And I’ve REDESIGNED the blog :). I’ve been wanting to get back to posting here and making myself redesign the blog (and force myself to deal with the CSS and HTML) seemed like a good way to get back into things. So far so good, although I seemed to have lost all the old comments and the title only looks right in Safari. Oh well. More soon!!

When the tomatoes are in season… well, it’s just too damn good.

So of course, we must partake. Decided to make a real simple marinara. The quality of the tomatoes are what it all taste so damn great. De-skinning time…

The marinara, playing its role lifting up and flavoring meatballs.

The one downside of having too many tomatoes? Sometimes I don’t get to use them in time :(. Collapsed. Under the weight of its overwhelming ripeness. So much flavor, wasted.

The SF Street Food Festival NIGHT MARKET

Every year, there’s a HUGE street food festival held here in San Francisco. I went last year and it was a MADHOUSE. This year, they added a new thing, a “Night Market” which was held down in the Alemany Farmers Market area the night before the actual street food festival. I was pretty excited to check this night market out. I’ve been to night markets in China and in Thailand and they’re pretty amazing.

Since it was over at the Alemany Farmers Market grounds, I was able to walk down there in less than 10 minutes. Here’s the view on the way down. You can sort of see them set up down there… you can also see it was a little foggy, typical SF summer evening.

I was pretty thrilled to see that there were some some good crowds. Even with the $25 donation/entry fee, there were lots of people.

(the coats should also give you a sense for the SF summer ‘chill’.

The pig theme was prevalent.

Drinks were important. And underestimated. They ran out of beer just over an hour into the whole shebang :P. I did not, unfortunately, get any pics of the sad faces who waited in line for 15 minutes to get a beer only to see them run out.

As the sun set and it got darker, the scene got prettier and prettier.

I love how the fog was trying to encroach…

The whole thing with this being at night was awesome. There’s something about being out and about at night, surrounded by lights and people and FOOD that makes life great.

The fire looked particularly impressive in the dark. I had a super delicious burger from this place.

Sold out of EVERYTHING. A successful night indeed.

I would love to see them do something like this down here on a more regular basis.

It is TIME..

…to get a full cage. I’ve been playing hockey the last 18 years with just a half-shield and have been pretty lucky to have never really had any incidents. I’ve had a stick here and there cut my mouth, but that was about it. Last night, one of those errant sticks finally got up under my shield. I got a nice gash on the bridge of my nose and left a nice pile of blood on the ice and on my jersey. But what made me realize it’s time for the full shield was when I got home and started cleaning up my face. I was a little surprised to see that I had a nice little gash right on my eyelid too. It became a little more shocking when I realized this is probably how I lost that contact lens. I was *this* close to having a lot worse injury to my eye than just that gash on my nose. No more procrastinating on that full cage.
