Carted myself off to the hospital today and went through the normal routine of having my ECG ^» 02 then waited around to see the specialists.

Was a little disappointed it took that long to actually get seen by the specialist - usually it is a quick process and rather smooth or fluid in-and-out experience. Today not so much.

I would say that the ECG was routine but I would have to put quotes around that word "routine" because I do present an abnormal ECG due to my LBBB and um um um something else fancy term that shows up.

The squiggles usually look like funny squiggles and nothing else showed up new, which is a good thing, plus I was in Normal Sinus so that is A+ in my book.

The meeting with the specialists was cool. They hung this "receiver" attached to a briefcase syle laptop, around my neck and it started to receive the data being sent from my ICD.

They downloaded and analyzed the data that had been collected and then made some adjustments to the device and what it does and how it reacts to my physiology.

This is what I have affectionately called my firmware upgrade and I am now turnipHed 2.0.

Did get to have the chance to have a few things explained to me, interpret some of the sensations I have been having, why I get light-headed, why my heart feels like it races etc.

The one setback from today is that it appears that the damage from the rupture during surgery has not fully healed and we have to wait longer to complete the "full installation".

However, with my strong insistence we have already set a date for my next ICD follow-up which will include all pre-op procedures and I will be slotted for a surgery date shortly that will be close to after this next appointment.

Lots of people have asked if I am "ok" today and yes I am ok, it is just different. In fact it just kicked in right now for a couple seconds. Not much has really changed, I still get tired fast and need to rest a lot but I am still here and breathing so I take that as a very good sign and I am happy with that for now. ^» 03

So there we have it folks...can not thank all of you enough for your concern, thoughts, support, humour and love.

I want to extend a HUGE thank you for all the well wishes and support I have received from all of you. It has been so comforting and over whelming to receive so much love and support from all over. I want you all to know how much it is truly appreciated.

Well I have been home for a couple of days but needed to take the time to rest and recover.  I have been pretty much sleeping for the last 2 days as I have been just completely exhausted. Not to mention super sore and stiff.

It is so very true that you do not know how much you use a muscle until it is hurt or injured.

So here is what happened…

We went to the hospital way early.  I would say bright and early but the flipping sun was not even up yet and it was miserably cold.

Took forever to get through all the pre-op preparation stuff.  Plus I found out that my procedure was going to be done in a new operating room and the team had to set it up for them before I was brought in.

Jumping ahead, was taken into the OR and met the team that was going to be taking care of me.  I have to say that they were a bunch of great people with amazing humour and really put me at ease.  I wasn’t really nervous other than not really knowing how things were going to pan out.

The IV lines were started and I was strapped down to the table. 

I was not knocked out for the procedure, told I would be sedated and most people fall asleep under this sedation.  Well I was not so lucky.  I had not gotten much sleep the night before ^» 01 so I was hoping the sedation would “push me over the edge” and I would fall asleep.

No such luck, in fact I didn’t feel sedated at all.

Took a lot to freeze me on top of being fully awake.  Which was not pleasant, I will openly admit that!

So anyway to stop rambling along here…

The first 2 wires went in rather easily.  One sits in a chamber at the top of my heart and one sits in a chamber at the bottom of my heart and these are the wires to facilitate defibrillation, which will shock my heart back into a normal rhythm when I start to go all wonky.  This is not at all unlike what you see in movies and TV shows where they put the paddles on a patient and shock him or her.

However, what I really needed from the procedure was a third wire which was to be fed into my heart and then out through a blood vessel on the back of my heart that wraps around and sits on the left ventricle ^» 02 which would be there to give my heart a shock every time it would beat to replace the impulse that should be there naturally but because of my LBBB ^» 03 does not happen.

Basically, this would make my heart beat fuller and take the burden off.  This is what would drastically improve the way I feel, improve my energy and reduce the symptoms of my heart failure.

Unfortunately, when the wire was inserted into the vessel it tore and started to bleed into the sac that surrounds the heart which then put extra pressure on my heart, basically squeezed my heart so it couldn’t beat or pump the blood.

Let me tell you that was more pain than I have ever experienced in my life before.  If I thought my first episode was painful this was a whole new eye opening. 

