Balancing passions for both the technical and artistic, Twisted Melon was born of a desire to create great products for real people. Usability, functionality and design play different roles, sometimes at odds with each other.
Announcement: Site and Shop Back Online

We extend sincere apologies for the unplanned downtime this past weekend, from Friday September 25th until this evening, Monday September 28th at 5:00pm EDT.

Unfortunately (for you and us), our hosting provider thought it was a smart idea to move our web site to a new server (with a new environment and configuration) without informing us prior. This caused a number of things to break, including the server starting to serve html pages as application downloads. I'm also not sure who had the bright idea to make such a change on a Friday, preventing many businesses from seeing any problems until the following Monday - we were away all weekend and didn't know about the issue until just before lunch time today. After fixing this earlier today we were still left with a broken instance of PHP which would not run parts of our shopping system properly.

Over the past few hours I've been working non-stop to get this resolved and I'm happy to say everything seems to be working as expected. We would appreciate hearing from you if you spot any issues with the site or have any problems completing transactions.

Update: Snow Leopard..Bad Kitty

Snow Leopard brings a number of small updates to Mac OS consumers, but a significant number of changes under the hood. Unfortunately, some of those changes necessitate some reworking of Mira so it can continue to properly use the built-in Apple Receiver.

At this time we recommend that if you don't absolutely need to update to 10.6 that you should hold off for a little while. Mira will need an update before it can be used under this new big cat. Unfortunately it's also not alone, as the changes also disable or otherwise affect a number of other popular programs.

As part of the update we will also be building a new 64-bit Preference Pane for those customers able to run in that mode. At this time Mira requires and will only work properly with Mac OS 10.4.x through to 10.5.8

When a new release is ready it will be posted here to our site first, along with an appropriate news release and any other relevant information. We're still behind this platform and Mira still has a long life ahead of it. Remember, updates are free.

Announcement: My Little Melon

I'd like to extend some apologies for recent email delays. I haven't been able to get many replies out as quickly as I'd like and I know some people have had to wait longer than my usual 24 hours. Things have been a little busy over the past few months, but the prep work was all worth it, because now the real fun starts.

Last week we welcomed our first child into the world, our new daughter Olivia. Both mother and daughter handled the delivery well and were home within two days. Since then it's been a treat and we're all getting used to each other and the very new routines. It's amazing how natural it all feels, as everything just falls into place. I think our two dogs are still a little confused though.

With regards to software and products, Mira is undergoing some changes at the moment, including some significant work to get it Snow Leopard compatible (more news on that later). The site redesign I had planned (and sketched) is going to take a little longer than I had expected, but that will show up sooner or later as well, including, I hope, a move to an open source CMS platform.

Things may have seemed slow during this summer around the site, but I've been motoring around here non-stop for a long time. The site changes should also make it a lot more straight forward to generate content, including news items and future blog posts which I hope will give the site a bit more life, if not quite a real-time feel. I'm definitely not into updating bathroom breaks on Twitter.
