Sir Timothy John “Tim” Berners-Lee, credited for inventing this little thing called the World Wide Web, has signed up for Twitter in a move that could potentially rip a hole in the time/space continuum.

The British computer scientist, engineer and MIT professor apparently got on Twitter yesterday just before he entered into a conversation with Tim O’Reilly on stage at the Web 2.0 Summit.

The man uses Tweetie and thinks either the app or the Twitter website has a confusing user interface. Since Berners-Lee is also the Director of Web standards organization World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), that’s telling.

The Internet hills are alive with talk of, well, Meghan McCain’s hills. Last night, the 24-year-old daughter of former Republican Presidential candidate John McCain posted a photo of herself on her personal Twitter page captioned “my ’spontaneous’ night in…” which showed her clutching an Andy Warhol biography to her rather spectacular expanse of nearly chin-grazing bosom. The image quickly garnered attention far outside her 63,500 followers — and resulted in a rash of emotional tweets from McCain herself, including: “so I took a fun picture not thinking anything about what I was wearing but apparently anything other than a pantsuit I am a slut,” and “why I have been considering deleting my Twitter account, what once was fun now just seems like a vessel for harassment.”

Today, she posted an apology, calling the episode “an embarrassing experience but also a learning one,” and tweeting, “I have clearly made a huge mistake and am sorry 2 those that are offended.”

Some commenters were not amused, including one melissajenna who wrote, “You knew you were posting a nearly NSFW [not safe for work] photo, so don’t pretend like you’re surprised at people’s reaction.” Another said, “You don’t have to pull cheap gags like this to get attention. Leave this to the Paris Hiltons of the world.” The picture has since been removed.

It seems that Twitter has sneaked in an update that no longer allows users to Tweet the same thing again within 24 hours.

Twitter Blocks Duplicate Tweets

This update is probably welcomed by most as now spammers who love just put out exactly the same message all the time wont be able to do so. However if like me you want to announce a new blog post on your site just don’t copy and paste your previous tweet or you will have to wait at least 24 hours to do so again! Overall this little update wont effect the majority of users just those annoying spammers but just remember if you are getting the “Duplicate text” then you need to change your Tweet just a little and you will be able to Tweet out!

NASA invites Twitter fans to space shuttle launch

WASHINGTON — NASA invited fans on Twitter to get front-row seats for next month's launch of the space shuttle Atlantis from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Registration for a NASA "Tweetup" will open on Friday, and the first 100 people to sign up will get to spend two days at the space center, touring the facility, chatting with technicians and astronauts, as well as watching a launch.

The event planned for November 11 and 12 will be the US space agency's fifth Tweetup for users of the wildly popular microblogging service but it will be the first time the gathering includes a shuttle launch.

"The goal of this particular Tweetup is to share the excitement of a shuttle launch with a new audience," said Michael Cabbage, director of the News Services division at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

"Each event has provided our followers with inside access to NASA personnel, including astronauts."

Atlantis is scheduled to take-off the afternoon of November 12th on a trip to the International Space Station.

The Tweetup will include a "meet and greet" session to allow participants to mingle with fellow "Tweeps" and the staff behind space agency tweets posted on Twitter. The gathering is meant for Twitter users who follow @NASA tweets.

NASA said Twitter followers will be able to sign up for the event online at nasa.gov/tweetup. The names of 50 people will be put on a standby list to attend the gathering.

A Tweet from Twitter founder Biz Stone has people wondering if Former President George W. Bush will be the next political celebrity to join the popular microblogging service.

Stone met up with the former president at the World Knowledge Forum, an annual conference sponsored by a South Korean business newspaper, in Seoul. He then posted a picture of him with Mr. Bush along with the following tweet: "President Bush told me he just got a new BlackBerry, will tweets be next?"