We had to remove the wire and stop the procedure.

So the battery part of the device was attached to the 2 wires already in place and then tucked away under the muscle and I was closed up.

So I am part way there.  Unfortunately, this 3rd wire was the really really really important one that I needed.

We now have to wait for this vessel to fully heal before we can proceed again.  So I have to wait 6 to 8 weeks for this to happen.

I did have an ECHO the next day and it showed that the vessel had stopped bleeding so that is a good sign.  I have been instructed to not take my blood thinners for a week to be sure I do clot fully and start the healing process.

So, I have been laying very low.  Lots of time on the couch, catching up on TV.  It really is about all I can do.  I am restricted on what I can do with my left arm as I need to be very careful to not dislodge the 2 wires that are there now.

Let me tell you that pulling on your socks with one hand is NOT easy!

So that’s what happened.  Kind of farther ahead but not really. 

It is a little frustrating.

There have been a couple of developments this week that I wanted to share with you, I would have gotten them up earlier however, I have been just so flipping exhausted that this is the first time I have felt like sitting up at my desk.

Went for a routine check up with my doctor last week and was feeling like full on shit.  No energy whatsoever, even if I would sleep all night and tons during the day.

Turns out I was having a bad reaction to the recent change in my meds and with my weakened condition picked up a nasty infection as well.

So we changed my meds again, pumped me full of anti-biotics and then doctor put me on orders to get to bed and stay there until my surgery.

So that is what I have been doing.  Pretty much nothing.  I am awake for a few hours then end up needing a nap, so I take it.  Up for a few hours then sleep again.

And in other news…

Surgery has been bumped up a couple of days.  I am now going to be the first one on the table when the OR opens up in the new year. 

Surgery will now be on 03 January, first thing in the morning and when all goes perfectly according to plan I will be released from the hospital the next morning to go home and continue my rest and recovery for another week.

It is with a HUGE sense of relief, in fact I just had a huge cry because so much burden, wonder, worry and mystery has been taken away, that I can share with you that I will finally be going for my defibrillator and pacemaker implant surgery on 05 January 2012.

I get to start off the New Year on the right foot and with the tools that will get me and my life and health back on track to a point where I can start enjoying life again.

Never been so excited and terrified in my life before.

I will be spending, probably the entire morning and part of the afternoon, of 20th December and the hospital for my “pre-op” appointments with the team that will be performing my implantation procedure.

After then I will have more details to share.

Nonetheless, I now have definitive dates and I am not living in limbo any more as to when I have a chance for life to start to become better, or closer to what I remember as normal and I just get to start feeling human again!

Some of you may know all of the stuff that I have had to go through this past 2 years and how much of struggle it has been. 

You have always been supportive and great at feeding my energy to keep on going.

Some things that happened to me have caused me to adapt to life with the attitude and affirmation that “this is the new reality” and you just deal with it.

Keep it as simple as this, you ran out of cream for your coffee, you either drink it black or you stop at Starbucks ^» 01 or you have nothing.

So I have a new reality.

One of my closest lil’buddies, that I have not shared too much with because he has had to deal with some stuff and finish up school and focus and I wanted to support him, well we finally caught up.

He is a smart kid and said to me, “life has its ups and downs but sounds like you can only get better from here".

And I replied, “that is what tomorrow is for.”

You don’t “have a good day” you “make” it a good day.

So make tomorrow better than today.

A woman faces assault charges after a Toronto streetcar passenger allegedly used her young child as a weapon to attack other passengers.

Police said the woman and her three-year-old daughter were travelling on a Dundas Street East streetcar at Parliament Street on June 24 when an altercation arose with another passenger.

According to police, the accused began swinging her child, as well as a stroller, striking one of the victims. The woman then allegedly pulled the hair of a passenger who tried to intervene. The woman got off the car with her child at Broadview Avenue and walked away.

Police said Monday that they have charged the woman with assault with a weapon — the stroller — and two counts of assault, including one involving the child.

This past week at work I was on the other side of that fence. Or so I thought I was until something else dawned on me.

Here is the background story…

I had a couple come to the airport to fly back home.  The gentleman, lets call him John, was in a wheelchair and his wife, lets call her Jane.

