Renowned Motivational Speaker Comes to W.P.B Public Library!

Mahatma Gandhi is quoted saying that “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony” and Ingrid Bergman is quoted saying that “Happiness is good health and a bad memory.”

Decorated U.S. Marine, real estate entrepreneur, and nationally renowned motivational speaker Tom Turchan has not been quoted (?) as saying that happiness is any one thing, but rather that a happy life comes as a result of the implementation of self esteem, courage, and a “setting the right intention”

Turchan’s “Positive Concepts” seminars are constructed around a step-by-step program meant to shift people’s thought process towards a more positive light, and helping them to empower themselves and make improvements in their life for the better, and ultimately, in finding their own happiness.

Tom Turchan is coming to the West Palm Beach Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 2nd at 6pm.

Have a Blast at the South Florida Fair!

It’s back! The South Florida Fair has once again returned! An annual South Florida event, the Fair has grown to become one of Florida’s top rated events, as well as Palm Beach County’s oldest, and biggest outdoor event.

Founded as the Palm Beach County Fair during the Great Depression in March of 1912, the South Florida Fair is celebrating it’s centennial in 2012!

As ever, this year’s Fair is filled over the brim with an expansive and diverse variety of internationally and nationally renowned artists and musicians, including live performances from Aaron Lewis, New Found Glory, Fuel, John Anderson, Colt Ford, The Grand Funk Railroad, The Eli Young Band, and more!

Of course there will also be plenty of South Florida Fair Staples: tasty food and treats, exciting rides, carnivalesque games, a 5K run and walk, motorsports and livestock competitions, cook-offs, and much much more!

Bring Your Pooch with You to “Yappy Hour”

If Wikipedia is to be referred to as an authority on the matter, then Happy Hour can be roughly defined as a period of time during the day when bars and restaurants (etc.) offer discounts on beer, wine, and cocktails.

Bearing this in mind, “yappy hour” could likely be similarly defined as a period of time where restaurants and bars offer discounts on drinks, and additionally, when you can bring your dog with you to the restaurant/bar holding the event.

That more or less sums up Yappy Hour.

There are a few Yappy Hour events held throughout the West Palm Beach area.

The World of Beer – Clematis holds Yappy Hour every Tues., from 6pm-9pm. Therein, people can bring their pooches (dogs must be kept on leash the whole time) and hang out and drink on the WoB’s patio. All doggie related beers are $1.00 off. WoB is 15 minutes away.

O’Shea’s Irish Pub’s Yappy Hour is every Tues., beginning at 5pm (dogs under 35lbs.; all dogs are welcome after 7:30pm – same “leash” policy), wherein everyone who brings their dog with them gets a FREE drink, and all dogs get FREE homemade dog treats. Oshe’s is 14 minutes away.

Elvis Lives! and Rocks The Kravis Center!

Yesterday, Jan. 8th 2012 was the 77th birthday of The King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. And while there are plenty people “out there” that will debate whether or not The King is actually dead, it is certain that Elvis Lives, or at least he will at The Ultimate Elvis Tribute at the Kravis Center on Monday, January 23rd.

Yes, we know! It’s an “Elvis Tribute” concert, and that there will, in fact, be multiple “Elvises” and artists. But if you close your eyes and just listen, you can’t tell the difference.

Can someone take an Elvis “Pepsi challenge?”

Seriously though, if you love Elvis, then this is a great way to get reacquainted with The King, and if you’re unfamiliar with him, this will no doubt prove to be a fun concert and a great way to experience the music and the icon that helped shape popular music today.

Ticket prices start at $60.

Bust a Move at Ginger’s Dance Party!

Between the Jazz on the Palm events series, last month’s New Year’s and other holiday celebrations, and everything that’s going on, well, “on the Waterfront,” there hardly seems to be a dull moment or cause for a quiet evening in the West Palm Beach area.

Now, here’s another Waterfront event to keep you on your feet and your toes tapping.

Ginger’s Dance Party is the latest project from local diva Ginger Gowing. Its premise is simple, and largely titular: this is a FREE dance party at The Palm, boasting a live DJ, that runs from 8pm-10pm on the 1st Saturday of the month (January 7th). Can’t dance? No worries! Ginger and co. will teach you easy fun dances as the party progresses.

One of the most popular monthly events on the Waterfront, Ginger’s Dance Party has a tendency to draw in quite a crowd.

The Nutcracker Brings Holiday Magic to the Kravis Center!

Tchaikovsky’s sublime and magical ballet, The Nutcracker is a wondrous piece of dance and music that tells the story of a little girl who receives a nutcracker as a gift for Christmas, and then is thrust into a fantastic world where armies of mice fight armies of gingerbread men, and her toy nutcracker comes to life and to her rescue.

Now, at almost 120 years old, The Nutcracker has become a favored holiday classic that radiates a sort of “old world children’s holiday magic” often found in other works like A Christmas Carol and The Polar Express.

The Moscow Classical Ballet is currently performing their latest production of The Nutcracker at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts from the present through this Saturday, Dec. 24th.
