Institute of Videography: Standard Press Release for members gaining IOV accreditation

Local Video Production Company achieves IOV Accreditation

[Nicky Brown] of [Techsec Media] in [Bristol] has recently been awarded [Master Membership] of the IOV (Institute of Videography) – a UK-based trade association which promotes professionalism in video production.

The IOV has over 1,000 members in the UK & Europe specialising in event, corporate and freelance video services. Less than 50% of applicants are successful in achieving an accredited status within the IOV, which makes this a significant achievement for [Nicky] In addition to their new accredited status, all IOV members agree to act in accordance with a strict Code of Practice which includes offering their client’s access to the IOV’s Arbitration Service. The IOV’s Arbitration Officer also acts as an independent expert in cases involving non-members – and can advise members of the public on the best course of action should they find themselves in contractual dispute with videographers.

[Techsec Media] specialises in [a wide aspect of production] and is very proud to have achieved this recognition for their work. [Nicky Brown] said: [it’s great to know others respect your abilities]. IOV Membership Secretary, Martin Baker added: “Gaining an IOV accreditation is no easy task. As general video production standards increase, so does the expectations of those carrying out the accreditation process. I’m sure that [Techsec Media] will start to benefit from their achievements in the coming months.”

Chris Waterlow F.Inst.V Added: Thank you for submitting your video for assessment and I am pleased to inform you that you have been awarded Master Membership of the IOV. I also take great pleasure in informing you that your entry has exceeded the 90% mark necessary for us to recommend you for Fellowship of the IOV. If you wish to achieve Fellowship level, we would need you to submit a further two samples of your work, which must also achieve in excess of 90%, and, if possible, be different from each other in their subject matter and style.

We do not usually complete the standard assessment form for productions of this quality, so you may be interested to know that the assessment panel were very impressed by your entry and enjoyed watching it very much. Once again congratulations, and I’m glad you decided to send in the work

Best wishes Chris Waterlow F.Inst.V.

The IOV’s accreditation system is based on submission of work to a panel of existing Fellows who grade the work in five main categories – namely Graphics, Camera Craft, Sound, Editing and Overall Production Quality. Each applicant receives a critique back from the panel and, if successful, is permitted to use the IOV’s logo in their advertising and promotional material. These accredited members are also listed on the IOV’s website under the ‘Find a Videographer’ facility – enabling clients to find a suitable videographer within their area.

More details about the IOV’s Accreditation system can be found on a special section of the IOV website – www.iov.com/assessment. The contact details for [Nicky Brown] are as follows: [Info@techsecmedia.co.uk mobile 07771 757148 www.techsecmedia.co.
Terror Cell Found in Westbury

During the first week in June TechSec Media managed our biggest production task to date; a news story on the production was covered by the local paper (see the article below). The film in question is now in its final stages of editing and we aim to deliver by the end of July. Watch this space for more details.

TERROR CELL FOUND IN WESTBURY (Well sort of) the skies above Westbury set the scene for some high octane drama when a Bristol-based media company dropped in to film their latest advert.

A cast and crew of 26 and three helicopters were used to capture some adrenaline fuelled sky-diving action which will be used to market the latest word in military ear protection. Daring stuntmen dived from 10,000 feet to simulate a Special Forces operation detaining a terrorist cell. This big budget feature was production company TechSec Media’s biggest project yet. Director Jon Gilbert said, “Everybody got a lot from it, the feedback we had was tremendous. There some people from the media industry there who were very complimentary about what we’ve put together, especially as its our first big production.”

Jon said that this had given the company the confidence to drive on and get on with some big plans, which he hopes will involve more filming in Westbury. “Hopefully this will become a bit of a trend for us.” said Jon. He added that the skydive scenes had been carefully filmed to represent anywhere in northern Europe, so even the born and bred of Westbury might not be able to recognize their home town. The project should be completed in the next six weeks, after which it will be available for all to see on the TechSec Media website (www. techsecmedia.co.uk) and their YouTube channel.

The advert will be used by Norwegian defence industry supplier Nacre to promote its hi-tech in-ear protection device the ‘Quietpro’ to the European market. It is already in use by American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan and the company hope to encourage more nations to take the protection of soldiers’ hearing more seriously.
Nacre International sales director Peter Ditchfield said, “It’s a very hot topic at the moment. The modern soldier is in fire fights every day and a lot of soldiers refuse to wear ear plugs because it reduces their awareness, which is exactly where our product comes in. “its worth investing to protect a soldier’s hearing as it affects their quality of life after they have completed service as well.”
The skies above Westbury set the scene for some high octane drama when a Bristol-based media company dropped in to film their latest advert.
TechSec Media: Association of Landrover Clubs National Finals. Story by Lee Durant

Association of Landrover Clubs National Finals Techsec Media was invited to cover the Association of Landrover Clubs National Finals weekend at Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire, organised by Midlands Rover Owners Club and TechSec took up the challenge on with the professionalism and enthusiasm we would any other task, it was a good job we did. The event became a good chance to test both the technical skills and the resolve of our two new cameramen (Lee and Matt). Being former members of the British Forces they were used to performing in extreme conditions but this weekend, the wet May weather took the proverbial.

