Maybelline Pulse Perfection Mascara is a revolutionary, vibrating mascara that grips and coats your eye lashes using a battery powered Turbo Equilizer wand.

Priced much more affordably then it’s competitions, Maybelline Pulse Perfection Mascara allows you to create the 7 signs of lash perfection - Thicker, Longer, Defined, Intense Colour, Shapely Curve, Healthy Luster, and Perfect Alignment!

It vibrates 7,000 times per stroke and the battery is suppose to last a minimum of 130 applications or just over four months. The concept is sounds good but does it really work? I used my sister’s pictures to test the mascara for this entry …because she has longer lashes than mine. Hyukhyukhyuk.

Things to keep in mind:

• We’re Chinese so this review is a little biased.
• Chinese people don’t have eye lashes (well we do but they’re usually short and stick straight, so that basically translates to they don’t exist).
• *Lashes were curled before mascara was applied.

Maybelline Pulse Perfection Mascara

• Easy-to-use but fingers get tired after pressing the tiny button for a long time (if you’re one of those people who likes to apply tons of coats).
• Thickens and lengthens with 3-4 coats.
• Makes your already-curled lashes go straight again. (-)
• Vibrating makes mascara prone to CLUMP-AGE even though they say it doesn’t. Keep your lash combs in hand! (-)
• Can retain similar results to Majolica Majorca with a few more coats and if lashes were curled again. But that’s one extra-step for the uber lazy.
• Results are good but still prefer Majorca Majolica.

Here are shots with her favorite mascara, Majolica Majorca.

• Thickens, lengthens, minor clumping and retains curl.
• Clearly the winner but the problem with this is that it’s hard to get in North America.

I gave some to my girlfriends to try it out too and they had similar comments. The final verdict is that Maybelline Pulse Perfection could be a good mascara— if you don’t suffer from no-lash syndrome like us poor Asians. If you’re Caucasian, Indian, Middle Eastern, etc. etc., who are already blessed with long, thick and curly lashes then this mascara might give you good results and worth trying out since it DOES thicken and lengthen.

Good mascaras are hard to find and it really depends on the person. Would I buy this mascara for $15? Probably not.

I’ve given up my mascara quest years ago so nothing beats plain old Ardell falsies. ♥ Looks exactly like all mascara ads out there (with fake eyelashes on the models and all). BUT on my lazy days when I do wear mascara, I use Lancome L’Extreme (which still isn’t perfect).

  Loved how my Kyu and Young Saeng got teary while singing this… it’s definitely one of their best ballads. Must add Find because I love Young Saeng’s voice (although I wish everyone else got to sing more) and I also love Deja Vu but I wish JM didn’t try to speak English in the beginning. Out of all the groups, SS501 still tops my list because of their music and distinctive personalities. They are one of the most underrated groups IMO. BUT thank god their “cutsey” (WTF DSP!!) days are over… on with their new look please!
• Epik High - Love Love Love
  Epik High is definitely one of the BEST groups in Korea! I love 95% of their songs. If you like hip hop, check them out (don’t worry, I wouldn’t consider them a “boy band” at all).
• Big Bang - Haru Haru
  Asian guys with make up? Have to love them anyway. My thoughts on BB: they really only need Tae Yang, T.O.P. and G-Dragon, why does G-Dragon always play the main character in all their music videos and I LOVE T.O.P.’s voice!!
• G-Dragon - This Love
  At first, I found this song sooo annoying but I’ve developed a strange obsession for it. I love watching our dear little leader perform; maybe it’s the fact that it amuses me when he looks so feminine in some of their videos with all that make up on or because it’s always entertaining to analyze what he’s wearing.   I like DBSK but I think it’s stupid to have so many different names… I was like WTF is a TVXQ? I thought it was a DVD player but anyway DBSK’s got the whole package, look like they came straight out of an anime and have a lot of awesome songs including Rising Sun and Love in the Ice. They’re probably the biggest boy band in Asia although I never really got into the whole DBSK/DVD player obsession.

