Make a pretty princess cake at home with our easy DIY. It’s easy to make yourself and budget friendly!

Do you have a little princess at home with a birthday or another special occasion coming up?

If so, you may have gotten a request for a princess inspired cake for the upcoming celebration.

If buying a Barbie cake or princess inspired cake at a bakery isn’t in your budget, the good news is that it’s easy to make one at home.

Using a box cake mix and store bought frosting, this easy baking hack can help you make a cute birthday cake for your little princess.

Easy Princess Cake

Here is how to make this cake at home and personalize it for your princess’ favorite colors.

Ingredients:

1 Box Cake Mix (plus ingredients listed on box)
Frosting
Sprinkles

Supplies:

Rose Icing Candies or another decorating favorite
Princess Doll or Barbie Doll
Oven Safe Bowl
Mixer or Mixing Bowl and Mixing Spoon
Measuring Cups
Platter or Serving Plate
Knife

To get started on your princess cake, you will want to mix the cake mix including the ingredients listed on the box.

Bake the box of cake mix according to package instructions in a round oven safe large bowl.

This bowl will help give your princess her gown.

Remove the cake from your oven and transfer to a large serving dish, placing the cake upside down so that the dome is at the top.

Frost the Barbie cake with the frosting.

You can use whatever color and flavor that you like, I would just recommend that the color coordinates with the colors on the doll that you are using.

Stick the Princess Barbie into the center of the cake. You will want her waist at the top of the dome, so that she looks like she is wearing her gown.

If you need to, use a knife and carefully cut out a small hole in the middle of the cake to make room for her.

After she is placed, you can use frosting to help fill in any gaps.

Generously cover the skirt of your princess cake in sprinkles.

If desired, you can add candy roses or another decor to decorate the gown.

Store your princess in an airtight cake container until ready to enjoy.

Instructions

Mix the cake mix including the ingredients listed on the box.

Place the doll into the cake, with the top of the cake at her waist.
Generously cover the cake (the skirt) with sprinkles.
Add candy roses or another edible decor if desired.

You don’t even have to bake!

With a little bit of creativity and a few supplies you can make easy no bake cookies that have some flare as well as flavor.

With spring in full swing and summer just around the corner, it’s the time of year for busy summer picnics, barbecues and gatherings.

If you’re looking for an easy recipe that you can make to share, my next cookie recipe is sure to be a hit with all ages.

With no baking required, you can make these easy cookies in minutes and make as few or as many as you need.

Easy No Bake Butterfly Cookies

Find out how to make them below!

Ingredients;

Cookies (store bought or make your favorite cookie recipe)
Green Food Coloring
Coconut Flakes
White Chocolate Pretzels
Skittles (or another candy)
Black Licorice
Frosting

Supplies:

Small Mixing Bowl
Knife for Frosting
Plate or platter to place cookies on
Airtight storage container

Instructions:

To make these butterfly cookies get out your ingredients.

If you are using homemade cookies instead of store bought, be sure your cookies are fully cooled.

Mix the food coloring into the frosting, adding a few drops at a time until you get the desired shade.

Generously frost each cookie.

Mix food coloring into the coconut flakes and mix well until the green matches your cookies.

Sprinkle coconut onto each cookie to create grass.

Press two pretzels into the cookies to create butterfly wings.

Add a row of candies to make the body for your butterfly.

Cut the black licorice into antennas and stick them onto the heads of the butterflies.

Store in an airtight container until ready to enjoy.

2026 Summer Reading Programs

If you’re looking to prevent academic slide and keep your children interested in books all summer long, summer programs through libraries, groups and companies can be a great way to keep their minds active.

We have some of our reading program favorites are listed below.

1. Library Summer Reading Programs

Most libraries have summer book programs for kids and many offer great prizes! Some libraries even offer kids a free book just for signing up.

Libraries in our area often have Kindles, LEGOs, American Girl dolls, and more as prizes for kids who meet certain goals. Older kids can earn gift cards and electronics.

Check out your local library for more info and don’t miss these other reasons to take your kids to the library.

2. Applebee’s Bookworm Reading Program

Kids ages 10 and under can earn a free meal at Applebee’s with their reading (valid at Applebee’s Grill + Bar restaurants throughout Upstate New York, Connecticut + Sayre, PA.)

3. Barnes & Noble Reading Program

Kids in grades 1-6 can earn a free book when they read a designated number of books and write about it in their reading journal.

Once completed, return the journal to a Barnes & Noble location for a free book during July and August.

Kids can earn a HEB Buddy plush for completing a log of their completed books read.

I used to love to participate in this when I was a kid, and now it is available for a whole new generation!

This Canada based reading program is bilingual and offers a variety of fun resources for kids.

Kids can earn a prize when they read 4 books and record the books in their reading log. While supplies last.

8. Scholastic Reading Program

The Scholastic Summer program is a free, fun and safe experience that gives kids the opportunity to access e-books, connect with authors, and earn virtual rewards, and it gives a wealth of motivational encouragement.

Kids can create and keep Reading Streaks by reading different types of books.

9. Half Price Books Reading Program

Learn more about this popular reading program and register your child to earn rewards.

10. Tampa Rays Summer Reading Program

This is available for Tampa area kids and allows children to earn free gifts and a $24 contribution to their savings account.

The Washington Nationals have a reading program and some other MLB teams have programs as well. Check your local team’s website for more details.

11. Nothing Bundt Cakes Reading Program

This youth reading program called Books & Bundts is for pre-K through elementary students that celebrates the joy of reading. It’s easy and free with delicious results.

Contact your local bakery to see if they are participating and to learn more. The program varies by location.

12. Panda Express Read With Me Program

Young readers can earn free kids meals from Panda Express with this reading program for kids.

13. Dolly Parton Imagination Library

While not technically just a summer program,, we love this freebie for kids so much, we had to include it on this list. Kids in select states can get free books from ages 0 to 5.

Love your restaurant favorites and wish that you could make some of them at home?

Copycat recipes are a great way to enjoy restaurant entrees and meals on a budget or when you can’t get out to dine in person.

I’ve been sharing how to make some of my favorite restaurant recipes at home and I have some great new recipe copycats for you to enjoy.

Recipe copycats can include fast food and one of my favorites when visiting Wendy’s is their baked potatoes.

I love to grab one when we stop in, but with no restaurant in my small town, I’ve experimented with versions that I can make at home.

You can easily make baked potatoes in the air fryer or your pressure cooker, in addition to using your oven or microwave.

Instant Pot baked potatoes are delicious and easy, and cook in about half the time of a conventional oven.

Wendy’s Baked Potatoes Copycat Recipe

While grabbing a potato at your local Wendy’s is always best, you may not be able to head to your local restaurant or want to be able to make them in bulk at home.

Ingredients:

Potatoes
Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Velveeta Cheese
Bacon Bits
Green Onion
Butter
Salt & Pepper

Here is how to make this easy potato recipe right in your Instant Pot.

To get ready to make your copycat Wendy’s baked potatoes, place the rack into the Instant Pot and pour in 1 cup of water.

Place the potatoes on the rack.

Close and lock the Instant Pot lid.

Set on manual for 12 minutes and then do a slow release.

Remove your baked potatoes from the Instant Pot.

Carefully cut open potatoes and season as desired.

Add on your favorite toppings and enjoy.
