Today I just saw a real “funny” blog post and a site which started a campaign for ‘Saving IE 6′. They claim that ie6 is the only versatile, powerful and bug free browser on the earth since 2001

After reading this I have lost my words but it was not the only surprise for me. There is a section on the site where explained some reason behind “Why you should use IE6″. Let’s have a look :

Proven technology. It’s been around since 2001.

NO bugs.

No unnecessary features that use up valuable screen space, such as tabs.

Handles GIF transparency.

First with AJAX technology (XMLHttpRequest, available since IE5).

Renders all pages as they are supposed to look by the only standard that really matters.

Consistent rendering of pages makes it the web designer’s best friend.

The most aesthetically pleasing web browser logo.

Highly secure (has received lots of security updates).

Clear interface.

Used by 97.34% of all internet users according to a onestat survey released July 28, 2003.

STOP !!!! THIS IS NOT THE ALL , you must have to compare IE6 with other browsers

See Many More Jokes(!) at SAVEIE6.com

Maybe these days most of the net users doing a great mistake, LET’S START USING IE6 AGAIN

An Introduction on XHTML
XHTML is an application of XML and which is more organized than general HTML documents. It is clear and stricter than HTML and was born to replace it. There are many advantages of using XHTML. As it avoids complexity and maintain an organized form, it can be easily parsed using XML parser like applications. As a result need of resources for using this type of document will reduce dramatically and it would be used in small hand held and mobile devices.

As it is identical with HTML 4.01, any one who knows HTML well can convert his previous HTML documents into XHTML. So let’s start and try to find out the difference between XHTML and old HTML

Things You Must Have to Do :

All tags in your XHTML document must be in lowercase. So, like before you can’t use
,
or
. Convert every character to lowercase format. eg :
,

,
,
.

It’s about tag again, you must have to close tags. You can’t left any tags open. I mean if you start with
, it should be closed.
I know your question is for the tags for which you never used any closing tags. eg :
. So what to do with them? Close them with a slash like
, .

Your tags in XHTML documents should be properly nested. If you open a nested tag [tag within another tag], close the tag before the parent tag.

All attributes must be in lower case. so your will be .

The value of attributes must be enclosed with single or double quote. eg width=100 to width=”100″.

You can’t use any short or abbreviated attribute values. We can write in HTML . but in case of XHTML we have to write .

The Document must have a Doctype declaration. There are three document types for XHTML :

Strict -

Transitional -

Frameset -

Open a HTML file you have created before, make the above changes and you are done. If you want more detailed reference then some online resources may help you.
I found the XHTML Tutorial of W3 Schools most useful for the beginner level. and here is another HTML to XHTML tutorial

When I started this blog, my intention was to help the newbies in the world of web design. Not only writing some tutorials on HTML, CSS, Photoshop to help them but also provide them a clear idea about pro level web development. As this blog is intended to serve the newbies, I would like to give some basic idea of web development at first. From this article , you can learn how a basic website works and what things you need to learn for creating a basic web site.

 What are Websites?
A website is a collection of some webpages. And now you ask the question, “what is webpage?” Well , it’s nothing complex, it’s one kind of document in a specific format. Basically a webpage is a document in HTML format which is accessible via HTTP protocol. This document may saved in a remote computer , which is called server and when you request them using your browser, the server sends your browser that document. And your browser show you the page after formatting it according to the HTML formatting of the page.

HTML - You Must Know Before You Start
HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) is a well known and mostly used markup language for the webpages. It is a text based document format and describe the document structure using tags. Each tag has a meaning to the browser and browser represent the page according to the formatting based on those tags. For example if we write anything between and tags, the browser will not show The Text, but it will show The Text in bold. Thus it controls the representation of document in browser. But we shouldn’t think that it is needed only for styling document, as we can do the thing with css, HTML has also importance to markup degree of a specific section so that Search Engine or other thing can determine the flow and importance of content.

XHTML - Smarter Than HTML
XHTML (Extensible HyperText Markup Language) is a well formed HTML that also meet the requirements of a XML document. It is well formated and some strict rules must be followed to make it valid. XHTML not only supports the common desktop PC’s browsers, but also support the small devices like cell phone, Tablet PCs etc.