  Another one of the first Korean songs I’ve heard and one of the best songs EVER (because Brian and Fany sang it). Le sigh.
• Yoo Seung Jun ft. Yuki Hsu - Can’t Wait
  This song came out so long ago yet I can still listen to it over and over and not get sick of it! I also use to think that YSJ was the hottest thing ever to grace our earth except I’ll always remember hating the blue jumpsuit he wore in this video because it looks like he’s wearing a giant blue condom. Oh well.
• Shinhwa - Angel
  Did you think I was going to leave Shinhwa out of the list?
• Super Junior - Marry You
  The thought of a THIRTEEN member boy band is just a LITTLE intimidating (I mean, Korean names are hard enough to learn if you’re not Korean) but I won’t judge and have to admit, I just LURVE their music. It’s a shame how some of the best voices get drowned out though… seriously, who’d want to be in a 13-member boy band if they had a choice?
• Clazziquai Project - Love Mode
  I love Clazziquai Project because their music is very mellow and soothing. Plus DJ Clazzi and Alex is from Vancouver! I only started listening to them after watching Alex on the Korean TV show, We Got Married.
• 2NE1 - Fire
  This is one of those songs you have to listen to a few times before you get totally addicted but I just had to add these girls to the list! I’m not a huge fan of Korean girl groups because their voices can get really annoying but I think it’s the fact that 2NE1 was bred by YG! I can’t wait to see where they go and the release of their first album.

I can’t believe I waited so long to start reading this book! It’s been screaming at me from the shelves at the bookstore for years but I was always hesitant to buy it because I was never interested in Medieval England (no thanks to Social Studies class in high school). That’s another reminder for me to KEEP AN OPEN-MIND AT ALL TIMES. I almost missed something this great.

A spellbinding epic tale of ambition, anarchy, and absolute power set against the sprawling medieval canvas of twelfth-century England, this is Ken Follett’s historical masterpiece.

I think I read this entire book in one sitting, much to Boyfriend’s dismay. It reminded me of a Korean drama… you just can’t get away from it without feeling horribly deprived. Some may say this book is overrated and full of flaws but I loved it. The Pillars of the Earth revolves around the building of a great cathedral and presents a combination of feelings; it was complex, heart-wrenching, sad, intense, happy and overwhelming all in one and full of characters you just fall in love with. It totally transports you back into history. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

On the Beach
Author: Nevil Shute
Genre: Post-Apocalyptic

Can you imagine knowing that your inevitable death is literally creeping it’s way to your doorstep? Can you imagine knowing that you are going to be one of the very last survivors of human civilization? Can you imagine trying to carry out your daily lives as if everything is normal until the very end?

The Blessing Stone is one of those books that leaves you in awe. I found this book in a used bookstore five years ago and have read it about 6 times since. Barbara Wood paints an amazing story of a blue meteorite that fell on earth 3 millions years ago to illustrate the history of the civilizations that came in contact with the stone—from the first homo sapiens that walked this earth to the modern-day 20th century. It begins when a girl stumbles upon it on the African plains 100,000 years ago and thus the legend of the stone begins as it goes to ancient Israel, to Imperial Rome, to medieval England, to the colonial Caribbean and finally the American West. This is an enticing and warm story of human spirit and survival.

Wizard’s First Rule
Author: Terry Goodkind
Genre: Fantasy

This is the first book in The Sword of Truth series; the epic tale of a woodsman named Richard Cypher who finds out who he really is and the destiny he must fulfill to save the world from evil with the help of a beautiful but mysterious woman who appears in his life out of nowhere.

I started reading these books a couple years ago, the same time I started watching 24, and if you watched 24, you’ll know how intense the show is but this book is 200x more intense than the show!! I actually whipped out these books to read instead of watching 24 with Boyfriend because it was that good. The writing style is a little repetitive and annoying (be warned!) but there is basically non-stop action in the book so it’s impossible to put down. You just HAVE to know what happens next. I finished all 11 of the books in about 2.5 months (somebody tell me to get a life). Recommended if you like being in suspense but not recommended if you are super anal about writing styles (I’m not a good writer myself so I can put up with somewhat bad writing as long as it’s not Twilight-related).

