How will you know if you need a grip product? If you have that sweaty hand syndrome or chronically damp palms, then that means when you try to do spins or climbs that you will most likely under perform to your strength and ability because you will not be able to have a stable grip on the pole. This can be VERY frustrating for those who have gone through it. Often people feel they have no choice but to give up, feeling self-defeated by something out of their control, but that’s where grip products come in. Grip products are substances that you can put on your hands which will dry the sweat or absorb it allowing you to truly grip the pole how everyone else experiences. This way you can spin or climb without slippage, which can not only be dangerous, but embarrassing as well. The truth is, you probably have more strength than what your sweaty hands had been giving you credit for. So be at ease! This isn’t the end of your pole fitness journey! And you’ll find out how much better it is as soon as you try a grip product.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Keep in mind that there are many different grip products on the market, so it can be confusing to know which ones work without just ordering and trying them all. This is where we come in to assist you with some of our own knowledge and experience. One of the most common grip products on the market is Dry Hands.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Now, this product was good back in the day when there were no other grip products on the market - or for those who didn’t know about spray in a can baseball grip (one brand of which is Firm Grip) and can be purchased at sports shops, think Dick’s. But be forewarned! This Firm Grip in a can smells toxic and intense so although it does work great, be sure to spray it as close to the hand as possible, perhaps outside the studio before you come in? Please! Once you smell it for the first time, you’ll understand! But it is a great product because it’s like invisible sticky all over your hands which makes you… Spider Woman! Nice…&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;img src="http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lu5xqrBnnV1r24h9m.jpg" height="261" width="348"/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;However, Dry Hands is kind of what AOL is to Google. As AOL is kind of the dinosaur age of web browsers, so is Dry Hands to grip products. Now if you have Dry Hands and you like it, keep it, finish and feel free to become a loyal fan of it. If you are new to it, take it easy on how much product you apply as a lot will really gunk up the pole, not to mention your hands and what was giving you grip will build-up and cause you to slip on the residue. It’s a liquid. I know, sounds weird right? But it does work good enough if you don’t have anything else or haven’t explored other grip product options. Just remember, a little goes a long way. Less is more here. Just experiment to see what works. Some will swear by it and studios sell it either because they believe in it or to turn a profit but if you were to ask us what we think is best among a plethora of products…we would suggest… and quite simply…&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Tite Grip! Why? Because Tite Grip is just a more advanced and, in our humble opinion, more proficient product for all level students. We have some in our studio if you ever want to try it out before you buy your own tube. Just mention it! And while there are many suppliers of the product, we suggest going straight to the source. If you buy from other sellers, you aren’t guaranteed the freshest or most recent formula/packaging. Old bottles of the product may not dispense properly and or be dry in the packaged tube. Here’s the link to &lt;a href="http://www.tite-grip.com/aboutus.htm"&gt;Tite Grip.&lt;/a&gt; If you order, have it sent to your house even if it’s a tiny apartment. We knew one student who ordered it and had it sent to her boyfriend’s work because she thought that the package would be to large to fit in her mailbox. It’s very small! So no worries. If you send it to the wrong address or to someone’s work, it may take you a very long time to get it. When we ordered it, we received it in a matter of days. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Finally, there are tons of other grip products on the market, and new ones every day, no doubt in this fast growing sub-culture of pole dance/fitness. One of those would be Mighty Grip, a powder based product with mixed reviews, but catchy and well-known branding. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We’ve pictured a few others for your perusal. Some of them are for more advanced polers that compete, such as iTac2 which is a wax based grip. I know, sounds weird but it’s effective which is why so many USPDF (United States Pole Dance Federation) champions endorse it, such as Alethea Austin and Karol Helms.&lt;/p&gt;

This is normal and often occurs in people who weight train even. Why? Because we do unique stretches for flexibility, with an eye on the prize for splits and depending on what pole fitness class you participate in, you will most likely be developing your arm strength in a variety of spins and climbs classes. Some people think that they can’t do spins because they don’t have any upper body strength, which is kind of a myth. While this may be true for a very small percentage of women, the majority of women can do easy beginner spins which help develop strength for more challenging ones. Climbs are the same way. Initially they seem very challenging but get easier week after week. Before you know it, you will be scaling the pole like a superhero. Think Cat Woman/Wonder Woman. Because your muscles will be adjusting to this new form of exertion, and will likely be sore after a good workout, we suggest the regular use of Epsom Salts, after consulting with your doctor that they are safe for you. For most people, Epsom Salts work like magic to remove or reduce muscle soreness, sprains, etc.