Artistic squads from Next Dimension Gymnastic Academy (NDGA) brought home 17 medals from the Meapa Invitational Competition in Gravesend.

Cienna Kwayie from the Key Steps five to six-year-old category finished first in Floor, Vault and in her age group. She was part of NDGA Team C, which also included Sara Beal, Lucy Gaffney and Amy Maag, who won the overall event, while NDGA Team B took silver. Sara Beal from the Intermediate 11 to 14-year-old group placed second overall and Annie-Mai Lucas finished third in the Novice 10 to 11-year-old category.

Iona Dunkerley topped the leaderboard for Bars and Beam and came first overall for the Modified Level 6 12-year-olds. Sophie Chuter took gold in Floor and finished second overall in the Modified Level 4 (over-14s) while Chelsea Borrego-O’Callaghan placed first in Vault and came third overall. Holly Silver and Florence Sheppard each took home the bronze in Floor and Vault, while NDGA was awarded bronze in the team event.

Women’s Artistic Head Coach, Amy Battell, said: “These are great results and I’m extremely proud of the team’s hard work and positive attitude throughout the competition. Well done to all the gymnasts and keep up the hard work!”

Which waitress reminds us of a spitting image? That would be the one who delivered the starter course to a very stroppy lady customer and on later collecting the empty plate, turned and remarked to colleagues: “She’s actually eaten it.” That’ll teach you to upset the staff, madam.

Why is this driving instructor red faced? Because on backing his branded company car out of the family drive, he bumped into his wife’s 4×4 parked in the road outside. She, of course, never mentioned the cause of the large dent to anyone. Yeah, right!

Why was this young entrepreneur taken aback? Answer: He was refused entry to a top hotel for being somewhat unsteady on his feet. The irony is he oversees an establishment from which many are ejected or left on the doorstep.

Who really needs to mend their ways? That would be the larger than life businessman who yet again has apparently failed to meet his financial obligations and finds himself out of office, so to speak. Can a leopard change its spots? We fear not!

Why does this hotel need to be more considerate when interviewing potential staff? Because the grilling takes place, using loud voices, in the public lounge, much to the discomfort of hotel guests. Hardly makes a good impression on job seekers.

Who’s a born romantic? That would be the media man (known as ‘Biggles’) who took his new girlfriend to Finland for a tour of aircraft museums. Mind you, he did offer to pay the £6 entrance fees. Latest word is the pair are still an ‘item’. Ah well, everyone’s different.

Why is this publican being ribbed by his regulars? Because he publicly declared he was moving out of the flat above the bar to live with his long-term girlfriend, only to be seen days later sneaking back up the stairs with his suitcase. Apparently the love of his life found out about his dalliance with a barmaid and sent him packing.

Why did this young lady blush? Because her casual approach to the male species caught up with her at a local hostelry. Sitting separately at nearby tables were no fewer than four chaps of whom she had an intimate knowledge. Ships in the night and all that. The girl made her excuses and left.

Who got a rude awakening? That would be the young woman who enjoyed a party at a friend’s house just a tad too much. She suffered nasty burns to her legs after “falling asleep” in the bathroom up against a rather hot radiator.

On Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19 at Tenterden station, the annual 1940s weekend will transport visitors back to wartime Britain with a Spitfire display, foot-tapping period music and dance, fire fighting demonstrations, classic vehicles and plenty of intriguing characters in 40s costume. Plus, there’s the chance to enjoy unlimited steam train travel in beautifully restored vintage carriages and there’ll be more entertainment at the Northiam and Bodiam stations.

Tickets cost £16/£15/£11. Call 01580 765 155 or visit www.kesr.org.uk