It of course was obvious that since John was in a wheelchair he was going to require some extra assistance and I was more than prepared and happy to offer that to him. 

It was not too long ago that I needed extra assistance.  Still, at present I am not the guy I was 3 months ago.  ^» 01

The checkin process was tedious because of the extra preparations and getting things set up to make John as comfortable as possible. 

By the way Jane is standing a little off to the side, trying to be as helpful as possible and at the same time I could tell she was just so exhausted.

Now I do not know what John’s intentions were, what the motivation was ^» 02, or if it was just the way he delivered but he had this sense of “entitlement” where as because he was in a wheelchair and required assistance, that everything should stop for him.

Reality check. There are limitations.  There is only so much that can happen.  That is the way life is.

Then he pulls this “card” out…

I have just had heart surgery.

Now that is the wrong card to play at my table.  ^» 03

Up to this point John looked down on me, he treated me with absolutely no respect.  He completely looked at me and judged me on what he saw.

So I asked him where he had his surgery.  Wanting to know what hospital he was at.

Sure enough the same hospital I was in.  Same floor. Same unit.  Same doctors.

I asked him who his doctors were.  ^» 04

We share the same doctors.

So I then told him that we shared the same doctors, I told him about staying in the same ward and told him that I had Congestive Heart Failure due to Dilated Cardiomyopathy and LBBB.

Wow did his mood ever change.

Now I got respect. 

It was like I was talking to a completely different person.

Now he started treating me like I was his best friend of 40 years.

So the lesson?

I am hoping that it goes without saying even though I am going to say it here, “don’t judge a book by its cover” but it also warrants saying, “don’t be surprised” who you share a bond with.

Since John and I have the same Doctors I wonder how long it will take for us to run into each other again when we are going for our check-ups?

To the dear Christian couple who were trying to act by the light of their conscience to be obedient to God, my prayers are with you.

The pressure being put on you is great, but hold fast and anchor yourselves to God rather than bend to the way of destruction.

The Word of God is still the truth and is the same yesterday, today and forever.

We Christians have the duty to be faithful to God and to work out our salvation with fear and trembling.

We are to be the salt of the earth and must try to stop the corrupting influence of the humanistic society Canada has become which calls evil good and good evil.

Many Christians have lost their backbones and are scared of being called names like “bigot” and “homophobic.”

They would rather insult God than offend his enemies.

I want to thank Evans for their courageous stand for Christian morals and may Jesus Christ grant you his guidance and protection.

Some Biblical Laws Outdated

To the Editor:

I have read the recent letters to the editor regarding the florist who refused to serve a lesbian couple based on her personal beliefs and I feel her supporters are missing the point.

No one believes that this woman is not entitled to her religious beliefs.

One of the wonderful things about Canada is we have freedom of religion and I support that.

But another wonderful thing about Canada is we do not allow religious beliefs to trump basic human rights.

If she wants to do business in [New Brunswick] she must not refuse service to anyone based on her “personal” beliefs, period!

I find it interesting that these people quote the scriptures from the bible that suits their purpose but seem to ignore other “laws” that are clearly written in the bible.

Times are tough, prices are rising, especially after this week’s two budgets, so I would like to sell my daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7.

In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Leviticus 19:27.

How should they die?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination – Leviticus 11:10, it is a lesser abomination that homosexuality.

How so?

Can those of you who follow the “laws” of the bible please enlighten me?

Well if that is the case why is this woman allowed to read and write, why isn’t she in the kitchen? I think she should be stoned for trying to show up her husband or any other man for that matter.

Not really sure where you have been, what rock you are hiding under but SODIUM is bad for you and you need to keep those levels in check.

High blood pressure is just one of the many issues that you can experience with the “salt” so I would back off if I were you.

Thank you to M. Sullivan for pointing out some really good and poignant thoughts; out-dated is one way to put it if you want to be really nice, archaic is more along my lines of thinking.

I want to stress again that I strongly feel you can believe what you want and live your life that way as long as you afford the rest of society the same respect we afford you…

I honestly have no idea where to begin with this.  Recently we have been bombarded in daily life and media, by what I have to call, fanatical organized religion fascism.  To be honest with you, which is what my blog is all about, I am sick, tired and fed up with. No apologies.

