1969 Ferrari Sigma Grand Prix Monoposto F1 by Pininfarina. The Sigma was a prototype, which was never intended to compete in any Formula One races.

The main inspiration for creating the car was the fact that many Formula One drivers died in accidents because of low safety standards. The car was designed by Paolo Martin and was based on the Ferrari 312 and weighed 590 kilograms (1,300 lb). It was equipped with a 3.0 litre V12 engine with 436 horsepower (325 kW).

This car was to be a “future car”, showing mainly new safety standards. There were many innovations in it, such as a driver survival cell, multi-layer fuel tanks, a fire extinguisher system, plastic fuel-tanks, a safety-belt-system and sidepods protruding behind the rear wheels to prevent interlocking wheels.

The 1956 Oldsmobile Golden Rocket Concept was a gold colored 2 passenger car, which was styled to resemble a rocket and made its debut at the 1956 General Motors Motorama.

The Rocket had a fiberglass body with nerf-like built in bumpers that give an overall rocket effect. It was powered with a 275 hp Rocket V8 engine. The upholstery was done in blue and gold leather.

The speedometer was mounted in the center of the two-spoked steering wheel along with buttons to tilt the wheel, making it one of the first vehicles with a tilt steering wheel. As either door was opened, the roof panel automatically raised and the seat came up 3 inches and swiveled outward for easy entry or exit.

Boeing performing a ultimate-load wing-up bending test on their 787 Dreamliner program. During the test, the wings on the 787 were flexed upward “approximately 25 feet (7,6 m)” which equates to 150 percent of the most extreme forces the airplane is ever expected to encounter during normal operation.

The test is used to demonstrate a safety margin for the design and is part of the certification process to show the airplane can withstand extreme forces.

Underneath the Arecibo Observatory in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, USA, a 1,000 ft (305 m) radio telescope which is the world’s largest single-aperture telescope, built in 1963.

It is used in three major areas of research: radio astronomy, aeronomy, and radar astronomy observations of the larger objects of the Solar System.

The main collecting dish is constructed inside the depression left by a karst sinkhole. It contains the largest curved focusing dish on Earth, giving Arecibo the largest electromagnetic-wave-gathering capacity. The dish surface is made of 38,778 perforated aluminum panels, each about 3 by 6 feet (1 by 2 m), supported by a mesh of steel cables.

The Global Hawk is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) surveillance aircraft. The RQ-4 provides a broad overview and systematic surveillance using high resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and long-range electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors with long loiter times over target areas. It can survey as much as 40,000 square miles (100,000 km2) of terrain a day.
