The economy-class dining set was designed along the principles of simple assembly, characteristic joint, and ascetic visual character. Four screws, colored to accentuate the joints’ aesthetics, tie the minimalistic set of parts together. The four screws fasten four identical furniture legs to four identical frame pieces and a surface panel. The identical parts make for low production costs and eliminate the need for any advanced technologies, although great precision is still important. The furniture’s structure allows it to be stored and transported easily and efficiently. Its design also allows for color customization – one piece of furniture can use any number of different colored parts, giving each piece its own character.

Architectural Vision of the Future : Aquapolitain by HWANG Tzy-Lung Stefan

Cities were first built at the water’s edge to benefit from its beneficence, but some are nowadays threatened by rising sea level and their lands will decrease while their growth always requires more space and the surrounding land no longer allow expansion. Building on the sea is more than conceivable, especially as technically feasible.

Several solutions exist today to build on the sea, the most common technique now is the landfill to create artificial land, however, the future rather belongs to floating architecture, less destructive to the seabed, but more flexible than land or landfill to allow mobility of facilities, where there are needs, no more destruction and reconstruction, place to relocation site.

New technologies are being developed to provide the foundation for these future large floating architectures, and the first achievements are in the ways of finalization. Ultimately, these floating architectures will be different from land architectures only by their foundations and their implementation. The way is open, but major preparatory projects are still needed to carry out cities on the water.

Rethinking urban transportation from the support element of the entire city, and together with the urban structure, suggests a new era of urban mobility. In these new floating cities, water may be the ideal way of mobility, offering a comfortable and relaxing trip, away from the present traffic and congestion.

With Aquapolitain, the journey will no longer be a wasted time where everyone occupies himself as he can, crammed into confined spaces, but a true moment to enjoy, alone or in groups, to relax or to save time with activities (shopping, dining, sports, etc..) that haven’t been done.

The network consists of two complementary types of ships, Aquacruisers (or “cruiser”) and Aquashuttles (“shuttle”). Operating in tandem and harmony, they offer a smooth and efficient service, flexibility and maneuverability of shuttles can serve a maximum of destinations while avoiding stop and restart maneuvers to the cruisers, which can provide a regular, stable and comfortable mobility.

With 175m in length and 35m wide, the cruisers are the backbone of the network and carry passengers on most of their daily commute, at a constant speed without stops. Like a shopping and activities center, each cruiser carries a thousand passengers on two decks and allows everyone to find the space and services he expects from the terraces, coffee bar restaurants, gyms, shops, theaters, etc…

Real links between cruisers and the lands (mainland and floating lands), the shuttles commute between the cruisers and boarding-unboading stops in the neighborhoods. Their small size is optimal for the frequent rotations and stops required by their mission, and creates a denser mesh of lines, where the lane width does not allow the passage of large vessels.

Aquapolitain is more than just a network of urban and suburban transport is a piece of the city in perpetual motion. Taking advantage of the new urban organization, the system can provide wide waterway between the floating neighborhoods, and thus offer vehicles with additional services and much more space for passengers.

Good people from SparkFun Electronics has designed S.H.O.V.E.L., a nice little semi-horned oblong versatile eating ladle. It’s a spoon slash fork, you can also use the other side as bottle cap opener, serrated knife, along with 6-feet red paracord wrap around the titanium body. No patens pending for this design, yes, it’s open-sourced, so you can just download all the design files on their site. The company tries to show the world that the idea of open source can also be applied to just about any products, not just circuits and PCBs. If you think you can enhance the design, go for it!

X-Shaped Watch usually doesn’t get good responses from users, but we think this concept is pretty cool. If you are bored with circle or rectangle or hexagon watch design, you might love this concept, it features fresh and youthful design. The designer said that he had been working with different ideas for this watch and finally chose this shape, because it’s unique and unconventional. The LCD watch is able to display time in 2 different ways, the upper half informs you about the hours while the lower informs you about minutes. Which one that you like? We prefer the blue version.

Usually a kitchen table has only 2 purposes: a place to eat and work, Table for Two project aims to transition between these 2 tasks easier by designing a series of folds. You can use the table as a space to work for 2 people (it has 2 drawers as well) and in seconds, you can change it to a basic dining table which accommodates up to 6 person.

MANUAL Coffee Maker With Slow Extraction Speed for Better Immersion

The art of coffee making is an interesting subject, some like it to prepare it manually, one cup at a time. MANUAL Coffee Maker is a simple or you can say slow coffee maker designed so that you can manually control the pour-over brewing process in a single cup. Let MANUAL sit quietly on your countertop, and enjoy watching your coffee drips … one drop at a time.

This concept coffee maker was launched at ICFF 2013 and will be tested further for a crowdfunding campaign late in Summer 2013.

Inspired by the form of pitchers and funnels, you can see this inspiration clearly in the final product. But, instead of being just conventional pour-over coffee maker, MANUAL goal is to be an appliance. It’s been designed to be left out on a counter for easy and fast access, easy to setup, and aesthetic consideration.

It works the same as other pour-over stand where brewing happens directly into the drinking vessel. The clear glass allows for great visibility of the process while the “double wall” design maintains the heat for ideal extraction temperatures. The wooden base becomes the home for the glass piece and it fits over a kitchen scale as well.

You’ll find that MANUAL coffee maker has slower extraction speed compared to current pour-over coffee makers in the market. It’s meant to allow water and grinds to come in contact for a longer time, an immersion method just like you find in a French press.

As someone who loves sci-fi movies, apparently Jakus Tamás was inspired to design this cool Jakusa Diaphanum concept. The goal is to create his visual identity and tries to apply it in his works, but still the most important aspect would to design realistic concept, futuristic yet producible. There’s no windshield for this motorcycle, perhaps it uses virtual windscreen technology. We really wish we could see the dashboard interface on this one, hopefully the designer can update us in the future!

The product design is stylish enough that you can leave out in the open and it folds for easy storage or traveling.

The sleek design allows this dog potty to lie flat on the floor, the rubber feet prevents it from sliding or creating scratches on the floor. You don’t need a garden hose or bath tub to clean Shake, the slim profile allows it to fit under standard sink faucet. You can open the cap and add water using the oversized fill hole, then shake and empty the content into the toilet.