1. Necklace Stand from Urban Outfitters. I wanted to hang my necklaces on my wall but that involved too much work.
2. Big black sun hat. Had a white one so I had to get a black one as well.
3. Snake-print Obi Belt.
4. Scarves. I know it’s getting too hot for scarves but I couldn’t help it. It doesn’t help to stock up!
5. Books! I’m still waiting for two more boxes but I think I need to get a new bookshelf first. Mine is totally sagging and looks like a huge mess.
6. Marie Antoinette and The Duchess DVDs. I’ve been meaning to add these two to my collection and finally got it! I needed the MA one because there’s a scene where I want to use as a reference for my wedding in 200 gazillion years.
7. Crispy Minis. I’m soo addicted to these snacks.

I’m ALWAYS raving about Phnom Penh, an authentic Vietnamese/Cambodian restaurant located in Vancouver’s Chinatown. This time I can actually write about it because I have FOOD pictures thanks to my sister (since I have this thing where I don’t like taking food pics while I eat). The pictures don’t do justice at all and was taken with a Blackberry in really bad lighting. I’ll update this entry with better pictures in the future because I think Phnom Penh deserves awesomely-delicious food pictures and not brought to shame with crappy visuals.

FILET BEEF ON RICE - Everyone goes to Phnom Penh for the chicken wings but I go there for the Bo Luc La a.k.a. filet beef. I wish Boyfriend’s mom would cook this at home everyday then I’d set up a tent in their kitchen… um, or just a futon.

BUTTER BEEF - Another one of my favorites. This is like beef sashimi— deliciously-cooked rare beef in an equally delicious sauce and topped with loads of cilantro and fried garlic. See that missing piece? Jimmy Chu says not to be too hasty, but I was too hasty.

CHICKEN WINGS - Phnom Penh is famous for their chicken wings and I’ve gotten countless people addicted to it. Mind you, I’m not even a huge fan of deep-fried chicken but I am when I go to Phnom Penh.

FROG LEGS - We wanted to order something we’ve never had so this was my first time eating frog legs and they (a.k.a. everyone who eats frog legs) were right! It tastes exactly like chicken… maybe even better than chicken!

CLAMS - The clams are so good! I forgot what they were cooked in but I eat them like I was eat M&M’s; I just kept popping them into my mouth. I think we got jipped though because a lot of the clams were empty or closed.

PAPAYA SALAD - I didn’t order this nor was I a big fan of it but everyone else seemed to like it. I ate a version of this during Boyfriend’s family party where they used green mango instead of papaya and it totally threw me off because I thought I was eating noodles! I was so disappointed that I decided to not like it from that point on.

We also ordered a bowl of noodles (not pictured) and the only thing I forgot to order was my DURIAN MILKSHAKE that I usually order when I go there. Oh well. I suggest you drink tea anyway to wash down all the greasy(ly-delicious) foods.

Bill came to about $100 which is not bad because it’s totally worth it!

If you had another profession beside your own, what would it be?
Either a hair stylist or something to do with fashion. I’d consider a professional blogger but I have a feeling I won’t enjoy it as much if it were to become a “job.”

What current trends would you like to see disappear?
Skinny jeans and converse and the most obvious … dun dun dun … ED HARDY. Don’t worry, I don’t judge people who wear Ed Hardy (haha) but I would just never wear it myself. I say don’t live with regrets… but that’s a lie because I do have ONE regret. When I was little, I had a loose tooth and was too scared to pull it out so a new one started growing behind it. If I wasn’t such a chickenshit when I was little, I would’ve had PERFECTLY straight teeth right now! You can’t really notice that one crooked tooth but still… I should go back to the past and beat myself up for being an idiot.

