BETA Release: Now with more PPC flavor!

This is the first public beta release of version 1.4.7 and addresses some additional file/folder permissions issues which may have been causing the inability to pair or set the current receiver on some systems. There are a few new profiles and updates to existing profiles, including Google Chrome with Netflix support.

The biggst change in this version is that PowerPC support is back, so if you have a G4 or G5 machine, this is the version you should be using. There are a number of additional changes planned for this beta cycle, so please bear with us as we work through them in the following updates.

New Release: Mira 1.4.6 - Plex, Netflix & Hulu

Below is a partial list of what's new and changed. Please note that if you are using Plex, Boxee or XBMC, you should disable their own built-in support for the Apple remote receiver to make sure there is no conflict with Mira.

BETA Release: Mira 1.4.5 Beta 12 - Release Candidate

Final changes to support exact mapping of default remote actions to Plex have been added to this release. To achieve this we've revised the Plex duopress commands and created a special keyboard mapping file for Plex which gets installed along with Mira.

If you want to make sure you're using the current Plex profile, please use the Restore Built-in Profiles command from Mira's options menu (the gear under the applications list). If you did this the last time with beta 11, you don't need to do it again.

Apart from some people still having some issues with Hulu Desktop, this version accomplishes our goals for this point release and should be our last beta for 1.4.5.

This beta can be installed over any previous version of Mira. To uninstall Mira for any reason, you should right-click its icon inside System Preferences and select the "Remove" option, then restart your Mac.

Netflix FullScreen support is here for Safari and Firefox - if you have any other browser requests, please contact us.

If you're updating an existing Mira installation, you need to use Mira's "Restore Built-in Profiles" command (in the options menu under the applications list) to install the Netflix profiles. You should also restore the Safari and Firefox profiles if you want to enable the new DuoPress action for the Play button to enter Netflix FullScreen mode.

Additional revisions to the new Plex profile and DuoPress commands were added to this release. You should be able to navigate the newest Plex in the same fashion as the older version, the same way Plex is supposed to be set by default. Please disable Plex's own native remote control support to make sure Mira has exclusive access to the built-in Apple remote receiver. In Plex, go to Preferences, System, Input Devices and set the "Input Devices" setting to "Disabled."

Over the past few weeks new beta versions have continued to be posted and we've received some valuable feedback. Thank you to everyone that's written. Today's update brings some additional improvements to the installation process and revised profiles for Plex, now supporting the latest and the legacy Plex/Nine versions.

We've put up a beta for version 1.4.5 of Mira - The most notable change is for users of Hulu Desktop, where we've created a workaround for the Hulu issue causing double button actions.

Hulu Desktop's own built-in remote support contains an issue that when the app is launched or quit, other applications such as Mira that had been using exclusive access to the built-in Apple receiver will lose this exclusive access. The result is that in addition to actions from the exclusive application (Mira) customers would also see Apple system actions. Hulu unfortunately lacks a preference to disable its own remote support, necessitating a special workaround be put into Mira specifically for that app. Please let us know via email if you have any continued problems with double button actions when using Hulu.

Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 Update

Mira 1.4.0 is compatible with Mac OS 10.7.1 and newer. If you are still running version 10.7, please update your OS through Software Update. Mac OS 10.7.1 includes changes from Apple which again allows Mira and other software to obtain and hold exclusive access to the built-in receiver as it has in the past.

If you want to keep Front Row from your previous OS and use it in Lion, you should consult Front Row Enabler by Ralph Perdomo.

Orders and deliveries back to normal

The Canada Post strike is over thanks to "back to work" legislation and packages are now shipping out on a normal schedule, twice per week. There's likely to be a small delay to deliveries for a week or two while postal employees deal with the large volume of mail that has accumulated in the past few weeks.

You can now integrate your Boxee Box with the rest of your entertainment system using your universal remote, whether it be a Logitech Harmony, Philips Pronto, URC Complete Control or any other remote that supports an "MCE" (aka Windows Media Center) device.
