This is it. This is the place where the iniquitous jinn hid. Ensconced, it would seem, in my wisdom teeth. From those fetid rotting corpses, the terrible creature carefully orchestrated disaster after misfortune after tragedy. It’s horrible curse radiating from these holes in my teeth. Now they are gone. Plucked from their places, leaving nothing but a couple of gapping tender wounds. Good bye, and good riddance.

“Except you can’t show a topless woman on TV - and you can’t defibrillate a woman in a bra. So victims of heart attacks on TV are *always* male. Did you know that a woman having a heart attack is more likely to have back or jaw pain than chest or left arm pain? I didn’t - because I’ve never seen a woman having a heart attack. I’ve been trained in CPR and Advanced First Aid by the Red Cross over 15 times in my life, the videos and booklets always have a guy and say the same thing about clutching his chest and/or bicep.

And people laugh when I tell them women are still invisible in this world.”

I love this man

ThIs man has seen me get into UC Berkeley, get interviewed by the New York Times, move across the country…twice, give birth to our child, navigate our way through Rome, swim in the warm Hawaiian ocean at dawn, and countless other wonderful and horrible things over the past 6 years that we’ve known each other.

Four years ago today, we said our “I do-s” and began our life together as Mr. and Mrs. Cole. Here is a copy of the vows we wrote, and then recited to each other.

Do you promise to accept the qualities, abilities, and outlook on life that make David who he is?

Do you promise to respect David as a person with his own interests, desires, and needs, and to realize that those are sometimes different, but no less important than your own?

Do you promise to keep yourself open to David?

Will you hang up your washing next to David’s?

And finally, do you promise to love David in good times and in bad, with all you have to give and all you feel inside?

Before I met him, I never could have imagined that I would love, respect, and admire one person so much. But here we are. I am forever blessed to have chosen (and been chosen) to spend my days with such a peach of a man.

So, here’s to you Iron Davy Cole. Your intelligence, charm, humor, and debonairness continue to amaze and impress me. I wanted to write something more….insightful & appreciative, but our child has awoken from his nap and is having none of this “waiting for me to do my thing” business. So, I’ll just say I love you to the max. Happy four year anniversary BF.