I had seen this video posted on both Towleroad and Joe My God with of course the beneficial commentary on both sides; however; after watching the piece I had to share it with a good friend of mine ^» 01 and we had a really good conversation via email after we had both watched the video clip.

Interesting for sure...not 100% sure of the case at that church, but some interesting points…

I am a believer that it is not necessarily a choice...though some do.

I believe there is a legitimacy in the fact that some people are born gay....

I know that totally goes against my Christian path but it's what I believe...

The argument is that God would not make someone gay because he is against it...maybe, however; I still believe all are innately gay to some degree...

One thing that really kind of bothered me about the DJ is the whole “Love” thing...

I'm sorry, but I do totally disagree with him ^» 03 and we can have love to those we do not know.

The bible says we are to love everyone as God so loved us...it is not the type of love he ^» 04 is trying to twist it into.

We all make choices; so if one is born allergic to peanuts ^» 06 they have a CHOICE to eat peanuts or not eat peanuts.

I have as much choice on what my sexuality is as I do my hair colour.

But I make choices on what to do with it or about it.

Simple as that.

Celibacy is a choice, however that action is often confused with Abstinence.

But [both of those are] a sexuality choice as well.

AS for the "love" issue.

OK, what that [word] should have been translated to is "compassion" and not love, for the evolution of the English language and society as well.

The word "love" is used too frequently and with almost a passing care.

I completely understand where you are coming from, what you are saying and what you feel.  I would argue that you feel a strong compassion but not real love.

Another argument I will always make is that nothing was ever written by God himself.

Everything was written by man and then later accepted by other men to be acceptable [or unacceptable] as the "Word of God", again I refer to the council of Nicea - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Nicaea. ^» 07

I know that this is where the argument comes in to play about the 2 stone tablets with the 10 Commandments on them.

The only thing about that is one ONE man went up into the "hills" and came back and everyone was supposed to believe him.

Sounds like "blind faith" to me.

If that were to happen now, which it is if you look at the folks at Westboro, the others saying that the Earthquake in Japan is because God is angry.

Do you really believe that?

Those people get laughed at, by those with a reasonable level of common sense (which I know is not so common).

The one thing that I see a lot of Christian sects ignoring, is that when you read the accounts from Jesus, his lectures and actions, he leaned more to the side away from "organised religion" and was trying to impart a life-philosophy.

Religion has been used from the dawn of time to control.  It is just another form of law, order, restriction and an excuse to judge and persecute.

No where in the philosophy of Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Shintoism ^» 08 are there edicts that call to judge, persecute, segregate or hurt others.

With so much fanaticism running out of control these days, religion of any kind, on an organized level, has become a joke.

What is going on right now in the US is exactly what happened Pre-Nazi Germany and all moderates are going to fall victim.

Just to tie it all together and back to what you said, ^» 09 this is where that woman in NB failed herself, her faith and her God, in my eyes and became a tyrannical hypocrite.

The; sick, lame, blind, deaf, leper, sinner, prostitute ^» 10.

Jesus and the disciples took in, gave shelter and food to a prostitute and Jesus went on to say; "hate the sin while loving the sinner."

There is no love in picketing soldiers' funerals.

There is no love in blowing up government buildings and day care centres.

There is no love in calling a homosexual a deviant and a second class citizen.

Funny thing just flashed across my thought process; that old adage that says, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease."

Well that got me to think, hey the part that makes the most noise is the part that has the most wrong with it.

Then I thought about Palin and Gingrich.

Yup there be two model citizens of perfection.

Glass house?  Crystal Cathedral?

So then that rough statement that is so not PC but does ring true to some extent..."get off the cross someone needs the wood"

I agree on the organized religion, and again why organized religion is not part of my belief system.

Our church is non-denominational and considered as such.

We are all Christians with a common purpose of living accordingly to the word of God, not what a religion organization says we need to ^» 12

I also agree with the fact that Jesus hung with some pretty shady characters and it is about "hate the sin not the sinner."

My good friends at UnderwearStation.com snuck this in a delivery that arrived last week with the Good Devil Zoom Thong that I reviewed the other day.

