vans.</li>
<li>Sets up and tears down up to 400 chairs for at least one hour at a time, multiple times in a workday.</li>
<li>Sets up and tears down up to 40 tables for at least one hour at a time, multiple times in a workday.</li>
<li>Maintains technology competency at a level determined necessary by the Library including but not limited to: downloading and printing meeting room setup instructions; opening, reading, and sending emails; reading the staff intranet; using the Library payroll system to include completing and submitting timesheets and leave requests; and other technology the library deems necessary.</li>
<li>Maintains prompt arrival and efficiently and dependably maintains scheduled hours.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS &amp; ABILITIES</strong>:</p>
<ul>
<li>Ability to perform detailed work with accuracy.</li>
<li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently, be flexible and adapt to a fast-paced work environment.</li>

<p><strong>HOW TO APPLY: </strong>A completed and signed job application is required for consideration for each position. Application forms are available online at <a href="http://www.tscpl.org/">www.tscpl.org</a>, or in the Library at the Customer Service Desk or in Human Resources. <strong>Applications will be reviewed as they are received. The position will remain posted until filled.</strong></p>

<p>Application materials may also be handed in at the Human Resources Office on the second floor of the library. Human Resource office hours are M-F 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. If the HR office is not open, applications may be dropped off at the Customer Service Desk.</p>