Describe your personal style?
I don’t have one defined style… I dress depending on how I feel AND how lazy I am that day. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with arm warmers and fingerless gloves after I found an old pair at the back of my closet so I’m going to work it until the weather gets too hot. THEN I’m going to try start a fan trend (idea stolen from Becca). LOL. BECCA, PLEASE JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON so we don’t have to suffer in the summer and in clubs when it gets soo hot. We may look like prissy bitches but they’re pretty and versatile so screw what everyone thinks.

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
I’m boring so I can’t decide between chocolate and vanilla.

Mac for eyes and lips and Clinique/Dior for face.

Do you get enough beauty sleep? Yes or no? why?
No, I’ve probably been getting less than 6 hours of sleep every night for the past 9 years. Sleep is a waste of time (which is a hypocritical comment since I’ve just shortened my life span by a couple of years).

Why did you start your blog?
I’ve been blogging since I was 12! Wonder what I use to write about back in the day? Getting “high” (off-sugar) with my girlfriends after drinking Volt and stocking up on 5-cent candy at the corner store. And stuff like that.

bravotv.com/tamra-barney - This is a what you call a REAL guilty pleasure blog. Do you watch The Real Housewives of Orange County? This one is written by “the hottest housewife” a.k.a. Tamra Barney and let me tell you, this girl is FREAKING HILARIOUS!! Her blog is funny and sarcastic and although she disappointed me last season, you still gotta love herl. All the housewives are fake to the max but we still love them anyway (except for the NYC ones… they’re quite boring) and there’s a strange satisfaction of watching the rich go through their drama and waste their money on botox and boob jobs.

You have a variety of looks but what’s your favorite?
I have a variety of styles since I love to experiment and see how each style looks on me but what I love the best is to dress up simple and girly— which is why finding a perfect dress is important. I’m also a spring girl and I love bright colours, floral prints, lace, ruffles and anything sheer.

Where do you get your inspiration?
Just like most people, my style is always changing. It really depends on my mood or the inspiration I get at that moment and lately, it’s from other Chictopian users. Some of them really have really great style and are very different… it’s amazes me that some people really have such great styles and are so creative about what they are wearing!

My latest favorite item is my black Birkin. I’ve been on the waiting-list for 6 months before I finally got it! It was actually a gift from my mother-in-law.

What tops your wish list?
At the moment, it is the limited-edition shoes by Christian Louboutin for 3.1 Phillip Lim. They are so gorgeous and just takes my breath away.

Top 3 must-haves in your wardrobe?
Great dress, jacket, and perfect shoes and you’re good to go!

Worst trends?
The worst trends were in the 70s when people when wearing disco outfits and had big hair and headbands.

A century ago, nobody knew the Theory of Relativity (not like I do now, but you know). Humans dreamed of space travel but never in their mind would they imagine we’d be able to send humans into space now (even though we can’t go very far at the moment).

Half a century ago, there was no such thing as the internet. No Lost or Grey’s Anatomy in your living room. No credit cards (gasp). No diet sodas. No catastrophic killers such as the atom bomb.

Can you just imagine what’s going to be invented in the next 50 years? Can you imagine how changed the world will be when we’re old and hobbling around with some futuristic version of a cane?

@JohnChow’s daughter has no idea what a tape or record is. Are my grand-kids going to laugh at me because I’ll still be reading BOOKS while they’re reading from some Super-Kindle that also pours you a martini with a simple thought-command … or one that reads for you (ooh)?

My girlfriends and I made a vow that we’d go to a rave when we’re 70 and try pick up 20-year-old guys to gross them out… what would “raves” be like then?

Are we going to be able to our grow boobs bigger without an incision? Or make all our fat and cellulite disappear with a simple pill? (Too bad we can only dream for now.)

The world is an amazing place. I can’t wait to live the rest of my life.

1. Martinsville Emporium Lipbalms

   Glides on your lips like butta, makes them shine like stars and they have a gazillion delicious flavors to choose from. Every time I put some on, Mochi tries to jump all over my face trying to get a taste of that yummy smelling scent; too bad for her to are all unsweetened which is good for you or you’ll be licking it off all day too. My favorite it the lemon meringue.

