Pacemaker is a revolutionizing music player and mixer with all the features you need to deejay anywhere, anytime. Instead of simply listening to your music, you can now completely interact with it and the possibilities are only limited by your own imagination.

This multiple award-winning device holds all the functionality of a professional set-up and is designed to deliver in every aspect of deejaying. Everything you ever wanted to do with your music is now totally up for grabs. Ready when you are.

The Pocket-size DJ System
With all the functionality of a professional set-up Pacemaker is the first product in the world that truly brings deejaying to the masses and right into the hands of the next DJ generation.

Pacemaker’s two independent audio channels let you play two tracks side by side. Beatmatching is easily done by the click of a button, and with a full set of professional audio effects and a crossfader you now have unlimited creative influence over your music. The features and the performance of Pacemaker makes it the perfect mixer for any situation – for practicing or preparing your DJing, or for performing live with full control in your headphones. Pacemaker even lets you save your mixes and spread them across the digitized universe. Any mix can be saved on your Pacemaker. When transferring your mixes to your computer, you can edit and refine your mixes as you like with the free desktop application, Pacemaker Editor. When you’re ready, go ahead and upload your mixes to our mix community and let anyone listen anytime.

The Pacemaker DJ Device
Here's how you make your own Pacemaker: take two digital turntables, a mixer and a CD library, and then fold them into something that fits in your pocket. 120GB, no moving parts, the ability to play two tracks at once and mix them like a DJ. This is an MP3 player, but not as we know it.

With 120GB of space, the Pacemaker holds more high-quality dance tracks than you could carry in your vinyl hard cases. It lets you play two tracks, mix them, loop them, re-loop them, add effects, save them share them, and play them all in real time. It has 13ms latency, 103dB sound to noise ratio, five hours of mixing per charge and no moving parts - which means it's responsive, clear, will see through a couple of end to end sets, or a dull plane trip from coast to coast and you can use it and dance like a maniac. Music just got a lot more portable.

I remember when the cables a DJ needed for a gig weighed more than this thing. The beauty of the Pacemaker is that you could mix the next great club anthem waiting in a line at the supermarket. DJs used to have to carry a record case, two turntables and a mixer. Now they just need a free pocket and this thing. What's the world coming to? Listen to a new track as you wait for the cab. Discover a new mix during the ride. Try it live at the end of your party set. Not your average MP3 player...120GB, no moving parts, the ability to play two tracks at once and mix them like a DJ. This is an MP3 player, but not as we know it. With the Pacemaker pocket-sized DJ system, professionals get something which means they never have to be without their music, and ideas can go down anywhere; amateurs get a fast track into beat mixing, looping, effects and storming parties. With 120GB of space, the Pacemaker holds more high-quality dance tracks than you could carry in your vinyl hardcases. Portable music will never be the same.

Pacemaker Features

Playback
You’re always in total control of the playback state of any track. Hi-precision functions for altering or adjusting tempo and creating loops make mixing easy. To make things easier still, you can even choose to beatmatch two tracks by a simple click of a button.

Cue
A series of essential functions for searching, setting, selecting and saving cue points as well as features for monitoring the cue channel separate from line-out makes cueing-up the next track effortless.

Effects
A full set of professional audio effects let you add and adjust sound properties at will, and the Kill-All button lets you instantly deactivate and relaunch engaged effects. Everything is laid out for you in plain view on the screen.

Output
Pacemaker's two outputs, lineout and headphones, are controlled separately. You can adjust volume and EQ for either output at any instance, and set the crossfade blend between the two channels for both outputs at any time.

Recording
Any mix you create can be saved on your Pacemaker hard drive. You can easily transfer your mixes to Pacemaker Editor, where you can rework your mixes as you like or upload them right away to our mix community and let anyone listen anytime.

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=adateinc-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B0024FAU7M&fc1=333333&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=333333&bc1=FFFFFF&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="width:131px;height:245px;"align="right" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">Pacemaker Editor - The Essential Mix Software
In addition to being a state-of-the-art music player as well as a complete music library managing application, Pacemaker Editor is all about creating mixes. The Editor is tailor-made for quick and easy desktop mix production. The Editor lets you arrange your music and work on the creative detailing via a smooth and simple interface. The New Denon DNHS5500 is a table top single media player with an optional built in hard drive or CD drive and doubles as a MIDI controller and soundcard too. Using Denon's high power direct drive motor found in their DNS3500, the new DNHS5500 has the feel of a real turntable or a familiar CD deck.

The DNHS5500 is a groundbreaking portable DJ instrument that provides working DJs with a host of leading-edge features and enhanced creative flexibility. The DN-HS5500 literally gives users "two decks in one" offering independent dual deck-like operation, with separate audio outputs from decks 1 and 2.

"Two Decks in One" Provides Twice the Creative DJ Power
Key to the DN-HS5500’s breakthrough flexibility and utility is that it literally doubles the capabilities and creative options of a single-deck unit by offering DJs an elegant single component solution, with the power to easily operate decks #1 and #2 simultaneously with the flip of a button. Each of the DN-HS5500’s two decks provides full access to all available features as well as all connected outboard devices and music library. Another key advancement is that when used as a MIDI controller each of the DN-HS5500’s two decks can fully control two players from a DJ’s favorite software, such as PCDJ/Reflex LE, Serato Scratch LIVE, Traktor, Virtual DJ, etc.