Nicky (Brown TechSec Director) took on the mantle of filming and producing the events annual DVD which all the regular participants enjoy watching every year. Matt and Lee had the task of taking stills pictures of every competitor as they were testing their off-road skills on the 80 miles of driving tracks throughout the estate.

We pitched up at section 5 on the first day managing to set up 2 positions on the same course, this enabled us to get at least 7 different images of each vehicle and capture everyone who was competing. Nicky was then free to roam around with a newly purchased Cannon High Definition Video camera to get footage of every stance including the self help section where competitors have to rescue their stricken Landrovers from a near impossible situation with only the tools they carry in their vehicle.

9 hours and over 3,500 images later and the first day' s taking was complete, that just left the downloading, renaming, file information and selling of the images to do. With a bedtime after midnight we could see the next day' s early start being a hard one.

The night time weather took a turn for the worst but luckily we had secured the guide ropes well and the tents were still above our heads when we woke. We just knew however, that the adverse conditions were going to make it hard work looking after the camera kit. The weather wasn't t only blowing a gale through the woods where we had agreed to set up the night before but the atmosphere was so rainy and damp we were on a loser from the start. We set up a tent to cover the laptop and spare batteries and a poncho to cover Matt so that his designer clothes didn't t shrink in the rain.

This plan worked well until the section we were set up to photograph became too treacherous for even the mighty Landrover to handle. The organisers cancelled the course and we had to pick ourselves up and quickly re-locate to another vantage point.

A quick recce later and we set up our overhead cover between two trees, on a particularly muddy section of the course that involved the vehicles sling-shotting themselves around an extremely unfortunate tree. We considered this a great viewpoint until one driver thought the route went under our poncho. Matt had never moved as fast as he did the moment he saw a Landrover bearing down on him through his 200mm zoom lens.
A very wet 12 hour day in the rain, another 2,500 Photographs later and a Cannon Video Camera that was so sorry for itself it shut down completely without asking Nicky for his opinion, we went to bed feeling like we had a pretty productive day considering mother natures wrath.

The third and final day saw Nicky dealing with sales back at base camp, despite the dwindling attendance the Comp Safari event took place with Lee in charge of video camera and Matt taking the lead as sole stills photographer. Again the weather was horrendous and the course was constantly being changed to keep the event running. After resorting to holding the small Sony Handicam under a dodgy umbrella Lee managed to inadvertently dunk it in a big muddy puddle. He resorted to his backup, the fully waterproof VEEcam, this camera performed very well in the wet conditions as you would expect. So through all this we managed to get the last few pieces of footage we needed in order to complete the DVD and Matt realised that as good as his brand new Nikon D3 is, it isn't t actually waterproof.

All in all the weekend was a success with two new cameramen tested to the end of their tether, our new video and photographic equipment tested to the extreme and a formal request to cover the event next year.

TechSec-Secure Media: Helyx SIS Ltd - DragonMap

TechSec-Secure Media: Helyx SIS Ltd
During April we provided direct media and consultancy support to Helyx SIS during field work of the Helyx DragonMap product utilizing our security cleared teams. What is dragon map? We ask Sean Kennedy from Helyx to explain:

DragonMap is a intuitive and flexible GIS capability that everyone can use, it provides a simple and intuitive ability to visualise data to support decision making at all levels. The system is flexible allowing you to capture the right information in the right format, through the use of straightforward wizards, HTML forms and data independence; based on the world’s most open and interoperable GIS platform – ESRI ArcGIS.

All geospatial data can be managed centrally and therefore a common, up to date view of the data within an organisation can be guaranteed. DragonMap allows you to easily distribute information internally, to external departments, agencies or customers via CD, DVD or over a network. The application can grow with your organisation, backed by expert and accessible Helyx Geo consultancy support.

DragonMap can grow with the customer’s architecture from file based to multi-user enterprise solutions, delivering the flexibility to grow with your needs. And throughout users benefit from the same intuitive interface, regardless of the level at which it is used. Helyx have teamed with ESRI who’s ArcGIS forms the backbone of the product and therefore offers the benefits of the world’s leading GIS platform. A core strength of DragonMap is that the functionality can be expanded to take advantage of the latest developments in ArcGIS, but kept in a simple interface for the non-specialist user.

Already in use within the Defence and Public Safety domain: DragonMap’s ease of use combined with powerful functionality makes it an excellent choice for many applications, including:

Resource/asset and target mapping
Incident/event management planning
Operational planning and briefing
Infrastructure maintenance
Environmental research and data capture

Comprehensive through-life support ensures fast integration and rapid uptake, with a commitment to constantly develop DragonMap to meet future requirements. Where required, DragonMap is supported by a comprehensive training package designed to accelerate the effective use of the solution within the organisation. The user friendly design of the software means training can be completed in hours, not days, and can be provided as remote computer-based training if required. Customers also benefit from ESRI (UK)’s class-leading technical support service, providing fast and friendly advice on all aspects of the DragonMap’s implementation and operation.

DragonMap has a clear development path with a series of planned extensions, each designed to deliver enhanced functionality and capabilities to the user over time. For more information on DragonMap please contact Mr Sean Kennedy on 01531 671917 or by email at s.kennedy@helyx.co.uk