2. MAC Phloof

   I’ve been meaning to buy Phloof for years (yes, years.. I’m that lazy) and I finally got around to it a couple weeks ago. I love Shroom as a highlighter under the brow but I love using the pinkish and shimmery Phloof all over my lid.

3. Benefit Hoola Bronzer

   I’m always on the look out for a good bronzer and the BFF introduced me to this one (I was using Laura Geller before which I still love). Benefit has another plus— their packaging is so cute! There is nothing more nastier than seeing a girl with two orange blotches on their cheeks (especially if it’s not blended properly) so a good bronzer is important!

4. Christian Dior DiorSkin Forever Compact

   I hate wearing heavy foundation so when I do, I’ll use DiorSkin Forever compact. I use to be a real lover of mineral foundation but this compact is what more convenient because I don’t like carrying a kabuki brush around with me. It’s lighter than foundation, it’s waterproof and it makes my face look flawless.

5. MAC Mythology

   I love Mythology! It’s a very pretty rusty-looking color… I don’t use it alone but I do love blending it with other colors (eg. looks great with black for a smokey eye).

6. Ardell Gisele Runway Lashes

   If I could wear ONE pair of eyelashes for the rest of my life… these Gisele lashes would be my first choice. I own like 20 pairs of them because I’m afraid of running out. Um. Who wouldn’t want lashes like Gisele’s?

7. Coastal Scents Concealer Palette

   I still haven’t found the perfect concealer yet but so far, this CS palette is my favorite. I love how you can blend the different shades to find one that matches your skin tone and it’s super affordable. I’m not a huge concealer user (always forget to put it on) but this palette might change that.

I always want to do a lot of things at once but sometimes the best thing to do in the world is to do nothing which I have officially mastered. Hey, don’t call me lazy because doing nothing is a great way of taking a break from a busy life AND it’s also a great source of inspiration— sometimes a lot of great ideas can come out of nothing because your mind is at rest. Just remember to bounce back to doing something after you’ve finished with doing nothing.

How do I do nothing?

• Read a good book from start to finish.
• Re-organize my bookshelf. Or just stare at my bookshelf. That’s how much I love my books!
• Play with my puppy and try to make her attack Boyfriend and jump on his face while he’s trying to watch TV.
• Watch Korean dramas with Boyfriend and constantly run a finger under his eyes to check if he’s crying. Then make fun of him if he is (which he never is) or call him cold and heartless if he isn’t.
• Take a nap.
• Re-organize my make up and closet.
• Be an “old woman” and listening to classical and country music while sipping on strong, bitter Chinese herbal teas (yum).
• Play video games with Boyfriend… or watch and nag him to do this or that while he plays alone. When we play together, he usually fights all the bad guys (it gives me heart-attacks) while I explore every nook and cranny in the game world.
• Pig out on Boyfriend’s mom’s food while lying around like a slob at his house and watching movies on PPV (watched Yes Man last night).
• Hang out with friends and doing absolutely nothing (eg. girl talk).

I try to plan my clubbing outfits but it always ends up being a big fat fail because I can’t just buy a dress and it’s done, so I end always throwing things together last minute and experiment what looks good with what… which is why I’m always in such a rush before going out. Sometimes I usually concentrate on my two favorite things: accessories and make up, whereas the outfit is secondary and chosen to match the two because I like to buy basics.

Wear a simple outfit and dress it up with bold accessories and a pair of nice shoes. Shiny leggings are an option but they’re hot and I love them! I also think that wearing all neutral colors and having one accessory as a splash of color looks great.

Match colors that goes well together but try not to choose more than three (FYI, black, white, gold and silver will go with almost any color).

If you’re going to wear an outfit with funky prints and/or lots of colors, then keep everything else simple and neutral.

If your going to show-off your legs, wear a looser and more flowy dress or tone down the cleavage. Also, remember Sarah Jessica Parker’s studded belt in the Sex in the City movie? It can go with almost everything!