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Epsom Salts are amazing. The AMA (American Medical Association) recommends that American’s take 3 Epsom Salt baths a week because most American’s are deficient of magnesium. Magnesium is great for depleted muscles and restoring electrolytes. They also strengthen the cell wall boosting immunity, as well as help replenish enzymes in the stomach which mean you reduce bloat. Ever binge during the holidays or at a birthday party? Go home and take a nice, steaming hot Epsom Salt bath and notice when you get out how slim you feel and how much more normal your tummy looks after the salts some how ‘magically’ reduce that uncomfortable bloat. But the most amazing thing is if that when you are in pain from some sort of new exercise, or from a muscle sprain, etc… that when you soak in Epsom Salts then get out of the bath… your pain is gone or diminished!&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Where do you get them and what do they look like so you can recognize them in the grocery/pharmacy? Here is a picture. There may be a different brand but they are normally in a half-gallon milk type carton in the back where the pharmacists are located. Just ask if you don’t see them. Some come scented with added fragrances/herbs, but we suggest the original plain. Sometimes the scents smell synthetic and you may not always be in the mood for strong fragrances. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We like to put our Epsom Salts in a nice big quart Mason Jar, alternately, you can keep yours on a shelf or under the bathroom sink, or you can find a pretty container to keep them in with a scoop.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt; &lt;img src="http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lu5vgdCTeA1r24h9m.jpg"/&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;You can just pour them in and eye your measurement, or use a scoop. Make sure you read the instructions for how much to put in the bath water, as many people put less than they should. Start the water, pour the salts in and swish them around with your hand to help them dissolve. We don’t always wait for them to dissolve completely before we soak, but that is what the carton advises. We just let the water fill up about a quarter full so the salts are mixed with plenty of water. If you have sensitive skin that irritates easily, consider letting the salts dissolve completely and experiment with the less is more concept.&lt;/p&gt;

But quietly under the radar  for well over a decade, women  across the globe have been learning and  benefiting from the art of pole.  Pole dance, or pole fitness, is now  one of the fastest growing segments of exercise  trends today. It’s  perfect for women because it addresses all points  of an ideal workout,  including flexibility, strength and cardio. Pole  fitness consists of  dance, floor work, kicks, spins, climbs and  inversions on a vertical  pole.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Dance is the overall aspect that can be performed singularly in and   of itself, but it also defines transitions into the other areas such  as  floor work, kicks, spins, climbs and inversions. Dance aspect  provides  the user with cardio, improved grace and balance. If you feel   challenged in the area of graceful movement, pole fitness will shed   light on a new you. Everyone can develop grace, which creates a more   confidently feminine gait. After learning the dance aspect, every move   you make will be pretty, on or off the pole.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Floor work and kicks are a fun part of pole dance for fitness. Like   the dance aspect of pole fitness, floor work can also be performed as an   end unto itself, or it can also define transitions from the ground up   and gives the dancer a break from the intense cardio workout which   arises out of performing spins, climbs and inversions. Our online   description for our Kicks &amp; Floor Work class describes the fun as   “Be like a Charlie’s Angel in this all level class and learn 3 tough    looking yet super feminine kicks to add to your must have skills while    toning your abs, thighs and calves. This class includes fun,  interesting   and essential moves that teach you what to do when your  dance aspect,   pole spin, climb or inversion takes you to the floor”.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Spins are beautiful, powerful moves that consist of spinning in   various poses around a stationary pole. Stationary or static poles   remain in an unmoving state while the dancer performs, whereas spinner   poles rotate as the dancer changes from pose to pose which appears as a   spin. Spins are a great way to build upper body arm strength, while   toning the back and abs. If you don’t think you have enough upper body   strength to start taking a spin class, think again. We teach easy   beginner spins EVERYONE can do! And the more you learn, the better your   arm strength gets making it easier to move onto more challenging spins.   Everyone has to start somewhere and progress moves swiftly.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;People usually think there is just one way to climb a vertical pole,   or a rope. But there are multiple ways to climb a pole. Our Climbs I   &amp; II class teaches four ways to climb the pole which include pretty   things to do once you get yourself up there, such as holds and pretty   ways to spin yourself down. This is excellent for developing muscle   control, advancing upper body strength and toning the arms, back and   abs. Bring a friend and give it a try!&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Inversions are the intimidating moves where you see women hanging   upside down in various poses on the pole. Many studios treat inversions   as though you have to go through a bunch of hoops or red tape to even   attempt one. But the truth is, most of the people who instruct never   waited until they knew everything else before they tried inversions, as   if there were a perfect time for students to start. We believe as long   as students are taught in a safe and proper environment by a certified   instructor then what is to stop them from just trying them out. Some   people will be better at inversions than they are at any other part of   pole fitness, while others will find their individual strengths   elsewhere across the board.