Tomorrow’s DJ Technology Today: The Breakthrough Modular HDD/CD Option! Another of the DN-HS5500’s industry-leading characteristics is its breakthrough Modular HDD/CD Option. With this powerful and unique design, DJ’s now have full control over their internal hardware preference by choosing the Denon optional (BU5501) Slim-type CD-ROM drive or a standard PATA-type 2.5" laptop size Hard Drive as the secured "internal" source playback. When coupled with the DN-HS5500’s cutting-edge 2-deck capability, DJs now have access to a host of heretofore unimagined media advantages. Built-in USB Audio Internal 24-Bit Processing adds to the advanced performance capabilities of the DN-HS5500, which encompasses its own USB audio interface (sound card), eliminating the hassle of sourcing one – and spending additional money. In addition, thanks to a special D-Sync function, users can add even more creative power by linking two DN-HS5500 players together via a single RJ45 cross-cable (not included) for MASTER/REMOTE operation. This easy operation enables the DJ to make all peripheral connections to a single player while having full control of music devices from either side.

Innovative "Spinning" Turntable Style MIDI Controller with Control of DJ Software
The innovative Denon DN-HS5500 is a "spinning" turntable style MIDI Controller with Sound Card that gives users the advanced capability of controlling various DJ MAC/PC application software. In addition to its ability to interface and control external Hard drives, iPods and other connected music devices, it offers an extensive palette of special effects and features. Most notably, DJs have access to three separate platter effects, including Brake (adjustable in real time), Dump (reverse sound without losing true forward time, like a radio edit), and Reverse, which plays your music backwards as the platter spins backwards. In addition, DJs have access to 5 superb built-in DSP effects, making it easy to build the mood on the dance floor. DJs can easily activate and have access to full parameter adjustments with a unique Dry/Wet mix control of the effects, including Flanger, Filter (High-Mid-Low), Echo, Tail Echo and amazing Echo Loop.

Another useful function is Denon DJ’s exclusive "Mirror Mix" feature, which is like having two copies of the same track while juggling the mixer’s crossfader back and forth with the other track being slightly delayed. Delays are adjustable from 1/8, ¼, ½. 1/1, and 2/1. In addition, the unit’s Play List Creation and Hot List: function lets you cerate, edit and save up to 3 different types of Playlist categories. Other features include an advanced support for three types of keyboard, Intuitive File Navigation, Pitch Range and Deep Pitch Resolution and more.

Features:

2 Decks in 1
One of the most riveting features of the DN-HS5500 is its independent Dual Deck-like operation with separate audio outputs. Deck 1 & Deck 2 can be operated simultaneously by a simple flip of a button, offering twice the power & creativity in a single deck. Each Deck layer has full access to all the available features as well as your connected devices & music library. Additionally, when used as a MIDI controller each Deck layer can fully control 2 players from your favorite DJ software such as, PCDJ/Reflex LE, Serato Scratch LIVE, Traktor...etc.

High Torque Direct Drive Motor & Spinning Platter Design
Denon’s proprietary 12-pole Direct Drive brushless motor design is keeping the art of the 110-year old turntable alive & true to its native feel, delivering instant full rotation speed with a powerful 2.5 kg/cm of start-up torque within 0.5 seconds for true turntable reaction and response. DJs can perform freely as if they were using a genuine analog turntable. Platter rotation can be changed from 33 to 45 R.P.M. for comfort.

Modular HDD
By this powerful and unique design, the DJ is now in full control over their nternal hardware preference by choosing your own 2.5" laptop size *Hard Drive to store your Library as the secured "internal" source playback. The 2.5" HDD easily mounts to a removable caddy accessible from the front panel.

External USB Device Support
Got a portable music collection stored on external USB media? No problem…the DN-HS5500 can support multiple external USB mass storage class devices direct or via a USB 2.0 hub (sold separately). Connect your, iPod®, Jump Drive, and large USB Hard Drives for easy access to your small or extensive mp3/wav libraries. Simply plug these devices into the DN-HS5500 to obtain the powerful on-board features such as, Instant Start, Seamless Looping, Scratching and File Searching, just to name a few. Supported File Formats: MP3 & WAV *Up to 4 storage devices can be connected at once. *Mass Storage Class iPods only

MIDI Interface Controller (PC/MAC)
The DN-S5500 is more than just player, it’s also designed to interface & control a variety of popular DJ programs that supports USB MIDI in/out interface, either by user custom mapping or direct native support by the software vendor. Control your favorite DJ software or your hard disk full of music all from one clever player.

USB Audio Internal 24-Bit Processing
Most DJ MIDI controllers on the market today don’t include an internal sound card. The DN-HS5500 encompasses its own USB Audio interface (sound card) which eliminates the hassle to source one and spend additional money. The internal power supply delivers optimum electrical specifications, resulting in best possible audio quality & performance, featuring industry leading Burr Brown (a product of TI) 24 bit DAC processing for superior output audio fidelity. USB Audio interface includes 2-Channel Stereo output pair, 44.1kHz sampling ranges and low latency ASIO / OSX Core Audio support

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=adateinc-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B001ETODQ8&fc1=333333&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=333333&bc1=FFFFFF&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="width:131px;height:245px;"align="right" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">D-Sync
Two DN-HS5500 players can be linked together by a single RJ45 cross-cable for MASTER / REMOTE operation. This EASY operation enables the DJ to make all their peripheral connections to a single player while having full control of your music devices from either side. The REMOTE Player has independent access to all connected devices including use of the keyboard function.

