Eat dinner. On a two show day, I often eat dinner twice. Naturally, I call them “first dinner” and “second dinner.”

When in Barcelona, I received a wonderful care package with nut butters, T-shirts, and kind words. Almond butter is like a four letter word outside of the US.

Hey man, I LOVE Cirque du Soleil, especially Varekai when I saw it in London in the Royal Albert Hall! I do physical comedy, mime, acting and dance myself and would love to perform under their Grand Chapiteau sometime in the future... If I get there :/ I was wondering, is there any pre-show warm ups/routines you do to get yourself into character or ready for the show? Cheers man, Luke x

To get ready for the show, I roll around on the ground, do some “noalates” (which is my silly version of Pilates), listen to music while applying the hour long makeup process, then make myself laugh, bark like a rabid dog, make stupid sounds, open my eyes really wide and look intensely and everything, then stretch or groove anything else that needs it. AND last but not least, I say, “F@#K IT” and go on. All my best to you and your journey!

In an attempt to get back on the blogging bandwagon here in Barcelona after more than a month hiatus, I think it best to first sum up Zurich, Switzerland. The audiences were nice, the city was clean and had efficient public transportation, the people were well educated and cultured, and the cost of living was extremely high. What’s not to like? Other than the terrible cold / flu that I had for the majority of the time there I saw the season change to autumn and the beautiful fall colors emerge especially notable on a trip up to Mount Titlis. (no, I didn’t make that name up!) Other highlights were meeting some fantastic people and making new friends.

And people say America is violent. Next stop, Taiwan!...

I just clicked the “donate” button on the GiveMN website to give to Live Action Set, the Minneapolis-based physical theater company I co-founded and currently act as Artistic Director when I’m not acting as a goofball with Cirque du Soleil. It is Give to the Max day in Minnesota, and for those of you who don’t know, that means that a percentage of total donations to our cause will be matched by other funding sources. So is a great day to see your contribution go further. Give to the Max day ends in 5 hours at 11:59 PM CST and I’ve been struck with appreciation as I take stock of those who have donated already.

Being on the road, I am lucky to have perspective on what’s important. Friends, family, and a place to call home. I love my job on tour with the circus and I wouldn’t trade it for anything, but I also love feeling that I have a home in Minnesota and people have not forgotten about my intent to create share work of artistic excellence.

Much of my free time is spent planning shows and events for Live Action Set and discussing projects with directors who will create work that will fulfill the mission of the company. I’m happy to say that this coming year, and those to follow, won’t disappoint anyone.

Looking forward to coming home in January for a few days and making snow angels, seeing through frozen eyelashes, and feeling warm hearts.
