The season is quickly coming to a close, but you still have what looks like 3 beautiful fall days remaining to enjoy the Pumpkin Patch with your family. This is what the fall is all about; cool, sunny weather with pumpkins, hot chocolate and a pack of fudge.

The weather looks to be cool, but sunny with only a little breeze. Wear a jacket and enjoy the warmth of the sun and children’s smiles.

What to do with all that squash! While we are called Tweite’s Pumpkin Patch, you do know that we have so much more to do and purchase than just pumpkins. One of those things is the variety of squash available. We often receive questions about what one would do with the various squash options.

Today in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, they summarize multiple varieties, and how they are used; many of which are available in our Outdoor Sales area at the Patch. Give it a read, decide what you’d like to try, and come on by to find your favorite squash.

Opening Day 2012

Today is officially opening day of the 2012 season. The Pumpkin Patch and amusements are open daily at 10:00 am to 5:30 pm. The last Adventure Passes are sold at 4:30 to allow at least an hour of fun for your family. Family Portraits

UPDATE 9-21-2012: Due to circumstances outside our control, ProEx Portrait Studios will no longer be providing professional family portraits at the farm this fall.

A couple years ago we introduced a new opportunity for you to remember your visit at Tweite’s Pumpkin Patch. A simple photo booth was set up in Pumpkinville with fall decorations for your family to snap a quick shot during your visit. Only taking a minute of your busy day, the photos then could be found on our facebook page whenever you had a moment to log on. This feature was a hit with so many of our value customers that we have worked this offseason to make it even more special.

Beginning this 2012 season, Tweite’s Pumpkin Patch has partnered with a professional portrait studio to bring you higher quality portraits of your family’s visit to the farm. They bring with them their expertise in quality family portraits as well as an eye for creating the perfect portrait setting and you still get your simple take home memory of the Pumpkin Patch. Just like before, your images will be uploaded to our facebook page to download, and if you really like how it turned out, you can order larger, higher quality images from the photographer.

We are excited about this new opportunity to improve the quality of your experience at Tweite’s Pumpkin Patch. We can’t wait to see you this fall!

In the Kitchen

The delicious treats you purchase in the Concessions Barn sometimes are planned long before you step to the counter and your eyes feast on the options at your disposal.

When the season is over and we have exhausted our supply of goodies, we begin planning for next year. What were the popular flavors? What didn’t do so well? What new item would really complement our selection?

As the new season creeps closer we need to make some estimates on how much of each ingredient might be necessary. Some of the food can be ordered and prepared a couple months ahead, and other perishable items have to wait until the week or two ahead of the season. But it is all planned out long before the barn door opens.

Some minor details that you may have never noticed are mass produced over the summer to be added at just the right time (picture of icing pumpkins). The fudge actually needs to sit for a few days to solidify so it can’t be started too early. All of our mouth-watering treats need special attention to be sure everything is prepared just right, just in time for your arrival.

In the couple weeks before opening day, the Concessions Barn undergoes its final preparations. The floors are cleaned up, lighting adjusted for the best experience, and the snacks all arranged neatly in their places to help make your decision a little more convenient. Rows and rows of kettle corn, cotton candy, roasted nuts, creamy fudge, and chocolate-covered goodies will be ready to delight your taste buds.

I think right now is the time to make myself a chocolate covered Oreo!