5 Superb Built-in DSP Effects
It’s here – the fully loaded DVJ-1000. Offering the same operation and layout as the CDJ-1000MK3, but with enhanced DVD video and audio playback, the new deck allows DJs to easily create and add visuals to their sets. Scratch, loop and manipulate digital video and audio for the ultimate DJ experience.

Its core CDJ-1000MK3 capabilities are enhanced by several groundbreaking features, while DVD visuals can be manipulated as you would music; so digital video scratches, loops and instant cues are all possible. DJs can perform audio-only sets while having the option to mix DVD with a powerful and versatile range of effects on hand. The best of both worlds.

The DVJ-1000 can be slotted into existing booth set-ups making it a logical purchase, fusing a high-quality CD deck with the future - where visual artistry is becoming commonplace.

Additional features include MP3 compatibility (with an intuitive navigator), a brighter and larger WAVE display, studio-quality 96 kHz/24-bit audio and several new innovations like 4X hyper jog mode and a back-and-forth loop button.

It's a globetrotter too, playing both NTSC and PAL DVDs using a built-in standards converter; ideal for performers working with DVDs from Europe and the States. Talking of visual artistry, research shows that around 70% of clubs and 60% of music bars are installing visual equipment; so there's a definitive need in the market for future-proof technology for creating imaginative and engaging visual sets.

Specifications:

The DVJ-1000 offers the standard features and enhanced specification of the CDJ-1000MK3, allowing DJs to easily add visuals to their sets. It includes 'JOG feeling adjustment' that tailors the deck to performers' individual styles and retains the familiar look and feel of the CDJ-1000MK3 with pitch control, cues and loops executed in the same intuitive fashion.

Formats and MP3 Navigation

The deck supports CD (CD-R/RW) and DVD (DVD-R/RW) media and performers who work with DVD in Europe and the States will value the convenience of built-in PAL/NTSC compatibility.

The DVJ-1000 sets a new benchmark for music portability - up to 1,000 MP3 tracks can be accessed on DVD-ROM - and provides the most advanced deck for working with this ever-popular format. When connected to a preview monitor, the MP3 Navigator makes track selection a breeze: the information is displayed on a larger screen, DJs can search for music by file and up to eight subfolders (for example, genre of music, artist, track) and seven lines of text are available. For ease, a cursor button is included on the deck to scroll through and select files.

Track information

DJs also receive more information from the Preview Output Display. This enhanced feature provides an extensive dashboard (through a preview monitor) that displays key information for DVD, CD and MP3 including: DVD content, WAVE, title, artist, album, main cue points and three hot cue points.

The DVJ-1000 retains the recent display improvements to the CDJ-1000MK3. The 360° On-Jog Display is improved by being raised on the wheel and lit fluorescently, the cue marker is larger and the 45° angle marks make it easier for scratch DJs to time their effects. The track display's resolution has been doubled and the lighting is multicolor and fluorescent, while the WAVE data and playing address data encompass a complete track.

Studio quality sound

With its 96 kHz/24-bit audio, the DVJ-1000 will be used by studios, producers and artists who have the option of outputting their tracks in optimum clarity. Connected to our digital chain of mixers and effectors, the DVJ-1000 delivers unparalleled audio quality. Another feature that appeals to music professionals is our Legato Link Pro. This digital filter applies up-sampling technology to reproduce audio information lost in some disc formats (DVD: 48 kHz \ 192 kHz; CD: 44.1 kHz \ 176.4 kHz).

Performance loops

A new back-and-forth loop button allows seamless looping in four sequential steps forwards and backwards; it's a creative feature that also reproduces a smooth progression of audio and images by removing jitter. Further original developments include:

the one-track chapter seamless loop (the track is looped continuously when the button is pressed for a second) a 4-beat loop button (provides automatic 4-beat looping without needing to select the out point) an adjustable loop in point and the back lighting of the re-loop button. For DVJs who use short video clips, the one-track loop button is a convenient feature - it repeatedly plays back the content.

Fast search
A new 4X speed hyper jog mode has been created to support rapid searching. This also accelerates the speed at which video and audio can be scratched to extend creativity. The search facilities are complemented by a new manual search facility using the Jog Wheel (at up to 160X speed) and the WAVE display to locate tracks.

Additional features

As with the CDJ-1000MK3, gold RCA connectors are included and the deck also has a digital out to ensure the highest level of sonic purity when connected to the DJM-1000 or DJM-800 digital mixer series, for example. In addition, the deck includes a 'resume play' function to restart playing from the same point if a CD or DVD is accidentally ejected.

MP3 Playback from DVD-R/RW, CD-R/RW: Allows playback of MP3 files recorded onto DVD discs (record about 1,500 MP3 songs depending on bit rate and compression technology used). 4-Beat Loop: Pressing the button while playing automatically sets a seamless four-beat loop.