If your going to show cleavage, cover up the legs! Try layering your necklaces to draw attention to your bust and not look like a complete slut (since the necklaces will cover some of it) and play around with accessories like leather gloves, hats and/or ties.

The little black dress is extremely versatile but could be a little plain on it’s own. Create some edge with some strappy studded heels or how about throwing on some vintage-inspired jewelry? Cocktail rings are hot and I can’t get enough of them!

You don’t always have to wear mini-skirts just because every other girl is. There is nothing wrong with a dress that goes past your mid-thighs; you’ll be the most glamorous girl in the club!

You don’t always have to dress up and go all out with the accessories if that’s not your thing. What about keeping things simple with a pair of jeans, a tank top and minimal jewelry. You’ll still look chic and put together. Also, when in doubt, a small black clutch will go with any outfit.

Also…

• Save your money and don’t buy a new outfit every time. Wearing the exact same outfit but changing the accessories can give you a completely new look.
• When accessorizing, there is such thing as too much! I would say wear no more than 3-4 major accessories that really stand out.
• If: it’s that time of the month, you get bloated from drinking or you’re just not use to sucking in, don’t wear something like a skin-tight tube mini-dress. Also, wear stuff that FIT you if you’re going to wear something skin-tight. “Thong-bulges” are nasty. Sorry, NOT attactive.
• If you dress like a whore and are attracting attention from guys because of that, they are obviously not guys you want to date anyway. There are many definitions of “sexy” nowadays and having your T&A hanging out doesn’t have to be one of them.
• There’s nothing wrong with wearing a tiny dress but if you accessorize it right, it’ll look more than a slutty piece of cloth.

Ultimately, you decide what you want to wear and these are just guidelines I set for myself. Remember, classy and sophisticated earns you respect while skanky just earns you “mysterious” pills dropped into your drink. Don’t be afraid to wear something funky and different— going to a club doesn’t mean you have to wear a mini-skirt like every other girl in there.

• When you find great staples, always stock up. I found these great tank tops that are great for layering and immediately stocked up on them because they were on-sale on the clearance rack (2/$30) and I was scared that I was going to lose them like I usually do with my staples (don’t ask).
• Got this really cute pink lacy tie that I’m dying to wear. It’d look great with Miss Tia’s lolita hat! I was trying to learn how to tie a tie yesterday from Youtube videos and eventually gave up. Who knew it could be so hard?
• I love my huge purple hobo bag (not pictured yet). I’m just disappointed because this one doesn’t have a divider and as many pockets as the other purple bag I was eyeing (but I didn’t like the shape of that one). I’ll have to get some bag organizers.
• Saw the SEXIEST pair of studded gladiator heels ever but they were 5″ high and I would’ve never worn them because I’m tall enough already.
• It’s spring and I’m still buying scarves… just can’t get enough of them.
• The Coastal Scents concealer palette is so awesome! Totally recommended.
• I bought my first maxi dress! I’ve been wanting to get one for so long.
• I went on another accessory splurge again on Wednesday. I need to buy more bangles and cocktail rings for summer because I usually don’t like wearing [chunky] necklaces on hot summer days.

If you guys come to Vancouver, you have to go to Phnom Penh which serves authentic Cambodian and Vietnamese food because they have the BEST chicken wings (you have no idea how many people I got hooked onto them), butter beef (kind of like beef carpaccio) and Bo Luc Lac (filet beef on rice) EVER. It’s one of my favorite Asian restaurants in Vancouver!

Some people complain that the place is a little overpriced but for me; when it comes to food, you can’t put a price on it!!

Goodbye stupid QX4!! Boyfriend traded this car in so *T can buy his FX35 and I'm sooo glad he finally got rid of it! It was so useful for trips but a total gas guzzler and he rarely drove it anyway.

He's only 5 and every time we take J* to the movies, he always falls asleep but he didn't when we went to watch The Pink Panther 2. So we got him a cake to celebrate and him and his sister sang the 'Celebrate good times, come on' song with a little booty-shaking. It's a heart because we told him to choose the smallest one since there weren't too many people eating it.
