Columbia Style Week 2012 Makeup artist Mandie Mack of Bombshell Beauty Studio has passed on. While saddened at her passing, we are all thankful for the time we had with her and her contributions to the fashion/makeup artistry industry. CSW 2012 is pleased to announce that Dr. Norma Khoury will be the keynote speaker at our upcoming pre-CSW event; the “Follow Your Heart” Charity Auction and Gala (to benefit the Midlands Chapter of the American Heart Association) to be held at the Tapp’s Center for the Arts on January 28th, 2012. Norma M. Khoury, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.A.C.P., has been with South Carolina Heart Center since 1991. Previously, she was an assistant professor of medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, WJB Dorn VA Hospital, where she was director of the coronary care unit, chairman of the special care committee and a member of the professional standards board. She has served as chief of the cardiology department of Providence Hospital, Columbia, SC. She is a Principal Investigator in Parke-Davis’ ADVANCE Phase II CHF trials and in the National Institutes of Health/St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center of Boston investigation of restenosis in women. She is also the Sub Investigator for pharmaceutical trials at South Carolina Heart Center. Education and Training:
Dr. Khoury earned her M.D. degree at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, where she also completed her internship and residency in internal medicine. She completed her fellowship in cardiology at the University of Mississippi, Jackson, MS. Certification:

CSW's Maya Deer Named "One to Watch in 2012" by the Jamaican Observer!

Columbia Style Week event coordinator and one of our featured designers, Maya Deer, has been named “One to Watch in 2012” by Jamaica’s largest newspaper, “The Jamaica Observer”. The Observer’s article features “Admirably ambitious, financially focused, and buzzworthy, they commanded our attention with their intellect, power moves, or simply, the almost indefinable glow of celebrity. We present the movers and shakers, the beauty and brains, the people who are hot right now… the ones to watch in 2012.”

The Jamaican Observer says: “Rock-raised Maya Deer who now calls Columbia, South Carolina home with hubby Major Taj Troy, is one to continue to watch as she sets about fulfilling her dream of owning a boutique in the first quarter of 2012. MayaKoba will be an online boutique, importing and retailing resort wear from Jamaica. Deer has already negotiated agreements with local designers Drenna Luna, TNT Fashions, Barry Moncrieffe and Julan. “Resort wear,” shares Deer “is trending now not only as a specialised clothing style or “cruise wear” but also as year-round fashion. New York native Anthony Simons is the visionary behind Charlotte NC Fashion Week. With over 19 years of
experience producing large scale fashion shows and networking events throughout New York City and
the Caribbean. Anthony has a passion for creating quality events within new and emerging markets. In
2008 he focused his talent in the Queen City combining his experience in event planning and marketing,

WACH Fox 57 Anchor Janet Parker to MC Wednesday Night of Columbia Style Week!

Janet Parker is a Virginia native but is a true southern belle, having been raised in the small South Carolina town of Cheraw, home of Jazz Legend Dizzy Gillespie.

At a very young age Janet knew she would make an impact on those around her in some way, living out her mom’s daily affirmation “You are destined for greatness.”

Janet is a college graduate, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Carolina as a Broadcast Journalism major and Fashion Merchandising minor. While attending the university, Janet was a Resident Advisor for 2 years serving as an in-dorm mentor to college freshmen girls.

Upon graduating from USC, Janet joined the WACH Fox News team in July of 2008 and currently serves as a co-anchor of Good Day Columbia where she covers the latest local news each morning from 5-9.

Janet worked her way up the news ladder after joining the station as an Associate Producer of the morning show. She was then promoted to Senior Morning News Producer and then to Weekend Anchor of WACH FOX News at 10 prior to heading back to the mornings with Good Day Columbia.

Janet welcomes opportunities to give back to her community, by reading at local elementary schools to help promote the importance of literacy, emceeing local fundraisers and supporting the American Heart Association in the fight against Heart Disease, as well as the American Red Cross in saving lives.

When she’s not on the desk or in the newsroom, she’s listening to a wide array of music, or spending time with her family, and friends.

Taryn Scher to Speak and Host Workshop at Columbia Style Week 2012!

Taryn Scher, president and founder of TK PR, has always been driven by a burning desire to excel in everything she does. After obtaining a BA in Journalism from the University of Maryland, Taryn moved to New York City with big aspirations.

Taryn gained the necessary tools for success in the industry by serving as the in-house PR director for a luxury fashion house on 5th Avenue in Manhattan and experiencing the industry firsthand- from Fashion Week, to store openings and product launches.

Upon moving to South Carolina in 2007, Taryn started TK PR, and within no time enlisted clients from coast to coast in the luxury lifestyle genre representing fashion, beauty, food, wine, travel and more.

Taryn’s media achievements include articles and television features in US Airways Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, NPR, Fox Business News, O the Oprah Magazine, The Doctors, Men’s Journal, Real Simple, Time Magazine, People StyleWatch, Redbook and hundreds of others. Taryn’s clients have also dressed musicians and celebrities from all over the world.

Taryn is a regular on WSPA’s Your Carolina morning show where she serves as a shopping expert and on WYFF where she hosts a monthly segment called “Schering Secrets”. After styling the September 2009 fashion issue of G Magazine, Taryn was hired by G to produce the first ever Fashion Week in Greenville in October 2010.