24bit/96kHz Digital Out: The audio output for DVD provides a connection to a Pioneer digital mixer (DJM-1000, DJM-800) that retains the signal path entirely in the digital domain for a cleaner sounding mix with less noise and distortion.
Preview Monitor: A preview screen shows a range of information without the need to switch display modes, including: track number, time, track name/artist name/album title, wave display, playing address, hot cue point data and cue point data.
Cue / Loop Point Navigator: Display memorized cue / loop point information on the preview screen of a monitor (12 points per page) for quicker navigation and callback of stored data.
The TTXUSB stands alone among professional turntables because it was exclusively designed for the modern DJ, with a silicon rubber base that absorbs vibration and dampens low end feedback, and an interchangeable tone arm system that adapts to any DJ style. The TTXUSB, like its predecesor, features user-variable torque.

The TTXUSB also delivers versatility and control thanks to an illuminated output bay, a built-in BPM counter, and interchangeable S-shaped or straight tonearms. Best of all, the TTXUSB's built-in USB connector simplifies connection to a computer for fast, professional grade vinyl-to-digital transfer.

As an added benefit, vinyl-to-digital conversion takes just a few mouse clicks thanks to the bundled EZ Vinyl Converter software; a new program available exclusively to Numark that quickly converts vinyl tracks directly to iTunes.

Additional features include digital outputs for direct sampling, Key Lock and ±50% pitch control for unprecedented mixing options. The TTXUSB remains ahead of the game and delivers a new standard in turntables by expanding the possibilities of vinyl.

Key Features:

Patented interchangeable aluminum tonearm system includes both straight and S–shaped tonearms

Interchangeable pitch fader and button cartridges for club and battle style

Blue illuminated display provides pitch, RPM, BPM and motor settings

Removable aluminum target light and strobe with super–bright white LED

Solid–core steel top and rubber base construction diminishes vibration and unwanted noise

Anti–drag aluminum platter reduces excess rotating friction

Precise cue, height and anti–skate adjustments

It is pretty safe to say that the PDX series helped create a new level of seriousness in the world of DJ turntables. Most notably the PDX series; altered the way DJs looked at the tone arm with the release of the ASTS model - a short straight tone arm that eliminates skipping, made reverse a standard feature, introduced a high torque motor that allowed users to start up and stop real quick, and gave DJs more control (60%) over the pitch of a record. In all, Vestax built a serious turntable that was truly professional in how it sounded and how it performed.

So how is the turntable about to get better again? Well, in early 2004 Vestax will launch 4 new model extensions of the PDX series, the Vestax PDX-2000mkII, the Vestax PDX-2300mkII, the Vestax PDX-2000mkII Pro and the Vestax PDX-2300mkIIPro. So what is NEW? There is a new platter, a new look that has been lowered to 7mm - the perfect height for performance moves and accurate beat matching. A new tone arm mounting base and height adjustment system. A tighter rail on the fine pitch fader to make small pitch changes easier and accurate.

The PRO versions have a new balance system - DYNAMIC BALANCE - which actively works to maintain a constant needle to vinyl pressure at all times and all angles and on the Vestax 2300mkIIPro we've incorporated a brand new tone arm - the J ARM - a super accurate curved tone arm perfect for DJs looking for a longer tone arm reach with the performance skip less qualities of an ASTS tone arm.

All of these tables will include a new platter design and a new A.S.T.S. system. On the new “Pro? tables, there will be a new component called “Dynamic Balance System? incorporated within the A.S.T.S.

The Vestax PDX-2000mkII & Vestax PDX-2000mkII Pro are professional turntables designed to live up to the performance demands of DJ greats such as, Carl Cox, Q-Bert, Mix Master Mike, D-Styles, Shortkut, Joe Hahn, Starscream, Jam Master Jay, Mr. Scruff, Woody, Spinner, and Pogo. Compounding on the achievements of its predecessor, the PDX-2000, the MKII series makes a number of small but very significant changes that allow them to provide a smoother more accurate trace of a record thus improving its sound quality to a level unparalleled in any competing turntable.

New features found on all four tables:

1. New Platter
At a new lower height of 7mm, this new diamond cut platter has been adjusted to match the level of standard mixers and competing turntables, making speed performance moves easier and perhaps cleaner. For the “Mix? DJs the gradient of the platter edge, now flatter, helps allow smother mixes for the DJs who prefer to touch the platter when correcting a record to keep it locked with the other record playing.

2. Tighter Pitch Control
The pitch fader movements on these new models have been tightened in order to allow finer pitch adjustments.

3. New Tone Arm Mount/Base
The mount/base has been altered to allow a new height adjustment system to be integrated into the MKII series. The new design also helps to lower the effects of external vibrations that cause howling.

4. New Tone Arm Height Adjustment System
Changing the height of a tone arm increases the angle at which the tone arm and needle tracks on a given piece of vinyl. The severity of this angle results in a greater amount of pressure at the point where the needle meets the vinyl, which in turn lowers the chance of the needle skipping. On the MKII series, the height adjustment system has been altered to allow for a slightly more acute setting (more pressure), and no longer includes an internal spring mechanism that forces the tone arm upwards. Furthermore, the system now includes a visual height memory stick that means DJs can alter the height of the tone arm on the fly depending on the demands of their performance, or the quality of the vinyl.