CSS - Make Your Document More Stylish
Using CSS(Cascading Style Sheet) we can define the style ( eg. fontsize, color, layout etc) of different elements in a HTML file. This styles’ definition may embedded into HTML / XHTML file or we can put it in a external file and link it from the HTML file. In the era of modern web design, CSS also play an important role. By using CSS, we can separate the layout formatting from the HTML/XHTML document. As a result accessibility of that document increases. CSS also helps us to keep the HTML part more simple and also smaller in size. It remove the complexity in the HTML document and as a result it becomes more easy for search engines and text browsers to read the document.

Design - The Creative Part of Web Development
Are you feeling bored while reading this article. I think you should! Because still(12/13/2007) i haven’t changed the default theme of wordpress and you see the article in simple format in a simple design. Ya …. I think you have got already some idea about the importance of web design! When a visitor comes to your website and if you are the webmaster then you have to keep few things in your mind to satisfy your site’s visitor:

Is your site looking attractive in design and layout?

Ok. You have a cool and eyecatching design , but do you think it is still easy for visitor to find whatever he searching for? I mean sometimes ‘Extraordinary’ designs may mess up your site and your site may loose clean look. As a result a visitor may spend his 20 seconds of valuable time to find out where is the link for your company’s profile.

What is the main purpose or business of your site? Who are the main visitors? Does your site’s design conform with that? if you design a corporate looking site for children amusement park then…you know what will happen!

Why this site is made for? Selling any product or zooming your profile? Does the design successfully represent your purpose?

It’s good thing to make your site’s layout in a image editing program like adobe photoshop and then code the website in HTML/CSS based on the design.

How Will You Start?
You have read all the things and got the clear idea. Now what ? Ok, at first you have to learn the stuffs I have discussed above. From where ? Ok you can start reading some books on above topics. But before running to your nearest bookshop, I’m giving you some links of net stuffs for learning HTML, XHTML, CSS.

W3C School
You can get a huge collection of HTML, XHTML, CSS tutorials from here. And the most important thing is most of this tutorials are easy for newbies to start and then step by step it will teach you more things.

HTML Code Tutorial
Also a cool tutorial site for HTML beginners.

CSS Tutorial From echo echo
This is another tutorial site and the link I have provided is for CSS tutorial.

Start reading from these sites. I am saying it again that these tutorials are only for beginners. I have write only for newbies. Keep learning, give response and I’m coming with new tutorials and guidelines.

Have you ever placed page navigation links under content? I think any web programmer needs to do this. Multi paged contents, tutorial list , product listing, advertisement listing and any kind of listing needs page navigation links. Wanna try to make them looking more cool like this one with some simple additional CSS codes?

Ok , lets start. First we have to decide where will we place our page navigation link. I mean is it a div , or table cell or anything. We don’t have care about it, we just need the id or class of the element.

Say we place our generated page navigation links in a div which has the id #paging.

Now lets put navigation html code there

 Navigate Pages :

<< Previous

1

2

3

4

5

6

7

8

Next >>

We will get something like this

Now lets add some style into our css file or in the head tag between .

#paging{
	padding:5px;
	font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
	font-size:12px;
	color:#000000;
	font-weight:bold;
}

#paging a{
	padding:4px 7px 4px 7px;
	margin:0px 2px 0px 2px;
	border:1px solid #FF9900;
	background:#FFFFFF;
	color:#FF9900;
	text-decoration:none;
}

#paging a:hover{
	border:1px solid #FF9900;
	background:#FF9900;
	color:#FFFFFF;
	text-decoration:none;
}

And magic !
This is a really simple thing. We did nothing but add some properties to the all child in the #paging div using #paging a. First we added some padding in the container div #paging, because if we give padding to , it will need some place in top and bottom. Then we gave some padding to tags so that it can take some space around it and put a border to look it more cool. We put some margin value to create spacing between links. At last we added the pseudo class :hover for #paging a to get hover effect. Please read the css file clearly, I think you can understand everything. Or if you have any question, you can ask me.