I pulled it out of the package; like I mentioned before Good Devil pieces all come in this perfect re-sealable bag, ^» 02 right there the attention to detail starts and I have yet to see where it ends.

Over the past several years it has become clear to me that you do not have to be an established brand to break into the business and create an outstanding pair of underwear.

The brand name or label is not as important as the cut, the fit and the experience of wearing a great pair next to your skin.

This is exactly what matters…and I hope that it goes without saying that word of mouth helps you make decisions on what you add to your collection and enjoy wearing, creating the perfect experience for you.

Here is how it all played out…

I see this perfectly folded, bright red fabric folded in the re-sealable bag…I say to myself, “OH what is this?”

Pull it out…

My initial reaction is “hot damn” ^» 03

At first, and I will be honest here, I am worried about this piece.

How is it going to look on me?

I slip on over to the laptop, look up the piece and here I am looking at the model and holding these undies in my hand…

The fabric feels amazing.  Light and yet solid. I am totally on board with the blend of 88% Polyester and 12% Spandex for this piece.

I pause for a moment and look at the stitching.  Again, solid and clean. More attention to detail.

My thoughts are, there is no way I am going to look this good, when I am comparing myself to the model.

I strip down.

Slide them on.

Damn, I just put on a second skin.  Wow!

It took me a bit to get accustom to the lower rise on these with the smaller waistband.

In the past I have worn low rise but they have had the traditional elastic waist band.

It did not take me more than a couple seconds to start nodding my head and say to myself, “Self, these are hot undies!”

So I kept them on for the rest of the day…here are some things to share with you that I noticed;

• The low rise cut is comfortable and if you are not accustom to this it will take you a little bit of an adjustment; however, if you pull them up so the waistband is where you are usually sporting your underwear, you will effectively create a “Daisy Duke” look and with looking at all aspects this can work for you…so go for it.
• The fabric, moves, stretches, comes back, supports and sits where you need it.
• Frontal enhancement construction in the brief offers you a “shelf” to sit on so your business is taken care of.  I did find for myself in size Large I could have used the support seam just a little bit further back behind the boys, however this was easy to manoeuvre around and yet still be comfortable all day.
• I do tend to run hot here.  I have a pretty high metabolism and it does not take me a lot to sweat and with the coverage of these undies I was a little bit on the moist side while I was out running around town taking care of errands and what not.
• I found them very comfy to just kick back and relax on the couch while watching television. ^» 04

One other thing that I did notice about these briefs is that you could actually wear them pool side for tanning, not sure they would be ideal for swimming, perhaps if you just needed to take a dip to cool off, yet you could totally pull these off as pool or beach wear.

Here is something that is important to note, in my honest opinion, you do not need to be built like the model in the photos here, for this brief to work for you.  You will feel sexy, strong and comfortable no matter what you are sporting.

I did feel pretty damn close to the model when I put them on.

To share with you on an even more intimate level, the special someone in my life was all over me while I was wearing them and that sure made me feel even that much more sexy.

Think about it, I was shopping for groceries for supper that night and it dawns on me what I am wearing ^» 05 and you smile to myself, and then I get home and it all unfolds from there...a romantic sexy night without any planning...

How can you go wrong there?

So again I just have to say this; get yourself a pair!

I do not think I have mentioned this before; it was a couple years ago that a friend of mine that was a fellow underwear lover got me turned on to the idea of trying a thong and instantly I was hooked.

I have done some other reviews here in the past couple months on other thongs; The Intymen Swing Enhance Thong and the Intymen Fill-It Thong.

So I receive the Good Devil Zoom Thong in the mail and it shows up in this cleverly designed re-sealable bag.  I take it out and first thing I notice is the fabric feels amazing. Sturdy but soft to the touch.

So of course I am anxious to try them out..

Whoa!

Wrong Size!

I decided to tough it out and give them a good work over anyway and just try to work around the fact that they were just a wee bit on the snug side.  ^» 01

Other than the fact the pouch was not ample to hold all into place I did right away feel like I was just wearing a second skin.  The thong seemed to disappear on me.

So I dropped an email off to my bud that sent the Zoom Thong and asked for a bigger size.  Sure enough he was more than happy to oblige and sent one up to me.

Again, it arrived in the fancy re-sealable bag, but this time it fit perfectly and felt even better.