5. New RCA Leads and Smaller Cabinet
For “Performance? DJs having the turntable as close to the mixer means that speed moves are easier. Thus, on the MKII we have included right angle RCA cables that reduce the amount of space between a standard mixer and the turntable. The Dust cover hinges have been removed as well to get even closer to the mixer.

NEW FEATURES OF THE VESTAX PDX-2300MKII PRO

NEW PLATTER
Improved to simplify beat matching and performance play, this new platter has been lowered to a height of 7mm (0.27") and has applied a flatter more smoother edge surface. Lowered to also match the mixer, the diamond cut platter is one of its kind.

DYNAMIC BALANCE
This new system works to provide a constant amount of pressure regardless of the tone arm height, the quality of the vinyl or any external vibrations. This type of balance is particularly useful as it helps create better sound quality by controlling the pressure where the needle traces the vinyl.

NEW ARM BASE
This new arm base incorporates a new height adjustment system that accurately allows users to set the arm height and to return to a preferred height setting more easily. The floating suspension system has been noted as the most superior anti-howling feature available on any turntable.

FINE PITCH
Fast and accurate beat matching adjustment with a 100mm (3.93") +/?10% fine pitch control fader, without the center indent. The fader movement on this new model has been tightened in order to allow smaller and more accurate pitch adjustments. The Ultra Pitch Fader controls the pitch range by +/?50%. Combined with the fine pitch fader, a total pitch control of +/?60 % is possible.

DIRECT DRIVE MOTOR
From zero to desired RPM in 0.5 seconds, the PDX-2000's original high torque direct drive DC motor enables to be one of the fastest start-up turntables in the industry. This powerful motor is controlled by an accurate digital servo, allowing any pitch adjustment instantaneously operative to allow the user for an easier and more accurate mix.

FUTURISTIC BODY
Shying away from tradition, the newly designed futuristic body of the Mk? captures the heart of innovation and design. The high-density molded body provides the best possible acoustic sounds and the highest reduction possible from feedback.

INSULATING FEET
The feet on the PDX series are made of molded polyacetal plastic which assists to reduce the effect of external vibrations. Limiting the effects of external vibrations result in a better sound with less feedback and/or howling.

J ARM
The J-Arm has been specifically designed for genres such as house and techno DJs who prefer the feel and track of a longer reaching tone arm but the performance and skip less tracking of a PDX turntable. Coupled with the new dynamic balance system, this tone arm provides a warm and accurate track that is great for long mixes and loud environments while keeping the aesthetics of the old.

DIGITAL DISPLAY
This display, which reflects the pitch setting to one decimal place, will show positive and negative pitch changes up to 60%. This kind of display is perfect for beat matching and accurate routine performances involving pitch settings. A feature used and performed with any genre.

PITCH BEND
A pitch bend feature lends either 1,2,3 or 6% momentary control over the current playing pitch of the turntable. Pitch bend is especially useful when trying to lock playing speeds of one track to another smoothly and with accuracy.

FLAT REAR SURFACE
For performance DJs it is important that the position of the turntable be as close to the mixer as possible. Thus the new PDX models have a smooth rear face with recessed RCA connectors so that the turntable can be placed flat against the mixer (or each other)
In a nutshell, the X² is the CDX and TTX combined in a neat and good-looking package with a few key differences: the CD section has no built-in effects, the vinyl section has no key lock or 78RPM (Who uses that anyway, right? But you can still do it with 45RPM +73% pitch.) And there's no digital output or MIDI at all. It's basically a no-nonsense, professional-quality CD, MP3, and vinyl player in one unit. I like to think of it as the ultimate transition device, since it can play everything from the oldest vinyl to the newest computer-based DJ software (using control records and/or CDs, preferably the latter.)

Getting all the basics out of the way, you've got dual start-stop buttons, 6/12/25/100% pitch ranges, adjustable braking & starting torque (0-6s,) adjustable scratch modes as on the CDX (for crossfader-less scratching,) CD program mode (to pre-select tracks to play in order,) key lock (for CD & MP3 only,) interchangeable straight & S-shaped tone arms, reverse & bleep switch, 45RPM adapter holder, BPM counter with beat LEDs, single ("auto cue" on CDJs) & continuous play modes.

Let me first mention that if vinyl is your main thing and you're looking for the best vinyl deck, you should really go with the Stanton STR8-150 or ST-150, as I consider those to be the best 'tables ever made. (They use the same floating magnetic drive system as the Technics only with higher torque, and they have key lock, digital out, 78RPM, etc. and are very heavy and rock-solid. Plus they come with a pre-mounted cartridge.) Don't get me wrong: the X² is a very good vinyl deck and you'll be very happy with its performance, it just lacks those couple of features to make it a great vinyl deck. (I ended up deciding to take the vinyl feature hit in exchange for more CD control in an all-in-one unit which cuts down on my load by two cases.) That said, the X² does feature interchangeable (straight & S-shaped) tonearms like its brethren, so it does have that advantage over the Stantons.

