Here is an application I’ve been waiting for. Rechargeitnnow.com provides online recharing of mobile phones from almost all the major service providers in India.

All the regions of Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, Loop, Tata Indicom, Reliance, BSNL and Virgin can be charged with the service. For Aircel the regions except Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Karnataka and Kerala can be charged.

Could SMS Gupshup become Life Lines in India

The Indian Red Cross Society could have made a call for blood donors via Twitter and GupShup seconds after the Mumbai attacks. Including a link in the message could have led donors to locations in Mumbai where donations were needed.

Further, these “Red Cross authenticated” messages could have helped potential blood donors avoid confusion given the multitude of blood donation-related tweets that emerged after the attacks.

Mumbai taught us that, during times of strife, people across India are willing to help and have stories to tell. It’s up to humanitarian organizations such as the Red Cross to empower these citizens with the right tools to reach out and share these experiences.

Here are some tips you could use to use make the most of your mobile phone instrument.

Use that crappy Camera - If you have a cameraphone, use it more than for just taking casual scenery pictures. Eg:- you could take pics of landmarks while you are going to a new place, to escape from getting lost, take course notes while in class or for making memory marks for something to remember.
Go ogle - Use Google Mobile SMS Search, send a text message to 9-77-33-00000 with the search query. In a few moments, Google will reply with what it feels is the best response. This includes Train Schedules, Railway PNR Statuses, Cricket Scores, Translations, and even some GK stuff (GDP of India!).
Notes – Most cell phones have an option to keep notes. Go ahead and USE IT!

Rediff Bol Free SMS

One of my close friends is one of the few users of Rediff Bol in India. She uses it primarily to send SMSes via the IM. I tried it today and I have to admit that it is cool and fast.

The only issue is that after 3 smses, the friend has to reply back to you via SMS once to continue the conversation.