The fabric construction is comprised of 88% Polyester and 12% Spandex and with the technological advances in Polyester construction these undies are SUPER comfortable.

A lot of guys think that the strap up the back will be uncomfortable and constricting.  I have yet to try a well constructed thong that causes this issue.  That goes in part with the fact that the piece is well constructed.

The cut of the thong and the way it sits on your body is perfect.  Low enough rise so you are not flashing your undies every time you lift your arms up to reach that top shelf and your shirt lifts up.

The fabric is also very light weight, which means that it breathes really well, I did not at any time feel muggy or sweaty.

I wore it around home while I was working at my computer, doing other odd jobs around the apartment and it felt great.

I also wore it out for an entire day, running errands and never once did I feel it shift, ride up, cinch, pinch or restrict while at the same time held me in the right place all day.

One of the noticeable features in the construction of this piece is how the pouch is designed to hold your junk out and up front, not only to keep it out of the way while you are moving around, standing up and sitting down but it also shows you off which will turn the odd head here and there and really you can not argue with that!

This piece is available in; Black, Blue, Red and White.

Now here is the important part…sizing!

For Good Devil I strongly urge you to follow their sizing guidelines; Small = 28" - 30", Medium = 31" - 33", Large = 34" - 36", Extra Large = 37" - 39".

Recommendation: Grab yourself a pair!  Simple as that. I really think if you are a thong lover you are going to really enjoy these.  If you have never tried a thong before this would be the perfect piece for you to try and and “get your training wheels”!

So as it appears, a florist in Riverview, New Brunswick has refused to provide the flowers for a marriage ceremony for a same-sex couple.  Yes, I just heard the needle scratch across the record there!

The florist is quoted as saying in an email to the client;

I am choosing to decline your business. As a born-again Christian, I must respect my conscience before God and have no part in this matter.

Well sorry to tell you this and perhaps embarrass you in a public forum, oh you know what, NO I am not sorry to tell you this, Petals and Promises, YOU SCREWED UP!

See I am not sure what your background is or how long you have been in Canada but we have this handy-dandy piece of paper which is legal documentation called the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms.

While you are more than enabled to live your life the way you deem fit, within the law, the catch phrase there is “within the law”.

As a business person, in Canada, you can NOT choose who you will and will not do business with unless they break the law.

No one will force you to do business with someone that does not uphold and respect, what I hate to say here as it will sound like a cliché, the “law of the land.”

Here is the part that really adds the icing to the cake, my dear Kim Evans, you just broke the law!

We do not even have to take this to a Federal level, at the Provincial level in the province of New Brunswick there is this document you may not have heard of and it is called the New Brunswick Human Rights Act and it states clearly that; “anyone doing business in the province cannot refuse customers based on race, religion or sexual orientation.”

Regardless, here is the thing you need to realise, in Canada, the same rights that are afforded you, you must extend to your fellow citizens.

I have to commend this commentary in the article, as it follows not only the provincial as well as the federal statutes;

Eldon Hay, a United Church minister in Sackville and a well-known gay rights advocate, said he still sympathizes with the florist.

"The shopkeeper has every right to her own convictions as long as she is a private citizen in her own house," Hay said.

"But if she opens her doors to sell flowers, then she must be prepared to meet and deal with the public.”

And there you have it folks.

So again I am inclined to say, “Get off the cross.  Some one needs the wood!”

There are bigger issues to deal with, lets talk about and focus on um I don’t know, global literacy, clean drinking water for everyone, access to medical, education…and in this case stop worrying about who the fuck the roses are for. ((I really hope they weren't roses, too blah))

The last time I looked, my money had the same; Prime Ministers and Queen on it, my VISA card and Mastercard had the same logos and when I went to shop with either I got the same tomatoes as the next person…funny how that works…EH?

I am so glad that here in Canada there is a recourse for this kind of behaviour, which, is not tolerated.  I wish it was the same for all the people I care about, all around the world…

I find it a bit ironic that I am writing about this now today and last night I wrote about a couple desperate to get married in California.

1. But isn’t that what a blog is all about?
2. kind of reminds me of that adage, “if it is too hot in the kitchen then get out!”