The X² has a CD-only drive (i.e. no DVDs.) It plays CD-Rs, CD-RWs (with difficulty, after warming up for a couple minutes) and of course pressed (store-bought) CDs. It accepts standard 12cm CDs as well as 8cm "mini" CDs (just insert them at the center of the drive by the LED.) Avoid non-round discs as they could get stuck. The discs can be regular (Red Book) audio CDs or MP3 data CDs. Numark says to avoid variable bit-rate (VBR) MP3 files but they seem to play just fine. (I only saw weird glitches when searching a long way through one.) It's always good practice to burn CDs you're going to use at a gig at the slowest speed possible no matter what it says on the disc. This causes a greater optical difference between the 1s and 0s on the media and makes it much easier for any drive (especially older ones) to read reliably. (It also increases the longevity of the data when exposed to light.) With MP3s, the X² will display the file name but no ID3 tag info, unfortunately.

There's no folder navigation either: the X² just goes through all the folders on the disc and numbers each playable file as it encounters them. You simply rotate the select knob to the file number/name you're looking for. You're limited to +50% pitch control while using MP3s, but can still go to -100%. Seeking/searching is a bit sketchy with MP3s of either type (compared to audio CD tracks) in that it'll take half a second to respond to a button press, play a bit of audio, then silence for a quarter second as it seeks, then a bit of audio, etc. (This is due to the fact that MP3s need to be decoded in "chunks" (especially with VBR files) and it takes a fair bit of computing power.) But scratching, backcueing, etc. all work just as well with MP3s as CDs (thanks to buffering.) You don't want to backcue too far though or you'll run out of buffer and just hear silence until the unit catches up.

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=adateinc-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B000RGXX7O&fc1=333333&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=333333&bc1=FFFFFF&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="width:131px;height:245px;"align="right" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">A nice feature of the X² (and the CDX from whence it came) is the ability to change the key of the music (on CD & MP3 only) independent of the tempo. This lets you create harmonically-correct mixes, which are more pleasing to listen to. (Unless you're doing a Halloween party or something and dissonance is desired. ;) ) You do this just by holding down the Key Lock button and rotating the select knob to the desired key, relative to the original. Each click of the knob (and number in the display) is a half-tone. E.g. C to C#, E to F, Ab to G, etc. The selectable range is -64 down to +24 up.) When you release the button, the key change takes effect.

Another good time to use this is if you're playing an overly repetitive song (or running a loop) and want to make it a bit less monotonous: change the key 3 half-tones up to increase the apparent energy but still be in harmony with the original. This new key can also be locked just by pressing & releasing the key lock button (a lock symbol shows in the display.) Then the pitch slider only changes the tempo. A word on scratching with the key lock: it locks the key of the back scratch as well! Normally this isn't want you want (so make sure key lock is off before you bust out the moves,) but it can be used as an interesting variation.

First thing of note-out of the box the DZ may be one of the sexiest machines ever to hit the DJ world. With an almost laser disc-like shine to it’s platter and a an equally beautiful screen, one can’t help but be in awe of how many things the designers got right.

Surrounding the 10-inch platter (of note because of the fact that it is the same size as it’s Pioneer and Denon competitors which only have 7-inch platters) are the usual start/cue buttons, pitch fader, and 2 banks of cue/sample buttons, split into 4 button banks. All track rewind/advance controls, display orientation, etc are around the center display and in the top left corner sit the effect controls, split into “vinyl emulation” and “platter effect” banks. Rounding out the controls, a stop time dial sits on the rear and the eject button sits on the front panel next to the disc slot.

When one first starts the DZ, it really can’t help but be noticed how strong the motor is compared to some of it’s moving platter competitors. Sharing the same motor as the sl-1200, on first impression one would think that things couldn’t go wrong based on this fact alone. While on the SL-1200 the 1.6kg motor may not seem like much compared to it’s more modern competition, keep in mind that on a 10-inch platter it simply feels like more. That said though, any advantage seen by the use of such a strong motor is soon taken away by the simply bizarre platter assembly. The outer ring of the platter is actually in no way connected to the inner platter-the “record” actually sits on a separately spinning platform that feels quite laggy when compared to the platter. The “record” itself isn’t even needed, as it is held to the real control platter by 2 pins, and really only seems to serve an ascetic purpose, much like a fake maple veneer on a cheap Les Paul knockoff. Remove it and except for looks and a couple small holes in the platter, you really lose nothing.

On forward and backward movements, there is a noticeable “click” of dead space, where it seems like the platter isn’t even responding to your movements. Doing uzi’s almost confirms this-what should sound like short bursts instead sounds like a garbled mess. Stabs/drumming fare little better, as the platter has a noticeable drrrraaagg when getting back up to speed. The only cuts that really do not seem to be effected by the laggy platter action are tears and other cuts where your hand does not leave the platter much. Speaking of cuts, while the platter size is 10 inch, due to the screen position the usable platter space may actually be less than it’s 7 inch competition!!

While the platter does have a visual indicator for cueing, one has to be careful not to completely rely on this small black line, as the engineers seem to have thrown a stopgap in to compensate for the laggy platter response, called “instant response”. When engaged, there is no drag up upon start, and the formerly useless reverse feature (about as far from instant as one can get) become instant, and at first the response to the play/pause buttons feels noticeably zippier. That said though, while the audio response to your button presses is instant, the platter response is not! Cue points are lost, making any benefit from the instant response button a wash with what your lose.

As for how it sounds, well……fast cuts sound just fine, I will say that. On closer inspection of slow speed movements though, I noticed digital artifacts that were almost as bad as some first generation scratchable CD players, almost reminding me of how Final Scratch 1.0 sounded. Also, while it has been beat into the ground, I have to mention the oft-complained about key correct/scratch flaw. When you scratch with the key correct turned on, it sounds like digital garbage, pure and simple, making using it when doing scratch/trick mixing a nono.

Well, we have established it’s flaws when scratching, but what about all the mix DJ’s who always wanted a digital 1200? Does it far any better? Well, the answer is “sort of”. One thing I have to mention is that the cue system may be the best ever to appear on a DJ CD player, bar none. Instead of setting the cue point through a shared loop button or through an odd system of pausing/starting, the cue points are set simply with a “record” button. Really, it blows my mind that no one thought of this before as it really is amazing how easy it can make life. The record button is also shared with the hot start/sampler section, making recording samples/hot cues super intuitive. Sample volume and length can be controlled from the main menu, and any record movements can be recorded in real time. Samples and cue points can even be saved on an SD card for travel, which is notable in that currently only the CDJ1000 offers this same facility. If we were basing this review on the cue section, the DZ would receive a 8, no question. It would receive a 10, but somehow they forgot to include the ability to edit seamless loops from within the loop, which has been a staple since the first introduction of seamless looping!!

The effects section is an interesting beast, as many reviews I have read state that the effects cannot be edited which is simply not the case. They can be edited and sound quite good, though to edit them you need to actually turn the CD player over from vinyl to CDJ mode, which makes the platter function only as an effect jog (pitch bending is not available, unlike other players with “CDJ” modes). It is also best to plan pre-song if you will use the effects or not, as once within a song if you switch the song will suddenly stop! How they made this oversight is beyond me, as it makes DJ’s choose effects over scratching. <iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=adateinc-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B00029BQ9I&fc1=333333&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=333333&bc1=FFFFFF&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="width:131px;height:245px;"align="right" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">While some of the effects, such as the pan (self explanatory) and the air hammer (transform) effect are kind of lame, the TT WAH is a decent enough filter, and the One Way effect is similar to the Denon “forward scratch” mode. As for the “Vinyl Simulation” modes, really these are eq curves based on various sounds such as playing your music through a telephone, or a bass boost mode which is somehow labeled “1200”. While I am sure some DJ out there will find these effects to be the bee’s knees, really I have a hard time finding any use.

I really wanted to write this review and tell you that everyone was wrong, that the DZ1200 is amazing and that it is the player that Technics should have made years ago. That said it in some ways feels like a group of engineers got together in a room with a couple pages of notes on what they heard DJ’s want and then went about their business without actually getting anyone involved in the actual design process. Built like a tank, if I were a touring DJ I would totally consider one, but for studio use it would not do the trick. Technics-now we know why you never sent us a unit. Sorry I couldn’t ease your fears.
You have to feel for Vestax sometimes. No matter which new deck they launch into the ever hungry gear market, there's always one big problem - the Technics SL1200/1210. The grip it has had on the market has been extremely hard to break and some doubt if it ever will be broken. Sure, dents have been made but that's about it.

While there's evidence that the turntable market has slipped over the years, the desire to bring out new models is still strong. But rather than bring out yet another thinking outside the box design, Vestax have decided to build on the existing market and seeing that the Technics grip is becoming weaker, they've also made a few changes to attract potential switchers into the Vestax fold.

The PDX-3000 comes in 2 flavours - regular and MIX. Compared to the 2000, there's not so much difference so much, therefore this is more of an update covering the new features. So let's see what's changed.

The old PDX range came in 2 colours - black and silver (and special edition white but not seen much). So this years colour is near black, but with a shiny varnished checkerboard pattern. Very striking it is too, especially when you catch it in the right light. When I say paintjob, it appears to be the actual colour of the plastic, rather than a sprayed on silver paint, making it a lot less likely to look shabby if abused out on the road. The construction however remains the same. Same platter, same case, and almost the same controls. Refer to the previous review on that - no point in doubling up the content.

Tonearms, on the regular PDX-3000, nothing has changed from the 2000 MKII. The same skip-free ASTS straight arm system is in place. But it's the MIX model where you'll see the biggest change in the shape of a new s-arm, aimed squarely at switchers from Technics or perhaps for people who would have bought Vestax apart from the straight arm.

The length of this S-arm has been made the same so that for Technics users who sticker up their vinyl at 12 o' clock rather than in line with the cart, the start point is exactly the same. And of course it also features anti-skip as well as as anti-skating technology.

This S-arm is something new and along with the variable torque is aimed at swaying those fence sitters and even die-hard Technics fans to jump ship. You can see familiar elements taken from the ASTS straight arm as well as trying to keep the S-arm proponents happy. And it does seem to feel like a Technics arm as well. Interestingly, the weight can be locked in place as well. Be under no illusion - s-arm means a loss of stability but only to the same performance level of the Technics. The s-arm is designed for audio fidelity and most certainly not for scratchy backspins. If you want pure stability, stick with the straight arm 3000 model. But if it's safe ground you're after, the 3000Mix tonearm combined with the slick new servo controlled vari-torque is for you.

Personally I'm lamenting the loss of the Dymanic Balance tonearm. I do hope that Vestax see fit to keep a "Pro " model in the range.

Much is made of torque on turntables. Crazy numbers are often quoted with regard to how powerful the motor is and just how much flesh you lose when you try to slow down the platter. But one thing is pretty consistent and that's how much mix DJs have got used to the feel of the Technics. Whether it's touching the edge of the platter or gripping the spindle, feel has to be taken into account for people trying new tables.

So in a bid to please the aforementioned switchers, Vestax now have variable torque on the PDXs. This ranges from the now miniscule 1.5kg of Technics torque up to the Vestax standard 2.7kg, but all with a starting torque of 4.7kg, ensuring that the platter gets up to speed as instantly as possible. This is also reflected in the responsiveness of MIDI control as well.

But according to Vestax, much work has been done on the software that controls the motor. Technics have had the monopoly on analog servo motors, meaning that everyone else has had to use digital servo ones. This has led to many saying that you can't mix accurately on anything but a Technics. So Vestax have spent a lot of time working on the motor software to give you the much smoother feel you need to allow you to mix more accurately. So now the PDX-3000s can be used for scratching and mixing too.

In use, it doesn't feel like there's much difference but it's noticeable when you use the spindle to pitch bend. On the lowest setting, I could slow the platter down - on the highest I couldn't. With my hand on the vinyl, I was hard pushed to really tell a difference though.

A casualty of the variable torque is start speed adjust, but I expect nobody will miss that at all.

What we have here is the successor to the first Vestax PDX-2000 that hit the streets several years ago. From those early beginnings, the 2000 mutated into the 2300 with the digital display and joystick and now it's become 4 distinct models - 2000mkII, 2000mkII Pro, and respective 2300 models as well. The model I've checked out is the entry base 2000 mkII. Essentially an updated 2000 with a few nice new touches - this is the model most people will buy. This review is more of a comparison with the old model as there's not much left to be said about the 2000 as a deck that hasn't been posted elsewhere before.

First off - there's a new platter. We got a sneak peek of the shape of things to come on some images of the QFO. Basically, it's been lowered by 7mm to get it somewhere near the Technics standard. Fitting is much the same with 2 screws into the motor mechanism, but generally, the platter feels much more secure and solid than the old one. There have been issues with platter wobble on the old PDX but hopefully, they've been fixed with this new one. The edge design has been tweaked as well and is diamond cut for extra finger shredding.

As the image shows, the platters are not retro-fittable. While the new platter fits to the old deck, there's (quite logically) a 7mm gap. So there will be no kits available to add the new platter to the old deck. And just for the hell of it, you can't add old platters to new decks either.

One other extremely noticeable thing with these new platters is how damn slippy they are. The old platter had a coating that caused a reasonable amount of grip on the platter. In use, I was trying to make the vinyl grip a little more as it just freewheeled with Butter Rugs on. I'm not complaining at all - it's nice to have something too slippy than not. Next up - the case has been redesigned to allow the PDX to be positioned closer to the mixer. The reality is that the lids hinge slots have been removed (did anyone ever use the lid anyway?) and angle phono leads are now supplied as standard.

As you can see, mixers can now be positioned right up against the deck. Not always a great idea but at least now you have the option to do so. Overall - and this could simply be a psychological effect of a factory fresh deck - the new case somehow seems sturdier. And residual noise from the new case seems better as well. Alongside my Numark TTX, less noise was heard through the speakers when giving the PDX a knock.

For the real gear geeks out there, here's how the insides of the cases compare. The old PDX is on the left. You can clearly see the lower motor mechanism on the right hand shot and revised rim design.

Another new addition is the tone arm base. All the new PDX decks have had a tonearm system upgrade of varying degrees - the base model gets an new height adjustment system. Gone is the spring - in the old version the spring forces the tonearm upwards with the screw holding it in place. In the new one, the spring has gone and a visual height adjustment indicator has been added. The base has also been redesigned to reduce vibration. IMHO, this new system is much better - the old spring loaded adjustment just didn't seem accurate or secure enough. So far as I can see, the rest of the tonearm on the mkII models remains the same. The Pro versions get a whole new Dynamic Balance tonearm that will be reviewed in detail soon.

The controls on the PDX remain largely unchanged. The pitch slider has however been tightened for better and more accurate control. And let's not forget the ±50 ultra pitch. This has been one of the major bonuses of the PDX over Technics.

The PDX also has a reverse play button, quartz lock plus speed adjustment for start and brake. I was impressed that when you stop the platter, it doesn't move a little like the TTX - on the PDX, stop means stop. I do feel that the adjustment knobs are too small and a little awkward but useable.

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=adateinc-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B000BHOJS6&fc1=333333&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=333333&bc1=FFFFFF&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="width:131px;height:245px;"align="right" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">Other improvements a brighter platter light and an indicator light on the on/off button. The feet have allegedly been changed but I can't see where or how. Sometimes it's the little things that make the difference but the combination of all the major features changes and minor tweaks make the PDX a much better deck.
